Great service... Great food...Awesome drinks. Seafood platters are really tasty. Filete Vallarta, Shrimps a la Espania OMFG just thinking about it!!!!! People are extremely atentative and keep the drinks flowing. It's one of those whole in the walls.... You pass by it and don't think much about it. But when you step inside it's a whole new world, and that's not just the Cadillac Margarita talking. The kids ate everything on there plates and enjoyed the attention. If I could give a 0 star I would but unfortunately, I am unable. I went to this place with my father on our way to Ventura. To start the service was horrible. The food on the other hand was decent but definitely not amazing. My father and I were the only two people in the restaurant that day, it was a Sunday and around 11am. I would have given a three star but the kicker is that one of their staff is a thief. This is not a maybe but a fact. After we had eaten, we left the restaurant got in the car and noticed that my Dad did not have his phone. We must have looked in the car for two minutes then I tried calling it to see if we could hear it, maybe it dropped in the seat when he sat down. It rang until voicemail, so I called it again. After two rings, it got sent to voicemail (meaning someone made it go to voicemail). After that, it was off. I went back into the restaurant and told the waitress that we left our phone at our booth. By this time, there was another couple that were seated but their table was far from ours. When I got to our booth, the table was cleaned/bussed. So I told the waitress that someone took our phone. They called the buss boy over and he said he had not seen it. That's funny cause the waitress and buss boy were the only people in the restaurant at the time excluding the cook which we never saw and I do not believe the cook would walk the tables. So long story short, their staff stole my fathers $1200 apple IPhone. This place sucks, I would recommend to try another Mexican restaurant since Ventura County has many, many to choose from. Check it out if you want decent food, horrible service and possible have something stolen from your table. read more

After visiting the Fillmore Historical Society Museum and antique shops, the owner at Heart & Soul recommended Vallarta before we head back to the SFV. This unassuming place really hit the spot. It was Taco Tuesday, and happy hour. I was driving so I didn't get to try one of their special margaritas but I ordered three different kinds of tacos thinking the would be tiny and more like street/party cart tacos. I was wrong. They were super filling and delicious. The others in the group loved their soups and they both raved about their combination plates. The service is great, it's not a huge place but I can tell the atmosphere must be great when it's full of happy customers. I have to thank the locals for recommending this place. A hole in the wall/mom & pop/family business is always more appealing to me, so try Vallarta next time you're in the area. It's worth the drive (or stopover before your next journey). read more

First time here and while the wait for the food took a bit longer than ideal, they kept chips and salsa full so not a huge bummer. My buddy had the chile verde burrito combo and I had the large chile colorado burrito. He said his was good, but mine was one of the best chile colorado burros I've had in many years. I was out sight seeing in the Fillmore area and decided to have some lunch with my daughter and son. We found this restaurant through Yelp. The service was prompt and nonfriendly. We ordered two Horchata's and a lemonade. The drinks were over well over $10. This way too much for drinks! We ordered #2 and #3 from the combination menu. The carnitas taco was flavorful and a lot of meat and nothing else. No cheese or lettuce. They offered Pico De Gallo but it wasn't very good. The enchilada was bland and not very spicy. The rice had no flavor and the beans were not good. The salsa was fresh but no flavor or spicy. My daughter ordered the fried shrimp platter. The shrimp was good, but everything else was OK. Our bill was $60 for three people. The prices at this restaurant are on the high side. I would expect a lot more from the food for this price. I would not visit this restaurant again. read more

Please leave all pretense at the door! This place is a family owned restaurant with great service and friendly atmosphere. This is a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant in a small town. Uh, yeah! Great food and great service. My wife is from Medical, Baja California Norte, Mexico, and there is nothing she dislikes more than "fake" Mexican restaurants (she's so funny). Essentially that means any Mexican restaurant that uses food, drink, or salsas from a can; and, apparently too much cheese, which she says is just done for the Gringos. Just had the coctel campechana and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had - anywhere. The guacamole and salsas were also very good. The price is much lower than el pescadors so you get more bang for your buck without all of the wait and madness of el pescador. Highly recommend this place. read more

They are open for dine-in now!!!! We had the one item combo $9.99 of chile relleno, rice and beans and it was delicious. It came with a large side salad and we really appreciated that the chile relleno is not over battered and that the refried beans are are made with vegetable oil. The complimentary chips and salsa that they serve has a mild salsa but be sure to ask for the spicy salsa to add to it. We're looking forward to our next visit. read more

Came out to Fillmore to buy some fireworks. I saw this place and yelped it. Decided to give it a try based on the reviews. What did these people eat? I ordered Carne Asada Tampequena. First off, it's not even flank steak. They use diesmillo which is the least quality steak available. On top of that, it wasn't seasoned or marinated at all. My husband and I took our girls to Fillmore on Sunday to go buy fireworks for the 4th of July. While we were there I told my husband that I was going to ask the girls in the booth where the best Mexican restaurant in town was. I asked and they pointed across the street to Vallarta. We thanked them, put our loot in the car, and headed across the street. Boy were we glad that we did! We walked in and were seated almost instantly by a wonderful host who also happened to be our waiter. First up, cocktails! Since it has been hottter than hell in Ventura County we decided to get a couple of margaritas. Our daughters who are 3 and 41/2 were starting to get a little antsy because of the heat and started to act up a little. Next thing we know our drinks are in front of us. Our waiter (who's name is Hugo btw) left them at our table with a "I figured you guys probably need these". He was absolutely right! The margaritas were some of the best that we have ever had. The ingredients are made by scratch and super refreshing. Hugo, our waiter made our experience one of the best that i've had at a restaurant. He was polite, cheerful, and just an all around nice guy. Having waitressed myself back in the day, I know how important it is to have a server who is both kind, and on it! The food at this place is tasty and authentic. I am not a huge rice and beans fan but decided to get the flautas with rice and beans. The rice and beans kicked butt! While I was ordering Hugo suggested that I get one of each (beef and chicken) which was an excellent call. The food was piping hot and fresh. My husband got carne asada and it was to die for! What a wonderful family restaurant! The place has been around for a long time and I can see why it has staying power. The staff was kind, the drinks (we ended up getting another margarita ;) ) were sooo good, and the food was killer. We will be going back, not only for the wonderful food, but also to see our new BFF Hugo! If you are ever in Fillmore do not leave town until you eat at Villarta. My husband and I used to live in Fillmore and ate here every once in a while. We went there on the way home from Oxnard and we were craving Mexican food. I usually have the Carnitas, which were pretty good here, but trying to stay away from red meat, I decided to have the tilapia dish cooked with shrimp and scallops. (I can't remember the actual name) My husband had his go-to favorite, Chili Verde, he said it was good, but that he's had better, and that it used to BE better. Mine was awful! The fish tasted like dirt and was kinda mushy. The shrimp was small and dry and overcooked. The scallops (?) were little rubbery squares of something that tasted like they were soaked in lemon. To drink I ordered the coconut margarita, it was so awful and salty that I couldn't taste the coconut or the tequila, it tasted like a bad mix instead of a real mixed drink. (where's the triple sec and lime for crying out loud?) I ended up giving the drink to my husband, who likes salty things...he didn't finish it. When the waiter asked us how the food was, I told him that the fish was horrible and that it tasted rotten, he didn't comment, but removed my uneated food and promptly brought us the check, he didn't come back for our payment. We went up to the register and when the guy there asked us how the food was, I told him that the fish was bad and that it tasted rotten. He was surprised and fumbled around with the menu to look for the price, then charged us full price and didn't say he was sorry. We will miss this spot, but will not be going back, El Pescador is down the street and is 1000% better than Vallarta. read more

Nice warm chips and good chunky salsa, did not like their Albondigas soup, wonderful Chili Colorado, did not like the Asada it had a burnt taste, loved the homemade tortillas, and the Corona and lime was a great thirst quencher.
