I first tried Vale in Tallahassee before the Gainesville location opened and I loved it. When I heard a Vale would be opening in Gainesville I was stoked. I used to eat chipotle about 3 times a week, and when Vale opened right next door, I haven't had Chipotle since. I normally get a regular bowl (~$8 if you check in on Facebook) which comes with 2 bases, 2 veggies, and 2 meats. Usually I get chipotle mac, sweet potatoes and mushrooms as a staple in my bowl, and switch up the second veggie option. Whats great about Vale is they switch up their options constantly so I try different meats regularly. My favorite option on the menu is the mushrooms. Aside from tasting great, and having a variety of foods to choose from, Vale is a very healthy and fast option. The customer service is also very good, a staff member always greets me when I walk in and asks if I have any questions about the menu options. I think it is one of the healthier food options in Gainesville and one of the better tasting ones as well. I have tried grill fresh and in my opinion Vale is much better. read more

I was unexpectly impressed by Vale. I have had Grill fresh and I have had sub par experience but at Vale I was quite impressed. Inside the restaurant, there are live herbs and really amazing decorations. I like the variety of foods after the main entree. I loved the quinoa and the chipotle mac and cheese. I have written a review about Vale in the past (1 year ago I believe) and I was told through a comment from what I believe was the manager that they were fixing the lights to make sure the food they are serving is warm. I was sampling the different meat choices they had and the teriyaki chicken was COLD, not room temperature, it was actually cold. I really like the concept of Vale and love that they have so much variety of healthy foods to choose from, but the temperature of the food is not up to par. I would definitely come here more because the food is actually good, but it is not served is warm. I really hope they change this. :( read more

Incredibly disappointing first experience. I went with my girlfriend this afternoon (who has been before and loved the Acai Bowl) and we ordered a Super Poke Bowl (for myself) and an Acai Bowl (for my girlfriend). We were told off the bat that they had run out of their strawberry granola and had store bought granola instead - no big deal. It was super slow (maybe 6 other people eating) so we sat down and waited for our food. After about 15 minutes of waiting, the guy who took our order came out and said that half of the Tuna was still DEFROSTING and would be ready in 8-10 minutes, but the rest of my Poke Bowl was ready. He suggested I take what was ready now and they would bring out the rest after it DEFROSTED (why anyone would tell a customer their fish is defrosting is beyond me). I agreed and 10 minutes later, I get the worst Poke Bowl I've ever had. Half of the avocados are brown, the rice is hard/crunchy/uncooked by a long way, there were no seasame seeds/scallions (like advertised), and half of the half serving of tuna is grey/inedible. I ate about half of it before losing my appetite altogether. About 10 minutes after that (~40 minutes after ordering), the same staff member brings out my defrosted tuna in a side/sauce container. I told him about my displeasure and how every ingredient was either unsightly, missing, or completely inedible. I got a quick "sorry" before he turned around and walked away. Again, $12 for mostly grey, recently frozen tuna, uncooked rice, brown avocados, and missing toppings and no attempt to make it right by the staff... Long story short, terrible first impression in every way possible and I can't say I'll ever plan on going back, which is unfortunate because I like the concept and would've considered meal prep services through Vale, had my experience been the polar opposite. There are way too many options nearby (including next door) that are way more consistent and appetizing to waste your time/money here. read more

I really love the Vale in Tallahassee. Clean restaurant, friendly team, and well prepared food. The Gainsville location is anything but those things. They are currently out of Açai and dragon bowls. Not so bad since I usually do a regular bowl of my choice. I go through the line today and the girl behind the counter was so confused she had to ask for help about what food was in front of her. I pointed to a protein to ask what it was since their dry erase signs were whipped off and she didn't know. She asks the guy behind the counter and he says "chicken". I ask her what kind. She doesn't know. Asks him, and he says "teriyaki". Weak performance on both of their parts. I go through to check out and she asks if I want a sauce. I ask for chipotle ranch and she goes to get it. She comes back and they are out. I figured since they just opened and it was a weekend they would have one of their staple sauces handy but I was wrong. I ask for a water cup and she says "there should be some over there." Over where?! I've never been to this location so I guess I'll search around and find them. I walk past the Açai bowl bar and there is a girl prepping some salads. I see the water is next to her stand. I walk up and the water machine is out of order along with the ice. It says to try some of their fresh detox water instead. I would have been happy to except THEY WERE ALL EMPTY! I walk over to the girl preparing behind the bar and ask how I may get some water. She says the only way is for her to fill it up from the tap of their dish sink... at this point I've given up. I hand her my cup, she gets salad dressing on it and hands it back. I sit outside because all the tables inside have food on them. Mind you, they have just opened about an hour prior to my visit. My brother and I were the only visitors during my time there. When we both go to dig into our bowls I almost broke my tooth. The "chicken teriyaki" was burned and so hard I couldn't even chew it. My brother and I spent the rest of our time scooping through our bowls to avoid it, while having to spit most of it out into the bushes next to our table. I am a loyal Vale customer and really enjoy the food. This was my brothers first time here and he says he will never come back. I too will never visit the Gainesville location again. The plaza you're in is already an uphill battle to convince people to travel to you from how far it is from campus, now you have poor service, bad food, and just about everything you offer is broken or sold out. First time here today. Menu looked great and the food I ended up with was pretty good. My issue with Vale was that they were out of more than half of the choices I wanted. No more cauliflower. No more roasted mushrooms. No more turkey spinach feta meatballs. No more goat cheese. So while it wasn't what I really wanted, and I had to pay extra to get a protein choice I actually liked, it was pretty good all in all. Service was slower than I thought it would be. Guess I expected it to be about like Moe's or Chipotle in terms of order speed. The guy who served up my food was wearing gloves, but continued to wear them as he swiped my credit card, unboxed some to-go bags, and handled the pens. Then he went right back to handling food with the same gloves on. I'll go back to try again, but maybe will go early or late, not at dinner time when they seem to run out of selections. I've been here about a dozen times now and plan to come back many more. I love the healthy options that Vale offers. The Avocado toast with spicy feta is a must!! And it's served in top of a small mixed greens salad with berries. The regular bowl is a big portion and I often have leftovers. My favorite things are the balsamic mushrooms, chipotle Mac and cheese, flank steak, and spinach & feta turkey meatballs. Also, try the whole grain chocolate chip cookie. Omg. So good. Although I gave it three stars I will definitely be back especially when I need something healthy to eat quickly. The options were great and fit into my diet well, but the price vs. portion size seemed way off. I got a small bowl and was served about 1 oz. of chicken for my protein. I measure my protein every day so have a pretty good guess at portion size at this point. This could have been a one off because the girl serving didn't seem too confident. Everything was great. Love love love Vale!! I've been looking for healthier options in Gainesville and I've finally found it. Although I love Chipotle, Vale offers way better options and the menu changes everyday so its always exciting to see what will be available. Not only that but they also have amazing acai bowls and avocado toast. If you aren't such a health-nut like me, they also have options for your bowl such as chipotle mac and cheese and different types of meat that are healthy but still have amazing flavor. The first time I ate at Vale, I was in a hurry on my way to Tampa and needed a quick dinner. They got me in and out very quickly and it was a much better road trip meal than any fast-food or gas station options. I got the regular bowl with brown rice, sweet potatoes, broccoli, ancho chicken and the sriracha chicken meatballs and loved every bite. Also had some great leftovers! The food is great, the price is great and the environment is so welcoming. The acai bowls are great, you pick 3 ingredients (I had peanut butter, shaved coconut, and banana), and the hot food is great too- you get a base (sweet potato, mac n cheese, rice, or quinoa), a vegetable (broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprout slaw, asparagus), and a protein (try the sriracha chicken meatballs!). Absolutely fantastic! This place has it all: flavor, aesthetic, atmosphere, and reasonable prices for above average quality food. We had the Spicy Ahi Tuna Bowl and the Açaí Berry Bowl with Maple Pecan Granola, Banana, Kiwi, and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter. The Spicy Ahi Tuna Bowl was extremely flavorful and well portioned for the price. After that we had to try the Açaí Berry Bowl because we saw another customer get it and it looked incredible, it was. The Açaí Berry was similar to frozen yogurt as the base, then we added the Maple Pecan Granola (so good), as the three toppings we got Banana, Kiwi, and Dark Chocolate Peanut butter. The fruit is fresh and hand cut by the attendant (expertly), I was impressed at the extent to which it was diced. The presentation of the food was on point, the employees were very friendly and attentive, there was a nice relaxed atmosphere with a clean and well laid out interior. I got a REALLY REALLY bad case of food poisoning from their flank steak. I usually don't write Yelp reviews, especially negative Yelp reviews, but this was the worst food poisoning I've ever had and their only remedy was to offer me a comped meal. The last thing I want while I'm sick with your food is a free meal from the place that got me sick. I've seen past reviews about their failure to maintain food temperature and it's clearly something that they need to vastly improve. When I called the manager to notify them of my illness it seemed that they are very used to calls for food poisoning. read more
