They must recognize me. 11:40 I'm writing the review still no food First thing I noticed is white tape over the prices. And faded hand written priced. Not very professional Yeah, she recognizes me because I asked is there a big order ahead of me and then she handed me the food and said it's ready I believe she's the same cashier that I actually canceled his order and she didn't refund the money. Waited in line at the Starbucks drive-thru and noticed this taco shop. Always willing to try new places, so I called and ordered three soft tacos: carne asada, carnitas, and abobada. She kept asking me what size and I just said large. I didn't realize they offered the smaller street tacos! The streets tacos are also only $1.99! Ugh. Came inside to pay and they were still cooking my tacos. It's really nice to see first-hand that they make the tacos "to order", meaning as the order comes in. There isn't a bin of overcooked carne sitting in a warmer tray like some places do. While I waited, I poured a few salsas to try at home. $14 for three large (and I do mean large) soft tacos. When I got home, my wife and daughter all shared the tacos and at the end we were STUFFED. Wow. The abobada was the real star, too BTW. Prices are great. The cooking oil they use must be extremely old, because I could taste it on my crunchy tacos, GROSS!!! I was visiting my son who just moved to Vista and went here to eat because they have a large banner that reads: VOTED BEST MEXICAN FOOD - so we assumed it would be a great small hole in the wall gem, BUT we were highly disappointed in their food quality!!! I got a California burrito and it had some carne asada and some very well done fries. I didn't see anything else in it and therefore it was the driest burrito I've ever had. I put multiple cups of two different salsas, their red and their chunky, so I wouldn't choke the dry burrito. I guess I know why I never knew it was there even though I'd been in the strip all many, many times. One of the better taco shops in North County. Quality of food and taste were my two main takeaways. Vista residence seem to agree as Valerie's was constantly busy with togo orders. Always a good sign. California Burrito - fries, well-trimmed asada, cheddar cheese, and well thats it. This is a basic version of a California Burrito, but you can buy other ingredients like sour cream and guac if you like. The burrito was delicious and generous with the asada. Perhaps it could have included some pico de gallo but they do have a salsa bar to add your own. There was one issue with our meal however and it was with their enchiladas. While the enchilada sauce, the sides of beans and rice were really good the shredded cheddar cheese inside the enchiladas was not melted inside. Just a pile a shredded cheese. Overall Valerie's was a pleasant surprise and well worth trying. Cant wait to come back and try their famous burriro bowl. read more

Our go to burrito shop. Whenever we're feeling a burrito we come here for their surf and turf. Best surf and turf around! The shrimps are big and it's not inky tasting. Beef seasoned well and over a good size burrito. My husband loves their chicken flautas. There's actually meat in there and it's nicely fried. It will get you if you eat all of it. Comes with 3 but cut in half, so appears like 6. Big and stuff with meat . Fish taco- was ok. Although big chunk of fish, the fish was slightly under seasoned. Salsas are great. In a city with lots of good taco shops, Valerie's is consistently great. I have been to this location on multiple occasions and have always had positive experiences. Their rolled tacos don't taste frozen, the carne asada is tender and flavorful, even the bean and cheese burrito hits the spot. Last visit I got a chile relleno which was difficult to eat in the takeout box and not as strong as their other offerings so be aware. The salsa bar has more varieties than most taco shops. The first thing I will note is, the Ocean Ranch, El Camino Real and this spot all have slightly different menus. It was FULL of shredded, perfectly seasoned chicken. I never need salsas with these bowls! I usually don't like chicken from Mexican food joints as it's typically boiled, shredded and lacking flavor, but I was wowed here. At 6$ including tax, it is such a good deal. I mean, I can get 4 bowls here for the same amount I paid for the fish from Fresh Agave that I threw away. I arrived at a weird time between meals (10am), and I was the only patron. While waiting the 5 minutes for my food, literally every table filled outside (I assume a shift break was occurring in the area). That kind of "busy" is a great sign for me!
