As a veteran I am usually just grateful to have healthcare, so coming on here to write this review is saying a lot. I've been to two VA hospital in other states and this Facility is by far the worst. It's so bad you can't even get in Contact with the patient advocate. You at either waiting for months for an appointment or in pain in the ER waiting for hours. I've been a patient here for about 2.5 yrs. I just left a positive review on their podiatry office but I just wanted to say that I've also been to their MRI office, their pain management office and their emergency room. I was super impressed with their MRI office and their pain management office; extremely professional and quick. My experience at the ER was very good but I wasn't able to get in and out as quickly as I wanted and it was CRAZY cold in the waiting area (many of us were given blankets) and I don't normally mind the cold but this was beyond what I've experienced before. It took me 2 hours to get seen, get prescriptions and get out. That said, I was seen by Dr Mah after only 65 mins which was pretty good for an ER figuring I only had painful sinusitis so I was low in terms of priority. Dr Ma was very nice and told me to wait in the waiting area for my prescription paperwork. The thing that got me was I had to go up to the desk 40 mins after leaving Dr Ma's office to get action on my prescription paperwork. I'm not sure much longer I would've been there if I hadn't done that. Luckily I did so I was out in 2 hours. I had to go back in for a meningitis concern on a Saturday which either meant going back to the VA's ER or a MedStop and I chose the MedStop which was a good choice as I was in/out in 20 mins with prescriptions in hand. I still give the VA hospital (both downtown and uptown locations) a FIVE STAR rating b/c my overall experience has been phenomenal in the past 2.5 years. read more

Great facility, conveniently located in the downtown area with close access to surrounding hospitals, food and hotels.

The emergency room doesn't call people in order. They call veterans who are older to be seen first. I checked in first and 5 other veterans check in after me. They were called to the back first. EVERYTIME I come to this VA. It's the same thing. If your not older be prepared to wait in the lobby for a while. read more

Decent VA. Been coming for 6 months now. The parking can be spotty like most VAs, but usually can find a place easily if you get a morning appointment. I was able to get my appointments and referrals quickly. However, now I have to wait like 5 weeks in between chiropractic appointments. You can sign up online to be one a patient if you're new to the area. They called me the next day to schedule my initial appointment. Overall, it hasn't been a bad experience going to the VA here. read more

terrible experience. got there at 11 am only for them to tell me the Dr would not be available until 12:30. so I waited, and didn't get called until 12:45. once the nurse took my vitals told me to sit tight, literally sat in the room for another hour and a doctor never came. VA doctors or very non caring and repelling. Now instead I'll look for outside doctors and come out of pocket. the VA medical system is a joke. read more

The Charlie Norwood VA center is a disgrace. They have a few good doctors there, but most of them are not very good. Here is an example. In February I was admitted for pancreatitis. I don't recommend that. It's very painful. But my primary doctor refused to give me enough pain medication. My pain level was around a 7-8 for almost 4 days. That is very sorry pain management. The doctor told me he was giving me all the medication allowed, but he flat out lied to me. One of the other (younger) doctors said that is just how that doctor it. On the other hand, I did meet one of the physical therapy doctors who was great. Most of the nursing staff was great on the first shift. But I wanted to take a shower, and the 2nd shift nursing staff couldn't be bothered. I have peripheral neuropathy, and have had it for several years now. It causes a lot of muscle cramping and pain. They do give me medication for it, but have not done a thing to try to correct it. They did issue me a walker, which was very sweet of them. I can't get an appointment with my primary care doctor. This past week, one of the earbuds on my hearing aids came off in my ear. I called the extension for my clinic, but no one answered. I sent them a message, and they sent me an extension to call. I called it, and the lady there was nice, but she was blocked from making me an appointment. This is SOP for the Charlie Norwood. So I had to go to the ER and sit for 6 hours to get the earbud removed. I've been trying to make an appointment to have my eyes checked. No joy there either. I have a terrible psychiatrist. I have to see him every month to get my sleep meds. Zolpidem. He cut my meds in half, despite the fact that I can't sleep. He said, 'Since you are over 65, there could be complications. I've been taking Zolpidem for over 25 years with no complications. But this guy has absolutely no interest in trying to find out why I can't sleep. He has his agenda, and doesn't deviate from it. I've tried over and over to get a new psychiatrist, but the Chucky Norwood doesn't do that. And the worst thing is, there is not a thing you can do about it. I messaged my patient advocate, but the problem there is the patient advocates advocate for the Charlie Norwood instead of the patient. The really sad thing is, there are some really great doctors there. But any access is limited, because it is so hard to get an actual appointment. The way veterans are treated is a terrible disgrace. If I could give less than one star, I would. read more

This is absolutely the worst VA I have ever went to. My doctor said she wouldn't put me in for a referral I needed so I had to go to the patient advocate, had to change doctors, still, this new doc wouldn't put me in when she said she would. Horrible VA!!!! The Fayetteville VA in Fayetteville NC may have a lower rating but I get all my referrals there! I still have not gotten my outside emergency room visits all paid for by Charlie Norwood and that was 2016/2017 time frame! Stay far away from this VA!!! read more

So far I've had really great and fast experiences with doctors and pharmacy at both VA locations. I feel that the doctors do listen to me and make my trips as hassle free as possible. The same day clinic was fast and the staff was nice. Waited less than 5 mins at the pharmacy at that time. My primary care is awesome and sends medicines I need to my home. I should be hopefully getting a referral today if all things go well so I'll update if things change. read more

This facility is horrible! My son goes there for an appt today in Clinic B at the facility on Wrightsboro Rd. The woman working behind the desk is cursing throwing f bombs and the guy behind the desk has on earphones dancing and whistling. Our tax dollars at work folks!!!!! No professionalism at all! It is no wonder that the VA has such a horrible reputation, the obviously have no hiring skills nor supervisors who pay attention to what's going on! read more

Had to bring a friend for emergecy services. The actual hospital is in a different location nearby, they gave us a map. When we arrived my friend got registered and seen in a very timely manner. The hospital was very clean and orderly an no one else was in the emergency room when we arrived because they were also promptly taken care of instead of waiting for hours to be seen . The rep took the info and we were in and out in about 2 hours, which is unheard of. This place runs like a well oiled machine, the reps were helpful and patient and very respectful. I advised my friend to come to this location instead of the Atlanta location in Decatur because of the piss poor reviews even though this location is 2 hours drive. It was worth it. Whoever is in charge of running this hospital needs to be commended and give some advice as to fix the ongoing problems at the Atlanta location. We were extremely pleased with the services rendered and if at all possible, make the drive to Augusta if you can an avoid the Atlanta location at all costs. read more

There are a ton of VA's in the US and they are all very different. Here, in Augusta, there is a different kind of VA. They have their services split between 2 locations and this helps to expedite services. This location has a women's clinic and they are VERY sensitive to women's needs. The location is beautiful with multiple buildings and lots of parking. I'm sure, like most VA's, that parking can be an issue at the wrong time... but they also have valet service. They have easy kiosks for check in and everyone i came in contact with was extremely professional and curious. This was my check in visit to this VA and they did a great job of cataloging my history from other VA's and my information. The doctor didn't seem in a hurry, so I felt like I got the amount of time i needed. The nurse who checked me in was a peach! I also visited the vampires (just kidding) and they were fabulous! I also went to radiology and it was fast and efficient service. I really appreciate care like this... and I'm grateful that I have this available to me. Lots of people like to bitch about the VA, but as someone who has had service at more than half dozen across the country, I can tell you they are not all the same. This one is really good and I'm glad I live close enough to it vs the "other one" in SC. read more

Being coming here for therapy for the last three months. The people that work at a are helpful and friendly. When I'm lost, always run into something who will show me how to get their. When I check in, the staff make sure I'm doing the check in correct. Everybody is very professional and kind. The only down side is parking. Someday you can't even find a parking spot. You just have wait until someone come out. That why I always arrive 1 hrs early. read more

This is an extremely poorly run facility. They will not allow you to make a complaint. The doctors are not held accountable for mistakes they've made. The patient advocates will never return a call or a message. Their mistakes have left me with many more medical problems than I came there with. I was drugged and assaulted in this hospital and after reporting it, have not been able to get any of the medical help I need. The hospital is a scam on veterans and American taxpayers. read more

Went for my initial intake appointment, everyone was friendly and on time! If you are not wearing a badge or something that says VETERAN or ARMY or sporting a flag/bald eagle combo, people will ask if you are lost or looking for someone. :) Staff members in the OEF/OIF clinic were welcoming and helpful. As a patient & a caregiver to a patient (my dad) I can say that the care is good. I cant say enough about the Eye Clinic. They didn't have the ability to take care of my fathers issue so they quickly referred him to a specialist in the area. 9 surgeries later they have done what they can. Now when my dad travels if he needs to be seen they work him in. Sure the place could use some freshening up, and they are working on that. But as a staff member i see the pride most of the staff take in caring for our veterans. Most will assist anyone who appears to be searching for something or clinic where they should be. Contrary to popular belief this VA is not like all the other VA that are across the United States. This is probably the most organized, caring, and professional staff I have ever met at any VA Hospital. I think the reason they are so professional is because it is not a One-Stop shop for all your needs as a veteran. They have two separate buildings here. One building is for a hospitalization and the other building is for General needs and concerns IE mental health, addiction , recovery, or physical therapy .... etc. I feel like this way the staff is not being overwhelmed by the flow of veterans and it really helps move the process faster. The ER staff here was absolutely fantastic and the doctors were very professional and they we're just absolutely amazing. If you live in the Columbia area and you have to go to an emergency room it might actually be worth the hour-and-a-half drive just to go to the VA Hospital in Augusta. That is if you can last an hour and a half. read more
