While in the area, I decided to stop in this place to buy a couple of tacos. While the food was okay, I was somewhat disappointed. Here is why. After reviewing the menu board, I asked for two beef tacos, and they said all they have is chicken. So I decided to go for the chicken tacos. Then I asked for some salsa to go with it. I was given green salsa. I asked if I could have red salsa, and was told that the red salsa was very hot. I had to settle for the green. The staff if friendly. The menu is pretty big for such a small place. I have only tried it 1 time for their breakfast burrito, around $5. They have 3 or 4 options for the breakfast burrito. I think Jose's is a solid taco shop among the many San Diego taco shops. I probably would rate 3.5 stars but They have delicious, generous and affordable lunch specials that include a drink that up it to a 4 rating. I typically get the flying saucer which is a large salad in a fried tortilla with beans, sour cream, avocado and tomato and chicken for me. If I feel like cheating on the diet I get the chicken chimichanga special. This is a HUGE deep fried burrito topped with sour cream and guacamole with a side of beans and rice. You get all this food pictures for less than $10!!! The burrito is filled with your choice of meat, beef or chicken and it is delicious. Also they have your typical extras like spicy carrots and a few different sauces, red for me always. Those of you north county folks who live in the area should check this spot out for lunch. They mentioned that the portions were huge especially if you ordered the Jose's Special Burrito... so that I did, with carne asada. Within minutes (went around 1:30) I had my burrito. I had ordered half to go since I heard it was large. It was large, although I just about ate the entire half. The flavor of the carne asada was tasty. It had just the right amount of rice, lettuce, onions, cilantro and beans in the burrito. It's a little difficult to eat since it is so large. I didn't order anything else besides a drink so I find it a need to return and try something new! Plenty of seating, but when I went not all the tables were wiped down yet. It's around the corner from my office and has been the cause of many failed diet days for me. It's just too tempting for my own good. The food is consistently good and what you'd expect. I've tried the carne asada burrito, pollo asado burrito, breakfast burrito, chile relleno burrito, fish tacos, and various plates of enchiladas and tacos, etc. with rice and beans and they've all satisfied my cravings perfectly. Besides being consistently good, there's not a lot to set this apart from the multitudes of hole-in-the-wall taco shops with a male first name printed on its signs... There is nothing too unique in its offerings, but I consider it "above average" among its peers. I will say that the salsa picante is pretty damn good (and spicy!) and their salsa bar has lots of the fresh carrots and peppers up there, and is pretty well stocked in general. Love Jose's Taco shop for any quick Mexican bites near my work! Their food is never over salted and never old/left over... they stay busy! Breakfast Ham burrito is my morning order. For lunch I usually enjoy their Chicken Taco Salad (comes in a friend tortillas bowl), Chicken Rolled Tacos, Cheese Enchilada &Beef Taco Combo, and regular Carne Asada Burrito. Their Green Salsa is yummy, and their red salsa is an authentic Roasted Smokey Dried Chile Salsa. Not the usually watery red salsa. This is a great little taco shop located in the same shopping center as Home Depot in Vista. Just off of Melrose Boulevard. There are about 10 tables inside. Restaurant seats about 25 people. There are a couple of tables and seats outside as well. We had the rolled taco and fish taco plates, both were very good. Not very expensive and pretty clean inside. Carnitas burrito is amazing!! And I also love their bean and cheese with added sour cream and guacamole. The prices are super cheap, the bean burrito is under $3 (around $4 with the added extras). Usually, my bf and I can get a crazy huge, fresh and delicious meal for around $10 total. They get really busy at the top of the lunch hour, so if you can, try and show up a little before noon, or a little later. Meh. Though I hate to give these kind of reviews honestly the only reason that people continue to eat here is because it's in the Home Depot parking lot and they're craving Mexican instead of Subway. I wanted a carne asada taco and a side of rice and beans and Coke not Pepsi so yay. The plate came out immediately and so I was thinking did they have that back there already waiting? The salsa bar was a bit sketchy and there was this odd film over the jalapenos. The salsa was terrible. The rice and beans both were cold and there was some lettuce and a half of an unripe tomato on top of it so it made the taste of the beans even worse, salad and beans don't mix.jus saying The only saving grace and the reason why they got a two-star was because the carne asada meat in the taco was actually very good.
