This was my fav place. Went tonight and three strikes--food was awful, portions significantly reduced, and took over 30 minutes at 5:30 pm to get two carnitas street tacos and enchiladas suizas. One of customers asked if ownership had changed and lady behind counter said yes. I am super bummed. The carnitas was awful. It wasn't shredded and it wasn't charred crispy. The meat in the burrito was really well seasoned and it tied so well with the new green salsa! Well, today we learned that this is the original location. We used to go to the San Marcos location, but today we drove over there and it was shut down for good. Fine by me! I can finally get chile Colorado, my favorite entree, again. It was at the Vista location the whole time and I didn't even know. They took it off the menu at the other location a few years ago. This is a good spot to get Mexican in Ocean Hills. It's conveniently located with a huge parking lot. Super nice people who greet you and serve you promptly. Servers were very friendly and helpful. The wall menu board is small and lengthy so you'll have to take your time looking at all over. The restaurant looks pretty clean, but is dated. There's a lot of seating inside and even some outside. You have to go up and order at the counter and then you can take it to go or sit down. The portions are very large. I ordered a Pollo Asado burrito and it was definitely more than enough for two meals. My friend got the enchiladas, which also looked great. Another had the tostada salad, which looked delicious. To go boxes/containers were pretty weak and unfortunately buckled under the weight of the food above it. Still tasted good but it was smashed. Didn't help to have my giant burrito on the very top. They have great salsa and will give you as much as you want. I thought it was good and I would recommend this restaurant. read more

We've been here a few times and every time the food is very good and the portion sizes are great. The operator was very friendly and patient while we were figuring out what we wanted to order. My wife cannot have dairy and I mentioned it several times when orders. Guess what, there was no dairy on any food, not even cojita on the beans. Sour cream was served on the side. Awesome. We waited around for about 10 minutes and took our meals home to eat. Take a look at the pictures because it was all very good and looked good too. I am not someone to ever write a review, but I felt compelled. Unfortunately, I will have to agree with the last two reviews. This shop has easily been my favorite local spot for years now. I am native Californian, and when I say the previous owners made my favorite burrito of all time, that's saying something! I went yesterday, and was told by the unfriendly lady (new owner) at the front that it was under new ownership. I couldn't believe it! I ordered my same burrito I get, but was completely different than what I had got before, not even in the same ballpark. No exaggeration when I say it was probably one of the worst burritos I've had. Does anyone know where the previous owners went? Or if they have a new shop? I am not sure if I will back here now, which is very unfortunate, but would love to find out where the previous owners went so I can support them elsewhere. read more

Looking for some delicious and bountiful Mexican food that doesn't sacrifice quality over quantity? Las Brisas is your answer! Everytime I've ordered from here I get pleasantly surprised on just how much food they provide and just how tasty everything is. And I tell myself that I shouldn't ever eat that much in one sitting but my tastebuds and appetite team up and say otherwise. The main draw for me is their Carnitas Plate. There's a heaping of mouth-watering carnitas on this enormous plate with some cheesy refried beans, guac, pico de gallo and rice to complement it. I bounce between stuffing my face with the combination of items on the plate or making them into tacos with the soft corn tortillas provided (or flour if you so choose). The slightly savory carnitas have some crisp areas and some tender, juicy chunks as well. I've also tried a "Surf & Turf" cali burrito by adding shrimp to their California Burrito. Talk about being in a pure gluttinous oasis. Not only will the abundance of flavors shock you but so will the sheer size of that behemoth. My photos does not do it justice! Lastly, their carne asada fries and nachos are also divine choices :) As for the staff, they are very friendly, patient and at times, provide some good conversations/laughs. Their regular salsa had a kick to it and had green tasty items mixed in. Felt like I was at an Aunty & Uncle's house with Aunty in the front and Uncle was the chef. I ordered the butter tequila shrimp that came with an avocado lettuce salad and buttered rice with green specks of yum. I counted 15 pieces of shrimp. I must mention caldo del Rez half size was a huge serving of a rich beef broth, not the thin clear stuff! The pure meat chunks were gumming soft with NO marbly/stringy stuff. I've ordered the Las Brisa's meal pack a few times. It's perfect for a quick dinner! It comes with two meat choices for tacos, rice, beans, chips, and salsa--plenty of food, and everything is super fresh and flavorful. The carne asada and carnitas are excellent, and we've also tried the chicken, which was tasty. I'm a bit of a salsa snob, and found the salsa to be just okay. Overall, a great option when you want something tasty and convenient. We haven't tried anything else yet, but we're open to exploring more of the menu in the future. read more

$15 for a Cali burrito (carne asada, fries, guac, sour cream, and cheese) and agree that it's huge but IMO, to it's disadvantage. It's so big that you have to choose which 2 ingredients you'll get for each bite and doesn't allow for all the flavors to meld together. Never had a burrito from a taco shop have the bottom bust out on me like today! Flavor wise, it wasn't bad but nor was it wowing me at all. I would much rather had paid a few bucks less, finished it off, and had all the ingredients in each bite. If you've ever had a Cali burrito where the fries, sour cream, cheese, and meat seem to just unite with flavor like when those last few bites are so glorious that you don't quit even if you're full, you'll know what I mean. Hot sauce is also pretty mediocre, thin, and no salsa bar so I assumed it was the only choice. I have a feeling this a place I'd choose an entree like a fajita plate over the burritos. Service, ambiance, cleanliness, etc, was basically what you'd expect from a moms and pop's Mexican shop. read more

One of the other polarizing California cuisines similar to Thai food is Mexican food. I think Californians are pretty spoiled being so close to Mexico, having so many different varieties of delicious Mexican cuisine right at their fingertips. I grow up with mostly Mexican food from the Jalisco area and it definitely set my taste buds for what I think of when I'm craving good Mexican food. On Father's day my mom and I both had a desire for Mexican food, and this place was the closest one to us. she had mentioned that she thought that the restaurant was related to another restaurant in Newport Beach, and thought that maybe the families had expanded to this area. I didn't know one way the other, but I made my way over to check out the menu. Inside it's pretty eclectic, with a mix between beach theme and Mexican theme. I was the only person in the place other than the people working there. I put in an order for one tamal, a vegetarian burrito, two cheese enchiladas, and some flautas just for the heck of it. I helped myself to the salsa bar and waited for our order to be done. It took longer than I thought given that I was the only one there. Once home, I opened all the items and even though it was only at 2 mile drive, they did not travel well. All the sauces had sloshed all over everything and it was quite a mess. Note to self -don't travel with Mexican food again. We replated everything and tried to salvage it. The tamal was okay but honestly pretty dry. The flautas were very flavorful but also very oily and heavy. My mom said her enchiladas were "just ok" and my burrito was nothing really to rave about, and the guac was metallic and pretty slimy. Prices were decent, parking and seating was plentiful, and serving sizes were large, but the food was just very underwhelming and not at all was I was hoping for. I'm not sure what region of Mexico their cuisine represents, but it's not one that I really enjoy very much. I think however for large families or people looking for the best bang for their buck, this might be a really excellent place to get a lot of food for a lot of people. For me however I would rather have a smaller plate with more intense flavors and better seasonings than a large plate of sort of mediocre food... But again, that's just me. read more

Not served on ice btw. The shrimp and octopus mix was drowned in cocktail sauce. It's all you could really taste. The ceviche was the only thing on the plate that wasn't bad. We went in about an hour before closing and just beat the rush of people coming in to order or grab their take out orders, but it only took 10-15 minutes to get our to go order. Ordered the 2 flauta meal about $8, delicious and large portions. 2 of the largest flautas I have ever seen, and a heaping helping of guac and sour cream too. Ordered the steak quesadilla, about $10 and 4 large slices. Phenomenal, tastes great, and a heaping helping of guac and sour cream too. I was worried it was not going to be enough when I ordered but to my surprise there was a ton of food. Wish it came with some chips though.
