The gal on the phone was polite and refered me to consumer affairs, but when pressed, told me that the packages are held until there is a box filled with enough mail to ship to Hawaii by boat. There should be a meme for the sheer feeling of horror we experience upon checking our tracking info and realizing it's been routed to this facility. Automatically, you prepare for two things: waiting for months to get your package (when it was supposed to take 2 days), or the possibility of not getting it at all. My boyfriend has to deal with this notorious "black hole" all the time, and warned me about it before I had the unfortunate experiences myself. For me this is the third time having something routed to this facility, and it's again just stuck there....of course, only at this facility. And yes, I do live in Hawaii. Omg! I came here on my lunch break thinking i would be in and out bc it was one person in line. Wrooooooong! Arrgh...I am perplexed to see all these bad reviews :-(. I called stamps.com from whom I bought the shipping label for my 2 pkgs to Hawaii, they gave me a # which was disconnected. I shipped 3 pkgs exactly a month ago, one arrived one week ago and apparently the other 2 are stuck. I am in Los Angeles. It seems case after case after case packages get lost in the facility.. I have two packages lost currently and just want to contribute to their over all bad ratting.. this place should be shut down any one in charge of the facility should be embarrassed and disappointed why our government is allowing such actions to be taking place I do not know. The staff are fine... Just hate that there is always a damn wait!!! Ive been here for 30 mins already and prob gonna wait another 15 mins... Sent a Christmas package to my grandchildren in Windsor CA. Tracking info said it was at the Richmond PO on 12/17 with an expected delivery of 12/18. My daughter called on 12/21 and said the package hadn't arrived. Checked the tracking info on 12/21....it is still at the Richmond PO and the status still says expected delivery is 12/18!!....4 days ago and it still hasn't left Richmond. I ordered a package that had to come through here and it sat for 5 days before being sent to the next facility. It was supposed to be here on a Monday and now it won't be until Saturday. I'm a seller on eBay, and ship about 50 packages a week via USPS. Although a lot of packages get delayed, USPS has never lost a package until now. I recently shipped 2 packages from Seattle to two different addresses in CA. Both packages ended up at the Richmond sorting facility, and both packages somehow fell off the radar and vanished, no where to be found. After a quick Google search of this sorting facility, I realized that this seems to happen to a lot of other people whose packages end up in Richmond. This place is a black hole for packages. How has this facility not been shut down??? How do you lose so many packages? It's either complete incompetence or theft. Either way, USPS needs to shut this place down. So I read a lot of horror stories of the Richmond facility. I live in Hawaii and thought I would be waiting over a month to receive my package after reading the Hawaii reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. It arrived at the Richmond facility on 4/2 with an estimated delivery date of 4/14. It actually arrived on 4/11 ahead of time. I would give them a 5 star but I do agree with the other reviews that they should be able to track when the item was sent out. read more

They lost my package I ordered from amazon and didn't contact me or the seller for about 10 days. When the seller tried contacting them the woman was very rude and just said that they only know as much as the website does. I don't know if this is just a problem at this post office or if its the whole postal service in general. Either way i'd rather have my packages delivered by someone else like ups or fedex. My package was shipped to Richmond post office and has been stuck there since September 4th. I have called and called. Not only do they not answer but they don't even have an answering machine. Very irritating. A post office in the US with no answering machine. This was an order for a customer and now I have to redo it because according to these reviews on here my package is gone. I called the 1-800 number twice and they said we don't need to make an appointment to get our passports done at this Richmond office and the hours are 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. No other phone number to call so that we could verify and not waste our time. So we drove down and go in and stand in line (forever) until we finally see a door to the right and a sign is posted on the door saying we are closed. Today was not a holiday. By the way the hours for passports is NOT 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. For passports it is OPEN from 8:30 to 10:30, closed for lunch, and open 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. We went through so much crap to get there and nobody gives a damn whether it is an inconvenience either. We choose this office because you didn't need an appointment. I called our local Pinole Post Office and made an appointment - they also do passports but by appointment only. read more

I have had a package stuck in the Richmond Facility and can't get an update on where it is and when I will receive it. It arrived there on the 16th of September and it is now the 30th with no update. I don't know if I will get the package on time before I travel. It was supposed to be delivered by the 20th. I am very disappointed. read more

It's hard to believe a business that performs this poorly is still in existence. I have a package that arrived at this facility more than a week ago and hasn't moved since. Tracking hasn't been updated and it has seemingly fallen into the 'black hole' everyone else is talking about. It's insulting to trust a company with your possessions and have them totally disregard them like garbage. A couple of days late is understandable, but this is ridiculous. A friend of mine who owns a UPS Store deals with USPS a lot and says they are falling apart at the seams. In 2014 they started providing exclusive service to Amazon.com, the world's biggest online retailer, and have given them preferential treatment over their other customers. I talked to my friend about the problem I'm having with USPS and he told me a story about how just the other day he stopped in on a Sunday, when his UPS Store is closed, to pick up some paperwork. He got a knock on the door from a USPS delivery driver with a truck full of Amazon packages expecting him to accept them. He politely informed the driver that they're closed on Sundays and he wouldn't be accepting any packages that day. This place is terrible and should be overhauled and restaffed. It's totally unacceptable to tell someone a package is going to make it from point A to point B in a specified period of time and then take weeks longer. These are people's personal possessions and should be treated with respect, not left in some sorting facility for weeks at a time with absolutely explanation as to why. If you can't fulfill your commitment to providing a service, DON'T OFFER THE SERVICE! PERIOD! Their horrendous service has caused me a lot of stress and simply isn't worth it. I have had so many issues with the post office-I live in Suffolk Va but apparently the mail must go thru Richmond.None of my letters or packages have gone thru smoothly.It is taking 10-14 days to get anything thru-it is disgraceful! I mailed a package to my son in Richmond-he never received it and the post office would not give us the minimum 50.00 loss on a 180.00 calculator because they said it was delivered! If i only i can give ZERO stars I would!! I ordered tickets online and had only picked the 10 day standard delivery since I thought i would have enough time to get it in time for my vacation on Sept 27. The vendor had mailed my tickets on Sept 3 and had gotten to Richmond, CA USPS on Sept 7. Up to this very day my package is still at the post office.. have not left there since Sept 7. Called there to find out when will I get it and the RUDE lady said.."You just have to wait" since you picked the priority mail. She said that PRIORITY mail is not guaranteed to be delivered in 10 days despite what they say in the post ofice. She said that it could mean 10 days, 2 weeks or whenever". Its just so aggravating!!!! I kinda expected it to be delayed in delivery but not 22 days or more!!! Luckily I got hold of the vendor and they gave me copies of my ticket that I can use and get a duplicate when I get to the venue. read more
