This is long overdue . I know post office has complaints sometimes but LiSa here in the chesnut station helps make the experience more positive. She is an asset to this office who goes out of her way to make sure the best customer service is given to each and everyone in line even though it can get overwhelming but she executes it perfectly. Look for her if you want an amazing customer service and quick help. She is an asset to this station . This is a review of the physical post office alone; I've never been here during business hours, so I don't know how slow it is. It's conveniently located in a strip mall with a Safeway in it, so there's plenty of parking. There's an outdoor drop box like at most post offices, but what sets this post office apart is that there's also an interior mail slot in the unlocked lobby, so you can post your outgoing mail directly through an interior wall. This means both that it can't be stolen and that it will be collected first thing when the post office opens. (They don't always check the exterior drop boxes first thing, especially if they have collection times listed.) The only thing missing from the lobby is an APC. I don't know whether the business-hours-only area has one (I doubt it), but it seems like a waste to have a lobby open late night without the ability to buy postage when the counter is closed. read more

l I have my own prepaid label, but wasn't able to print it out due to my printer running out of ink so I went to this location to get a package shipped unfortunately they do not have a kiosk or are not able to print out a label for you so I requested them to make a new label and they told me to write it on the package and it was just terrible customer service because I was showing them the label over the phone yet they wanted me to write it on a piece of paper just so they can re-create the label again. I loathe leaving negative reviews but I need to express my grievances with this place. This by far, was the worst customer service experience I've ever had at any post office. I came in on a Friday afternoon and the older man behind the counter was so unhelpful, I just couldn't believe his attitude toward me asking him a few questions about returning fastrak tags. He was very rude and snarky. I left with more questions than answers. The only reason I came to this one instead of the one in San Bruno is because I was close by at the time. Never again. I think I lucked out when I got there. There wasn't a line. I waited to be helped. I probably waited about 1-2 minutes. The counter person thanked me for waiting and helped me get the package that couldn't be delivered earlier in the week. After the past couple decades, I've usually associated the Post Office with the likes of other inconvenient destinations with bad reputations like the DMV. My visit to this Post Office was super efficient and painless! They had multiple staff at the counters, and Walter was really kind and effective. He read my mind and asked if I wanted to add tracking to my package, which I would have forgotten if he didn't ask. Because I had to go on a lunch break, I really appreciated how quick the visit was: I was in and out of there within just 5 minutes! read more

A bit of a smaller USPS location, but since I only needed to send out a couple of certified mail letters, it was pretty easy to accomplish my goal here. I came here on a Saturday morning expecting there to be a bit of a wait but luckily, the line of 2 people ahead of me moved quickly due to one very efficient guy working behind the counter. I'm redoing my post as at that time I did my first review, I didn't know the names of the gentlemen that work at this post office. I come here very often almost everyday now because of my online business shipping needs and I always get helped with a great positive attitude by the two gentlemen that work here. Walter is amazing!!! Always polite and happy to help me. I appreciate his positive vibe as other post offices I've been too have rude employees. I'm very thankful that I can comfortably ask him any question and I know he will have a polite and informative response to help me with my shipping needs. Jose also always helps me politely and efficiently with a great attitude. He's always asks if he can help in any way before handing me the receipt and circling the bottom scan barcode at the bottom with his finger. I'm very thankful that they both work in this branch and it's always a pleasure to see them there when I walk in. I definitely miss them when they are not there. This postal location service to my package drop off needs very efficiently. In addition, this location for the US Post Office was also well stocked with Priority Mail shipping supplies. Much better than my home location in Pacifica which never has USPS Priority Mail padded flat rate envelopes. The one on Chestnut in South San Francisco had these today when I asked. The older Filipino worker at the counter was less than helpful. I went to send out party invitations and only needed to know how many stamps would be required to mail the invitation. The worker said you cannot mail invitations. He proceeded to bend several of the invitations and damaged two of my invitations. I asked him nicely to stop bending my invitations and he threw them back on the counter towards me. I left and went to another post office where they told me it would require two stamps to mail. Was that so difficult? read more

Best post office ever. Minus one for being a little run down. I'm a big fan since they know me here! The customer service here is amazing, everyone gets to know me by name. They are very patient as I come in weekly or biweekly since I sell a ton of my stuff on ebay. Accepts credit cards. Look for anthony and the chinese lady they are my favorite, they'll treat you like royalty. If your from the neighborhood they'll even remember where you live, a little about your family, and how you were when you were little, so presh. Hands down go here!! Tell them Diane sent you! Best part is I think the place is open till 5:30 and they take anything old boxes, first class mail envelopes, no problem anything goes! So this review goes to the gentleman who's been working there for years. (Totally forgot his name), he's an older African American decent and he's always jolly and always has a positive attitude. I went there to mail out an urgent letter 10 minutes before they close on a Saturday, 4/22/2023. It was busy with a line of customers. Returning a package and the seller only sent me the shipping label without the QR code. Post office would not print nor did they allow me to print at their office. Online it says you can not sure why this office says you can not. Had to drive to fedex have it printed etc... returned to the office to ship and they were complaining that I didn't tape the label to the box. Jesus Christ provide a service and tape it for me. This branch of the USPS has been very serviceable for most of my time living in South City. Since it's the closest branch to my house all my packages that require signatures end up here when I'm not home to sign them. It's nice that I have an actual post office near me so I can take my mail here to insure that it gets delivered right away. I really hope they still keep this post office around after the Safeway closes when the new Safeway on El Camino opens. read more

I went at about 2pm earlier this week and as I waited in line, I heard one employee gently remind the other employee to take his break. From what I could tell, it sounded like neither of them had taken their lunches yet but Thomas, the man who would eventually help me, said he'd like to help the customers in line first. I don't care if the building is worn or brand new, if the lighting is dim, even if the line can sometimes be long (you can't really blame them for that...)-- the employees here are always kind and helpful. They're patient when I ask about things like postage insurance or picking up a misdirected package. They do their best to make their customers' experiences as pleasant as possible (which is surprisingly hard to come by these days-- wouldn't you say?) read more

Every time I come here there's at least 4-5 people ahead of me! The post office is old. The lighting is so dim. One can tell that this place is getting old. The clerks or workers (not sure what you call them) are very kind but I hate having to wait in line just to mail a package or buy a stamp booklet. It's the closest post office to my house but not my first choice when I need to deliver a package. If you're in a hurry you might want to find another post office. read more

I've never had good service at this location, and in the future will always make the trip to downtown SSF or even to Pacifica. Wally and the other ladies who work there have gotten used to seeing me come in and are always welcoming and nice. They'll even help you figure out the cheapest way to ship something. Yes, this place is a little run down and nothing like the hustle and bustle of the one about 1.5 miles away at the San Bruno location. I went in this morning because an employee didn't fill up the free USPS "ship anywhere, any weight for one flat rate" boxes. I waited patiently in line and asked for a medium flat-rate square box". Postal employee: " what size?". Me: "Ummm, I said medium." Postal employee: "which one, the box or the rectangular one." Me: "I need 1 medium flat-rate square box (notice that was my original question) - not the circular one, nor the triangular one, but the square one. Postal employee goes to the back, then refills the stand by the entrance and tells me "Sir, they are filled now." Me - so I go back there and she goes "NEXT!" I was like WTF??? DUMB b****. The line was real busy too with about 10-12 ppl in line. Otherwise, the other employees are cool and give me the options on shipping. Definitely agree with the below as a hit or miss. By the way, does anyone know why there's a "bag lady" that hangs out with all her worldly possessions on the far end of the parking lot in front of the Safeway. I'm just curious. read more

Wow this place is OLD and smells awful in the lobby. They probably should give this place a renovation. It's been a long time since I've seen a post office so old. I feel kind of sorry for the employees having to deal with the rundown desks and outdated decor. However, the employees there seem very upbeat. This review is strictly for the COVID19 time period. The counters and floors have not been washed or disinfected. The plastic film put up at the check-out counters were not installed correctly (if you're going to go through the trouble to put up a flimsy barrier, at least put it up correctly so it looks effective.) And they clearly haven't been changed once since being installed 6 weeks ago. The workers do dont have PPE, hand sanitizer or anything to protect themselves or customers from sharing germs. There are no disinfecting wipes or any cleaning solutions for the card pad or pens. During a time when retail services are stepping up cleaning protocols, this is not even slightly the case at the SSF post office. If you go, bring your own disinfecting wipes and don't take the paper receipt home. read more

I went in the morning and the worker there was very friendly and efficient even though he was running the whole post by himself. They have no functioning COVID-19 precautions. The plastic film barriers have fallen down, there are no apparent sanitation efforts , and the clerk wears his mask with his nose outside. I recommend using a different location during the pandemic. read more

I don't normally write reviews about post offices, but after my experience here today, something had to be said. I stopped by around 1pm to drop off a bunch of Save the Dates for my wedding. I had about 50+ to send out and was unsure about the postage since our Save the Dates consisted of a wooden mason jar magnet, which made the envelope a little bulky, but nothing crazy. The magnets are only about 3 x 4 inches wide and less than half an inch in thickness. I weighed them beforehand and they were 0.9 oz. Still unsure about the postage process, I decided to go to the post office to get some advice on the best way to send these out. When I got there, I told the lady that helped me about it and she seemed kind of annoyed. She took one of the envelopes and was pressing against it trying to figure out what it was. I told her it was just a small magnet and she said "you shouldn't mail things like this, it's bulky. It's gonna be hard to mail this out." She basically made it sound like it wasn't possible to mail them out because of the "bulkiness" so she said, "We're gonna have to put a tracking sticker on it and it's going to be $2.18 for each envelope." I told her it was only 0.9 oz and she said, "Even though it's light, you're still gonna have to do the tracking for $2.18 each." My fiance was with me and we had no idea what to do from here. She didn't even really offer any advice aside from "you shouldn't mail things like this." She also started complaining that it was busy and it would take long to do it. She peeked at my tote bag with all the envelopes and looked annoyed seeing how many there were to send out. I also had 3 envelopes to mail out internationally and she complained saying, "This is going to be difficult to send out. You're gonna have to fill out this form, it's gonna have to go through customs, etc, etc...and it's going to be $13.95 EACH." Wow. So, I said, "Ok, never mind, I'll figure out something else, but I'll take the sheet I need to fill out and take a look at it." So, with a bunch of stuff to send out and no real answers to our problem, my fiance said, "can we just mail some of them out now and figure out the rest later? We can come back at a later time for the rest." She then said "give me some of them" and I gave her a stack and she started processing them and had to put a huge, white sticker with a tracking number on the envelope with a big sign that said "$2.18 postage" on it with a bar code. After she finished her stack, she said, "ok, give me more" and kept processing. As she was processing, she was kind of just carelessly throwing them behind her in a little box and I just kind of kept my cool and didn't say anything. Just as I was about to hand her another stack, she said, "no, thats enough. I can't do anymore. The line is getting too long, they're gonna get mad." Who? the customers? I thought I was a customer too? At this point, I was annoyed. She then printed out our receipt and it was $46 bucks for 20 of the Save the Dates. I walked out of the post office, bummed out, with just 20 Save the Dates sent out and $46 wasted. My fiance probably felt how bummed out I was and asked if I wanted to go to another post office and send the rest out. We drove to another post office and I asked them the exact same thing about our postage and they said, "Oh, let me weigh this first. Ok, all you need is an additional oz stamp for .21 cents. After you place these next to your other stamp, you can come back to me and I'll take them for you." I was like, "Wait thats it? Even if it's slightly bulky?" And the lady said, "Yep, just the additional stamp and you're good to go." I told her, "Well, I have a lot of envelopes" and she said, "Oh, no worries! That's perfectly fine." So, I bought the stamps, dropped them off to the lady again and she happily accepted all my Save the Dates. Before the transaction was over, I asked about international postage and told her I had about 3 to send out internationally. She said, "Oh, ok let's see....all you have to do is put this blue stamp + an additional oz stamp and it'll cost you $1.15 for each." WOW. It was like night and day between the 2 post offices I visited today. I was ripped off BIG TIME and the customer service was very poor at the Chestnut Ave. Post Office. I'm just glad I got to send everything out. I apologize for this super long review, but I had to say something. read more

RUDE, RUDE, Rude! Every time I go there early in the morning, they are LATE opening up. Once a very nasty young Asian woman employee came to unlock the doors and asked "Hasn't Ron come in?" How should we know, Lady - YOU work here - supposedly. It was obviously a BIG inconvenience for her having a line of 10+ people waiting for her when she was the one late for work. At her service window, her attitude only got worse. Where do you go to complain about this lack of "customer service". I'm taking my business to the Linden location. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE HERE SUCKS A**. Inconsistency with their guide lines, too much small talk between workers and patrons, not enough staff, long lines ALL THE EFF'IN TIME. I swear also, there always seems to be a dispute and miss communication between the workers to the patrons. I don't know if its a language thing or that staff needs some serious coaching and developing on customer service skills, but its lacking. My last straw was today.
