I recently had an appointment here to obtain a new passport and the process was quick! That's because I came prepared with the required paperwork/documentation to apply for an adult passport as well as report my old one lost/stolen from over 15 years ago. If you're not prepared or have the proper documentation with you, your appointment may be rescheduled. You can also have your photo taken here which is an additional $15 that I didn't mind paying just for the convenience of it all to have it taken care of in one place. It's really up to you and your preference. Overall, I was in-and-out in a matter of 15 minutes. Note that the mail/pickup area office is small and there is no real sitting area to wait except for one chair. The entrance to the parking is narrow so be careful when entering because only one car can pass through at a time on Fern Ave to get to the parking for the mail/pick up/passport office. read more

Went here for a first-time passport application and photo last Friday. Make an appointment online at UPS because they only do walk ins as soon as they open on Fridays; and those are 1st come 1st serve! Unfortunately, I'd forgotten my money order at home. Luckily, Mirian was so incredibly helpful and energetic and let me pay for the passport fee with my debit card. In total it was about $182.35; $130 for regular passport book and regular service, $15 for photos, $2.35 money order fee, and $35 for execution fee. Had called about a missing package, very important stuff in there. What really got under my skin was how it was delivered to the "front desk/reception/mailroom" I checked all 3 & still nothing ! But better yet, it was signed for...by my name. So someone or some mailman had the audacity to sign for me using my initials, and it came from a mailman on my route near otay mesa. Be careful what you order here, the amount of time it's taking them to "investigate" is getting me worried about their honesty. I worked at the post office before, all mailman aren't so nice as they seem & it's very easy for managers to know exactly who mailed a route any day of the week, it's literally in the system & on paper. read more

I'm not surprised this post office has 3 stars. USPS received my Amazon package on 9/22. On my Amazon account , my address is shown differently because I live in a ADU. But to USPS, address is shown as the residence address ( 2 completely different #s) . As some know, Amazon allows you to notate specific instructions as to where to deliver your package, In the special scenario that your home isn't easily visible. So since USPS received my Amazon package, they stated that my package was undeliverable because my address did not exist. Again, On Amazon there are special notes that state where the package should be delivered. If USPS is going to deliver amazon packages , then follow the instructions. Otherwise, stick to your own job. I am getting married tomorrow and i needed those packages to come in. But, my packages were undeliverable & now they are now being returned to sender. OH! And here's the kicker... someone from this USPS location called me on 9/22 @ 4:45pm ( way past closing time) to let me know that when there is an ADU and a residential home on 1 lot. 2 mailboxes need to be present for Both addresses ( okay, no big deal I can do that). & this person, whoever she was. Said "we can stop this return to sender, and have your packages delivered tomorrow". She assured me. She still had the packages in house & they would be delivered with the courier tomorrow (9/23). BUT THEY WERENT. I spoke with the mailman delivering in my neighborhood & he said "sorry, I don't have anything. And our offices are now closed". Pffffft ... This location needs new staff or this location shouldn't take on Amazon packages read more

Worst customer service ever. Had a passport appointment at 9:30. Said to show up ten minutes before to fill out forms. They have a bell to ring only once. Rang it, no one came out. It's now 8 minutes after my appointment. A mail carrier comes in rings the bell, fhey finally come out. It's now 9:41. She asks if i have my forms. No because no one has come out to give me the forms I need. Doesn't take me long to fill out the forms, lady disappears to the back. You can hear them all back there just chit chatting. read more

This is a huge post office but with a small service area. I came here to send a simple first class letter. No, they cannot help me here because, according to the girl, "We do not do retail here." I wanted to ask, "Then what do you guys do here?" but she was so nice I did not want to ruin her day. She did mention to go to the post office in San Ysidro which, I may add, is notorious for its long lines and not so great service. In disappointment, I left and wondered, if this is such a huge location, surely they could do the simplest of all USPS tasks: help me send a letter! The entrance to this place is sketchy. You have to drive down a narrow worn down road with potholes and into a lot that would fit about five cars. I came here because it was closest to me. read more

Planning a trip out of the country in a few months and we need new passports, but for some weird reason everywhere we checked was booked solid for months. Finally booked an appointment at this Post Office in Otay Mesa. It was a little tricky finding the entrance because the street is actually a very small unpaved alley which has overgrown weeds and a fence obscuring the building so we ventured through anyway. It looked like we were parked behind the building and a small walkway guided us to the front door. After walking in to a small 12 X 10 room with one guy behind a counter. We checked in and were politely told it would be a few minutes. The place looked like it needed a serious upgrade but we waited. Sure enough the office door opened and we were greeted warmly by Mirram our Passport Advisor. We sat in what appeared to be a make shift office at the end of a busy warehouse. The desk was old and sadly none of the furniture matched. Considering this is a Federal Government building. It is so evident that this place is not getting the support they need to provide the public with a decent work place. I cannot stress enough that in spite of all of these short comings. The two employees who helped us were very polite, courteous and proffesional. Mirram was amazing she was filling in for someone else but she did a terrific job. Not sure about all thise negative reviews but our experience was great. read more

This post office needs to update their info online stating that it's for passports only. I drove there to ship a package and they don't provide that service here. It's just for picking up and for passports interviews. Why is it so hard to add that information online? It will eliminate a lot of negative reviews and will save us time and aggravation for those of us looking to ship out. Absurd. I dont come to this location that much but i got there arouns 2:43-2:45 i waited patiently i pushed the service button 2 times and nobody came to see what i needed i had over 30 packages i wanted to drop off (never dropped off packages at this location before) so i waited! It was 3:01 to be exact and 2 guys come running out and told me if i needed something because they are closed now ... i dont think that is the way to greet a customer especially when this people were outside and clearly can see when cars arrive at the location im not a Karen like people say but now in days businesses are lacking curtesy read more

The Fern Ave location is the best USPS location. Packages here go directly onto trucks and to flights, for fast delivery. Other locations have more hops to get outbound. The staff are friendly and kind, and know how to offer customer service. We drive 15 minutes out of our way to avoid the Dennery Road location. We never have packages lost when sending from Fern Rd. Dennery Rd steals and loses packages. This Fern Rd location is your best option for sending out packages and getting customer service! Note that a prior complaint about hours is a bit unfair, because this is an Annex location. One needs to find the right store with the right services and hours for their needs. For us, this location is a revelation compared to our closer store. read more

Crappiest post office i have ever dealt with! Unfortunately this is who i have to deal with since they deliver for my area. RUDE staff! They're phones never work. The mail man in my area is always delivering mail to the wrong residence so my neighbors and I are always trading our mail back and forth. Reporting this does nothing. I have been calling for the past 15 min to report that the mail man left all our mailboxes open on the back but since they close in 15 min of course the phones are unavailable and just sound busy Wow what a surprise....
