I came across this place while doing research on places where I could order food for a business meeting at almost the last minute. I'm not from around here, so I had no idea if this was a good place at all....but I really needed to call in an order and they were the only pizza place that was open early (9 AM). I called them up to order several boxes of pizza - I didn't have a menu on hand, but the lady I spoke with on the phone was very helpful in coming up with combinations of toppings for each pizza. When I drove there to pick the pizzas up, the place was not what I expected...it looked sort of like a small convenient store with a pizza counter at the back. I didn't see any place to actually eat the food, so it's really just a pickup/to go place. It looks like a popular place though, as while I was there were a number of people coming in to order food. Parking space is limited, which is expected since this is just a to go place. The pizzas were ready at the agreed time and they smelled good! The lady at the counter (probably the same person I spoke with on the phone) was nice and helped me load the pizzas and bottles of water I paid for in my car. I am glad I came across this place because I received a lot of compliments over my food choice Pizzas I ordered: 1. White Pizza with spinach and onion - box went empty in no time. I loved this pizza too 2. Pancetta (Italian bacon) and basil - one of the more popular ones in the meeting too. I liked this too, but it was a bit oily though 3. Pepperoni and sausage - I didn't try this, but the others seemed to like this 4. Mushroom and artichokes - I didn't try this, but it looks like the least favorite among the four. The pizzas were more popular than the Corner Bakery sandwiches I ordered for the same people the previous day - and even more awesome is it was 70% cheaper! The only downside to the place was they don't do delivery. The place was about 11 minutes away from the office, but due to road constructions and rush hour traffic it took me an hour to drive there and back. read more

WARNING: Do NOT order a meatball sub. My wife brought one home to me because, like so many other people, we like the pizza here and assumed all their food was good. Not so. There were no meatballs per se on the sandwich. There were a few thin slices of what possibly started out as traditional meatballs. The ratio of bread to meet was more than 10 to one. I opened the bread and used a fork to scrape off the scattered meat pieces. My guess is that if the meat bits were glued together, the equivalent of two medium-sized meatballs would have rested on the thick 12-inch roll. If we lived closer to Vace, I would have taken it back. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Ordered a prosciutto spinach and mushroom pizza and was impressed. The pizza had a thin crunchy crust, that that was just thick enough to be supportive but not too thick where it was bready. My only gripe was the cheese was a bit on the low side and the spinach was a bit dried out. read more

Okay, this is the best pizza hands down in the area. I live in Rockville and will drive here to pick up pizza, and hurry home before it gets too chilly! Great New York style pizza. I recommend the meatball topping (which is nothing like the nasty ground beef sprinkled on at ledo's). We have also tried one of their frozen lasagnas which was okay, but I would really stick to the pizza. You also seem to get a lot of food for the price - the slices are pretty big. Only negative is that it usually takes 30 minutes for your order, but it is well worth the wait. Also, there is not much parking, but we have never had a problem. read more

After reading all of these reviews of Vace I was giddy to try their pizza. So I went, had a slice, and it was - ok. Nothing great, but okay. I've tried a few times since, and it's been the same thing. Okay, but not special. The Italian sub, however, is pretty good. The perfect amount of meats and cheeses, the exact right seasoning. BEST PIZZA SOUTH OF NEW JERSEY, PERIOD. No eat in, but they do sell slices- so it's all carry out. Ask for extra cheese if you want your pizza with the normal amount of cheese on it. Really well priced. Also great for other Italian specialties us Northeast people miss. PARKING SUCKS and they will tow your car even if you just run in to pick up your pie, so bring a co pilot to grab the food. read more

I gave this place a try on the advice of fellow yelpers, and am I glad I did. Yes, it's annoying that it's take out only, but it's so good and cheap. The pizza is simple, no fuss or frills, but easily one of the best bangs for your buck in Bethesda. I love their fresh sandwiches and focaccias too. They can be made to order and service is fast and polite. The store has such cool Italian novelty groceries; I have restrain myself every time from going nuts and buying everything in sight. It's a little hard to find but there are free parking spots right outside. Definitely check this place out! read more

I grew up near the original Vace and now still willing to drive back to DC or to their Bethesda location just for satisfying the craving. They dont have any seating at either location but it's best eaten straight from the foil, while still warm & crunchy. Or better yet, get a whole pie bc it's seriously that good. I haven't tried anything else on their menu, always tempted to do so but their wide selection of pizzas are enough to keep you excited to try a new topping combination. read more

Yes, it really is the best takeout pizza in the DMV. Been coming here for 15 years (first to the DC location, then Bethesda) and have gotten my medium mushroom/onion/half artichoke 2-3 times a month. About one in every 12 pies is a tad underdone so if you get one of those, make sure to give it another go. read more

The pizza is delicious, it is reasonably priced, and we pick up frozen sauces and other delicacies when we go. I've been going to Vace for years now, but I've only had the pizza. I'm putting all my chips on saying that this is the best pizza in the entire D.C. Metro region. My New York friends say this is the closest anywhere in the area has come to replicating the Big Apple's standard thin-crust pie. I have to agree. The place also doubles as a deli, pasta, cheese and other Italian items shop. If you're looking to impress someone with some authentic Italian, they have family style entrees ready to be heated and served. But I reccomend the pizza with pure confidence. read more

Note, there is not seating take out. However you can buy a slice there and seat in front of the Barnes and Noble and watch Bethesda. It is one of the best pizza doughs in the area. Either 2 Amys or Pizza Mia don't have a good pizza dough like Vace. You can order 30 minutes ahead, buy slices or buy the pizza dough and produce with your own toppings. read more

For cheap, quick eats, Vace can't be beat. While their pizza doesn't match the wood-fired yumminess of 2 Amy's, there's nothing close to it in MoCo (pending review of Z-pizza). Just good flavor and ingredients all around. The sandwiches are great if you do it right: make sure they make yours from scratch. Otherwise you get the pre-made one that's been sitting there for hours (days?) and the bread is a liiiiitle hard. But get the fresh soft bread, some fresh mozzarella and premo sliced deli-meat? Muah! Finally, the frozen pastas are always great to have on hand for a quick dinner at home. Haven't tried the sauces, but have heard good things. read more

I LOVE their paste and gravy ... not as good as my moms but still Great. This deli made me feel like I was in little Italy back home. They were very helpful and quickly recognized that I was a New Yorker. The pizza was ok for New York standards but but one of the best that I have have in the DC area. Nothing like Vace's thin crust pizza cooked directly on the brick. The sauce is wonderfully flavored with just the right amount of oregano and the cheese (under the sauce) is nice. I can't imagine why anyone would consider a chain pizza place - when the Vace is here. And it's very reasonably priced. The pepperoni is treat - especially when cooked well done. I also enjoy the Italian sub w/ everything - but no lettuce. You can pick-up some beer, wine and just about anything you would expect from a traditonal Italian maket. read more

Great store selection: foods, olive oils, drinks. Lots of Italian stuff that i loved having in Italy that I can't find anywhere else here. Amazing, always fresh deli selection. The imported Prosciutto is a standout. And whenever I shop there, I gotta get a slice of pizza or a sub that is ready in minutes and very well priced. read more

Pizza is still good, but don't expect sliced deli less than an hour before closing. Evidently those two slicers take a very long time to clean, and we DEFINITELY can't risk an employee having to stay even a minute past closing time; no sale of high-margin Italian specialty meats could possibly be worth that! read more

while this location doesn't quite match up with the one in cleveland park (a bit less selection all around), and pales in comparison to the golden throne of a. litteri's, it is pretty much a godsend for bethesda, and offers up plenty in the category of starchy excess. in the usual way, unfortunately, revelations of this nature are not so easy to come by, so i spent almost a half-year in bethesda before actually knowing where exactly vace is: hidden in a dark half-alley-street nebula thing a ways from the metro where no one would ever think to turn down in the day time, nor actually see in the evening, and is accessed only by a right turn off of wisconsin, but is only visible (slightly) while driving in the opposite direction. yeah. it's a good thing they have a reputation with back-up or they might have been devoured by a minotaur at this point. once inside though, you'll realize the place has got the goods, and without any distracting frills. a pizza joint/deli in one, you'll see some olive oils, vinegars, sauces, and various other canned products from italy stacking the white shelves and walls. look into the frozen/refrigerated compartments and you'll find frozen stuffed pastas like ravioli and tortellini, a variety of homemade sauces, sticks of italian pepperoni, freshly grated/sliced cheeses, and even some fresh pasta ready for the pot. if you can't find anything in these compartments, step up to the deli counter and order a sandwich, a pizza, a slice, or various meats/cheeses by the pound. just be prepared to wait before being noticed. even if there's no one else in the place. they've also got this weird number-order-calling system, whereby they identify your order by number between themselves, but never tell you what it is. this could probably use a little fixing, and i've definitely started to reach longingly for something that i thought was mine, only to find out the imaginary number did not match, and so my victimized hungry hurting eyes were left to watch as a tantalizing box o' pizza made it's way out the door and not into my belly. tragic. luckily, just to the left of the counter they've got a pleasant, but small italian wine selection to browse over while you wait. take your time looking it over, cause your order is almost never up on time, especially when you call it in during the evenings, and there's definitely not any chairs to ease your pain. soon, however, all will be forgiven, because you'll be sitting down at home with a goblet of red wine and delicious pasta (if at times just a bit doughy), or tearing away at one of their pretty glorious pizzas: with the best pizza sauce in town,bar none, and near the top of any pizza anywhere, i recommend just the large standard plain pizza (9 bucks!), a dotting of parmesan cheese, and a healthy appetite, and damn if that won't make you feel better some lazy weeknight. and if someone slaps your ass, they'll still feel some weight in your wallet, cause things are very very reasonable here. in fact, it's rather addictive, so listen to what any ass-slappers have to say, cause that weight could soon be courtesy of your big butt itself... you've been warned. ah, vace, i do wish you were open past 9 o'clock so that my drunken cravings could be more satisfyingly vanquished, but i'm glad it's just five minutes to your lovely pizza-pies when you are awake. read more
