This is my first review after becoming a member of Yelp 6 years ago, as I very rarely feel the need to rate any business badly. Despite that, here goes: My fiancée/girlfriend and I read the reviews and were pleasantly encouraged by the glowing nature of them. Decided to go with this establishment. On move in day, my girlfriend contacted them to inquire about locks. At this time she was told their hours of operation were not 9:00pm [i.e. gate access hours], but 6pm [i.e. office hours]. A reasonable misunderstanding on our part. The woman at U.S. Storage suggested my girlfriend call me to learn if I was able to make it by 6 pm. I told my girlfriend I would leave immediately [from 2.8 miles away]. My girlfriend then called the woman at U.S. Storage back to let her know I was on my way and would arrive shortly -- which she appeared to be fine with over the phone. The conversation my girlfriend had with them led her to believe that they were not in an extreme rush to close up shop, as she was told they could show me several units when I arrived [This takes time, does it not? Any reasonably minded individual would assume they were, therefore, not in a rush to close shop]. Previous to this, my girlfriend supplied much of my info to make the transaction expedient on both ends. I rushed to get there by 6pm. I walked in the door with a smile and promptly explained the reason I was late was due to pulling into the wrong storage location half a block down. I was then told, in an oddly terse manner, that they had shut the system down for the night, that I'd have to come back the following day. The time on their wall clock read exactly [no exaggeration] 6:01 pm [I was one minute late]. Furthermore, a blank 'Occupant Information Sheet' was pushed across the desk toward me. It was as if the conversations my girlfriend had with them never happened. Furthermore, I was scolded, as if I were a some sort of subordinate, for not calling them myself [I was driving, to get there, and unable. I prefer to follow the letter of the law that way. The truck I was driving didn't have hands-free calling features like my Range Rover. More to the point, it is utterly commonplace for someone's wife, fiancée or girlfriend to make these sorts of calls on their behalf]. I explained that it would be a fairly substantial hassle to have to 1) Drive the 15 foot truck back home. 2) Unload it right back to where it came from. 3) Return the truck. 4) Re-rent another truck in the a.m. [I had no idea if the truck I was in was already reserved for the following day] 5) Re-load a 15 foot truck. 6) Drive back to the storage facility in the a.m. All over being one minute late. Nope, they didn't care, I was one minute late and that was that. Their treatment of me, as a well meaning customer, was as though I had tried to force them to remain open, and/or was seeking preferential treatment. Nothing could be further from reality. I was simply seeking run of the mill customer service... that thing that used to exist in the good old days. HERE'S MY COMPLAINT IN A NUTSHELL: If a business is going to close immediately at 6pm ***TELL US THAT*** while we have you on the phone and I won't bother rushing over, as I could have made it to a closer location before the evening cut off -- and therefore saved having to rent the moving truck for an additional day. As it stands, I'll take my business elsewhere. I'm happily paying more to keep the moving truck loaded and idle overnight and more for the new storage location -- which, incidentally, has 42 *5-star* ratings [and only 5-stars across the board. Might want to go there instead, people]. Zero chance I'd go back to U.S. Storage in the am after being turned away at 6:01 pm and scolded after they acted as if running a minute or two late wasn't an issue over the phone. Everyone who knows me knows I'm a man of principle and will gladly pay *more* for top quality service/communication. Thus; 1-star for terrible communication, wasting my time, scolding me, zero customer service, and cost on the additional day of truck rental. I tossed their Occupant Information Sheet in the garbage. U.S. Storage is obliged to keep their 1/2 off. Paying full price at the new location is zero issue for us. Mind you, I was courteous the entire time. I even held the door open for the male worker [the woman's partner] upon leaving. Did I receive a 'thank you' for that? Nope. My girlfriend's response: "Strange, she seemed so nice over the phone." My experience with this place was, in a word, bizarre. Back to LA we go. p.s. The woman at the truck rental was a sweetheart accommodating us on the impromptu extended rental. --UPDATE BELOW-- The NEW storage facility [immaculate] had me up and running, keys in hand in [I kid you not] under 60 seconds from the moment I walked through the door [Note: We provided them with preliminary information over the phone to make the transaction expedient on both ends]. This is hands-down the best storage facility I have rented at, The location is perfect being right off the freeway, prices are great and the staff are extremely nice and helpful, I will be renting here for the foreseeable future and couldn't imagine myself going anywhere else, if you are in the orange county area do yourself a favor and check out US storage because you won't be disappointed. read more

Shortly after moving in, needed to change the size of my unit. It was a real hassle for the management, but Barbara & Jim were super helpful and friendly. I love this facility - it is immaculate and the hours are great - 365 days access! read more

Today I signed up for a storage rental unit. I found this was the best selection for my storage needs. During my inspection of the facility at the Orange location was very clean and well run. A big plus was the security systems at this location. I found Jenny to be helpful and professional. In addition Jenny answered all my questions and made the transaction in renting a storage unit painless. This is the first time I ever rented a storage unit and if I need to rent again my first choice will be US Storage ! read more

I had my storage broken into this morning. Management called me and wanted me to come down and file a police report. What they can't do it by tacking it onto their vandalism report? It is very frustrating - the alarm system is not working properly and the camera system is out of date that I can't get a copy of the video. Their video system is low quality/grainy useless video - they need to upgrade these systems. Well, how about you take some of my monthly fee and invest it back into the property.... read more

My parents have been using this storage unit for some months now as they rearrange the house. There have been no issues with the unit, everything is secure and safe, however a couple of weeks back the lock on our unit was screwed up. It looked as though someone else tried to put their key in, mistaking their number for ours, rather than an intentional tampering, but we brought it to the manager, Ana's, attention nonetheless. She was so accommodating in replacing the lock! Made it very easy, did it for us there on the spot after verifying our ID as the renters of the unit. Her customer service was fast and superb, and the security of the site was never compromised. Our whole family was impressed with how well the situation was handled and continue to use the same unit going forward. read more

Wow. I have never in my life experienced such terrible customer service all across the board (property managers, the corporate help line, and region managers). At first, the property managers were great and very helpful when I was a prospective occupant. When I finally signed the lease, everything was fine. I am a local college student but I live in Northern California which makes it difficult to keep a storage unit key Down in Orange. I had a key mix up and needed the lock to be cut off my unit because my brother did not have the key with him when he went to help move me out. He waited 3 hours, with the U-Haul truck while I was forced to jump through hoops of fire to prove that I authorized my brother permission to witness the cutting of the lock. I was told NO over a dozen times while I calmly explained my entire, time-sensitive situation even though I had given notice days ago but had never heard back from the seemingly helpful property managers. When I called, a lower-level employee told me he was unable to do so without me present. This is a company policy and I understand its purpose. I WAS FULLY COOPERATIVE WITH ANY AUTHORIZATION REQUESTS THEY SENT MY WAY and I was CONTINUALLY AND RUDELY DENIED. After 3 hours, the regional manager finally agreed to our requests but it was ABSOLUTE HELL trying to even get a call back from anyone with authority. BOTTOM LINE: our simple and understandable request was denied too many times to count despite our full cooperation and patience. My brother was literally sitting in the waiting area, with a rented truck, for 3 hours while the only employee in the office leisurely emailed the other managers. Literally NO ONE cared that this was an urgent move-out with a simple key mix up. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE OUT THERE. PLEASE BEWARE AND USE MORE CUSTOMER-FRIENDLY FACILITY IF YOU LIVE OUT OF TOWN. I have never felt so stronly about a company that I need to write a Yelp review, so this is my first post.** read more
