We did a full buy out for a teen celebration which included dinner, drinks and a DJ dance party on a cold January night. This place was absolutely awesome. Mark Nott from Utopian worked with us on all details to ensure our event turned out exactly how we envisioned it. He was amazing to work with and extremely responsive throughout the planning process . The place is naturally decorated so unique / cool and colorful that you really don't have to bring in much additional decor. The giant disco ball in the middle of the room as well as choice of color lighting included automatically gives a party vibe ( my daughter chose hot pink lighting and it was so fun ), The place is large enough for both a DJ / dance floor section and seating for food. We comfortably hosted around 110 people. We brought in our own DJ and Photo Booth . The food is fun, casual and delicious . Our guests raved about the smash burgers and fries . The tacos , salads, falafel stacks and appetizers such as chicken skewers and mozzarella bites were great as well. We did a consumption bar and our guests loved all the fun drink options as well ( they even let us do custom signature drinks for the event ). We were impressed they also willingly accommodated our guests dietary restrictions with gluten free and nut allergies as well as options for our vegan guests . For a small fee , they allowed us to bring in our own desserts Loved the optional rental upstairs from second city to host cocktail hour in a separate space ( note - would also be an amazing space for a wedding ceremony or mitzvah service prior to having the party in the utopian space). If you are lucky enough to host an event in the summer, the outdoor patio attached to the main room is amazing as well . The bartenders ignored myself and everyone else in line at the bar on multiple occasions and trying to order a drink took in excess of 10-15 minutes each time. No apologies for the delays, no urgency from the staff, not even a glance to acknowledge that they will get to you, simply no communication at all. Laziness and zero care for the patrons. Came here on a whim after eating at Professor Pizza. Cute spot, great outdoor space. I was here in May, so it was still a bit chilly, but they still had their heat lamps available so you could still enjoy the scenic skyline and play games. Great music selection, bop after bop, including fun nostalgiaic pop hits from the 00s. Based on when I came (not peak patio season), I found my experience to be very pleasant, ample attention from the staff, and lots of space in the bar/outdoor area. I went here a couple months ago in August to celebrate my birthday! I thought the concept was really cool and it seemed like a great place for young adults to have fun. I definitely enjoyed my time here. I played with the giant UNO cards, and me and my friends had a good time. The only thing is that it was pretty dark where we sat, so we had to put someone's phone with the flashlight on the umbrella to get better light. We also ordered food, and it was pretty good! We tried the nachos, boneless chicken, and the fried pickles. The service was alright--nothing to complain about but also nothing to compliment. The DJ was amazing, though. Not sure why this place doesn't have great reviews?! I live nearby Utopian Tailgate, and it is such a great spot to hang on a Sunday evening, having a beer and playing giant jenga with some friends. The amount of games and activities makes this place such a fun one to go with a group. Beer pong, jenga, connect four, bags... fun swinging chairs, great view of the skyline.. and fun drinks?! Even some heaters for nights it gets a little chilly. Personally I don't come here for the food, but they have easy to eat bar food, sliders, nachos, pizza.. etc etc. Cocktail menu is great though, so many fun and diverse options. Every experience I've had with a bartender or host here has been great- so friendly and helpful. I would definitely say to stop in on a sunny day for even one drink, you definitely won't be disappointed! v read more

I booked a party of 9 at 6:30 two weeks prior to the date of the party. I got a notification at 3:19 the day of that they were cancelling my party because of private events. I understand that private events may take over or whatever however they could've let me know a day before. Getting another reservation for 9 people three hours before a birthday dinner is very difficult on a Thursday during Chicago summer. It's very disappointing. My friend brought me here while I was visiting on a random weekday and I had no idea what to expect but it definitely wasn't anything I could've imagined on my own! It was surprisingly packed for a workday but still had ample outdoor rooftop seating and space where you could see views of the city and walk around to various themed rooms! Used to be fun, now it's just another gaudy rooftop full of corporate parties. Upon entering, you're scanned with a metal detector wand like they do at ratchet clubs. The food is rough. Ordered $22 chimichurri wings which were just plain fried wings with a side of ranch, no chimichurri flavor or anything else. Utopian Tailgate canceled my birthday party reservation just a few hours before our scheduled arrival. The reservation had been booked over a week in advance, yet they waited until the day of the event to notify me it was canceled. On top of that, I was told that my friends and I would each need to pay over $40 for tickets to attend an event they scheduled instead. It took me a couple days to write this because I was shaken mentally, emotionally and physically so badly by this incident on Sunday June 7th. My friend and I arrived to Utopian tailgate around 4pm. The security checked our identification and belongings. After completing this, security let us know it wasn't much of crowd upstairs because a vendor cancelled the event planned for the day. We still wanted to go up so we did. We got upstairs and checked in for our reservation. We were seated at a high top table by our server. We wanted to play tic tac toe but all the table ones where being used so our server let us know we could go to the huge floor size tic tac toe which cause for use to be moved to a picnic table by it. We moved to the area and started playing the game. Our server asked us if we were ready to order and we stated we were not ready to place an order yet. While playing the game a group of people at a table behind us offer us drinks. They had a huge tower of an alcoholic beverage and stated they were about to leave and didn't want to waste the drink so they wanted to give it to us. My friend and I accepted the drinks they poured us and started back playing the game. Our server came back up to us after seeing we had a drink and stated no outside alcohol was allowed. We stated that we didn't have any outside alcohol with us. We went back to playing the game. Out of no where this Caucasian with a brownish orange hair beard and sides of his head aggressively rushed my friend and started saying we can't allow you to have outside alcohol. We stated to him that we didn't have any outside alcohol only the drinks from what the people at the table behind us gave us. He said we were pathetic for taking drinks off the table where customers had left sitting around and he began coming closer to my friend and squeezed the drink she had given in her hand and was drinking in her face . He then had security put us out. We will be taking legal actions for the assault. read more

I haven't had food here, but this spot is great for day drinking and taking in the city views. Though the section where most of the tables are have blocked views because of the covered fencing. Also be warned that you will have to go through a line of metal detection and bag checks prior to entering the establishment. Once there, however, there's plenty of games (in exchange for your id), drinks, and music. If you're lucky, a shot girl will shoot a squirt of liquor into your mouth from a water gun! My particular drink on this day was the 'mi casa' off the menu- didn't realize that this was a) $20 and b) blue. $20 is pretty ridiculous for old town prices, and no where in the description does the drink hint at having blue curacao or anything that make the drink blue. When I think of a guaranteed good time, I think of Utopian Tailgate. So you must imagine my surprise, when I stumble upon their listing and find that they only have 3.5 stars. Every single time I've been here, I've been met with great service, solid munchies, fun drinks and a vibe-y playlist. It's a great place to meet friends, bring visitors, have birthdays, play games, you name it. While I was very sad after they got rid of the shark drink (yes, it included a gummy blue shark), I knew there was more to them and I have not been disappointed in any of my visits since. This is a great place for Friday or Saturday night. It's on the fourth floor and you have a great view of the city. The outdoor area is very large and there's bags, beer pong, and some other games you can ask for like Uno and Jenga. It doesn't get too busy until around 9 or 10. The outdoor rooftop patio is such a fun vibe; they play a good range of songs that most people know, so it's fun to drink and bop along to them. All of the staff are so kind and welcoming. The first time we went, we didn't make any reservations and the only open seating was at the bar. The second time, we were able to get one of the picnic tables out on the patio by booking in advance. There were a few areas blocked off for private parties and corporate events. What sets this place apart is their plethora of games that are available. We played beer pong, drunk jenga, corn hole, and I saw that they also have giant Connect Four and Uno. We ordered a "Chicago-style Briefcase" which is an adorably painted cooler full of 18 beers; this is a great option to save money because it's $18 cheaper than buying each individually. We also ordered the "Out & In" Animal Fries ($16) and the Spicy Crispy Chicken Sliders ($24). Both were delicious and helped us put down a good layer. We saw a table sharing the Squad Goals and the Go Fish drink, which are served in a giant red solo cup and a tower, respectively. However, they said both drinks were mostly ice and mainly for show/fun. Lastly, the view of the Chicago skyline from this place is absolutely beautiful. To be honest, I kind of despise this place. The concept is cool and it has great energy, but I also just cannot get myself to like it. The bouncers downstairs are always rude. The people here are all typical frat boy, peaked in high school types. Our waiter on Saturday was really awesome though! He was friendly, funny, and added to our experience. I've never eaten here or had a drink that wasn't a lover boy or high moon -- so no notes there, other than the fact that a lover boy for $9 is absolutely heinous when a 6-pack is $12, but that is business baby. Not impressed I came here on a Thursday night . No happy hour or specials younger a tab rowdy hipster crowd 20 ish early 30. We had a table server Luke ,stated we had to give a credit to run a tab. I wasn't aware of that so I asked to cash out instead. I told Luke I've had a bad experience with staff not returning my card. I asked for him to return it ASAP but no he disappeared where I had to ask 3 other staff to locate him. He comes back with attitude and says if we want anything else go to the bar. I saw this place on Instagram so I was excited to finally check it out. My friends and I waited in line for about 15 minutes. The bouncer scanned our IDs and then we went up the elevator. We got drinks at the outdoor bar. There's a $25 minimum at the bar, so I recommend just buying drinks as a group and then Venmoing each other. I got the kombucha which came in a can and was an okay flavor. There were a lot of people out and most of the chairs and seating were occupied. My friends and I found a table but were asked to move because a group had arrived for their reservation. Then we played cornhole. If you choose to play, you have to give them your ID. At 11 pm, they collect the bean bags for for cornhole which seemed really early..... Overall, I had a good time with my friends but the vibes were not 100% there. This was the 3rd time my brother went and he also the vibes were not there so maybe it was an off night. I'd be willing to come back another night. read more

I started a tab with the bar inside and everything was fine until I got home saw that the bartender gave themselves a $86 tip after I had tipped in cash. Also they added drinks to tab making my over total almost double. I've been trying to reach out to the manager regarding this issue and they will not return my emails or calls.
