I hope anyone considering USA Auto Service for an A/C problem reads this first. My A/C was blowing cold air, then randomly switching to warm air. I explained this clearly to George. He was VERY confident that a $400+ A/C/Freon service would fix it, so I trusted him. After waiting about three hours and paying over $400, I drove home and THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM CAME BACK IMMEDIATELY. I called George and asked if they had actually diagnosed the A/C. He said yes. Then how was it properly diagnosed if I left with the exact same symptom? I brought the car back, and suddenly they told me the compressor was the problem and quoted around $2,000 more. This is what makes me angry. I didn't go there asking for a Freon service. I went there to find out why my A/C kept changing from cold to warm. I paid over $400 based on their recommendation, and my problem wasn't fixed. I wish I had read the other A/C reviews before going there. Please ask for the actual diagnostic results before paying for an expensive A/C service. I hope my experience saves someone else the same frustration and unnecessary expense. read more

I went to USA Auto Service on September 21 for an oil change and battery replacement. While I was satisfied with the actual maintenance performed on my car, I was very disappointed with the customer service I received from Maria at the front desk. When Maria was going over the services with me, I had difficulty hearing part of what she said. When I asked for clarification, her tone came across as condescending and dismissive rather than helpful. At one point, she told me, "complimentary means free," in a way that felt unnecessarily patronizing. I understood what the word meant; I simply could not hear what she had initially said. As someone who has earned an Accounting degree and considers myself highly educated, I genuinely found that comment insulting. It made me feel as though I was being spoken to as if I could not understand basic terminology, when the issue was simply that I did not hear her clearly. Regardless of a customer's educational background, no one should be spoken to in a way that feels belittling. As a person of color, the interaction also made me especially uncomfortable because the way I was spoken to came across, from my perspective, as potentially discriminatory. I cannot speak to Maria's intent, but I can speak to how her tone and manner made me feel as a customer. The interaction left me feeling talked down to and singled out rather than respected. Maria also forgot to return my ID. I acknowledge that I should have remembered to ask for it before leaving, but given the earlier interaction, this added to my frustration with the overall experience. I do want to recognize George, who handled the maintenance on my car. He was very polite, professional, and informative when explaining the work being done. I had no issue with the quality of the maintenance or with George's service; my concern is specifically with Maria's conduct at the front desk. I would strongly encourage USA Auto Service to address this directly with Maria and reinforce expectations around professionalism, respectful communication, and how customers are spoken to. Front-desk employees set the tone for the entire business, and customers should not leave feeling belittled, stereotyped, or singled out. If Maria happens to read this, I hope she takes the criticism seriously and reflects on how her tone and choice of words can come across to customers. HORRIBLE SERVICE, STAY AWAY. I came in first week of July to repair an AC leak, I was charged $500 and was told the leak was fixed. They stated they put a dye in the freon and to return in 3 days to see if there was an additional leak. I returned in 3 days and no additional leak was identified. Two weeks later the freon leaked blowing hot air, when I returned now they state that the compressor needs to be replaced and are asking $1800. This place is a fraud while I was here there was also a "repeat" client. What a great business model to continue to have reoccurring business. I have been coming here for 10 years for my annual smog, the one time I needed my car serviced I trusted them and have learned my lesson. read more

We have been getting only smogged here since we moved here 9+yrs ago,because they were know for the $9.99 smogged, came in today after they got my car in the system the ladies upfront said it was $19.99 now plus tax which was weird because the stack of cards they have at the register says $9.99 smogged and oil change, had I known I could have gone somewhere near me.The male Hispanic manager came in greeted me when I was already at the front desk talking to the Girl up front, He asked me what I needed I said just a smogged and I've dealt w him before w our other cars so I know how he works he likes to upsell and look into stuff that wasn't asked for. What was weird was he asked me for my zip code? Keep in mind being there several times never once he asked for that so that's a little suspicious why? I've been here before for a smog check and the gentleman named George was really friendly. They have me a work up to bring my car back for service. So I did some months later. When I went in they gave me a list of what they thought needed to be addressed. I was able to get in house financing and took care of what was immediately necessary. I was happy about the service and my car seemed to be doing fine. HOWEVER-literal days after I'd been to the shop-my car continued to die. I took it to an auto zone and they told me my battery needed replacing and my headlight was out. This is unfortunate because I'd just left the shop and they didn't mention any of that. Battery's are pretty important. I'd still go back-to this shop but it feels a bit neglectful to not run a complete test. Like...what else did they miss? My encounter with the business model of USA Auto Service on Decatur and Post was an encounter of extortion and corruption. I contracted with USA Auto Services to fix the overheating of my engine and to change the oil. USA reported that I needed to change the radiator and electric water pump that serves the turbo. I made the mistake of not test driving the vehicle before taking possession. My wife drove away with the vehicle. I was called by the manager that after repairs my cooling system may fail once again do to a damaged fuse box another 500.00 dollar repair. Hmmm, I was thinking I have a up sale problem? I was told by mechanics that my 2013 Volkswagen GTI may over heat once again if I did not replace fuse box due to electrical failure communicating with electrical water pump. They replaced radiator and electric water pump. Was the water pump even a problem? Is the car still over heating? The mechanical water pump and thermostat were previously changed. I paid the bill my wife drove the car home one mile. I took the car for a test drive when I got home. It overheated up and down on temp gauge (Hot then 190). I drove home and suspected foul play. I drove the car to USA auto after confirming with ChatGPT. ChatGPT told me that the fuse box was definitely not the problem. The problem was air in the system. It told me to turn on heater. If the heater failed it was air in the system. It told me to elevate the front of the vehicle 8 to 12 inches to remove air. There were other instructions. HOWEVER this is not my job. I returned to USA Auto to talk with the manager. I told him the car was overheating. He started with his rant again about the fuse box. I told him I consulted with ChatGPT and I was cut off with I am a professional mechanic and ChatGPT is not a mechanic. I did not get a chance to talk about elevation. I got pissed! I left the shop I knew I was being played a fool. I came home and read ChatGPT once again. My wife went to the shop to talk with the manager and nothing changed. She returned asked me to go to the shop and try to sort out the problem. I called my credit card company and started the process to cancel the second payment. My Credit Card company asked me to try to resolve the issue. I returned to the shop with a clear request in my mind. To get the answer, did you elevate the front of the car when refilling the radiator? I asked the manager in the first encounter, "did you elevate the car"? No Reply, started to rant about fuse box. I asked once again, "did you elevate the car" he started to show me the electric water pump again and tell me his 20 year work history. I asked once again "for the last time - I ask, did your mechanics elevate the car" he ranted that his men have training and 10 years experience they know what they are talking about. Then he replied, Yes! I said, Ok. If you did I will have to return next week to replace the fuse box. At this point it was an issue of him lying and me testing it myself. Why? Because the manager is not saying pull the car in let's see if there is air in the system? Because he is not taking the action to test for air in the system it means he is setting me up for another $500.00 dollar bill. Truly the cost of replacing a fuse box is more than 500.00 dollars. His quote to me he would use a junk yard second hand fuse box was the scam. The focus of a second hand fuse box is that he would not change the existing box and only charge me for work not completed. I drove back home with my car over heating again. I am now involved with a 3 hour test and gathering supplies because I do not have tools to lift the front of vehicle. I set up rocks in front of my curb and drove the vehicle to raise the front. Just as ChatGPT said, the water reservoir drained into the engine releasing air. I waited for the car to cool down and I began squeezing the radiator hose. More air released. I purchased coolant and started to fill using 1 quart. I turned on the heater low fan for 15 minutes while running the engine. The heater began to heat the vehicle. I lowered the vehicle and finished filling the reservoir. I took the GTI for a drive. Victory, 190 degrees and holding no overheating. The point is that the issue of the fuse box was a con-job. The mechanics and mechanic manager knew that by not elevating the vehicle there would be air in the system causing the vehicle to overheat putting me at risk of burning up the engine. The objective was to embezzle another 500.00 dollars from me. I returned the next week to talk to the manager. I left a letter as to the conduct of the manger. The new manager talked with me. My initial experience was great. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. They checked my car thoroughly, or at least I hope they did. After inspection I needed a few things done and they worked with me on the price. 4 hours later they called to say my car was done. The next day I noticed my ac was no longer working, it was blowing hot air. It worked perfectly before getting the work done. I go back to USA Auto and they looked at it right away which was nice. It turns out when they disconnected things, the ac plugs were swapped. The manager explained that there isn't a way to distinguish between the two wires. I did wonder though, if that were the case why they didn't double check that it was done correctly. At this point I'm just happy that it wasn't anything more serious. It's been a few days since I had the work done and I noticed when I accelerate between 0-15 the car shakes. I've only been driving the car for a week before I took it in so I didn't notice it at first. I went on google and it said it could be several things. I decided to check my tires to make sure all of the lug nuts are tight. I get to the passenger side tire.. there's a lugnut missing! I did not want to go back to them because now I've lost confidence in them. I bought a new one and it fixed the shaking. Absolutely ridiculous that they missed something as easy and as dangerous as that. I've been driving it for days with my kids in the car, anything could've happened. The two things that missed should not have been missed and now it's ruined my impression of their work. I give them a 3 and not lower because of everyone's professionalism and great customer service when I was there. UPDATE: it actually turns out 2 of my other tires had something wrong with a lug nut. One is missing the cap and the other the cap appears to be loose because I was able to move it around. If there was an issue with the lug nuts, they should've mentioned it to me and I could've gotten them replaced. Having an issue with 3 out of 4 of my tires is crazy. I brought my 1988 Ford Ranger (2.9L V6) to USA Auto Services #1 for a smog check. They immediately accused me of removing the EGR valve and offered to install one. I explained I had never tampered with emissions equipment. I paid $34.99 and left. After researching, I found that some 1988 Rangers--like mine--were not equipped with EGR valves. My emissions sticker confirms this. I took the truck to another smog station the next day, and it passed without issue. When I returned to USA Auto Services the next work day to request a refund, the technician argued and incorrectly claimed the "EGS" label meant my truck had an EGR system. He showed me a reference for a different engine (2.3L 4-cylinder), even though I clearly showed him my 2.9L 6-cylinder engine and emissions sticker. The engine says 2.9 L across the top and clearly has six spark plugs. They refused the refund. In my opinion, they misidentified the engine, ignored the emissions sticker, and tried to sell unnecessary equipment. I won't return. I reported them to the DMV emissions control inspector who confirmed their error. read more

I've been going to USA Auto each year due to their great deal on smog test. I usually go to the location near my home but their system was down and the next location after that was down as well before I drove 15 mins further I called and their smog system was up. The two gentleman that were working the lobby were real cool and love to chat with the customers. I also appreciated the free tire rotation service. I looked at my other receipt from one their other locations and noticed they wrote that I declined the free tire rotation when it never offered. Needless to say I'm willing to drive the extra 15 mins to go to a much more caring service. The maintenance tech made note on my paperwork of repairs that need to be addressed with pricing but they weren't pushy like the first location. I took my car to USA Auto because it bucked on time and the check engine light came on. I was told that I needed a transmission. One of the mechanics stated that I have metal shavings in the transmission oil. The main manager there stated he could get me a used transmission for over 1,700 plus 600 labor. He insisted that it was dangerous to drive it because it could die while I was driving it. I asked if anything else could be done he said NO. I asked for my $150 consultation fee back and I was denied by the Main manager. I took it for a second opinion with a very reputable person/company that realized it was down a quart of transmission fluid. He replenished the fluid and I have not had a problem since! Please everyone beware of this company. My understanding is they used to be Perfect Auto but just changed their name and owner to the son. I am a retired senior (woman, thank goodness there are still reputable companies out there. I GIVE THEM A ZERO RATING! I have also contacted the BBB. 06/12/ 2026. I came into USA Auto to get my engine cleaned because I had deposits in it during the inspection. George kept on insisting my transmission was leaking. I would give this a negative 5 stars if I could. Avoid this place like the plague, especially if you're an elderly female. I've never been treated so badly as in my encounter with George, the manager. I brought my car in for a simple smog, and what ensued was horrible racist harassment and bullying. I sat and waited for my car to be finished. They called my name, and I paid. That's when things began to go horribly wrong. George came out of the back room and started to harass me about letting them do an oil change...he must have noticed that the car said it was due for an oil change. I asked him how much it would cost, to which he replied $300. I told him that I have an appointment, but that I would be back. He said, "no you won't, you've been here 12 times only for a smog check. You think I can survive on $9.99 smog checks alone?" He held me hostage there and refused to return my key just so he could scream at me some more in front of his staff and customers. I became fearful for my life and just kept asking for my key back so I could leave. I hadn't realized that George had a history of harassing older females, shoddy work, and fraud until I got home, shaken from the ordeal, and read the other reviews. They even have several lawsuits against them. I guess they prefer no business to repeat customers. To top it all off, I checked my credit card statement and saw that they charged me twice! George obviously hates his job, so please put him out of his misery and FIRE him!!! This could have easily been a 5-star review. I'm used to Smog taking 5-minutes and staying in the car. We came in on a hot day with 3 young children. We asked if there was a wait and they said "no.". After they took all of our information they said we needed to get out of the car and it would be 30 minutes. I asked why and George just said "it's a process.". Admittedly, I was frustrated, and I told him "Smog should only take 5 minutes." He kept repeating "it's a process." After about 15 minutes of waiting I pointed out that they hadn't yet started and he said, "Do you want me to make it take longer?" That was the clincher. Paid $900 for them to replace headlights I provided and install window and door lock actuators. When we picked up the truck, the front headlight was missing.
