The Mrs. and I had breakfast this morning at Vallarta Factory. We had originally stopped by the River Cafe because I wanted their Machaca but only a buffet was being offered because it was Mexican Mother's Day. Once we arrived at Vallarta Factory we were seated by David who was also our server. Vallarta Factory is a coffee shop, a wine bar, a bakery, and a restaurant. Cigars are also sold as well as chocolate. The menu has several options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Mrs. ordered the eggs Benedict with bacon instead of ham. Instead of being the eggs and bacon being placed on an English muffin it was placed on what looked like a biscuit. The eggs were slightly overcooked but the Mrs. enjoyed it. I ordered the Machaca and after having the Vallarta Factory version I don't need to return to River Cafe. Both the eggs Benny and the Machaca came with side of sautéed potatoes. I ordered a cup of regular coffee which was rich and the Mrs. ordered Mexican Coffee which she enjoyed. The only negative thing I do have to mention is that David seemed a little short with us. We decided this place because it looked welcoming when we walked by Food: 2/5 My family ordered some of the fish and enjoyed it but my brother and I shared the Mexican platter and it wasn't good. The food tasted like it had been overcooked and then reheated the next day in a microwave. I would not recommend this place for food. Let me start off by saying that I'm not a coffee drinker. We were in the Zona Romantica to do some souvenir shopping and ended up stumbling upon this place as we were hot and the other half wanted an iced coffee. Upon entering, I felt a cold blast of air and I was already in heaven. After being in the sweltering heat and humidity it was a welcome change of atmosphere. The inside is very nicely decorated and we were greeted by a friendly staff member. I ordered a lemonade and both of our drinks came and they were both great and refreshing. She went and got a chocolate as they have hand-made chocolates and I ended up getting a piece of lime cheesecake after seeing another patron eating some pie and it looked good. The lime cheesecake was heavenly. It tasted almost like a key lime pie and was so good. Easily the best dessert I had in my entire stay in Puerto Vallarta. We ended up getting some coffee beans to take back home too. Overall, I'd give this place 5 stars. The prices were reasonable and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I guess you could say that I am not a fan of this place. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't WAY overpriced and if it wasn't so highly rated. We ordered a margahrita pizza, pesto tagliatelle shrimp pasta and a couple beers. The pizza was (270 pesos) cold, rock hard, and flavorless. The tomatoes were cold. The crust was like eating saltines without salt. The cheese was meager. The pasta (300 pesos) had little flavor except the massive amount of black pepper, tons of paprika, and the foul shellfish flavor on the very salty shrimp. Mediocre cigar shop at best. 80% of selection was their own brand which were definitely subpar. The few offerings of real Cuban cigars were very expensive which to be fair is not unusual. Havana cigar is a much better offering. read more

Our group stopped by here when we were in the area checking out cuale river island and church of our lady of Guadalupe and it was such an amazing find! Our group got coffees and chocolates. The passion fruit dark chocolate was our absolute favorite. We bought some to go, and I'll be thinking about this chocolate for a long time it was so good. This was the most over-priced tourist trap I visited in Puerto Vallarta. It really should be avoided because everything here is done better (and cheaper) elsewhere. Quality: 2 Value: 1 Service: 3 Ambience: 2 First, the cigar shop - the prices were even higher than the spots along the beach. The selection was not great. Second, the caffe de olla (coffee from the pot) "traditional Mexican coffee" was tragically weak. Third, the chocolates were good, but, and this leads to my next complaint.... Fourth, the "Factory" part of this place suggests you can see how things are made, or at least learn about that - that's not the case. It's literally just an overpriced place where they try to sell you low quality versions of "local" products at a high price. Instead, avoid Gringo Gulch altogether and hit up the Rio Cuale Markets (on the little island where River Cafe is) or stroll along the El Malecon, plus one street over from Malecon. read more

I had read great reviews and seen Youtube videos recommending Vallarta Factory, so we had to check it out. We walked there on a hot day and looked forward to something cold and refreshing to cool us down. We loved the eclectic, interesting decor and inviting ambience of the café. We weren't sure whether to order at the counter or wait for someone to come up to our table. I spoke to the person at the counter and he took or order and told us to have a seat. We decided upon a couple of mocha frappuccinos, not realising how fancy they would be, topped with whipped (cream? topping?). They were served in large glasses with chocolate drizzle inside the glass and they were absolutely delicious. The server and other staff were friendly and helpful. The washrooms are in the other side of the restaurant, so you have to pass the kitchen staff to get there. Good coffee. The pastries were not as good. The coconut cheesecake was dry and we left 2/3 of it. The cupcake was decent. We didn't try the chocolate because they require you to buy a minimum of 10 pieces. The kitchen staff was working without an AC, which was not great as it was a very hot day. This is one of my favorite places in PV. I look forward to going there at least once if not more on every visit to PV. I love the outdoor seating especially because we come from Colorado and any opportunity to be outside is a bonus. However if you are opposed to people smoking you may want to sit inside - I don't care so it's always a table on the patio. Another reason I personally enjoy the patio is because of the people we have gotten to talk to and get some local recommendations like a farmers market. Or the awesome couple from Canada who had just moved their and where telling us their experience with getting a drivers license. We originally found this gem because we had shopped till we were ready to drop and I was dying for an ice coffee. Since that first time we now make special trips here for breakfast each trip - my personal favorite is the champions breakfast. I love the variety of the menu and the portions. That variety extends to the coffees - Mexican coffee, lattes, etc Also feel free to have a cocktail with your meal they have a full bar. Also even with a bit of a language barrier I have always been able to get answers to any questions. In addition I have asked for recommendations and am never disappointed. My hussband and friends have all bought cigars here to take home. They do an exceptional job with their packaging and my husband loves talking to the owner and getting recommendations based on his personal likes in a cigar. This is just one of four business the family owns and operates - I haven't tried any of the others but I look forward to eventually getting to one or two of them. read more

This is a must for anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta. Excellent food and service with a unique and enjoyable atmosphere and location. Breakfast was phenomenal with delicious French toast and we also had a really good vegetable omelette. Coffee is some of the best I've had as well. They also have a really good lunch and dinner menu along with several great wines and a full bar. I enjoyed the Tempranillo blend and my wife had the Malbec which was also really good. Don't miss out on a good dessert also as they have several great choices including gelato and coconut pie which I found was spectacular. They also have terrific chocolates and If cigars are your thing this is also the place. Stopped by here for a second time to purchase more chocolates to bring back home. They have different chocolate products, and I wanted to get them all- unfortunately, there's only so much room in my luggage. They have different types of delicious chocolates to choose from (dark and milk chocolates), as well as various products like: hot cocoas, caramelized cocoa beans, and even lotions (yes, chocolate lotion). As we walking along the Flea Market, saw this place on the corner and decided to give it a try. Love the vibe that this place gives, makes me think of a modern cowboy saloon. They're tables are those Cooper looking tables and chairs are distressed leather. Staff are all friendly and very helpful! I tried the mint rain smoothie which was very refreshing and their chocolate banana cake was to die for. They also served breakfast, lunch and dinner.
