I took my pontoon here to get my mercury outboard tuned up and get a cable adjustment. They did the adjustment but still had trouble starting the engine and when I did it ran very rough. The cable needed adjustment because we had little to no reverse power. Well the adjustment lasted a day on the water and we ultimately lost reverse entirely and they warned that that could happen and I was ok with that. I then called back to schedule it to have the lower end worked on and was told they knew what was wrong with it and had to order parts and it would take 2 weeks. I reluctantly said ok because everywhere else was telling me 4-6 weeks and it was mid to late summer already. Well I called two weeks later and talked to Dave asking if he received the parts to repair my motor. He asked me who I was and what it was that he was ordering for me. I was supposed to order parts he said. It turns out he never ordered parts or had me on the repair schedule. I immediately called Best Marine who got me in and fixed up in 4 weeks and the motor is running better than it ever had. Turns out it was only running on 3 cylinders and had some other adjustment issues that should have been caught at Valentine's with the tune up as they replaced 4 spark plugs and presumably had the engine running. Bottom Line - If I could give this shop zero stars I would. One star skews their rating way higher that it should be. read more

AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COST They worked on my motor from 28 JUN 22 to 12 JUL 22 and never fixed the problem. The manufacturer tried to help them, but they chose not to perform the work in accordance with the manufacture standard practices or recommendations. I took it to another Boat shop, also Mercury certified, and they found the problem within 2 hours and have now fixed it. The work performed by Valentine's was so shoddy that the new boat shop spent roughly $750, just getting the motor back to where they could start to fix the original problem. if you need work done on your boat motor, run don't walk away from Valentines. It will save you grief, money and time in the long run. read more

Bought a 24 foot Bayliner with a 350 cu in/outboard motor. Every time I put it on the water, it would start and idle just fine then when I would throttle up it would bog and die. I took it to Valentines half a dozen times and each time they said it was fixed and ready to go. Each time I took it out, it would bog and die. Twice requiring help back to dock. This went on most of the summer. A 24 foot boat is quite a bit of work to launch and trailer. I spent the entire summer screwing around with this problem and NEVER spent a single day out on the water. By the time they fixed it, by simply replacing the carburetor, I wasn't all that intersted anymore and sold the boat. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR BOAT HERE!! OWNER GOT IN MY FACE AND YELLED AT ME! I TOOK VIDEO OF HIM YELLING AT ME BUT CAN ONLY POST SCREENSHOTS NOT THE WHOLE VIDEO! Brought my boat here despite the bad reviews. My boat was bogging down and shutting off after 3,000 rpm. Brought It to them and described what was happening. They performed a "tune up" and reassured me that the top end would be fixed since he reattached a loose spark plug wire which was causing the issue. I asked multiple times that it's just a spark plug wire that caused the boat to shut off and he told me yes many times and I'll be good. Took it out onto the lake the next day only to get stranded with a boat full of people because it still bogged down after 3,000 rpm. The issue was not fixed at all. When I brought the boat back to the shop, the owner was very defensive and started yelling at me that it's my fault I didn't explain the issue well enough. He repeatedly yelled at me and offered zero solutions. I took my boat and left, I do not trust them to work on anything I ride in. This was a terrible experience and a waste of 2 full days. This is my experience last summer, that I posted on other review sites, I'm still very bitter, and to update, turns out, they never checked the winterization plugs, which were missing when I took the boat out. Luckily they were filled with debris, so my boat did not sink. My father recently passed, some the greatest memories I have of him are centered around his boat. which I am happy to have it to help retain some of those memories. The down side is that the boat had not been in the water for over 7 years and I'm very much new to owning a boat. A little over a month ago, I took the boat into Valentines and explained to them how long it had been sitting and to do what was needed I could not anticipate what all could be wrong with it and asked that they take a look. They called me within a reasonable amount of time, told me the cost (about what I was expecting) and we proceeded. They told me it was good to go. I asked if they had changed the oil. The phone became disconnected. I was just down the street and stopped in, as they were finishing the oil.. I don't remember all of the problems that they said that they addressed, I know that the carburetor had to be sent out for boiling, the battery replaced and that the gauges were not working. Before getting in the water, I realized I was missing the drain plug. I can't say for sure whether or not there was one there before, but no matter, I went into Valentines and purchased a new one. Very excited, we got down to the lake dropped the boat in the water and were set to go. Unfortunately, the boat was not set to go for more than 20 ft or so, then stranding us in the lake with non-working gauges and what I assumed to be a problem with the fuel system. I took the boat back in and explained the situation. They said that they would take a look. I understand, there are quite a few things that could be wrong with a boat of this age (1985) that had been sitting for so long. A little over a week later, I got the call that the boat was ready to go. Great! I called another boat shop (review under that shop) looking for basic parts for my older boat and was told that the cables, control, out drive.... All obsolete, parts were not available and essentially I should take my boat to the scrap yard for the aluminum. So on a hunch I stopped by Valentine's on my way home from work and they wee awesome, told me they keep the cables in stock, parts are no issue and they were even very kind to give advice to a new boat owner working on his own 47 year old boat. If I could give zero stars, I would do so. This business lacks both competence and professionalism. Due to a lack of time, my husband decided to bring his Honda boat engine in to this shop. He had changed the oil and fixed this engine numerous times over the past five years on his own. However, having moved across country and busy with a first responder job, my husband decided to bring it in to this shop. From there, it was a tragedy of errors. First of all, the business never got back to my husband with a quote for the price for their services. They just went ahead, completed services without any spoken or written approval, and charged him $160 for what they claimed was one hour of work. When my husband returned home with the engine, the engine would not start! He brought the engine back and asked Dave, the owner, if he had started the engine before returning the engine; after hemming and hawing, Dave claimed he did and that it worked on the second pull. He lied. So, my husband asked him to try to start the engine again. Without placing the engine in any type of water, Dave pulled the cord multiple times. The engine did catch once for about two seconds, before it died out again. Dave then informed my husband that in order to fix an engine that he already had not fixed, he was going to need an additional $300. Never once did he offer to refund the money for a job not well done, nor did he offer any sort of additional assistance. Instead he continued to try to con my husband into giving him more money. When my husband pointed out that Dave had not fixed the engine in the first place, and that perhaps he should offer to fix it before charging more money, this person, Dave, began to scream obscenities and abuses at my husband and essentially took his engine and threw it out by my husband's car. We will be following up on this by filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well as ensuring that people in the Denver metro area hear the story and know to choose much more wisely than we did. read more

I've generally had a good experience. They are the only place that will and can work on the mercury motor I have and winterize it. Other places said it was too old. They are always nice and are always busy. They took the time to explain some things on the boat as it is very old and we inherited it. read more

I visited Valentines Marine after being frustrated at other Denver area marine stores plus places like Cabelas/Bass Pro and - gasp - even Walmart. I was looking for parts for my boat that are mostly generic and none of the other places had the parts in stock. Not only did Valentines Marine have the generic parts in stock they also had parts specific to my boat - which is 25 years+ old. The biggest help there was that the person at the counter took time to help me find the right parts and the best buys - unsurpassed customer service and support. While the big name stores had lots of store help they were not knowledgeable about any particular item or parts - nice people but that won't help get the job done. I would HIGHLY recommend Valentines Marine for your boat shopping needs. John H read more

Will never do business here again. Every time I bring my boat in for service it leaves worse than when I brought it and suddenly has new problems. Several friends and family had similar experiences. Work quality is very poor or intentionally bad. Either way they have lost my business. It's never been the same since senior left. read more

Bought a used boat from a gentleman who was the original owner/buyer from Valentine's. Extremely low hours on boat and motor. Not even a scratch on the hull of the boat. Since the boat had been sitting for years without running I took it back to Valentine's for a flush of old gas, new impellers and new fuel filter. (This included a fuel filter on a kicker motor for a small portion of the $1298.00 bill ) Got it back after a $1200+ bill. They verified the motor had 32 original hours on it and said it was in amazing condition. Took it out to the reservoir for the first run and it was horrible. Kept missing and would not go over 2000 rpm. Opened the lid and found a spark plug cap not connected and the temperature sender wires disconnected. I would think that a certified Mercury mechanic would not put in an impeller, change the fuel pump kit, replace the impeller and send it home with a clean bill of health and yet accidentally leave a spark plug cap loose and a temperature sender wire completely disconnected. I called and spoke with them and nothing but excuses from the service manager who was "wondering who had done the work".Not going back. Don't trust the company or its technicians. read more

I have added my review before and on other sites. Valentine Marine ruined the motor in my boat requiring a complete rebuild. Asked them to change a water pump and check out a tick in the engine (it may have just been an exhaust leak). They tore the whole upper end of the motor apart. They kept stalling and putting me off saying they couldn't get a head gasket for the motor (this was a GM 454... really?). Anyway after over two months of this, I finally went down and demanded they give my boat back. They had left the heads off and barely covered the engine (leaving the boat outside) causing the cylinders to rust. They told me that the mechanic that took it apart left and never came back. I would be wary of taking any boat to this place. Anyway, took my boat to Best Marine, great place, fixed all of the issues in short order. Finding a reliable boat shop (Best) is the only good thing that came out of this. read more
