We've been coming to Valenza for years and find it to be consistently superb...Friday night was no exception. The dining room is elegant while casual with the bar area usually busy but never loud. We started with fritto misto which was really good then split the pappardelle, which is on my top ten all time favorite dishes I've had in ATL, and the fish special which came with risotto, so good! AMBIANCE Lively. A bit loud (it was a weekend night) but I liked it. Decor is nice. Bar right when you walk in. Utilized all the space to seat as many as possible but I did not feel squished or suffocated. FOOD Polpo: would not order this again. The octopus was tender but taste wasn't that great and the portion of octopus was small. The dish comes with a bunch of other stuff in it and doesn't really complement the octopus. When I asked our server what the other stuff was, she looked confused and then described it as beans. It definitely was NOT just beans... Cavoletti without the pancetta: first off, pancetta is misspelled on the menu. This bothers me (excuse my English major petpeeves surfacing), maybe because it's an easy mistake to fix as the menus are paper. Anyway, this was pretty good. I don't eat pork so I had it without and it still tasted great. Though I may be biased-- I love brussel sprouts. Butternut squash ravioli: so. Delicious. Please order this. Sweet savory yumminess. Spaghettini: very normal. I didn't eat the meatball due to the pork but the sauce was a bit too watery/thinned out for my taste. The noodle consistency was good though. Linguine Nero: Shrimp was good. The flavor was okay but the dish lacked a lot of depth and could have used a little something more. It was okay though. Capasante scallops with risotto: really good. A bit rich but not overpowering. I liked the earthy flavor of the mushrooms and the squash risotto together. Order this too. Food was overall okay. The two standouts were the two dishes I ordered the first time I came: scallops over risotto and the butternut squash ravioli. I'd probably stick to these two dishes if I return. And maybe add the brussel sprouts cuz I'm a piggie. SERVICE I visited this establishment during the second weekend of April. This was my second visit to this restaurant and my first visit didn't go that well. Food was great the first time but service was really slow so I came back wanting to give the service a chance to redeem itself. When I went there yesterday, our service was terrible. We sat for a good 15-20 minutes before being greeted by our server. I must add that we went on a weekend night and it was fairly busy, but it shouldn't take 15+ minutes just to greet a table. Server was uninformed when I asked what certain ingredients were in a couple different dishes. She did not make an attempt to go and find out what these ingredients were and instead gave us inaccurate information. She was also absent the entire evening. The entire time it felt like we were waiting on her to appear again so that we could order something or ask for something. At one point, food was brought to our table but one of the people had no plate or utensils to eat with for a good ten minutes. Keep in mind, we were not a large party-- table of 3 people. read more

After experiencing this place for Yelp Eats, we ventured back to it last night for dinner. This restaurant is high on my list for great food, service and beverages. The Tomato salad they currently have with them in season is light and flavorful. Main course was the Butter Nut Squash Raviolis! These are the most amazing ones I have ever experienced, and last night they were that much better then the first time. The service is small, but perfect for my appetite. They have a desert with doughnuts, I'm not a big fan of it, but the blueberry tart is very good. Drinks, Chocolate Martini, smooth and a 10, Apple Martini, Crisp and smooth. Exquisite. We didn't really know what to expect walking in with two toddlers. We were just looking for good Italian food and boy, did this exceed our expectations! The service was attentive, warm and high-level. But the food.... my gosh. The food was incredible. The flavor profiles were unlike anything I've ever experienced and executed perfectly. The pasta was so moist and fresh that it felt like it melted in your mouth. Even the table bread was so damn good we asked for refills twice! This took us back to Little Italy in New York York and honestly, don't tell my friends up north, it might have even surpassed it. (Gasp!) I'd go here again in a heartbeat but next time, I'd leave the kids at home. This is a nice restaurant for a date! It is a smaller area but romantic setting. I had the capellina and thought it was delicious. Being a vegetarian dish, it's lighter than some of the other options but tasted super fresh and was still filling (had to take part of it to-go). They were out of the ravioli i the night I went or else probably would have tried that. Also, not a fan of the valet requirement in their lot as I could literally walk the 10 ft to my car. We live close to Valenza and were excited to check it out, as Brookhaven doesn't have many unique restaurant options. The direct area is nice, with a modern feel to it. Complimentary valet is required (the valet is shared with Valenza's sister restaurant Haven). The restaurant itself is small and romantic with a pretty lively bar scene. The clientele was mostly older couples and groups. I started out with an Italian wine by the glass. My wife had a soda, which actually had free refills (which is rare for an upscale place). They started us out with their bread and olive oil. We had their special appetizer of the night, which was fantastic. It was polenta with asparagus, a poached egg, and cheese fondue. I could have eaten a few of these as my entree. For entrees, we had the butternut squash ravioli and the gnocchi. The waiter gave me an odd look when I ordered the ravioli as my entree. I figured out why when the dish came- the portion was tiny. I would recommend that they move this ravioli to the appetizer section of the menu, instead of the entree section. The flavor was very good but definitely not very filling. The gnocchi was a large portion, but it was much too dry to be eaten as an entree. We completed the meal with coffee and a fairly standard chocolate cake dessert. We enjoyed ourselves but kept comparing it to Sugo, a similar restaurant where we had a much better dining experience. read more

I was excited to try Valenza last Friday since everyone on Yelp had plenty of good things to say about it. Arrived around 5:15pm for an early dinner with some business contacts. There were plenty of open parking spots, but nonetheless I waited at the valet for a few seconds until I grabbed one of the empty parking spots. At this time the valet popped out from his hiding spot and promptly took my keys and gave me a ticket. Glad it's complimentary! When I walked into the restaurant there was no hostess to be found. I stood at the stand for a few seconds until I took a stroll around the restaurant looking for my party of 5. The place was rather empty and I didn't hear any chatter, so I assumed no one in my party had arrived yet. I kept waiting inside for a few more minutes until the hostess returned. I explained I was meeting a group and she told me there were no reservations until 6:30pm. I knew my contacts would not have canceled the dinner without a call, so I stood outside for another 10 or so minutes waiting. Finally the hostess came back out and told me there was a table of people inside; could that be my group? Indeed, it was. I was slightly annoyed, but glad I was able to finally eat dinner! I joined my group at a circular table tucked into a corner I had missed on my walk-about. My table started off with some drinks and the grilled calamari (2 orders for a table of 5, and I didn't eat any!). They raved about how great it was! The app came served over some breaded chickpea cake which was delicious! The two plates were gone in a matter of minutes; that's what I get for going out to eat with 4 guys! Three of us had a salad that was on special for the evening; I believe it was fig and mozzarella salad over baby springs, all over three thin slices of prosciutto. The cheese was delicious and fresh, but (as mozzarella is) very thick once put in your mouth, so the other components had to be eaten separately. But overall a great summer dish. I had the butternut squash ravioli that has been raved about here. I was afraid I would be overpaying for my favorite dish at Figo, but this definitely had a gourmet twist. I loved the crunch of the nuts in the dish. Very refined, unlike some other italian restaurants. Even though the portion was small I couldn't finish it. Service was OK throughout the meal. It felt like it took a long time for food to come out; although at least that way I know it's being made fresh. The server wasn't really present to let us know how the meal was going back in the kitchen or to apologize for the delay, but would promptly bring us more alcohol! Also water glasses were filled quickly and plates were cleared as they had separate staff for that. 3 stars: Valenza is definitely now on my list of good places in Atlanta. I could definitely take family here when they visit. It is a more cozy and less flashy type atmosphere. I wasn't totally impressed with the service and the food didn't WOW me, but it was pretty good. Food - 5+, service - 3 (at the best), thus 4 for an overall experience (quality of the food makes it worth to suffer from the service, at least in my book). Very good wine list, mostly Italian, with a few other options, but very diverse in any case, also offering quite a few wines by the glass. Ribollita soup with white beans was outstanding - I was expecting something almost stew-like, and instead the soup was light and refreshing (and delicious, of course). Had a Golden Tilefish special as my entrée (with risotto, roasted baby carrots and shiitake mushrooms) - had to pretty much stop myself from leaking the plate. Ultimately creative dessert - Parmesan and rosemary gelato - was absolutely delicious (well, I guess you have to identify as a foodie to attest to it). For my small gripes, Coffee Corretto was served with Fernet Branca, which didn't make sense to me (I would much prefer a simple and traditional grappa). Service was mediocre. It was friendly, but not attentive. Bread basket arrived after appetizers were served. We had to ask 3 times for the silverware after the desserts already arrived. The service definitely doesn't match the food, which is creative and superb on its own. Restaurant offers free valet parking which makes it very convenient. This is what I call an outstandingly all rounder restaurant. And that coming from a vegetarian who only had 2 options on the entire menu yet the one dish I ordered The Ravioli with brown butter was just mouth watering. In fact my mouth is still watering from the memory of that dish. Cooked to perfection with the perfect balance of savory and sweetness. They are surely to win you over the moment you walk in. Fine dining but stuffy not at all. The seating host was very charming and held our table for a good 20 mins. Their wait staff is very courteous and thoughtfully listen to your taste needs, starting with wine and cocktails to the dessert. The wine selection is great. I wasn't a big fan of the Capellini as it lacked flavor but the ravioli as mentioned earlier more than made up for it. We were lucky to dine there first on a nice evening as it gave us the chance to enjoy their beautiful patio. It's a perfect way to spend a fall evening. The interior seating too isn't bad at all. A vibrant ambiance yet not too loud gives you enough energy to enjoy the space yet not be distracted from your dinner. Of course would highly recommend to not leave without trying their dessert. The Budino (white chocolate bread pudding), i think the name just says it all. It's very rich so definitely recommend for a share between two. I adored my visit to Valenza. I went with a friend around 8:30 on a Wednesday night. Our server wish I could remember his name, was fabulous. He had a thick accent but was helpful and sweet. We ordered the meat and cheese plate to start which was excellent. We both had the Italian Cab and enjoyed it immensely. She ordered the Butternut squash ravioli that was served with toasted pecans on top and a very light saltiness to it, almost sweet succulence. I went with the short rib ravioli, I believe. It was much saltier and very much my thing, I loved the tenderness and the pasta ravioli was authentic and had a good texture. You could tell everything was made by hand and craft was very well done. We followed dinner with a delicious dessert recommended by our server. It was a peach pasty puff type of thing served with a balsamic ice cream. Oh my good lord is was absolutely delicious ! Creamy, warm, the buttery crust of the pastry was so flakey and delicate. I want to enjoy it again! The balsamic ice cream I'd have to say was the bit that made me the most skeptical. However, it was the best part of the sweet dish. Just wonderful. We also ordered two Irish coffees to top off our full bellies and it warmed us from the inside out! Our sweet waiter brought us limoncello on the house, made just a few days before. It was traditional, flavorful and strong. Very nice touch. I love a good Italian restaurant. They seem to be popular as they were very busy when I got there at around 7:30 on a Thursday. Found them on yelp after searching specifically for butternut squash raviolis. Called in a take out order for them minus the pecans do to an allergy. THEY ARE AMAZING. My only complaint is that they didn't provide any plastic silverware for my take away order, but maybe that's just a personal pet peeve of mine. I will definitely be back. read more

As you know service and chefs can change through the years and food/service can change. I can happily say the food and service is still excellent over the 2 years I've dined here. I've been to this restaurant several times and I have never been disappointed. I can't think of a entree dish that I didn't like. My favorites are the papadelle, spaghetti and meatballs, scallops and short rib raviolli and butternut squash ravioli. There's only one item that I was not satisfied with, it was the lemon ricotta cheesecake - it was dry. I didn't even finish it because I didn't like it and that's rare, I usually finish dessert even if it's not great..LOL! All other desserts I've had in the past were good. They do change their menus from time to time so hopefully they'll come up with a better tarte dessert. Overall this is still my favorite local restaurant. read more

I went here on a friday night and they were packed. We valet the car and walked 2 feet to the door. Even with reservations, we had to wait a good 10 minutes. (weird) Our waitress was very attentive and helpful with recommendations. She did come back to check on us often. The menu here changes, I'm not sure how often but.. it does. FOr an appetizer we had several types of olives and pate. My friend got the swordfish entree, We both enjoyed it. And as for me, I had duck parpardelle. Which i also enjoyed. We also ordered a bottle of Lambrusco. Can't go wrong there... If you're going here and looking to get the same meal as ours, its about 75/person. Over all the food was good, but for the pricing... I'd rather go elsewhere. Note: the restroom situation. They only have 2 individual stalls... this can be an inconvenience. This restaurant was a last minute choice after we could not decide what to have for dinner. It was about a 30 minute drive from our hotel but it was absolutely worth it. The restaurant is situated in a small strip with complimentary valet parking. You can see big beautiful sprawling homes situated right behind where the restaurant is located. The interior is warm and romantic giving way to all of your Italian restaurant desires. When we arrived there was a 35 minute wait but the hostess escorted us to a bench and checked in with us every now and then to keep us informed on how long it would be before we were seated. Our waitress was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable and quick to give us excellent recommendations. Everything was scrumptious from the appetizer to the dessert. I usually never make it to have dessert at Italian restaurants because I am so full from the pasta. These dishes were filling yet not heavy, allowing me to enjoy as many courses as I pleased. My husband and I have been to Valenza twice in the past few months which is more frequent than other restaurants we generally visit. You could say this is our go-to Italian place for the time being. Personally, I like it more than Il Giallo which is closer to home. Having been here twice, we had VERY different experiences. The first time was incredible since it was new and we had such a great service. The second time, which was this past weekend, was just ok and it really was because of the lackluster service. But first, the food: Valenza does change their menu so we enjoyed their summer selections the first time, and the fall options on our latest visit. Burrata salad with squash/zucchini and tomatoes: this was pretty amazing. I wasn't sure if I would like the squash/zucchini strips being raw, but they were well-dressed with olive oil and splashes of balsamic vinegar. The tomatoes were very sweet and the burrata creamy. Radicchio salad: Our waiter warned us it was bitter, but it was exactly what I wanted. Something slightly more darker in taste versus your typical salad. Fritto misto: It's not just calamari but appears to even have had salmon bits, chopped up prawns, and sliced lemons. This is satisfying as an app and might even be on the salty side, but I would not get this again because, even though I don't eat crustaceans, I think they undersold when they said there were prawns and the bits of fried salmon in here seem a bit odd. Honestly, it felt like we were eating leftover chunks of fried seafood. Bucatini with guanciale: It's like their answer to a fancier cacio e pepe but with pork bits. This was something I craved on our second visit so we've had this at least twice. Pappardelle: To me, this tasted like a deconstructed lasagne but with less cheese. I felt like I couldn't stop eating this. It's pretty substantial with the bolognese sauce. Gnocchi with brown butter and sage: The gnocchi was pleasantly good. I'm typically not a fan when they get all gummy, but Valenza's looked and tasted like they had pan-fried to have a slighty brown sear but they still had a soft and pillowy texture that almost melts in your mouth. Black Squid Ink Pasta: Personally, I think squid ink pasta is gimmicky because I don't taste anything different about it and maybe it's because I haven't had "good" squid ink pasta. I will say that it didn't have a hard al dente texture to it, but it had this tender texture without feeling overcooked as if it were egg-based. There was a lot of shrimp or "prawns" in this dish than we thought there would be and definitely much less calamari. Veal Osso Bucco with Risotto: The risotto was really nice with a smooth texture. The veal was juicy and honestly, there was so much food we ended up bringing this home. Service on our first visit was stellar. We obviously had questions and our waiter gave us some recommendations. On our second visit, we noticed that our waiter who had a thick accent, didn't seem to care about our table and focused more on a larger table next to us. We had a side dish that was forgotten and more importantly, beers that were forgotten. Thankfully we weren't charged for a forgotten dish. The manager stops by every table and although typically we don't get bad service, if the manager had asked us later during our meal, I probably would have been more open to speak about the service we received. We'll probably still come back if we're craving Italian. Fingers crossed, better service. read more

One of my hands down all-time favorite Italian restaurants in Atlanta! I'll literally drive 30 minutes out of my way to come here! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu - some of my current favorites are the agnolotti, the ravioli and the carbonara. Great wine list (half off wine Monday's) and a full bar (they'll even make you a chocolate martini or espresso martini for dessert). But PLEASE bring back the white bean dip & bread, gnocchi with pancetta & mushrooms and the scallops - some of my absolute favorites of all time. Their patio is the best during the warm weather and the ambiance is very cozy on the inside. They have live jazz music every Wednesday or Thursday still I believe. The service was wonderful. The food was delicate and fantastic. I took a group of 10 for a birthday and they were very accommodating. The manager was very vocal about our comfort and made sure everything was running smoothly. I ate the muscles and the broth was delicious, not too salty. The muscles came with like 5 slices of toasted bread which was refreshing considering I always have to order . The shredded beef filled ravioli was equally tasty. It fell apart in my mouth. Enzo, our waiter was so attentive and truly professional. He was a champ at keeping out glasses full. Corking fee is $20 and they have a two bottle max. We brought a group of 8 to Valenza for my girlfriend's 27th birthday last month. The ambiance is really nice (which is how we picked it after searching online for good pasta in ATL) and when we first got there we were concerned that the crowd seemed a bit older and maybe not the most popular spot for younger, more ethnically diverse groups and might not be our cup of tea. The food and service were impeccable, and if it IS true that people in our demographic are not going there as frequently, I hope they start soon! We've been telling all of our friends how amazing Valenza is. My girlfriend is notorious for holding up a meal to take photos of her food, and she only managed to take ONE and some blurry screenshots of a video (sorry!) because even she couldn't help herself digging in. Our server (I believe his name was David) was excellent, he gave really good recommendations, explained how the pasta is made fresh in house, and clued us in on other venues the owners have that we have added to our list to check out. He also let us know we could do halfsies of any of the pastas so several of us got two dishes to try, which was an awesome way to cover a lot of the menu on our first visit. We got cozze (mussels) as an appetizer, which came as such a huge portion that those who ordered it finished and passed the rest along to those of us who wanted to try. We also got the fritto misto which was quite good. The spaghetti and meatballs were a hit, as well as the bucatini/carbonara which are pretty safe choices. I didn't try the squid ink pasta but from what I recall the person who ordered it really liked it. I got a half order of the tagliatelle and it was delicious. I honestly don't know what else was ordered because the STAR OF THE SHOW, darling, was the ravioli. Butternut squash filling with pecans and brown butter--I cannot express to you how good this was. It is just sweet enough, savory, heavenly, what ever other dramatic adjectives you can think of, this is it. A half plate of this accidentally came out instead of my girlfriend's bucatini and David told us to just keep it and let everyone try it while they grabbed the bucatini and everyone loved it. I finished my own in record time and ordered another half serving to go (which was just as yummy the next day). One of our friends ended up missing the majority of dinner and joined us to grab something to go but the staff got his food out (pollo al mattone -- delicious) so quickly that he was able to enjoy it while we had dessert. SPEAKING of dessert, knowing that it was my girlfriend's birthday, David arranged for a complimentary smorgasbord of dessert to be brought out to surprise her. He sent 3 flavors of rich gelato, bread pudding (my new favorite), tiramisu, and something else too if I recall correctly. It was so generous and really made the meal that much better. David seems like he's passionate about food in general but I think he's very passionate about the quality of the food, ingredients, and experience there at Valenza. He talked very vividly about each dish and took great care of us. We really couldn't believe how affordable the plates were either! I would eat here (and order extra to go) a thousand times over some steakhouse with even $30-50 entrees. This should really be the next big spot for college students and young professionals who want to enjoy a nice night out without hurting their pockets. I'm pretty sure they do switch up their menu seasonally based on ingredients but I am BEGGING, please don't change a thing when it comes to the ravioli. I will be back again and again. I've never written a review this long in my life, but I have had REALLY good Italian food, including in Italy and this is top tier. I decided to spend my Sunday birthday having Sunday Supper at Valenza. What a treat! Previous birthdays and anniversaries have schooled me in Valenza's exquisite celebrations and this lived up to the treat! We were a group of 8 and seated on the left of the restaurant, on the elevated table, which made things special. The menu was perfect. I loved my salad, and, as always, loveloveLOVED the spaghetti and meatballs. So delicious! The passed sides were equally as amazing. I find myself thinking about that marscapone risotto more than I'd care to admit... Because I'm not a sweets eater, I was generously comped my favorite cappucino notte, which is an awesome coffee with frangelico and bailey's. Perfection end to a perfect meal. Three people in our group were Valenza newbies and they were super duper impressed! I just love it here and am so thankful they are in our neighborhood! read more

Why not 5? On Wednesday June 12, 2013 my party of three arrived for our 7pm reservation only to learn the valet was full because the Big Green Egg people were having a patio party. After being seated next to a table cackling, loud, whinny voiced women who looked like they drove the truck up from Stockbridge, we were greeted by the most awesome of waiters who explained he his 20 years experience all of the years spent in high end Italian spots. I initially thought it was bad service, but I was waiting at the wrong entrance facing Dresden rd. No employee bothered to say the hostess stand was at the other entrance. There needs to be a big sign. Anyway, the food was great. I had the rabbit entree and chocolate tarte and both were delicious. I tried my friend's butternut squash ravioli and that tasted great too. I sat outside, and the ambiance was very charming. It looked like a lighted garden, and it was really pretty on a fall evening. It was a good experience, and I look forward to returning. read more

When we arrived at Valenza, we were disappointed because we had asked for a quiet area. There was nothing available so we thought we would have to deal with it. I am hard of hearing especially in loud places. I haven't seen my sister in a year and a half, so we all wanted to catch up. The wonderful manager, Michael Etter, came over to us the next minute and said, we we put this table outside!!!! We could not believe how fabulous he was in helping us enjoy the evening. And the other plus was that the food was delicious and we will be back soon. read more

Tried this place for the first time last night and loved it! I was so much in the mood for Italian food and they didn't disappoint us. We shared Polpo (Mediterranean octopus) as our appetizer and wished we each had our own plate. The octopus was tender and a little spiciness made this dish even more tasteful. I had Pappardelle for entrée and it was exactly what I was craving for! I couldn't finish the plate so I had the left over for lunch...still happy with it too. Next time I want to try some desserts and cappuccinos. Oh and the service was great too...this might become my new favorite restaurant! read more

I love this place.... So why the 1 star? Well, I think it deserves to get dinged pretty harshly for the price of the drinks. Absolutely a rip off. I only really noticed this last night as we popped in for a drink after dinner elsewhere. $30 (plus tip) for a relatively ok manhattan and a gin cocktail. Seriously? Look, the food is fabulous, eat there a lot, and usually just pay the bill without paying too much attention to it. It's always over $120 for 2 with a drink or two and now I know why. There are plenty of great Italian restaurants that serve just as good (some even better) and don't take the piss or advantage with their prices. Rant over. I'll be back, just not nearly as often. read more

This was my first visit and I was greatly disappointed. The service was slow. It took 15 minutes for the server to come get our orders. Our waiter told us there was a fish special and a pork chop special and walked away without giving any details. He was anything but welcoming. The food was just okay. I ordered the spaghettini. The dish was slightly above room temperature. The meatballs were tasty, the sauce just so-so, and the promise of buffalo mozzarella was fulfilled with 3 small pieces. My companions had somewhat better luck with their food, but no one was blown away and dying to go back. This place is LOUD! It was somewhat difficult to carry on a conversation. So disappointed. This used to be my favorite restaurant in the city. Risotto to die for. This place used to be amazing but I fear they are coasting on rep now. Ate there this week. The Risoto was disgusting. I mentioned this to the server and they didn't offer to do anything about it. I was with a business colleague and did not want to make a big scene, but I tried to let the waiter know just how disappointed I was. The other dishes like the lasagna and salmon were pretty mediocre as well. I heard a guy at a table next to me also disappointed with the risotto. The service was generally quite good. But the formerly stellar food has just tuned down to average. Since it used to be so good, I am only giving it 2 stars. The food is prob 3 but because of the price, I think 2 is generous. We've been coming to Valenza for years and find it to be consistently superb...Friday night was no exception. The dining room is elegant while casual with the bar area usually busy but neveloud. We start with fritto misto which was really good then split the pappardelle, which is on my top ten all time favorite dishes I've had in ATL, and the fish special which came with risotto, so good! They have nice select of wines by the glass and a rotation of good beers. Our server was informed and very helpfully. It's always a nice date night at Valenza! read more
