I had a new set of tires I intended to put on the bike after I returned from an upcoming trip but after talking with Valdi about the condition of my front tire, I had him install and balance the new set of tires. He's simply THE guy to go to for BMW motorcycles when the dealer can't help you out. I brought my 2007 BMW f800st there when it wouldn't start. I thought it was the key ring sensor failing but let me borrow another key ring to plug into my bike to troubleshoot. When that didn't solve it, he traced all the wires in the harness to check for a short or break. And then finally, he plugged in another ecu computer from another f800 and it fired up. Other shops recommended that I swap out the whole system ignition system which would've almost cost what the bike is worth but he really worked to help me localize the problem and find a much more reasonably costing solution. read more

Forget the dealer, or anyone else who claims to be an independent BMW motorcycle specialist. Valdi's is the only game in town in all of Southern California. I brought in my 98 R1100GS/78K, for a quick tire and foot-peg replacement. For a busy motorcycle repair shop, they keep it meticulously clean. More so than the BMW dealership in my area. I also noticed some other works in progress that varied in age, from the old airheads to the newest police bikes- a good indicator of the depth of their experience and knowledge. Valdi and Chris both welcomed me with a friendly smile and a firm handshake, something that is also uncommon. They got to work on my machine immediately, and right away I could tell that these guys are masters of their craft. They work with speed, efficiency, confidence, and a collaborative shorthand that reminded me of F1 pit crews- they are really that good. While prudence usually demands that you watch closely, any new mechanic when meeting for the first time, their work ethic and engineer-like focus made me so comfortable, I was able to relax and tend to other business. They were also quick to point out some of the mechanicals that had suffered some neglect, including a brake light issue that I did not know I had. Despite the fact that I only booked the shop for an hour, they repaired everything, and focused on getting my machine mechanically sound and safe. And even with all that, the most incredible part of my experience happened when I hopped on and rode off- because she felt like a new machine. The acceleration, handling characteristics and clutch operation had improved so much, It took me a few minutes to get used to the new performance envelope. And now I'm acting like that guy who just got a new bike- looking for any excuse to ride. Valdi's Motozone could easily inspire customer loyalty just on their superior workmanship, but they treated me like an old customer, took me out of mechanical danger, and even gave me a break on my final invoice. Recommended to Valdi's Motozone, and echo the 5 star service experience. 2006 R1200RT, 4 yo gas glazed on the plugs and carbon paths caused the bike to hesitate at 4000 RPM. Not sure if it was fuel or electrical. Troubleshot to bad original Bosch plugs. Got brake fluid changed, new metal FI connectors, synched throttle bodies, now it runs perfectly!! I first went in to Valdi's about 2 weeks ago. My bike had started making a slight clicking noise most noticeable when coming to a stop. Valdi stayed open 5 minutes after his closing time so I could drop it off after work. He took one look at the issue and offered to fix it right then. He determined that my chain was too tight and slackened it up slightly. I tested it out in the parking lot and sure enough that fixed the problem. Valdi is very helpful, honest, and knowledgeable. I have had bikes for 30 years, and owned my current 04 R1150R for 4+ years. I found Valdi and his son after a local shop overcharged and underperformed. Since then I have had all the regular and scheduled work done at Valdi's and he has always been fair, prompt and professional. A couple of month's ago I got a flat rear tire, and both front and rear were due for a change so I decided to use a local shop since Valdi's is about an hour from my house. What could a professional shop get wrong by mounting tires, right? Next time I pulled in to Valdi's shop for unrelated work, the first thing Valdi said was "your rear tire is the wrong size." The local shop out a too large rear tire on (which is not the end of the world). They also did not replace the tire stems. Or balance either tire. I should have checked, I know, but I did not. I tend to think a shop is going to do what they should, especially on something like balancing tires. Or replacing a tire stem Valdi took both tires off, replaced the stems and balanced them and only charged me for the stems and balance weights. Lesson Learned -- I'll get my bike to Valdi even for minor stuff. Finding a professional shop that operates with integrity is rare. The fact that he and his son are both nice guys and excellent mechanics make his shop a no-brainer for an BMW in Southern CA. read more

Good mechanics are far and few between. This is especially true with motorcycle mechanics. You're either taking your chances with some glorified back yard mechanic, or you're getting completely ripped off at a dealer. Valdi's Motozone is an exception to that. Valdi and his son Dave are by far the most skilled BMW mechanics I've met, not to mention they are true enthusiasts that love what they do. I've referred friends in the office because I work up the street, they have went on to refer their friends. Just recently I met another BMW rider at my company and went to tell him about Valdi's, he said "oh yeah, that's the place everyone is talking about isn't it?" That's how good they are.
