Gelson has a great selection of unique products and items. Angie provided friendly, excellent service and encouraged me to sign up for their rewards membership--she deserves special recognition. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store is spacious and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Safe ambiance especially at night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thank you, God bless!

The prices in store are outrageous. They have the same products as other stores, but for the double the prices. On the day I visited, employees were not friendly at all. No greeting or acknowledging the customer. I have been to other Gelson's locations and I was amazed by their customer service. I would give five stars to the deli selection. They had a variety of packages meat, salads and sandwiches to purchase. I also give five stars to the bakery selection. They had a variety of bread, pastries, cookies to purchase. This location has a private parking lot which is a plus since it's located on a busy side of the city. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a seating area outside for people to sit and enjoy their sandwiches/food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Good, reliable store. This place has a wide selection of quality products. The service here is great! All of the employees are so nice and helpful. The only down side to this place is it's a little pricey. Especially the meat. It was 18 dollars for one pound! Overall, good store and I'll shop here again if I'm ever in LA.

    The daikon I "stole"

I genuinely question how this store is still open. I came in to buy daikon that's it. Anyone who's ever bought one knows it's long, awkward, and barely fits on those tiny self-checkout scales. I grabbed two daikons, put them in a produce bag, weighed them, and the scale read 1.60 pounds. I paid almost $6, which is already absurd for produce that isn't even especially fresh. While I'm checking out, the self-checkout attendant rushes over and starts mumbling something along the lines of "Look... look what you did," without clearly explaining the issue. She could barely communicate what was supposedly wrong, yet the tone was accusatory, as if I were trying to steal over a fraction of a pound of daikon. What makes this even more ridiculous is this: If I were actually trying to steal produce, why would I put the daikon in a produce bag AND then pay an extra $0.10 for a paper grocery bag? If I were being dishonest or "cheap," why would I voluntarily make myself pay more? The interaction was humiliating and completely unnecessary. Instead of clearly and politely explaining how to place an awkward item on the scale, the employee chose to publicly shame a customer over something trivial without even being able to communicate the issue properly. If you're going to charge premium, upscale prices especially on Ventura Blvd in Encino, where you're clearly trying to project a "bougie" image then the customer experience needs to match that. That includes staff who can communicate clearly, act professionally, and handle minor checkout issues without embarrassing customers. High prices, mediocre produce, and poor customer service don't mix. If this store wants to position itself as upscale, it needs to start acting like it.

These ladies- Natalie, the baker at Viktor Benes absolutely made the BEST and prettiest cake for my daughter's 10th birthday! I showed them a picture and what they made was even prettier and better tasting than we imagined! They did such a great job in a short amount of time and we were so pleased and grateful for their help and hard work!! Thanks again guys for being the best bakers in this area for fine cakes and desserts for sure! :)

I ordered Instacart from this location and the bagels that arrived had some sort of disgusting moldy growth on them. I filed a complaint with Instacart but also called the manager and he was barely apologetic. Basically said you have to call Instacart to get a credit and he'll check the rest of the bagels but has never heard of this happening before. I insisted on sending a photo. I shop here all the time and for the insane prices they should be significantly more concerned about selling molded rotten food.

I am not a Gelson's shopper. It typically is way too overpriced for me and I just rather go to trader joe's or sprouts. That being said I was looking into getting a cake for an engagement party and from all the options we got pricing from Gelsons and it was *relatively* reasonable. It was mostly convenient location wise and so we went with it! Subtracted one star for pricing. I wanted a simple buttercream cake, minimalistic, with small dainty flowers/olive branch on it and we got just that. We added the olive branch ourselves and bought the flower from them. They were punctual and gave me the exact cake I wanted. For the flavor I got strawberries and cream. As someone who does NOT like cake and really thinks of it as more of a prop I can honestly say it was the best cake I have had. The entire cake finished with no pieces left, something that has never happened before. It was light, fluffy, and delicious. Overall, very much enjoyed the cake and would order again.

    Poke Bar!

Came here on the way home and noticed parking can be real tight, but luckily there were several spaces available. It was very clean store and there were enough cashiers to keep the lines moving. We had just come back from a visit to Hawaii and I was craving poke again. I was fortunate that they had a poke bar available here and was briefly brought back to paradise upon every mouthwatering bite. All ingredients were fresh and I was content to enjoy this meal outside of the store on such a nice, sunny day. I have always been happy to come here to try out the fresh food and just take all the market vibes in. Everyone here was courteous and I believe that this has been consistent throughout all the visits I had!

I ordered a the Dom and a supremo on their website at about 1:30pm on a Friday. It was ready at 2:30, which seemed like a crazy long wait for a sandwich, especially considering the place was empty when I got there. But alas. I wonder if it would have been quicker for me to just go in and order in person. Anyway, the wait (and 30 minutes of wandering around target to kill time) was worth it. The supremo - it's basically a slice of pepperoni cheese bread. Which is delicious. My late uncle's friend used to make us a pepperoni bread every year at Christmas and try as I might, I could never make it as good as hers. This one is closer than I've gotten! They forgot the side of Marinara for dipping, though, but it's fine because I have no chill and inhaled this thing on the drive home. While I was expecting something a little bigger based on the photo and the price, it was tasty and I would prooooobably get it again. The Dom - the real reason I'm here: a sandwich! I asked them to swap out the provolone for pepper jack, as I do not like provolone. The ratio of all the ingredients was spot on! The bread was soft with a little chew. Everything was fresh. Sandwich was a good size overall. 10/10, would eat again. Excited to go back to try a pizza or maybe a meatball sub or lasagna!

My husband purchased several knishes from Mort's Deli. We understood these to be meat knishes based upon how they were described and priced. After bringing them home and cutting them open, we discovered that they were not true meat knishes, but rather potato-and-meat knishes. Had the product been accurately described, we would not have purchased it. We specifically sought meat knishes and paid the corresponding price (see the receipts attached). When I contacted the store to address the issue, employee Kate maintained that the potato-and-meat knish should nevertheless be considered a meat knish. Regardless of the terminology used internally by the store, the product was not what we reasonably understood we were purchasing. The situation became even more troubling when I repeatedly requested copies of the receipts. During the course of the dispute, I was informed that the receipts were not accessible. However, the receipts were ultimately produced and later emailed to me as ordered by the police. Notably, the receipts explicitly identified the product as a "Brisket Knish" and reflected the corresponding charge. The receipts therefore became an important part of understanding how the product had been represented and sold. Rather than resolving the matter promptly and professionally, manager Gail continued to escalate the situation unnecessarily. Ultimately, Gail instigated the calling of law enforcement to the store. Two police officers responded to the scene. Following their investigation, the store was ordered by the police to produce the receipts. The police officers became involved in what should have been a routine customer-service matter. With their assistance, the receipts were eventually produced after previously being misrepresented as inaccessible. What makes this experience particularly upsetting is that my husband is severely disabled, partially paralyzed, and walks with a cane. What should have been a simple request for fair treatment escalated into an unnecessary confrontation involving law enforcement. The needless inconvenience, travel, physical burden, and emotional distress inflicted upon both my husband and me were unfair and unjustifiable. As loyal customers, we found the entire experience shocking and disturbing. We sent the store owner an email detailing the incident but the owner never responded.

The Antidote delivery was close by, but let me tell you I had difficulty finding it. I want to make sure that others are aware of the challenge because it is definitely worth it. The issue is the signage. I was confident when I walked in and told Arthur, the gentleman behind the counter, that there was no sign, indicating Antidote Delivery, he politely corrected me. It turns out that next to the "market" sign there is an exclamation mark Which shows antidote delivery. My eyes went right over it and I never saw it, as a result I found myself circling around, trying to find the correct location. Once you find it, you may be hesitant to enter thinking that this is just a liquor store. In fact, this market has been here for 25 years and they prepare a fresh submarine sandwich that is delicious. So here is what you need to know upfront, the ambience is not desirable, so plan on a takeout. But if you're looking for a local business with a fresh delicious submarine sandwich, I would give this a try. Arthur was very kind to explain that they do deliveries within 5 miles for $2.99. So if you live within 5 miles you can order your sandwich and have it delivered. It's convenient because it's also a liquor store. You can order anything else at the same time and have that included for that nominal fee. It's always nice to support local places, this feels like a family business but I didn't ask so I'm not sure. One thing I'm certain of, I will be returning.
