Then I worked up my courage at the kitchen and asked the guy if he could help me, because I had no idea what I was looking at, but it all looked and smelled amazing! He was so sweet and after asking, if we were vegetarians, which we weren't, he then gave us samples of two of the most popular dishes. These were both stews and had such a complexity of flavor. One is with ground walnuts, and pomegranate juice and small little meatballs, and the other was this amazing mix of herbs and greens and fava beans, which I might not normally choose, but tasted great! We ended up getting containers of those and then tried a couple different types of the rice. One had dill and other herbs in it, while the other one seemed to have lentils and maybe raisins? Once again, so good. We also got a quarter chicken and he packed them all up. It comes with this wonderful yogurt, herbed condiment. Our only mistake was not also picking up some flatbread to go with it. I picked up a chopped cucumber and tomato salad, and it's great because they have the dressing separated inside the container so it doesn't get soggy. Yes, like most places in Encino parking is going to be interesting! Their parking is directly in front of their entrance and at first it didn't look like there was anything, but then we realize there actually was. I found everybody friendly, even had some very lovely woman recommend some of the nuts and seeds to us. Speaking of which they have an enormous selection of both. I had no idea there were so many different types of sunflower seeds to name just one of the selections. In retrospect, I should've gotten some cookies! We will definitely be back, I would think it would be a great place to stock up and treat friends to an interesting set of new tastes. If you're vegetarian, they have an enormous selection as well.

That same evening, my 14-year-old son and I both got sick -- diarrhea and stomach cramps within hours of eating it. When I examined the packaging I understood why: the store had placed their own label showing a February 2026 packing date directly over the manufacturer's original sticker, which clearly showed a December 2025 production date. That is a 3-month-old deli meat product sold as fresh. When I returned to the store and raised this with the manager, he was immediately defensive, dismissive of the date discrepancy, and showed zero concern that two people had become ill after eating his product. I have filed formal complaints with the USDA Meat & Poultry division and LA County Environmental Health. I have photographic evidence of both date labels. Shop here at your own risk -- and check carefully what is underneath those price stickers.

This is one of the few Mitsuwa that doesn't have a food court (San Gabriel is another one without). The premade food section was surprisingly pretty good, better options than the Torrance or Santa Monica locations, imo. They do carry the same poke bowl that is also sold at Torrance. The store closes at 9:00pm, so the premade food section is pretty much cleared out and the self checkout is closed by around 8:00pm. The late hours actually got the busiest because only one staffed cash register was open and customers had to get in line instead of the self checkout. The store is clean and spacious, lots of self checkouts that are open during the day, and the bathrooms were clean (just need to get the code from a staff member!). I came three times on a weekday, once a little after lunch and another right around 5:30 and then around 8:00. Parking was a breeze every time. They have plenty of parking adjacent to the store. The other side of the shopping center gets a little busy, but Mitsuwa is at the comfortable corner closest to the train tracks. Getting out of the parking lot can be challenging because Tampa is a busy street and some people try to make a left turn out (I have my opinions about that lol). If heading out towards CSUN, the shopping center also has two exits out to Nordhoff so that worked well for me. I was in the area for a few job interviews... If I am hired nearby I'm definitely coming to this Mitsuwa a lot :)

I typically get this butter at the grove but this place has sooo many varieties. I also picked up Italian flour (to make pizza dough) and canned pizza sauce that they recommended. Even though I don't buy non organic potatoes it's a great price for people that do. Apples 79c peaches 1.29 a pound which I stocked up on to freeze once they are ripe. I got bags of cherries for $1.29 a pound. Sweet and juicy cherries. I especially love the bulk section of dried fruits and nuts here. I always buy the dried fruits that are imported from Armenia such as sour plum, peach, apricots, pears and more. Love it They carry a wide selection of imported rice, legumes, pastas, olives etc.... Two isles of bread from pita to lavash to tortillas to ciabatta and more. The deli is amazing but I'm not crazy about the meat department. Customer service is average for a supermarket and finding parking here is always challenging. Overall a great place to shop for food specially for large families that want to save a bit of money.

Non-responsibly he struck his shoulders so I walked over to produce Manager and asked can they bring out fresh tangerines since the bin was empty. He said fine in 10 minutes. I continued with my shopping and 20 minutes later I came in and the bin was still empty so I went over to Martin and as I couldn't find the produce manager, I asked can they fill the bin he says when I get around to it so I walked over, found the produce manager, and I asked for the tangerines to be filled. The produces Manager went and ask Martin to do that. exactly 2 minutes later he walks up to the tangerine bin and tells me why did you go and asked the mgr for Tangerines? I told you I will get to it when I get to it. I told him that I had a doctors appointment that I've been waiting for 20 minutes and I'd like to finish my shopping to which he responded well we don't work around the customers schedule we work whenever we want to. This has left such a bad taste in my mouth and so contrary to my experience in Northridge. I hope the store manger pays attention to Martin and his lack of customer service attitude.

While the West Valley location is small and hushed, with dark woods and muted lighting, the OG Mercado is the exact opposite: big and bright, with a bustling edge in the air as the staff navigates between eat-in diners, people ordering take-out, and still others buying items from their meat, pastry, and cheese displays. Yes, it's a real market and restaurant in one, and the energy is palpable as you browse the large menu, knowing everything is going to be very fresh and cooked to order. It's always difficult to decide between a Choripan or Steak Milanesa sandwich, but today I opted for the Choripan -- and while I deleted the lettuce & tomato that's usually on top, I added grilled onions. As I waited, I was brought fresh-baked Argentine baguette, which was crusty on the outside and pillowy on the inside, with just a touch of chew. The bread is served, of course, with Chimichurri, but also a tomato & olive oil salsa of sorts that had a light and veggie-forward flavor that offered a nice contrast to the earthy, herbaceousness of the chimi. I've learned the hard way to no overindulge on the bread and sauces, so I pulled back after one piece -- and luckily, my sandwich arrived soon after. This is a hefty Choripan, demonstrably larger than what I've had at the sister location. A very plump, butterflied and charred Argentine sausage resting on more of that bangin' baguette (the chewy center offering solid support for the fillings), and a generous helping of grilled onions. There was a patina of "grease" on the sandwich, but that's not a bad thing -- this slight oiliness was packed with flavor, adding tremendous Argentine Umami to the meal. The sausage was meaty and dense, with just a bit of fat and a very nice punch of herbs and spices, leading to an enjoyably potent flavor very specifically South American. The onions were excellently prepared: grilled to a medium firmness, the chef bringing out the natural sweetness while retaining just enough of the original, onion bite to add extra layers of taste. As if that wasn't enough, the onions were clearly cooked in a bit of spice, which gave them an extra kick of heat that blended very nicely with the spiciness of the chimichurri. This is just an excellent sandwich. Service is friendly, the entire restaurant is spic & span clean (including the restrooms), and the crowd seems genuinely happy to be where they are, eating what they're eating. The meats, cheeses, pastries, breads and empanadas on display in the market areas all look top notch and very appealing. I'll be shopping here for things to make at home, and I'll be coming back for another dine-in meal very soon. If you haven't been, you should stop by to try it for yourself. It's just so, so good!

While this plaza has a parking lot large enough to serve all shoppers, parking is a pain. Every spot is so skinny... you'll often find lines of SUVs parked every other spot just because of how narrow it is. My favorite time to come is generally the evenings, since there are often deals at the bakery (BOGO) and hot foods. Note, however, that the quality of the hot deli has decreased over time. The portions used to be larger, but the food now tastes overseasoned (too salty, too sweet, etc) and almost as if it has sat out for a while, too - at least on a Sunday night.
