Red sangria by the glass was pleasant (be careful as it is a generous serving by the glass and before you know it you'll be surprisingly drunk). This restaurant is really a diamond. Every time that I eat there, the food is like magic. I walk out wanting to share with everyone how great of an experience it is. Let's start with drinks, the bar offers up some incredible and original drinks that make it hard to choose a single cocktail. Last night I tried a lemon spritz, which was a spritz made with Limoncello. Why I have never seen this drink anywhere else I will never know, it is incredible, must try. Their wine list is impressive, and they even offer wine on tap, very fun for doing a little wine tasting. Now onto the food. Always, always, listen to the specials, they normally have something new and exciting to try. I feel like this is a place where if you're open to trying something, they will never let you down. Last night the chef was trying a little Mexican fusion with the specials, and I had a marinaded octopus tentacle with salsa verde and pistachios as an appetizer. The last time I had tried grilled octopus in Greece, fresh out of the ocean, it had been rubbery, so when I tell you this piece of fish was cooked to perfection, *chef's kiss.* I had never tried it truly cooked properly until eating here, and it changed my opinion on the fish entirely. It was delicate and tender. Amazing. Life changing. Next I tried something off of the main menu for a main, the linguine with clams, saffron, and zucchini. It was all at once new and comforting, like Grandma's cooking but better if you can imagine. This is not my first time eating here, nor will it be my last, but I just had to share in a review how wonderful it is, because every time we leave this restaurant we are absolutely glowing, and can't stop talking about how good it is. My husband and I had dinner here the other night and it was amazing! We shared their calamari and their swordfish special. The calamari is flash fried and then tossed with chopped jalapeño peppers and lemon zest and is incredible! The jalapeños gave it just enough kick. The swordfish was grilled over a bed of roasted vegetables. It was a huge portion and more than enough for my husband and I to share. Their service was great, attentive and efficient. This place rocks. I went in a group of 12 and they couldn't have been more accommodating to a big, loud group like us. The wait staff laughs along with you and keeps your wine glasses from drying out. I hate 80-90% of the restaurants I try, and no, I'm not demanding, but there's so much frozen garbage out there. I live on the north shore, so it's always a drag to have to go south, but I'll continue to make the journey to spend an hour and a half at this place. And the best news...it's a one-off. Reasonable prices for delicious food. Friendly, and just the right kind of noisy--sounds like everyone's enjoying their experience, and with good reason. The kitchen shines with originality, the service is impeccable. A black linguini in garlic and oil, topped with little neck clams and a split lobster tail was very flavorful, pleasantly offsetting the slightly overcooked lobster and minimizing disappointment. I felt like Russell Crowe in the film GLADIATOR in the scene where he is on the cusp of death and he is walking in a floating state as he ran his fingers through the tall wheat while seeing his deceased wife and son in the distance. Eating this grilled skirt steak with green sauce over a bed of baby arugula and tomatoes was euphoric. I imagine that that is what being on drugs is like. Giving this place 3 stars because the service is spectacular. However, food was nothing special. I found this place on yelp and read some reviews on their meatball appetizer.. I don't know what the hype was about because it was pretty bland and unsatisfying. I also tried the fried mozz appetizer, which was ok, but 100% not worth $15. Their margarita pizza was bland and so was the pasta dish my friend got. Honestly, the best tasting thing was the bread and dip they put on the table. I love this restaurant! First of all, it's beautifully decorated, from the wood beams, to the aged brick walls. Ambience is cool, romantic, fun - all of the above. I've had parties here and people have all wanted to come back. Perfect place for a party, with a large community table and room to roam around. You're not stuck in your seat - who wants to sit at a party? The pizzas and meatballs, eggplant balls, paninis, and brussels sprouts are all awesome..true crown pleasers. I loved the ambiance of the space. The food was excellent and high quality. The wait staff were professional and knew what they were doing. The atmosphere was rustic, warm and cozy. It was a smaller restaurant and while it was borderline to being a bit cramped, the small space was bedecked in real candles and rich texture. The food was high class and is bedecked in samples of cheeses and wines. There's difficulty with anything on the menu going wrong. I will warn the appetizer bread was stale and underwhelming. The wait staff contributed to a fulfilling experience and were hospitable, amicable and warm. I went to Uva Rossa a few weeks back and it was the perfect Sunday meal to end the weekend! I had the parpadelle con ragu' di Vitello (veal ragu) and it was awesome! It brought me back to my 4 pm Sunday dinners at my grandmothers. I can't remember what my girlfriend ate, but I can tell you it was gone rather quickly. As for the service, the wait staff and hostess were friendly and attentive making our experience enjoyable. I'm sure I'll be returning to Uva Rossa in the future to try some of their other menu items and think you should too! read more

The food was not good and way overpriced! When I went they must have had an abundance of cherry tomatoes because it was in every dish we ordered. We ordered the eggplant "meatballs" which were very good but it ended there. The fresh mozzarella with tomatoes was terrible. No flavor. I ordered the branzino and it was just a filet served over nothing but cherry tomatoes. Definitely not worth $30. None of my friends liked their dishes either, just really overpriced, bland food. The dessert may have been the worst part. We ordered a hot chocolate brownie with salted caramel gelato. It was dry chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream. You can get much better food elsewhere and I don't understand what others are raving about. They must not know what good food is. Also, be prepared to not hear the person even sitting next to you. Ordered meat balls parmigana over pasta. Straight forward, no big deal. Where on earth can I go to get a decent meatball? Where? Uva Rossa's meatballs are large, but they are very soft, so soft because they're bread, all bread with little flavor. What a disappointment. Oh boy, too bad. Pasta: -- what moron breaks the pasta prior to cooking? Now you cannot fork-roll the pasta with a spoon to make that lovey, energy efficient pasta ball. Why? Because it is broken it in half prior to cooking. As for the hostess -- enough said by everyone, I concur. But she remains, like a pit bull at the entrance--I almost expect her to snarl. Really neat looking place, host was really nice. We all loved our food ( Bruschetta Tapa), meatballs, linguini clams, Salad with grilled chicken. One in our party said the salad was the best she has ever had. So all good. The one downside..and it was significant. It was so loud..like mind numbingly loud that we could barely hear ourselves in our party talk to each other..and the table of 5 next to us was shouting so loudly that it made it even tougher. Loud places dont usually bother me but this was unusually loud. Otherwise if you can get past that go for it. And I think the room at the from is probably less loud. Incredible first anniversary spot. Just one year prior, we were flying to Tuscany for our honeymoon and today we were transported right back there. Fantastic selection of charcuterie, cheeses, bruschettes, appetizers and dinners. The wine selection was vast. We settled on a Chianti Classico which paired perfectly with our meals. One pappardelle with a veal ragu and a bowl of meatballs that seriously give Nonna a run for her money. We will absolutely be back to this incredible find. Oh!! After coming here twice now, I can firmly say that the cheese here is great. Both times I've gotten their bruschetta. So far the only one that has disappointed me was the manchego and mushroom one, the others have all been super tasty. (But warning, the Gorgonzola is pretty strong, so personal preference.) Their salad with goat cheese was scrumptious, just wish it came with more cheese and more walnuts. My dad got a branzino and it was ultimate perfection and my moms spinach ravioli were delicious (a little rich though). We just finished a wonderful meal at Uva Rosso. Friends told us about it and said we definitely needed to try it. We were delighted. The atmosphere is so friendly and the place is so pretty inside and very comfortable. But the best part of all were the owners and the wait staff. Our waiter Miguel was so personable and knowledgable and helpful but not too imposing. Best of all was the quality of the food. It was perfectly cooked. My husband had large scallops perfectly prepared over an Italian couscous type pasta called Farrow. I had branZeno over escarole and beans and everything was flavored just right. This review is a few weeks late, but I never seem to find enough time to visit this site to post reviews after I visit a place. Anyway, my husband and I recently moved to the area and were excited when we saw this restaurant under construction, since it was posted as a wine bar, and having lived in Spain, we are big wine drinkers. Once it finally opened, we made it a point to make the time to visit and that visit was a few Fridays ago. Let me preface this with the fact that I KNOW and expect that weekends for restaurants are the busiest - however, I was not quite expecting such rude treatment from the hostess when we entered. The place is beautifully decorated, but when you have the first person who is essentially the face of the restaurant being rude, it is not a good look. First, she told us that no tables were available. Not a problem. We asked how long it would be to get a table, and she tells us that it is not even possible to get a table. Then says 'you know, it's the weekend, we're busy.' in a rude tone. She turned to say something to one of the workers, so as she did this, I turned to my husband and said 'well, next time we come, we'll know to make a reservation', and the hostess heard me and says to us 'we only take reservations for parties of 4 people or more'. Sorry, but who does this? 1 - I was not speaking to her, and 2 - she was pretty rude with that response too. If it wasn't for the fact that we were dying to try this place, we would have walked out right then. She offered to seat us at this huge communal table up in the front, and while we would have preferred to sit at a regular table like normal people do, but since that was not an option given to us and we still really wanted to try this place, we said ok. This table is cool, but it is really massive- almost too big for the area that it is in, especially when the place gets packed, which it had gotten packed a little after we sat down. It made it very difficult for the waitress to get around and bring stuff to customers. As far as the food is concerned, we were actually a little bit confused because the menu makes mention of 'tapas' but if a Spanish person were visiting this restaurant, they would laugh at this. This restaurant is almost an insult to tapas with the prices alone as tapas is generally not as expensive as the prices on this menu. Regardless, we tried a few of the items to go with our wine and I will admit that the food was quite good. We tried 3 different kinds of the bruschetta from the menu, the calamari, and a few lobster sliders. The bruschetta and calamari were tasty, but the sliders were only so-so. Would we visit this place again? Perhaps. It's still relatively new, so they may possibly just need to work out a few kinks, but I think it will be a while before we ever do attempt to go here again. I m only giving 2 stars for now but this is mainly because of the overall vibe that was given off from the beginning. This is not a reflection on the food, or even our server. The hostess needs a little lesson in how to not be rude to the customers. They should also do something about that HUGE table. I dined at Taverna Uva Rossa last night with two other people and had a terrible experience. We were seated immediately by the friendly hostess, but waited at least 15 minutes before we were acknowledged by the wait staff. A woman finally stopped by our table to let us know that our server would be with us shortly--but he didn't come until about 5 minutes after that, when we finally asked the hostess, who was walking by, if/when our server would be able to help us. The server was friendly enough. We told him we were ready to order everything, as we needed to be in and out fairly quickly. We ordered the burrata appetizer, which was tasty. One person in our group ordered the lamb chop special as a main dish, and my sister and I got the Caprino salad and Toscana pizza to share. The salad and lamb chops came out at the same time. The person who ordered the lamb chops finished his meal, and we ate about three-quarters of our salad because we were waiting for our pizza. Finally the server came over to ask if we wanted anything else (basically asking if we wanted dessert or if we were ready for the check). We told him the pizza never came out and he looked surprised. He came back a few minutes later and told us the tickets must have gotten "mixed up." We told him we didn't have much time (since we had to be somewhere)--but he promised the pizza would be out in 5 minutes. We agreed to wait the 5 minutes. What a mistake... Another 15/20 minutes later, he finally comes out with a pizza, but NOT the one we ordered. It was a margarita pizza; not the Toscana (porcini mushrooms, taleggio, speck and truffle oil). I could tell right away it didn't look like what we ordered--so when he put it down I asked, "Is this the mushroom and truffle pizza?" He said, "Oh right, you ordered the Toscana. This is a margarita." We were so annoyed at this point that we just said, "We don't have time to wait for them to make the right one so this is fine." Then, to top it all off, I went to take a bite and the cheese slid right off the pizza and burnt my lip and face horribly. Today I have a nasty blister on my lip. After all that, I couldn't even enjoy the food that I waited about an hour for. We ask for the check and I was APPALLED to see that he hadn't comped the pizza or at least one of the drinks we ordered. I've NEVER seen a restaurant mess up that badly and not offer to take something off the bill. It was a horrible experience and we will NOT be returning. read more

We tried this place for the first time since it was pretty new and had some good word of mouth in the neighborhood. The decor of Uva Rossa is rustic, with lots of attractive stone and brick work to give it an Old World charm. The place has the name "wine bar" in it, but I honestly expected more selections than what appeared on the list. However, the food is absolutely fantastic. You can tell by the food that the Chef or Owner was either born or spent time in Italy. The Burrata Barese with the Copa and Roasted peppers antipasto was great. The Spaghetti Carbona in my opinion is prepared correctly at Uva Rossa and not that creamy mess you see is some other places. It was also delicious. Uva Rossa has a daily specials black board. I ordered the Venison Osso Buco with a delicious ragu' and served over Gnocchi. The best Osso Buco I've ever eaten. The wait staff and hostess were very friendly. We went on a Saturday evening and the dining room and bar were packed. We had reservations and I highly recommend that you do the same. We saw a couple walk in just before us without a reservation and I think I overhead the hostess say the wait was "over 1 hour". The dining room at Uva Rossa is a bit cozy and noisy as a result of the small room, wood floors, and brick walls, all of which help to amplify the noise levels. It's not terrible, but it becomes a challenge to have a conversation without raising your voice. Overall, I would definitely consider going to Uva Rossa in the future. read more

Such a delight seeing a restaurant so busy on a cold winters night! Too bad we did not experience delightful meals too... the pasta special was bland and the overcooked shrimps tasted "fishy," the Pialla Italiana boasts, chicken, shrimp, sausage and clams... there is lots of chicken and limited amounts of shrimp and clams. Now for dessert, the strawberry napoleon was topped with whipped cream that was runny, it should never have made its way to the table. Some of our party had the cream brûlée, that was good and creamy. I have to say the staff is professional, I would have brought these items to their attention however the restaurant was too crowded and noisy and we were there celebrating a birthday. I've been in the wine industry for some time now. My father lives in Malverne, so I come by once a week and we always hit Uva Rossa. I'll get to the point. Fantastic food at great prices. Fantastic wine list (focused on Italy) at great prices. A reviewer below wrote that the wine list is medicore. Anything but. When a wine bar carries wines such as Carignano from Sardegna, you know that they have a good idea of what good wines from Italy are like. AMAZING music on the sound system. Empire of the Sun, for Pete's sake! Fan-fucking-tastic service. Fernando is an exceptional manager, the chef comes out to greet people at tables and the bar, and the bartenders like George are friendly. I've observed Fernando many times, and he is on top of his game, helping waitstaff when it gets crazy, talking with customers, pouring wines constantly to people who need it. Really just puts a huge emphasis on customer service. Someone down below mentioned he is rude, he is not. He is incredibly calm in the face of busyness, and that person writing the bad review was most likely with a group of wanton morons. The customer is not always right. Other people have mentioned below that the service is subpar, and there have been times people have made mistakes with presentation of wine. I don't understand that. Frankly, as someone with knowledge in both the sales and winemaking end of wine, I am not impressed by those sorts of silly pleasantries. The list is solid, the staff is friendly and helpful, that's all I need. I don't mind helping them to look for a wine on the wall. Foreign wines can become complicated! The only thing I'd offer as a friendly critique is that the bartenders are a little light on wine knowledge, but I don't care. I know my way around a wine list, so it's fine. I can look past that because this place is AMAZING. Fantastic decor and ambiance. When I am working at my winery on the North Fork, I am always recommending our Nassau clientele to visit the place. This restaurant is a very rustic renaissance appearance with a cozy atmosphere. The draw at UVA Rossa is Tapas small plates, a few entree-size dishes, and their selection of reasonable price wine. The restaurant was very busy and was quite noisy. Our server did mention that they were very busy, and we should expect delays on being served. They did provide our cocktails rather quick. The only small plate we ordered were the Meatballs, one being the eggplant ball as an appetizer. The Meatball appetizers seem to be too creamy for my taste. My entrée was the Pan seared salmon with onion, capers and lemon sauce over spinach which I thought was good. A friend had recommended this place to us a few months ago, so being it was my birthday, we decided to venture over. We were very happy we did! We arrived around 6:30pm on a Tuesday so it was empty and were seated right away. We ordered our drinks and out came the bread and olive oil. Absolutely delicious. Most of our order was off the specials menu, but we did get a cheese plate, which was divine. We also had the Virginia oysters as an appetizer. For our meals, I had the pounded veal cutlet and my husband had the black linguini with seafood. The portions were huge! The food was very tasty. Being in the shadows of the Rockville Centre restaurant scene, Uva Rossa has definitely made a name for itself. My family and I decided to give it a try on a Monday night, hoping it would be a quieter night for a first experience. The bar was very crowed and loud...it was a pleasant surprise. I like to see a busy restaurant. However, we had no idea who the maitre d' was or where to stand to find one. We were part of the bar crowd. Finally seated by a bus boy, then we waited forever to get the waitress. We explained that we were unhappy with the wait and she took the drink order and food order at the same time. My husband's Vodka straight up in a Martini glass became a Vodka Martini with olives. I had a vodka gimlet and said I would take the olives, since we hadn't eaten, it was food! So he dropped the olives in my gimlet. So, now I have a dirty vodka martini with lime. Ugh! it wasn't worth complaining about. The appetizers came out, and true to all reviews the Burrata was delicious. But no oil/balsamic, and when we asked the servers for oil/balsamic, they looked at us like we had 3 heads and brought us a bit of balsamic in a small ramekin. Then we asked for oil. So they brought a bit of each in tiny ramekins. The waitress said, "We don't do that". OK? So, with messy utensils from 3 Burratas we expected a change of silverware. Nope. Not much I can say about the food, because we only had drinks here. However, the place was packed! They were hosting a birthday party, but still it was full on a Saturday night so make sure you get a reservation or get there early. Now onto the drinks... This place is a hidden gem in Malverne, NY. My husband and I shared the fried calamari the Burrata and the angel hair wrapped in speck. All three appetizers were delicious. We then had the spaghetti carbonara which is my absolute favorite at Uva and my husband had the short ribs over risotto and that dish was mouth watering as well. We were looking for a place to take a family member for a nice dinner. I was recommended to Uva Rossa. I have been to other restaurants in the area and have never been satisfied. This was an unexpected treat. The food was excellent. Terrific wine list, with many wines available by the glass, carafe or bottle. There were many daily specials. We had the baked clams, which were terrific. We also ordered a black pasta special and branzino. Highly recommend. The pizza and meatball sliders were also winners. There was not a thing that we ordered that was anything less than outstanding. It did get crowded and a little noisy but did not take away from the overall atmosphere. I would 100% return here again and is fully deserving of a 5 star rating. For a special occasion or everyday dining, Una Rossa gets an A+ read more
