Most items are more than 99 cents - but some things they sell are not only cheaper but also not easily found except online, so worth a look

An ecclectic variety of stuff, loosely organized in aisles and priced to sell. This is the stuff that Big Lots won't carry. Strange, cheap, fragile, disposable, roto-molded, remanded, pot metal, easily-broken... words that describe a lot of the merchandise here. --and I loved every moment of my time here. Our purchase list included: 1. Four metal clips haphazardly coated in rubber tool dip. Certainly toxic and carcinogenic. 2. An Indiana Jones coloring book. 3. Glitter glue. 4. A 99¢ visor for Mrs. since she forgot hers for kayaking. It was so ugly, she threw it away after our paddling adventure on the bay. There were other treasures here-- like ladies unmentionables for the morbidly obese, and Justin Bieber-themed duct tape. You don't need anything in this store... but like me, you know you love walking through, sifting through things that are practically free, and totally disposable. Finally, the antique "security camera" on the wall inside makes a visit worth the effort. Bonus points awarded if you have whiskey shots at the bar next door before heading to the store. Check this place out.

This location is incredibly clean, organized, and honestly one of the most welcoming dollar stores I've ever been in. I've been to many dollar stores where things feel cluttered or chaotic, but this one feels open, tidy, and very well stocked every time I visit. You can tell the staff really take pride in keeping the store looking great and maintaining it in pristine condition. I especially want to recognize David and Kristen. David works really hard to make sure the store always stays clean, organized, and well stocked. He's constantly moving around the store restocking items, straightening shelves, and keeping everything tidy. I've also noticed that if the checkout line ever gets more than a few people deep, he quickly jumps on a register to help out, stopping whatever he's doing to make sure the flow of checkout keeps moving smoothly. Kristen is wonderful behind the counter. She is always smiling and asking customers how they are doing, which makes the experience feel very welcoming and personal. She keeps friendly conversation going while also staying attentive to the line and making sure everyone is helped in a timely manner. She balances being warm and personable while also managing the checkout process efficiently. I truly wish more dollar stores had the same positive, welcoming vibe this one does. It's such a pleasant place to shop, and you can really tell the staff care about the store and the customers. Highly recommend this location. -Margaret

I haven't been to The Square in a while clearly to know this opened. I came today all excited for a brand new, large store and expected it all pristine and shiny. What the? They just took over the aged emptied 99 ¢ store and didn't do anything to it. Have they even cleaned the floor since they opened? How disgusting. The original floor than clearly has marks all over from the past business. How gross is the floor where the food is! It's Sparse and I didn't think it was possible to make cheap crap even cheaper. Things I used to get is now the thinnest plastic I've ever seen and the prices are up. The bottles of bleach I remember getting is now half the size. The store was pretty empty of customers on a Saturday as well. It almost feels like a temporary popup or something. What a huge disappointment. If I need to go to DT, I'll go to the smaller one on Clairemont Mesa Blvd in Kearny. But more likely, I'll just be going to Daiso that's clean and more better quality products. This place is depressing.

While times if have changed from this place actually being $5 and below for items, then moving to $5.55 and now offering items up to $25. Somethings are not a great deal anymore. While somethings can be found under $5, it seems like the mass majority of items are $5 or $7. There is a lot to see and look through from toys, to games, to candy to clothing and bath essentials. The store is for the most part stock with the exception of holiday or seasonal items, then its pretty much first come first served. They do have steal deals for clearance items in the past... like 50% off items. Again those items are first come, even if ordered online for store pickup. Which they have and I've used in the past before. Saves time, especially if its in-stock items. This store kind of reminds me of a higher end Dollar Tree. Because 5 Below does carry more name brands than Dollar Tree. What's new is that some of the cosmetics line offer a sample trial before you buy (see pictures) super tiny but awesome!
