I didn't know I had so much to say about a post office, but I feel compelled to share our wonderful experience at this USPS! We drove here from San Francisco for our passport appointments, because it was one of the few places in the Bay Area with available slots. Happy to say that parking was easy. For the passport photoshoot, my toddler was scared and crying and trying to climb off the chair. But the photographer lady was so patient and friendly with her, and kept snapping pictures until we got a good one. I might be biased, but the final pictures of my kids are too cute! Next was the passport application process, and I'm like a frazzled juggler with papers and documents and two restless kids. But the clerk was cool, calm, and efficient. He got all the applications together, and also shared some tips and tricks about how to track the passport application status, and what to do if I'm still passport-less 14 days before my trip. He also said he genuinely loved his job, and that it brought him lots of joy meeting people and helping them with their passport applications. Love to hear it! Kudos to the friendly staff at USPS for making this mundane task a delight. If we ever need to do this again, you'll be first on the list. read more

We live nowhere in the area. So how did we end up at a post office in Sausalito? Well, it was the only location in the greater Bay Area that had any openings for passport applications. It's so hard to get an appointment, I couldn't believe it. So, we had to take a day off and make an entire day out of it. The passport room was locked off, and we ended up just doing the paperwork at the front desk. The clerk was a bit flustered and grumpy, but not as much as his other coworker. Never ever have I experienced a USPS that was satisfied by their job. On this day, their camera was broken, so we had to go to a nearby UPS store to get our pics taken. We headed back and the process was relatively painless. Paid our dues and were out of the office within 15 minutes for four applications. read more

Slow, rotten service, long lines. Went in today (Friday 07/09/21). NO PERSON AT THE COUTER. At least 7-People in line. After waiting for 15-Minutes...15 Fracking Minutes, the line had not moved. No person at the counter except the ONE person working on Passports. Slow, Agonizingly FREAKING SLOW. I'm not really sure why everyone has such an issue with this post office. I went in there this last Tuesday around noon to mail a package and there was no line at all! I have also been in here around the holidays and yes I had to wait in a long line but what else can you expect around that time of year? The staff are kind and the location is both convenient and has a large parking lot. It is a post office located in a city of only 7000 people so don't expect it to be overstaffed. I'm sure they only have on average two people working the counter at a time. Oh but yes the lack of the self automated machine is very annoying and I'm not sure why they don't have one. read more

Part of my housesitting Responsibilities involve picking up mail, dropping off mail, and shipping any number of items. This is the best little post office ever. The same( wonderful, smart, efficient,) three clerks have been there for a long time and seem to know everybody, I think... they're friendly accommodating and very patient. UPS has an agreement with USPS that any thing mailed through UPS for Sausalito with be delivered to the Sausalito USPS for home delivery. Every day for over a week I get a notice that my package is being delivered the next day. But below that line it says "Acceptance pending ". I go to the post office to see if I can pick up my package. The person I talked to (probably the longest employee there, and if you're familiar with him you'll know who I'm talking about. ) goes in the back for a few minutes and say "There's nothing back there." I call UPS and they tell me they have the same information as me. In other words no one is responsible for my lost package. Fortunately the company that I ordered from is sending me another package through a different service. read more

I like the staff here and I generally have good experiences. But it's ridiculous you cannot even buy stamps in the lobby "after hours." It's 2022! Put a machine in the lobby like many other POs where you can at least buy postage and drop something to be mailed. It would also alleviate the regular counter line. read more

Not sure what's going on with the delivery process at Harbor but I've gotten someone else's mail twice in the last month. One pkg was from Kaiser and contained someone's meds. It's also happened other times in the last few yrs but that was junk mail. Mis-delivery of US mail (esp to a diff neighborhood or street) should never happen. read more

I received a birthday card last week..it was sent by a friend the week before my birthday...in June I've mailed bills from this place and they never arrive and I end up getting penalized for extra charges for late payments... They don't answer the phone. I've been trying to call them - at (415) 332-0227 - and the calls just don't go through; I get a busy signal. Tried a dozed times, with multiple phones. USPS says a package was delivered, but I was home at the time that it says it was delivered, and I didn't get a package and, as usual, neither the doorbell nor knocker was sounded. read more

The initial impression when entering the Sausalito Post Office is that it is a perfect example of the decline of United States infrastructure. There are water stains on the ceiling and the paint is peeling. The clock on the wall has long since died. The walls are covered with an assortment of signs made on a laser printer, barely held up by yellowing scotch tape, many partially torn. The counters are cluttered with assorted items, some postal-related and many fund-raising devices. The display cases, such as they are, are filled with never-changing groups of tchotchke's. One is a 'fairy village' of plastic cottages and construction-paper roads. The neglected displays are simply visual clutter, and offer no solace to your troubled mind, which by now is screaming, begging you to leave this horrible place. There are five clerk stations in the Sausalito P.O., and at any given time one or two are occupied by dead-eyed clerks. Huge signs between stations warn you to keep your children off the counters. A line of customers could be out the door (and often is), and only one clerk remains on duty. A call to the local Post Master yields a muttered explanation about union rules and lunch breaks. Apparently, even the Post Master herself cannot run a register. It's against union rules. When you finally arrive at a clerk, they move in slow motion. A request for a package can take 5 or 10 minutes. Since there is often only one clerk on duty, this leaves the counter abandoned. I've been told that these are jobs-for-life. The same three comatose workers have been staffing the counter for years. I would think that this is a USPS phenomena, but I've been to many other Post Offices, and the clerks are bright, efficient, and friendly. The Sausalito P.O. is unique in its soul-deadening deterioration and clerks which seem more like the shambling dead than living human beings. read more

Unfortunately this place needs a revamp in customer service, more staff support, and a outgoing packages box. waiting in line for more than 5 min just to drop off a package is ridiculous and having only one clerk with a line of more than 10 people is absurd. this is the only post office box in Sausalito, slow or not they should always be ready for a rush. Worse post office ever! Who runs this place? Numerous complaints from residents go nowhere. Doesn't seem to be any accountability or appropriate training of employees. Registered letters are not received by residents. Our package was delivered to the wrong address. They leave packages in the wrong place. I had a large check that was sent Registered but they couldn't find it. I showed them online that they had received it. Numerous visits to inquire and they finally found it in the wrong pile. I previously contacted Representative Jared Huffmans office but I never received a follow up that they had done anything to affect change. read more

I have two small gripes: 1) Pathetic supplies - I just need a few USPS boxes and they were out of nearly everything. 2) Lack of a self-service machine. I'm not saying the people in Sausalito are responsible but this was where I mailed them and this is not surprising from an organization plagued with uninspired attributes. I will tell you that the Sausalito post office is the most poorly run branch that I've ever witnessed. They are lazy and incompetent. I finally had to call the central office with the help of the Santa Rosa (competent and professional) post office to intervene. What happened was first they delayed my mail forwarding because the carrier was on vacation (?!?!?!?) then they kept telling me it takes a month (!?!?)- turns out that they put 2008 on the forwarding order so it had expired and all of our mail was return to sender (they never admitted doing this and got angry that I reported them). This branch is the poster child for doing your business online. read more

This is the slowest processing facility in all of my years using USPS. After nearly half a dozen packages taking several days from arrival to this location, the staff takes way too long to make deliveries available for pickup! I'm switching to a UPS ship center in 2020 for my businesses postal box needs. The supervisors of this location and district either need to hire more staff or resign from their posts altogether. It's no wonder The Administration wants to shut the USPS down and empower private sectors to pick up the slack. read more

Easily the worst Post Office one could imagine. My mailman FAILED TO DELIVER MY MAIL for over 1 year because he could not acknowledge that my apt building has two different street adresses and one shared multi-mailbox. The post office personelle could not explain why he wouldn't deliver my mail and suggested that I pay them $80/year and open a PO Box to which I of course refused. My neighbors advised me to CHANGE MY ADDRESS to the street he seems to understand and now he delivers my mail. WTH!?! I also lost a considerable amount of important mail during this time. MORE recently I specifically requested packages to be left in the hallway without signature. This obtuse mailman also fails to understand what this means, and of course they close at 5pm so no packages for me. I wish I could forget about Sausalito's USPS. read more

Worst customer service. The people who work at this location - at least at the front counters are rude and dismissive. I have come to this location on more than one occasion,sometimes there is a line sometimes no line at all. Doesn't matter, the counter staff are consistently rude to the customer. They are curt, inflexible, and obnoxious. I observed one woman explaining that she wanted to have her Mail on hold while she was away for the holidays. The post office worker was argumentative, aggressive and down right rude. Will never come back here. I can get my stamps and other post office services elsewhere read more

This is the best post office in the Bay Area. Came here for our passport appointment. We were in and out in 20 minute for three nee passport applications. They honor your appointment timings. Very friendly and helpful people. It was a little out of our way but will go back again if needed. Highly recommended if you are applying your passports. I recently mailed an envelope of flyers to someone that has a POB in Sausalito. The envelope was returned to me marked, "Priority Postage," "Postage Due $2.99.) The envelope weighed 5.8oz, and was sent First Class, which is correct according to the post office that I took it to here to see. It all boils down to the incompetent employees at the Sausalito post office, that don't know what they're doing. This is the second time I have updated my review. The first update (April '17) was a much-needed venting of my frustration regarding poor service at our out-going mail kiosk. Since that time, I have to say - things have gotten better, and for that I am very appreciative. Thank you, Sausalito USPS! Also, I have to say - some of the folks behind the counter have been very kind, quite engaging and extremely helpful. I end up at this Post Office maybe once a week, and each time I generally do feel well taken care of. So there. I've upped my review by two stars. Amazingly courteous... Without getting into unnecessary specifics, what I needed done was quite beyond the normal duties of the postal service. Not only did they do it without so much as a hesitation, they were the ones who offered to do it for me. As for the handful of bad reviews I read here... I can only guess what happened but the planet's full of folks who see things from their own perspective and lack the desire or ability to see it from anyone else's. If something doesn't go their way, then they are prompt to blame whoever doesn't do what they ask. If the post office had the opportunity to respond, I am CERTAIN a thoughtful facility like this would have an excellent rationale. I can't believe that I could walk into a post office in a nice town like this and receive such discourteous treatment. I was dressed down in front of a whole line of customers by the loudest, rudest, belligerent clerk imaginable. It was concerning mail clearly addressed to me, but a computer glitch that prints "unit" instead of #. This imbecile lets out a tirade in a demeaning tone, in marginally understandable English at the top of his voice, telling me I should move to another town. Never have I been treated so poorly, and this wasn't the first time. If there was any way to give this place less than one star, based on this individual, I'd do it. I love to send big weird envelopes and packages to my pals, so I use the post office a lot. The Sausalito office is right across the street from me, but when I moved here years ago their service was so bad that I'd make a special trip to an office in another town to avoid the hassle. At some point, things changed. The line moved more quickly, attitudes were adjusted, and a few of the more irksome workers went away. Now I'm happy to use this office, and am greeted with a smile by the people who work there. As my four stars* attest, yay! My car was hit by one of their postal trucks while parked. Luckily there were witnesses that notified me that it happened, or I don't know if they would have taken responsibility. This was FOUR months ago! I have called them numerous times. I've sent them an estimate for the damage and I have heard absolutely nothing from them. They rarely pick up the line and when they do they promise to have someone call back that never does. I escalated the issue to my insurance company and they can't get anywhere either. I waited to write this review because I wanted to give them a chance to do right. I can't believe this is how they handle accidents that are clearly their fault. read more

Came in for a passport renewal appointment, only to be told that I had to reschedule because their camera equipment was down. When I mentioned that being given no heads up to this fact beforehand was "a little annoying," the woman was very defensive and mentioned that I could just walk over to Kinkos and have my photo taken there, but that I "needed to hurry because I have more appointments after you." I left to go to the next room and fill out a portion of my form, before heading over to Kinkos, only to hear the two front desk women talk smack about me from the other room. Professionalism at its finest! I have worked in customer service plenty of times and have always had the decency to make sure the customer has left the building before beginning a tirade!
