Came here for a luncheon meeting, with a group of six. . Our usual room was not available and we were seated in the main dining room and reminded to "keep the volume down, there are other people here". Like we didn't know that? Three of us ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, it was over cooked They forgot the mayo on mine. My unsweetened iced tea was a little weak, but that is a common problem with restaurants. Another jewel! Went in June to visit Plattsburgh, NY and find some local beer to bring back home. Discovered this place on the grounds of the old Air Force base. What a find! We were going around a round-about in Plattsburgh NY when we noticed a sign to VBC--that is when our adventure began. VBC is situated in a historic 1812 (as in War of 1812) barracks. My family loved this place! We had our little dog with us so we requested to sit outside. They are dog friendly! It was a bit chilly at night as we were there in late October. Not hard to find...GPS brought me right to the beautiful front door. 10 minutes from the mall. Enjoyed a 5 sample beer flight. The brewmaster put the beer in order for me to sample with my food. It was amazing! Really enjoyed the Double IPA and my dessert was a delicious Double Wood Smoked Porter. My meal was excellent as well. My friend and I split the artichoke dip which was served with flatbread (yummy). I ordered the special of the night which was a Double Wood Smoked Porter soaked bacon wrapped, Gorgonzola and caramelized onion stuffed meatloaf burger topped with a chocolate chipotle aioli. Well-worth every savory bite. The thing was huge. And I ate ALL of it. I only paid 25 bucks for a fantastic meal, great beer, comfy but strong decor and an evening among new and old friends. I can't believe it took 30 min to just order a beer! Then I had to ask if I could order food, after waiting an additional 20 min or so....no, they were not overly busy and seemed to have plenty if staff, including the owner! who was rude to me when I asked if I could place a food order w her. She simply sat to the side watching her new employees struggle. I do not blame the servers, as I've been a member of restaurant family my whole life, I know a good establishment is prevalent when the owners take a part in their business, this woman seemed to have no interest and just wanted to sit at the bar. All the good came out at once bc nobody knew how to properly enter an app. Overall I don't think being upset w the servers is the way to go, I just couldn't get over the owner's disposition and how unprofessional she was! Overall, it took an hour and a half to get a salad and taco with no apologies on the poor service. This woman should have been helping her staff! What a poor representation read more

Impressed with what they did with this old building! Came here for a flight and fries with a friend after the Plattsburgh christmas bird count. The wait staff was extremely personable and pleasant. We had great conversation and even better beers. The flights are sold by the individual taster, which was a little unusual but I liked I could get as many as I wanted. The sweet potato fries were seasoned perfectly and the atmosphere was comfortable. My only complaint was it was difficult to find the entrance, but the woman behind the bar mentioned they were planning on improving that soon. Brews are good, but for beers we prefer Oval Brewing (but there's no/limited food there) or the tap options at Our House (best food + beer combo IMO). We were visiting family in Plattsburgh as part of our Adirondack vacation. I asked them to take us to all the best breweries in town. This was our third stop. First thing you notice is how cool the location and facility are. It's an old army barracks turned into a restaurant/ brewery/ party house (and soon a B&B). It was pretty busy when we walked in and we were nervous that they could not accommodate us (with two kids), However we were greeted by one of the co-owners who found us a high chair and a special table. There is no kid's menu. They made a special order quesadilla for the kids. They only had glass cups, but happily supplied us with a straw for our son. As for the adults we all agreed the food was excellent! And the beer was fun. The names are right out of local and US history. I had the porter which had a full bodied smokey flavor. My husband had the "Benedict Arnold IPA" and enjoyed it. Service was warm and friendly. Worth a return visit. read more

We really enjoyed Valcour. Setting is gorgeous in an 1837 military barracks. Lovely porch. I'm a home brewer so we tend to look for craft breweries when we travel. They have a small selection of excellent beers. We tried the smoked porter which was well balanced and not too malty. The DIPA and pale ale where their best offering. I had the DIPA. It was not quite as aromatic as anticipated but still really good. Pale ale was perfectly bittered. The kitchen fare was very good, we recommend the panini and the cheese burger with blue cheese instead of cheddar. read more
