Our reservation was for 7:15. It took more than 40 minutes just to get a waiter to ask what we wanted for apps, drinks, and dinner. They didn't bring us water while we were waiting all that time. My one star review was based on the fact that they would not seat us because the kitchen was closing even though I had a reservation on open table. We went back a few weeks ago for dinner and it was really good. The dates and calamari for apps were great choices. My boyfriends pasta was so good. I think it was tagliatelle with a lamb sauce? Super disappointing and unprofessional experience. We had 6:30 reservations-my parents and I & another older couple were the only people there at this time. We were seated, got a round of drinks, an appetizer, ordered our meals, and sat back. Fast forward to over and hour later at 7:45 and almost every table is full and eating their meals but we are yet to get ours and were told nothing by our waitress. Eventually we find out she never put our order in. Now I understand this happens-we are all human. But to fix it all one has to do is own it and say "I'm so sorry-I messed up. Let me bring you another glass of wine on me. The order is put in now. I apologize." Instead we got attitude from the manager, no apologies, bad communication, and excuses. The service at Uva Rossa is excellent and the food - although pricey - is delicious. There's a fairly significant selection of wine and drink. We've tried the bruschette on multiple occasions and each time it has been bar none perfect. Even the selection of deserts is authentically Italian with an impressive attention to detail. Everyone who serves you will know the menu fairly well and will make honest recommendations for both food and drink. The problem with this place is really a matter of physical layout and price. First, a fairly significant portion of the restaurant is simply not comfortable and is not considered desirable seating. It's really designed as extra space for the wine bar portion of the restaurant for peak evenings. It gets exceptionally crowded and the service starts to degrade. Secondly the menu is very pricey and it's hard to gauge portions across entrees. I'd definitely recommend coming here outside of peak times if you're looking to enjoy amazing Italian food. Recently I came here for a private party and man was it good. So good.. I want to go back and check out other things that I saw on the menu. This private party was more of a "Tapas" party rather than a sit down which was pretty neat. The place looks kinda small from the outside but once you walk in, it's a good size. First came out a margherita pizza which everyone went crazy for. It was pretty good. Next came out some fried calamari with a regular sauce and a spicy sauce. I went for the spicy because I tend to enjoy a little heat. That sauce would've been awesome with some fresh Italian bread to go along with it. Then some meatballs came out. Those I could've honestly easily forgotten about because my mom and I make some pretty awesome meatballs (all nice and crispy too might I add...). Shortly thereafter, out came a salad and penne alla vodka. I didn't go for the salad and had a little bit of the penne alla vodka. I was looking forward to seeing what else came out. And BOY! Am I glad I waited... because in my opinion the grand finale was just... to die for. Out came a dish known as Polla alla Uva Rossa. HOLY SMOKES! So good I just want to run back and eat it all. It's fried chicken cutlets topped with grapes, cranberries, figs, in this incredibly delicious sweet and sour port wine sauce. Dessert was cake and cannolis. The cake was brought in by the friend hosting the party and that was also really good. The bathroom was a "onesie" but it was HUGE and clean!!! Will I be back? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY! We've come a number of times before but this will be our last. Our group made a reservation for a Holiday dinner for 8pm. From the moment we arrived, they were rushing us. We were provided one drink/wine list for a party of 8 and the waiter was exacerbated when we requested additional time to review the menu. When we ordered appetizers, he told us we needed to order dinner "right away" because the kitchen was closing. I said well, two of our friends are in the restroom can you wait until they return. He said the kitchen is closing at 9... I'm sorry, what? Why would they take a reservation at 8 if they were closing the kitchen an hour later and we are supposed to order for our friends? My wife and I have eaten there 5+ times in the last couple of months. The food is always good. There are always specials, which are amazing. I fell in love with the Brownie Crumble dessert. Amazing. There is a variety of things on the menu, and they are more than willing to make something special if you ask. We will be going there many more times. Cool place, cool feel, so glad to have tapas in Nassau!! Tuesday night, 7pm. I sat at the bar while waiting for a few friends. The bartender was friendly and informed me that they were out of Malbec. That was disappointing in itself, but I was a little sad to not be offered any suggestions on what might be comparable. I just ordered a house wine. It was not really crowded (I hear the weekends you MUST book a reservation) so I got a chance to look around. The staff is nicely dressed and pleasant, the sitting rooms are clean and I loved the look of the front room. Big, elevated family style table, with a cool Pottery Barnish square chandelier with fake, flicking candles. The bathroom...was just so PRETTY!!! and clean. I like the mix of brick, tile and wood. I found it to be very tastefully pulled together. We read the menu, but after the bartender read us an extensive list of specials, we shifted our choices to all specials. The eggplant meatballs were highly recommended but I found them to be a little underwhelming. They were a little mushy so maybe I was looking for a quick fry and a crunchy outside, then a more soft inside. The sauce was tasty. I love seafood but strangely realized that I don't think I have ever had oysters so we ordered the dozen. They were fresh and yummy and I will most certainly make them a habit. Stuffed artichoke was ok...which is not entirely fair because it is not on my "best food ever" list. I LOVED the lobster mac and cheese. It was creamy and tasty. The bartender wasn't completely attentive when we were ready for drinks each time and hoping that she was just having an off night. I really do not understand the hype about this place and how it could have an average of a 4 star rating. We tried getting in many times on weekends but it was always so crowded and we finally got a reservation for dinner on a quiet mid-week night tonight. The eggplant meatballs that everyone speaks about should be called breadcrumb meatballs since that is the only taste you come away with when you eat them. I couldn't taste anything that tasted remotely like eggplant. VERY disappointing and it was downhill from there - which is pathetic since that was supposed to be the "masterpiece" so many people write about. We were a party of 4 and the fried calamari that our friend ordered was pretty good. My sister ordered a pizza and the crust was totally weird and tasted cracker-like. Although I would never eat frozen pizza, I would venture to say that Ellio's, Domino's or Papa John's are probably better. The pizza gets a solid ZERO rating. I had the chicken cutlet uva rossa which was a fried cutlet (very tasty) with a very sweet mixture of figs and other sweet stuff in the sauce over it (feh!) and the sauce ruined the entire cutlet. The barley, or whatever the side dish was, had no taste whatsoever and didn't even have any salt in it, let alone any other seasoning. UGH! My husband had a pasta dish with a meat ragu sauce over it which he thought was just OK but I hated it and it needed more seasoning too. We shared a crumbled "brownie" that came with gelato, whipped cream and a fudge drizzle and I have no idea how they can call that a brownie. The boxed Ghirardelli brownies blow this thing away since this was only a chocolate, airy, crumbled sponge cake. They should be ashamed calling this a brownie and even dessert stunk. I am sure you realize that there is no way I would ever go back there. If you want a great Italian meal, go to Butera's. Every one of their restaurants is consistent and every dish is AMAZING! Uva Rossa feels like a NYC restaurant with its beautiful decor, lively vibe, and delicious, creative menu. I've been there four times, always without a reservation, and have always been warmly welcomed and comfortably accommodated. Somehow they've made the place feel like it's been around for decades, with a stone facade, wood plank floors, and my favorite, a brick wall with open shelves holding wax-dripping candles that shared their romantic glow with the entry foyer and the main dining area. So pretty! The bar area has a long community table which turns out to be a really fun place to be--a pair of couples next to us at first didn't want to sit there but ended up having a great time talking with us and the group across from them--we did too! The servers were very attentive and super-friendly--it's just a great place to spend the evening. Each time i visited, my group shared several small plates. We always started with a platter of our choice from a selection of Italian cheeses and cured meats--all fresh and delicious and served with cornichon, olives, and yummy crispy peasant bread. Can't go wrong with any of the bruschetti, but my favorites include an extra touch, like rosemary roasted tomatoes with ricotta and prosciutto, and some more adventurous ingredients, like pickled figs with taleggio and roasted pistachios. In my book, if a chef pickles figs, he's got some good stuff going on. My other go to dishes are the grilled brussels sprouts with pancetta and pine nuts and cheese, and the grilled clams--loved the taste of ginger in there! The fried calamari was crispy and not greasy at all, and the jalapeños brought them to a level above what you might expect--way tastier. Pizzas and sliders were great and fun to share, and my vegetarian friend was happy for the eggplant option on the slider, and the many other meatless options on the menu, especially the mozzarella on tomato salad.. I add either the sautéed spinach or broccoli rabe to each meal (gotta have my greens!)--always perfectly seasoned and delicious on a chunk of that peasant bread. We did share one main--the Italian style paella--clams, sausage, shrimp and chicken all in one bowl with perfect spicy tomato sauce and rice? Wonderful! For a small, local place there's a sophisticated wine list--I really appreciate that they organize it by flavor, like "Rich and Round" and "developed and complex." There's a nice range of prices--you can get a great bottle for 30 or $40, but you can also go crazy and get something very special there. For the area, there is no better place for entertaining friends, an amazing meal, and impeccable service. the Owner and his staff are attentive to your groups needs and has top notch wine and amazing food. recommendations do not leave until you try: 1) Homemade Stracciatella (appetizer) -- a bowl of refined mozzerrella with crusty olive oiled bread the whole group can devour quickly 2) baked clams (appetizer) - amazing crispy and flavorful filling that you can actually taste the clams still different from other choices in the area 3) the skirt steak over argula and the Spaghetti Carbonara (simple ingredients but the mastery in how it is assembled... the kitchen works magic and this where Uva earns its stripes. 4) the Salumeria and Cheese Plates - top notch. if you arent hungry for a big meal, try the small plates and leave yourself in the hands of the capable Bartending staff. i have been introduced to sublte Rose' or San Giovese's or stronger Merlots that just were paired magnificently. i cannot speak more highly about Uva Rossa, great for "Date Night" or special occasion. this is a gem in our area that i hope is here for many many years! read more

If I could give them 10 stars, I would. I am obsessed with this restaurant so much that my fiancé and I booked it for our engagement party and I'm counting down the days. Polpetta Della Nonna MEATBALLS! Get them. Stat. I haven't had a dish that I haven't liked. Some I prefer over others (like I will always choose the meatballs no matter how good the next dish is) but I find that for the most part you can always get a freshly made, authentic meal here with a nice wine pairing. The brownie crumble is also a must have as well as their mozzarella alla caprese and DEFINITELY try the tortino di risotto appetizer. Some of the things I've read in these negative reviews are absurd and seem to be written by people that only have very few reviews posted which always seems fishy to me. Yes it's loud-- it's an Italian restaurant! I'm pretty sure the owner never intended for it to be a quiet place. If a restaurant is great, it's going to be busy and it may require a reservation ahead of time. Since when should an establishment be docked stars because you didn't plan ahead and made reservations? I have been there more than a handful of times and to the one reviewer who said they have these so called "rules" about not being able to order drinks and an appetizer prior to dinner-- seriously? We have ordered drinks and appetizers before our meals every single time and were never told we couldn't. Food is an individual preference but giving an establishment 1 star because it was too busy for your liking sounds like a personal problem. As for me, I will continue raving! read more

Waited at the bar for 20 minutes for our 8:00 reservation (which I personally like) and then got a great corner table for dinner. Our server was great! She had a great personality & after reciting a ton of specials she gave us ample time to look over the menu & enjoy our drinks. We were a party of four & decided to share everything. It's so great when you can do this at a restaurant so you can taste multiple items. We had Barrata, Tuna Tartar, Eggplant Meatballs, Wedge Salad, Lobster & Meatball Sliders, Orchietta with Sausage++ and to top everything off Banana Ravioli for dessert. A great local Italian eatery, Uva Rossa is quaint and fun. As a group of 6 loud-talkers we definitely raised the noise level of this place but everyone seemed to be comfortable at Friday night dinner. We were greeted by welcoming hosts and an enthusiastic bartender who poured good drinks. Bread with puréed white beans kept us sated until appetizers arrived. As a table we shared the special Cacio i Pepe pizza with a nicely charred crust that was soft but substantial and artichokes that leveled up the dish. We also shared the eggplant meatballs and the zucchini meatballs which were both moist (I beg your pardon) and delicious. Both apps were perfect to share. Joe our server was attentive and helpful especially when we asked for menu recommendations. He gave truthful insight that was much appreciated. Fried porkchop with tomatoes and mozzarella was tasty but ordinary. The special pasta was rigatoni with bay scallops and rock shrimp in a white wine garlic sauce and was fantastic. Other dishes enjoyed very much by members of our party were the linguini with very fresh pesto, creamy burrata, and shrimp; the chicken margarita (basically chicken parm with fresh cherry tomatoes instead of sauce); and the halibut prepared without guanciale for our vegetarian friend. A minor critique is a pet peeve of mine that the kitchen insisted that we order appetizers and entrees at the same time even though people weren't jockeying for tables and it was still early. Literally JUST had dinner there. Ended up spending $60 per person on food for a meal with pretty good food and below average service. When we walked in the host said the dining room was completely full/reserved. Fine. We sat at a communal table at the front of the restaurant. On a Friday night, I believe a restaurant should be fully staffed. This one was not. There were two servers for the ENTIRE restaurant. It took 20 minutes for us to even give our drink orders. We were sitting at the table for an hour and a half and still only had our appetizers. The 3 bus boys didn't really know what was going on. They brought us bread with a dip, and when asked what the dip was, they didn't know. Getting any of the staff's attention was like pulling teeth. I don't mind dropping $60 on a meal if it's a high quality one, with high quality service. This one was neither. Definitely not worth it. We came because we'd heard great things. Our experience was so uneven, I can't imagine we'd ever go back. The staff was friendly, the decor attractive, and, for a Wednesday night, the place was jammed. And loud. Very loud. When I see that many people, I have to assume they've had good experiences--and I try to remember that no one bats 1.000. Still... We ordered 2 glasses of wine, appetizers and a main course. My glass of wine was appropriate in volume; my wife's was about half of mine, as if they ran out as they were pouring her glass. No big deal for us--she only drinks about a half a glass anyway. It then took two reminders and an hour--that's right an hour--to get our appetizers. Why didn't we walk? It was our anniversary and we actually were planning our vacation, so we didn't notice until we realized we were pretty hungry, the tables next to us, who sat after us, were on entrees, and the bus boy had just brought our 4th serving of bread. When they brought the appetizers they were clearly rushed and, well.. wrong. I think. We ordered the risotto balls which were gummy and lacking in flavor. We ordered an eggplant "meatball" which was mushy and tasted mostly of breading-- if there was eggplant in there, it was well hidden. And we ordered a meat ball which tasted exactly like the eggplant ball. Exactly. As in, either they brought us two of the same or it was the worst meatball I've ever had. Our entries hit the table a nano-second after the appetizers-- I guess they were looking to average out the minutes-per-course. My wife's linguine with clam sauce was excellent, as was my Uva Rossa Chicken, a fried cutlet topped with figs, grapes and a delicious sauce. Really good. (My problem was that during the hour wait for the appetizers, I ate about a loaf and half of bread-- I was so full that I took some dinner home, something I've done about the same number of times as the Jets have won a Superbowl.) We split the dark chocolate gelato which was too sweet and not gelato-ish at all. (Our mistake: our friends own an extraordinary gelato stand in Hampton Bays--we're spoiled and should have passed on the restaurant's version.) So-- can I recommend it? Nope. Is it a place I'd say stay away, stay away? Nope. We just may have hit it on a wrong night. But I would say, avoid the "balls" appetizers at all costs. read more
