No. 246 is a gem in downtown Decatur. What started as a solo dinner at the bar after a long day turned into a pleasant evening with the attention of the bar staff - particularly Linda! After expressing that I was open to any variety of dishes, in hopes of venturing out from my "usual" of chicken parmigiana, Linda made several very thoughtful recommendations. I enjoyed the light flavors of the Agnolotti pasta, and the richness of the Marsala chicken. I am personally not a huge fan of mushroom taste, but the dish was not mushroom forward at all and the Marsala sauce was perfect. I also tried the cannellini beans after both Linda and her counterparts insisted that it's the most underrated dish on the menu and there were absolutely correct! I could have eaten the beans as my main dish and been perfectly happy. I finished it all off with the tiramisu, which was the perfect balance of sweetness and a very authentic taste about it! Anyone who knows me personally knows that I don't eat leftovers, but I reheated my leftovers on the stove and it was just as great as the night before - making the dishes well worth their value! The restaurant has a very quiet and respectable ambiance. The bar is inviting, while the seating area offers both group or family style dinner tables or more intimate tables tucked away. I was wondering why so many people had either recently left poor reviews or had downgraded their previous reviews, and after my most recent visit I unfortunately understand why. Something has completely changed about this spot. It used to be one of my favorites, a nice moderately priced sit-down Italian restaurant tucked away in downtown Decatur. Maybe they've grown too big for their britches as we southerners say, but this most recent visit was likely my last. Staff attitudes were terrible, the execution of the food was a joke. My siblings and I had hyped this restaurant up to our mom and thought she would enjoyed being wined and dined. We arrived admittedly about 10 minutes after our reservation time (thanks to the city of Decatur's hostile parking policies), after attempting to call the restaurant and let them know we were circling the building. I say attempting because the number rings straight to an AI voice that doesn't allow you to speak once it asks you a question. I even tried sending messages through the OpenTable app. Either way, the restaurant claims you have a 15 minute grace period. Once we finally walked inside, my sister leaned over and whispered that their posted food inspection score was a low B. We exchanged glances but figured maybe they were inspected on an off day. The host (once she finally stopped avoiding eye contact with us) spontaneously let us know that since we weren't on time, we would be "getting a table in the back by the kitchen". What an odd policy to announce to your patrons that you're going to be punishing them with bad seating. The table was indeed by the kitchen but given how many tables this restaurant has tried to cram into the dining room, none of them are spectacular. I looked around and saw folks at tables bumping into the ones next to them, that's how tightly everyone is seated. Our server was friendly enough, and was able to recommend some good dishes. Word to the wise, while they bring bread to the table, it's one half-slice per person. We learned the hard way (because our server never mentioned it) that asking for more bread (the exact same amount as before mind you) is $7. You could buy a freshly baked loaf for that price. The actual food was fine, not bad but nothing like we've had in the past. It arrived fairly quickly. Where the dinner continued nosediving was when my sister, after seeing that we all had ordered small side dishes of pasta, decided she'd like to order some as well. By small side dish, I mean a fistful in a soup cup. I add that detail because when she asked the server, the server stated it would be AT LEAST a 20 minute wait. We asked her to repeat herself because surely we heard that wrong, right? 20 minutes for spaghetti?! She left for a few minutes, then came back and said her manager confirmed that even if she asked the kitchen to rush it, the soonest would be 18 minutes. You see a pattern here right? This restaurant seems like they relish letting their customers know who's in charge...and here's a hint reader, it's not you. Where the evening actually became appalling was a result of our closeness to the kitchen. They have a sous chef working dining room-adjacent doing the final dish prep before the food is picked up by the runners. I know kitchens usually don't utilize gloves (the whole, hands can be frequently washed but the same pair of gloves will touch multiple surfaces thing). However this gentleman unabashedly practiced some of the worst cross contamination practices I've ever seen. He'd grabbed fistfuls of Parmesan cheese to garnish a plate, then reach in his pocket for his phone. Then he'd arrange leaves of lettuce for salad, then TOUCH HIS HAIR. We watched him on two occasions have, either family friends or familiar patrons, walk up to him excitedly and he'd hug them and shake their hands and pat their shoulders, and once done would immediately grab forks and knives and spoons by their business ends, squeeze lemons, slice bread, fist the cheese container....absolutely disgusting and completely explains the health inspection score. If anything it should have been lower. We were only 5 feet away from the guy and he made eye contact with us several times so it's not like he was embarrassed. A long haired woman came over a few times and did the same as him, though she did put black gloves on once or twice. To top it off, once we received the check was we saw plenty of upcharges and surcharges that our server neglected to tell us she would be adding, so her tip reflected her oversight. To wrap it up, not only is the service and food not worth the price, but this place is actually unhygienic. Unless they change their practices, you're eating here at your own risk. Get here now! I really enjoyed this restaurant in Decatur Square. The ambience was amazing. Our waitress was so kind and everyone was very accommodating since we had a irritable toddler with us. The food was 12 out of 10! If you order nothing else, get the espresso martini and the garlic cheesy bread. I had a wonderful time here and can't wait to go back. We went here to celebrate our anniversary. It was a Wednesday and packed, so I'm glad we made a reservation. Highly recommend doing that. The hostess greeted us and wished us happy anniversary, as well as our waiter, and they sent over free champagne for us. The food was beyond delicious and intentionally prepared. Last night I checked out this restaurant it had a beautiful setting and can be perfect for date night, friends, or family. I had a really great waiter, Adam, who was knowledgeable about the menu and gave awesome recommendations. I started off with the breadsticks, which were good, although some were burnt and you could taste it. However, the cheese pull was great and the flavor was still enjoyable I just removed the burnt edges. I had the shrimp scampi with a side of pasta, and it was excellent. I usually avoid trying new places on my birthday, but after hearing so many great reviews about No. 246, I decided to take the risk--and wow, it paid off! The ambiance was stunning. Dim lighting created an intimate, cozy vibe that felt perfect for a special night. Our server, Josh, was incredible--kind, personable, and patient. Honestly, I hope he's our server again next time. This place is super overhyped. My boyfriend got us reservations for my birthday and we were so excited to try it. We should up and our reservation isn't even ready, okay cool it happens. 30 minutes later our table is finally ready for us. We sit down and the server gives us some recommendations and we order. When the prosciutto comes out, it's literally just prosciutto with oil drizzled over it. We then wait an hour for our entrées to come out. All while the tables around us are getting their food. People who sat down after we ordered are getting their entrées before us. Our waiter is nowhere in sight. I have been wanting to go to No. 246 FOREVER. I made a reservation many weeks in advance, as me and my wife wanted to come for Valentine's Day. We came on the 13th, instead of the 14th though because we could order whatever we wanted, where as on the 14th, it was a pre-fixed menu. We weren't sure what we wanted, so we asked our server for some reccs based on the food that we were going to get, and she recommended this one. It was really good! Perfect for the food we got. We started with some bread for the table, and then ordered 2 appetizers. We got the prosciutto and the garlic bread. You MUST/NEED/HAVE to get the garlic bread! It has these chilies in them, and it tastes soooo good. It's so cheesy and garlicy too. Our friends told us ahead of time to make sure we get the garlic bread, and we are so glad we did. We had leftovers to take home, and I'm so glad we did, LOL! The prosciutto was okay, nothing special. It was quite oily and I didn't care for it too much. I wouldn't get it again. For our mains, we got the spicy rigatoni vodka and the orcchiette. Both tasted EXCELLENT. The rigatoni had a real nice bite to it. There was a nice kick to it as well. I personally liked the orcchiette more cause I am a sucker for sausage in pasta. It was a garlic cream based type pasta, so completely different from the rigatoni. It tasted so flavorful, but it didn't feel super heavy (personally.) I would definitely get both of these dishes again. They have quite a few different items on the menu too, so you will definitely find something you like. They have almost 10 different pizzas, quite a few pasta dishes, and also about 10 main course type dishes (seafood/chicken/etc.) My wife told them it was our birthday when I went to the restroom, and they brought out for me a nice little candle and an orange flavored limoncello shot! It was such a nice surprise. Our server, Brandi, was excellent! She was super knowledgeable about the menu and super friendly. I took my partner to celebrate an early Valentine's dinner on February 11, 2026 at No. 246 and overall had a solid date night with a few highs and a few "almosts." Appetizers: We started with the No. 246 Meatball ($9) and Garlic Bread with marinara ($17). I'm not usually a meatball person, but I kept seeing reviews recommending this one, so I gave it a try. It's one giant meatball, and I have to say -- it was the juiciest, most moist meatball I've ever had. Tender, well-seasoned, and sitting in a rich tomato sauce that complemented it nicely. That said, I still don't love meatballs in general, so for me it's a 3.5/5 -- but if you're a meatball fan, you'd probably rate it higher. The garlic bread had one of the best cheese pulls I've ever seen. Visually? 10/10. It was golden, crispy on the edges, soft inside, and loaded with bubbling cheese. I just wish it had more of a garlic punch. If there was a lot of garlic, the cheese overpowered it. It came with a bright red marinara sauce, but honestly, the bread was good enough to eat on its own. 4.5/5. Entrees: My partner ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese ($27). The pasta was silky and perfectly al dente, coated in a slow-simmered, hearty meat sauce that tasted rich and deeply savory. You could tell it had been cooked down properly -- layered, comforting, classic. He enjoyed it but felt it didn't fully wow him, so he rated it 3/5. I ordered the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka ($23). The rigatoni was cooked well and coated in a creamy, vodka sauce that was smooth and slightly tangy. I just wish it had more heat. It wasn't as spicy as I expected or hoped for. I asked if we'd be sharing with other patrons, and she said no -- they just wanted to seat us as tables became available since we had a reservation. I understood, but for a date night (especially early Valentine's), we lowkey wished we had asked to wait for a booth or a wall table for a more intimate vibe. Very crazy how a review can change after 7 months. Dined here tonight and I got something very opposite of good service. We didn't get our bread service until 40 minutes later and asking two different people for it after seeing all the tables around us getting it upon seating. We finished our appetizers and still hadn't received any. We were also never checked up, dirty dishes were never collected, water was never refilled and check was never brought out until we asked. Not sure what changed but the service compared to the last few times I've dined here was different. The interior is gorgeous and much bigger than expected, although still cozy. I ordered an espresso martini (very good!) and a Hugo spritz (also very good) for drinks. They both came out very quickly. We started with a Caesar Salad & the No. 246 meatball. They were both delicious and the meatball was huge. The server emphasized that everything is shareable and she was not wrong. The Caesar is served with anchovies on top which is yum! For my main course, I ordered the black spaghetti which is very popular apparently, the dish included shrimp. My friend beside me ordered the Chicken Marsala with a side of pasta. My spaghetti was good, a bit spicy although not too much for me. Yall. So worth it. Parking: be aware that there is a small lot adjacent but there is also a close parking garage. These are paid spots. I don't believe they validate. Atmosphere: moody but bright. It feels elevated without being too snooty. There is also a patio but it was so hot that the inside was preferred. I do recommend getting a reservation. Food: unreal. We started with the Caesar salad which was perfectly dressed, spiced, and with perfect croutons. We also had the appetizer meatball which was truly perfect - juicy and flavorful. For our entree, the cacio e pepe and chicken al forno. Yall. The chicken al forno sauce alone was drinkable. It was herb and garlic forward with a gravy thickness. My boyfriend thought the Tagliatelle Bolognese was alright but after he reheated them at home, he said it tasted better (he added hot sauce to it, haha). The Bellini tasted mostly of Prosecco, even though the menu said it also comes with a peach taste. We were also given free brownies for our anniversary, which was sweet! This has been on my list for awhile. Street parking is available for free on Sunday. We had reservations and were sat immediately. The bartenders and the waitress were very helpful. We ordered the Margherita pizza, shrimp scampi, chicken limone, chicken Marsala and a side of pasta. The food was spectacular. The shrimp scampi was my favorite and the pasta was some of the best I've had. Highly recommend. I will definitely be back to try the steak. read more

This is a somewhat small but adorable restaurant in downtown Decatur. Our daughter's birthday reservation was for a Monday night and it was still pretty busy, which was a good sign that the food was going to be good. It was, but the 3 stars is for the service. Our server was fairly attentive, but the food took way too long to arrive and when it came, half of the dishes were lukewarm. (For the price point, we needed to hear "careful, these plates are extremely hot.") My husband's order was also incorrect, but our server caught it and offered him the correct order to go. I ordered the tiramisu to go, which took another 20 mins to get and was not worth the wait. However, everyone loved their food. I finished my plate of the Spicy Rigatoni - semi cold pasta and all! We had a reservation for a party of 6 for a work birthday dinner on a weekday night and we were sat once our party arrived. We each got a drink (Kentucky mule, old fashioned and their special old fashioned) and they were all delicious. They start you with bread and a tomato olive oil dip which set the tone for the rest of the meal - INCREDIBLE. My boss got the spaghetti and meatball and swears it's the best thing you can get! It did look delicious. My coworkers were a little nervous to get the squid ink pasta but they were both super complementary and cleaned their plates (flavorful and cooked well). Two of us got the spicy rigatoni. I added shrimp and my peer added the sausage. The sausage was a crumbled sausage which we weren't expecting but he loved it. I had the shrimp with mine which was cleaned and cooked well. Unlike other places, when they say spicy here there is a little heat that may be unappealing to some. The birthday treat was a lemonchello shot which was nice. Our server was super attentive and we had an amazing meal. If it were closer to being in the work budget, we probably would have gone a few times. It's a must try place! read more

Sat outside on the patio last night and had a lovely experience. Our server Hala (may have spelled this wrong!) was so friendly and attentive. I had a great glass of Cab. Started with the prosciutto plate which was pricey but worth it in my opinion! It had olive oil and cracked pepper on it and was probably my favorite dish. For dinner I had the Bolognese made gluten free. This was the only disappointment of the evening as the pasta was undercooked to where the pasta was a little hard to chew. However, people tend to undercook gluten free pasta because it more easily falls apart when boiled for too long. My husband's spaghetti and meatballs was enough for 2 people, according to him, and he was so excited to take some home for next day's lunch. I ordered the strawberries out of curiosity and loved them. Just a bowl of strawberries with evoo and sea salt was *chefs kiss*! Such a perfect little sweet treat to go along with the pasta. We will definitely return if in the mood for Italian but I would just plan to order a non-pasta dish that can be made GF next time! read more

I took my daughter and granddaughter here for a night out on the town. The atmosphere is always amazing. Our server was knowledgeable. I had the chicken Marsala with a side of pasta. My daughter had the chicken al forno with a side of pasta and my granddaughter had the spicy rigatoni vodka pasta. All dishes were tasty as we shared from all plates. Don't even think about it just go!! From the ambiance to the service! Every server I've had is passionate about the food. Which is always a goood sign! I tried the black spaghetti my first time and it was DELICIOUS, however when I tried that Chicken Al Forno on my second trip.......Mannnn! Reservations: Highly recommend making a reservation. We made ours for Monday at 6:00PM and were promptly seated upon arrival. Parking: There are a variety of parking options in downtown Decatur, including street parking and parking decks. Make sure to read the signs as some hours are free. Food: I ordered the Tagliatelle and it was so fresh and delicious. Cleaned my plate. My friend ordered the meatball from the apps, which I got to sample, and it was so good as well. My friend also ordered the penne Al la vodka and enjoyed her meal. Before all the food came out, we were served two pieces of bread and marinara sauce. As a lover of carbs, I appreciated it. Drinks: They have a variety of wines, beers, cocktails, and mocktails. I ordered the Hugo Spritz (à mocktail) and it was reminiscent of summer. I loved it!
