The lady in the AM did not want to be there. Her winning personality spoke volumes about her proud representation of the US Postal office (sarcasm). Like I stated above, I did not expect anything exceptional sort of like when you go to the DMV. Here's what I found amusing. When I paid using the tap to pay, she quickly reached over to the machine and pressed buttons. I was able to catch the questions as she rapidly pressed the screen to proceed. My package was marked as delivered. I went to my university campus to check if it was delivered to find they did not have my package. After going to all locations on campus, I went to the lovely USPS in Menlo Park. After telling them the package was marked as delivered but we received no package, the worker informed me that often the courier marks packages was delivered even when they aren't to avoid late penalties. After staring, I again asked where my package is. He called the courier who alleged it was in his possession and it would "be delieverer by noon." Now a full 24 hours later- I have no package and returned to the USPS. He told me that the package was delivered cause the courier scanned it in. THE COURIER SCANNED IT THE FIRST TIME AND IT WASNT DELIEVERED... why am I to believe you this time? Long story short- this place is horrible. read more

I came here because I received a notification online from a service that said my package was being held at this post office. While I was in line, one of the people that was at the desk handled herself very well. I believe her name was Julie. A customer came in with a request to remove a hold on her mail and spent a good 2 to 3 minutes sharing with Julie about how she was in a medical emergency. This customer was much older and repeated her story several times. She was also frustrated with service she received from this post office the last time she was here and began to show her frustration to Julie. Rather than fire back in a way that anyone else could have or would have, Julie maintained her professionalism and talked through this customers concerns. She even went as far as to write down that she would remove the hold from this customers mail and the customer even before leaving expressed her appreciation and once again reminded Julie to please remove the hold. I think that this worker needs to be commended for her patience, her professionalism, and for not allowing her feelings or emotions to be expressed in a way that would be unprofessional. I do not know who Julie is but she just made this two star review into a four star review. I'm pretty sure that nobody reads these reviews with regards to the United States Postal Service because this particular service has a lot of work that they need to do. There was a rather long line of people waiting to be served and Julie was the only one there. I imagine this happens quite often around this time of the day. I would encourage this branch of the United States Postal Service to hire good workers and be trained in the same way that Julie was trained. Julie, great work today. read more

An abundance of parking. Everything inside was neat and tidy. Customer service was friendly & helpful. I got what I needed with no issues. Gave only 4/5 stars because they did seem short staffed & it took longer than I hoped for the whole trip (30 minutes). 12:40 pm on a weekday, only one guy at counter. 6-8 people on line, presumably running errands on their break. Who does their staff scheduling? Doesn't sent make any sense. No change for a $20 when buying $10 of stamps. Can't take cash unless exact change. Last time this guy told me that, his cash drawer was full of cash when I gave him exact change. This time I only had a $20, and he wouldn't take it. Guy tells me "its policy" .... somehow I doubt that. Doesn't make any sense. They sell stuff all day long. How do they not have money to me change? What sort of business is this? Guy doesn't seem to understand me, either. Ineffective, inefficient operation at this location. What led me to finally write this review is their mail holding service. This summer I requested to have my mail held for a week and I would pick it up at the post office upon my return. They held the mail, but delivered it on the stated end date. I wasn't there, as my flight was cancelled due to weather, and I didn't arrive home until the next day. Thankfully, a neighbor checked my mailbox (we do this for each other because we KNOW this post office) and picked it up. So I decided to do things differently when I was taking a shorter trip: I requested mail holding and asked them to deliver on the last day. Two days after the requested delivery date they were still holding my mail. Another inefficiency is the lack of a postal kiosk that allows people to mail packages, purchase postage, etc. Years ago they installed one but for some reason took it out. It would be very helpful if they'd have it so that people don't always have to stand in a line for these services. Finally, they deliver mail to my area so late in the day, it's ridiculous. Typically it's after 7pm. What is up with that??? They also don't answer their phone. read more

After reading so many negative reviews I want to say, I've had 3 wonderful mailpersons in 40+ years, all coincidentally all named Tony. They all have cared for my mail and all the neighbors mail. Cordial and friendly while professionally doing their job. We have used all the Menlo Park & Palo Alto postal stations during this time. Yes sometimes I've felt I've waited too long, The cause has never been because of the postal worker's work ethic or lack of knowledge. It has been because of senior folks with a bit of confusion or lonely and overtalk. Maybe someone comes in with 10+ packages, or a lot of business large envelopes to be weighed individually or customers trying to decide which extra service they want. BUT, I've been in all the post offices with the absolute rudest customers, who yell and scream for waiting or it's slow. The attitude that they are more important than anyone. People interrupting a transaction to ask their personal question. Through all these 40+ years I've never seen a post service person, lose their cool or be rude back to anyone. I would like to say: this is the first time to give a one star review. I am always a polite person to everybody. But I think the guy who works in this office does not deserve my nice attitude. It was my turn after waiting in a line. I asked thisbguy which size of envelope I should choose for my mail. He ignored me and just talked to the next one. Like most adults, I've encountered a lot of post offices over the years and, while jokes and complaints about post offices are aplenty, I don't think I would have given any a true one star review. This place is THE WORST. Along with its letter carriers. They open late. The staff are unmotivated, unresponsive and grumpy. The staff park in the parking lot so there is nowhere for customer to park. The letter carriers from this facility are by far the worst we have ever had. The letter carriers literally carry your packages around in their trucks for weeks (no joke, this has happened on multiple occasions). They often just leave large packages propped up on mailboxes in the rain. I'm sorry that we moved into this neighborhood. It isn't the fault of the facility but the people managing this place and staffing it. A true shame. read more

Want to know what happens when government employees can't be fired for poor performance? Order something online delivered through the Menlo Park USPS and find out. As previous posters have said the postal worker has discovered that he doesn't even need to come to your door to deliver a package, when he can just stick a note in the mailbox (I'm in a house with the mailbox 15 feet from my front door). I suspect that the postal worker doesn't even bother to carry boxes to his vehicle, but leaves them for the next guy to deliver and sticks a "Delivery Attempted" note in the mailbox to CYA. This is especially the case with Saturday deliveries. The postal worker in Saturday refuses to ever deliver anything other than letters. No accountability, no fear of being fired leads to utterly poor service. This is the epitome of what's wrong with government service, made even worse by government labor unions. read more

Don't go to this USPS station. If you want a USPS in Menlo park, go to Oak Grove. They have knowledgable postal clerks that are genuinely nice and helpful. You're better off going to USPS, Fedex, DHL, or mom and pop mailing store than going to the USPS. The USPS that I've encountered in Menlo Park, CA - the Bohannon Station and Redwood City, CA - the Downtown location (Jefferson Ave) have terrible services and it's the postal staff/clerk. The staff at both places did not do their job. Push it off to have you wait or do it on your own or have you go to another branch. Part of their job is customer service so I'll give them a break. But not to provide the shipping services or take the time to do that because a customer has a lot of packages - come on! Do your job or someone else who wants the job can take it. Take your business elsewhere or your things may not get delivered. read more

I'm pissed off at the post off-fice... For one, why the heck can't they open earlier!? Come on, people... I've got things to deliver!? And closing on Veteran's Day to honor a bunch of people that fought for our country!? Wtf? What about me?! What about the birthday people that may be getting their gifts late?! It's the post office's fault-- can't be mine. Most of the time when I get here, they're closed. I'm either too late or too early and it's all their fault! I always have to wait in line-- again their fault-- doesn't anybody realize that a princess like me should never have to wait anywhere?! I needed to make a copy, their machine was broken-- and one guy behind the counter, pressed with waiting mailers, did not want to step away to do a good deed. I am firing them. I need copies, they should take on that responsibility, not me (La Reina Cassandra!). The nerve of those people just trying to do their job... Ha! Okay, on a serious note, I am grateful that I get mail, and that its delivered properly (most of the time). I am also happy that a national company makes that all happen. I know most of those people are doing the best they can, I mean they even drive like Europeans (wheel on the right)-- for us! If I could make a wish for the USPS-- it would be that it was managed better, or even privatized. If they got a new CEO-- a really talented, level five (goes above and beyond) things would be incredibly pleasant to do, handle, pick up, drop off and get delivered. I stopped by in the early AM (8:45 AM to be exact), in hopes of avoiding the lines in mailing out a package for the bf, but to my amazement, the parking lot was already full! I headed inside and there was a line not to mail out packages, but a line for those who had gone on vacay and were back to pick up their mail. *relief* I was in and out in less than 10 minutes! This place is THE WORST. I can't even count the number of times where I've been expecting an overnight package, it arrives at this location on-time (2-4am, plenty of time for on-time delivery), and then just SITS THERE for DAYS. They aren't even trying. Now they do a special trick where they don't even attempt delivery of your Amazon packages, and just mark them "Delivered - Ready for Pickup." If you're lucky, they might deliver the following day, but remember, they didn't even ATTEMPT delivery the day it was supposed to arrive, and you can't track the package anymore because it's been 'delivered.' I have never experienced such bad customer service!!! One of their websites stated that they opened at 9:00 AM but they did not. Let alone that they did not open on time at 9:30 either. As for passport services it took them almost half hour to find the book because they do not take walk ins. FYI that redwood city does take walk ins. Normally i find the service rather poor, and my most recent interaction started as such, but a rare star performer came through when I came in to try to get a package that'd not been delivered because it required a signature. The first person I talked to was of little help to me. He could only recite the party line, directing me to call the 800 number (which no one seems to answer). Asking further, he said just come back tomorrow after 9:30a, but could give me little assurance that my package wouldn't be back out the truck for delivery again. I was leaving in frustration, but then found someone else who had better language skills and listened to what I wanted. He directed me to talk with Sophi at the counter, suggesting she could help. Sophi listened to me, and understood that all I wanted was my package. After giving her my address, she confirmed my carrier was long back from his daily route, and minutes later she brought my much desired package to the counter. A quick signature and I was on my way and life was wonderful. This review is to commend Sophi for helping and not just sending me away as the other worker did, but rather being helpful and creating a happy customer. Props to Sophi! read more

For my business, I do hundreds of priority mail mailings and Bill and Sophia and others there are always willing to help me. Bill even called me when there was a problem with one of my mass mailings so I could come in and get it corrected asap. Service like this is priceless. This seems to be the post office where all of the other post offices dump their bad cases, hence how I was there. Lost international package is never fun. It seemed as if everyone in line had a major issue and the one person working was rather slow. There were many people working behind the scenes but only one upfront despite the line. I waited to speak with a supervisor who upset me with news that I didn't like but he called me 20 minutes later to say that my package had magically been found. YAY! I rushed back and was in a much better mood. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the staff, they were perfectly kind, but they often don't have the answers that our ever on the go, I want it now now now, community wants. If a package is lost you might just have to wait. I like some other post offices better but this seems to be a perfectly fine alternative in a pinch. read more

This post office has a number of problems: 1. The local mail carrier is a jerk. He is always rude when we do see him, which is rare. Usually he doesn't even get out of his truck when a package needs a signature. He fills out a notice and drops it in the mailbox as he drives by. He's hit our trash cans multiple times. 2. This post office is severely understaffed. You often have to stand in line for more than an hour and there are lines out the door on most days. 3. When you call about a package the line is busy 8 out of 10 times. 4. When someone does pick up, they're usually rude. Often they will tell you that they can't solve your problem and hang up on you. Here's a specific example: On the 11th of February 2015, our mail carrier drove up and dropped a pink slip in our mailbox instead of coming to our door to request a signature. I called to complain about this the same day at 1-800-ASK-USPS. I was told that: a) My package would be re-delivered. b) My complaint would be looked into. 9 days later the package is still in "ready for pickup" status and has not been re-delivered. I called the call center to ask why the package had not been delivered. The call center rep told me that an email had been sent to the local Menlo Park post office requesting to have the package re-delivered and that I should call the Menlo Park post office to find out why it was not. When I called the Menlo Park post office, the supervisor there, when asked why he hadn't received the email and requested re-delivery of the package, said HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO USE EMAIL. When I said that was ridiculous and asked to speak to a manager, he refused to transfer my call and hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a desk clerk, and when I asked to speak with a manager, she said I had already spoken to a supervisor. I told her I didn't want to speak to a supervisor I needed a manager. She said the manager was with a customer. I said I was not surprised. I was put on hold and waited 10 minutes. When I spoke with the manager, I told him all of the above and he sounded really surprised. He said he would talk to the carrier and and the supervisor and that he would call me back. He also said he would request re-delivery for the package and that he would call me back tomorrow. read more

The reviews regarding the "hold mail" service are spot on. Rarely is the held mail delivered on time. A week ago I found a customer care phone number in Google search. Yes, that's right. A customer care service for the USPS. The phone number is 800-275-8777. I used it after two days of delay on delivery of my held mail. No only was the person on the phone professional, but she contacted the Bohannon Drive USPS while I was on the phone and let me know that my mail was on the truck for delivery that day--3 days late. About an hour after that phone call I received a phone call apology from the Bohannon Drive USPS! Yes, an apology! So use this service. Who knows, it may be a way of grading each distribution point. Several years ago, those in my neighborhood were instrumental in replacing the postmaster at this very place. So fight on! read more

located across the street from marsh manor, where i practise yoga several times a week, it is super convenient for me to drop by here before or after my session to mail a letter or package. there are post offices closer to where i live, but none within walking distance, so this location works just fine....either walk a couple minutes from marsh manor or drive over and pause at the mailbox which is situated so that you can drive up, drop it off, and leave, without having to park and get out of your car. although, if i did need to park, it would be pretty easy since there is ample parking in the post office parking lot here. this location is also very close to marsh & 101. read more

If you're having problems with your mail delivery, as I am, call Postal Consumer Affairs at 415 550 5005 and complain. Enough complaints and the Postal Inspectors will hopefully crack down on these incompetent mail men. In the mean time, in order to avoid any more losses of valuable packages, I'm having everything delivered to my office in another city. Apparently "Signature Confirmation" means that the mailman can just sign for things himself and leave them at a random location. Garbage service. The only thing I can reliably count on being delivered are store ads & junk mail offers (probably because it makes the USPS money and the postal workers can IMMEDIATELY be fired for not delivering them - I have been told this numerous times when asking different carriers why they can't just leave the junk ads in an "optional" box below our apartment mailboxes). Other than store ads & junk mail the postal service in Menlo Park is 100% worthless and unreliable. I have personally tracked 5 separate occasions in the last 6 months where our postal worker did not take the "OUTGOING" mail from our collective mailbox unit. There are tenants here who rely on that "outgoing mail" box to send out bills on time!!! I've called twice now and personally complained about it. Is the mail worker still employed? You bet! How is it they can be immediately terminated if caught not delivering junk mail & store ads, yet they can be completely incompetent in something as simple as picking up "outgoing" mail and allowed to still collect a bi-weekly paycheck?!!? When you can't READ the apartment number on the envelope & drop it into the correct numbered mailbox on a REGULAR basis; when you can't follow simple instructions to forward mail for a tenant that has mail forwarding enabled (verified & resubmitted 2 additional times on top of the original forward request); when you can't do your JOB and take OUTGOING MAIL with you... you need to be FIRED and working somewhere else where brain capacity needed is almost nil. The supervisors and supervisors' supervisors need to be immediately terminated as well for failing to be competent enough to follow up on serious issues like this. F#K the post office system here - I will never have another reliable item sent to me (or send out FROM me) through the post office anywhere because of this lack of accountability. The US Postal Service is a broken organization, with so many rude, crabby and downright incompetent employees, who just don't seem to CARE at all. This is one business that should be 100% privatized. I'm tired of the junk mail, the packages left on the fence instead of carried to the porch, the sensitive mail ending up in a neighbor's box, etc... I was nervous to go here after seeing all the bad reviews, but I was very pleasantly surprised by my time at Bohannon postal service. I came around 4:15 on a Tuesday, so I expected it to be packed. However, I found a parking spot easily, and only waited 5 minutes in line. I visited because my mail was continuing to be forwarded after my requested end date, so for the hassle of having to come to the post office for that instead of it being automatic I am docking one star. However, my experience at the post office itself was 5-star quality. The woman who helped me was very patient, understanding and thorough in understanding my problem. She went above and beyond to help me. Overall, one of the better post office visits I've had. It was refreshing to have a clerk with such a positive, friendly attitude. So often at post offices it's all doom and gloom. I am happy to call this my local post office. read more

My husband and I opened a PO Box to receive boxes. When we opened it I specifically asked how long they keep the packages. The lady told me that they don't have a set time so not to worry about it. When we tried to pick up one of our packages they told us it was sent back to the sender (amazon). I was so frustrated by this because I had specifically asked this question when I was there. Not only that, Amazon said they never got it back (was it stolen?). Richard who helped us was very unprofessional and rude. He really seemed like he didn't care at all. He said we received two notices in our mailbox...How are we supposed to know about the notices when we weren't checking our mailbox. Other workers have been more friendly and helpful. I think the name of the guy that was nice and helpful was Bob, he was nicer and they have called us since to remind us to pick up a package (which is what they should've done for the first one).
