AMAZING GROUP AND OFFICE! This was my first visit outside of Kaiser and Lens Crafters and they were outstanding! The entire process ran smoothly and Dr. Joyce was such a joy to be around and super personable. He explained my astigmatism to me and I got to see a picture of my eye and an in depth explanation of how everything is intertwined and WOW... what an experience. Beats the traditional office visit of not knowing anything about your eye care. The front staff was accommodating, friendly and helpful from the moment I entered the building until I left. The professionalism was exceptional. Mallory helped me with finding glasses and placing my order. She was very professional and smiley. I was not a patient at this office but recently moved up to valley center and was having only half vision in my left eye. I didn't know why and was concerned so called the office and they got me in that day at 4pm. Dr. Joyce was amazing, told me I had a detached retina and needed to have it fixed asap! He was so caring and went above and beyond calling until after 8pm trying to find me a surgeon. I wasn't able to use his recommendation as I am on sharp, but without him letting me know the importance of getting it fixed asap I could have lost my vision. He even called to check on me to make sure I got in. After I completely heal from my surgeries I will definitely be using Dr. Joyce for new glasses!!! Thank you thank you!!!! read more

This place is a RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had an eye exam today July 13, 2023. The ass clown kid working at the counter wanted to charge me $1,772 for four pairs of lenses. I had my frames, just needed new prescription. Went to Kaiser Optometry and got the same four pairs of lenses for $532. Dr. Joyce's office is a joke. NEVER going back there. He prescribed me an anti-fatigue lens, (yes, I said anti-fatigue.. no, not progressive) and I'll never go back. It's exactly what I explained that I was looking for. I sit in front of a computer monitor all day, and it takes a toll on my eyes. His team made sure to let me know about all my warranties. I'm even able to try my glasses out for a full 90 days and take them back for any adjustments on the prescription needed. Does it get easier than that? I recently took a trip into Valley Center Optometry for the first time in a while, I realized I've forgotten how much better the experience is then that of the Costco or Walmart vision centers. They really went the extra mile to make sure I was taken care of carefully and completely. For me it always seems like a big life decision when it comes to picking out a new pair of glasses, and sometimes I dread the process, but everyone there made it enjoyable. I got a lot of help from Noah that day who was helping me pick out a pair of glasses because most of the time a second opinion is really helpful. I got some prescription sunglasses on this trip as well and I'm extremely happy about them. Dr. Joyce was also amazing, he kept me informed on everything he was looking at in regards to my eye health, and how they are changing over time. He is a very considerate guy who actually makes you feel like you are important which is refreshing when considering other clinics that just want you in and out the door. I waited weeks for an appointment after a referral from the VA. Called the VA who stated the office had my referral for over three weeks so we conferenced called them. Office says " there's nothing on my desk we don't have his (meaning mine) paperwork". The VA says "I have a successful Fax report". Lady says okay let me put you on hold. After several minutes she comes back on and says " oh you're still here, thing is we had a payment issue with another VA referral". VA says "are you saying you don't want to see him?" She responds "it's better for him to go somewhere else, I know there's a clinic in Lake Elsinore". Lake Elsinore, what the hell? As an 18 year resident of VC I try my hardest to give my business to our local businesses. Sometimes they don't make it easy. Well they made this decision easy. Not bad getting in a little EyeCandy while I get my eyes checked :) Of course as I am driving into valley center I loose one of my contacts (of my last pair-last eye exam was about a year ago) I quickly pull over the side road-look up optometrist in Valley Center and this place came up-I called, explained my dilema-they got me in right away. The staff was incredibly helpful-Joseph is incredibly knowledgeable and professional and helped me pick out a pair of Hot Coach Sunglasses that compliment my face. These are the first pair of sunglasses that I actually love. I've always been the one to spend $20 on sunglasses-because A.I don't ever think I look good in sunglasses B. I always loose them. C. Or I break them.... Joseph I promise I won't leave them at the beach, restaurant, bar, or sit on them! Dr. Eye Candy....I mean Dr. Joyce was incredibly personable and professional I also loved the ambiance of their office-I have to say I was quite Surprised at how cool the decor/ambiance of the office was. Slightly overdue but I came here a year and a half ago and saw a doctor. She was super nice but told me that my current glasses prescription was "too strong" for distance. I politely disagreed and let her know my concerns. She prescribed me a new prescription for "progressive" lenses. I really didn't think I needed 2 different prescriptions. The sales people were pushy. I have been incredibly unhappy with the prescription. I called and let them know a few weeks after and they told me to wait a month for my eyes to adjust. I called back and then they told me I waited to long. I just got done with a real professional eye doctor who informed me my eyes should have never been in progressive lenses and there are only a few real necessary scenarios where people need them. He also said I did need a slightly stronger prescription for distance than what was given by this doctor, which I even told her! Needless to say PLEASE consider seeing a different eye doctor!! I've been in the wrong glasses for over a year, I wish I could go back in time and listen to my gut. I have been getting massive migraines and it's from having an inexperienced doctor give me the wrong prescription! Please consider all your options, for your eyesight you want the best, most knowledgeable staff. read more

I have been going to Dr. Joyce for over 10 years. He and his staff are all AMAZING! Dr. Joyce one of the most honest and knowledgeable Dr.'s I have gone to. As I am almost blind without my contacts or glasses it's really important for me to have as clear of vision as possible. I have never had the confidence to wear glasses. After 40 years of wearing contacts they took all the extra time I need to find the perfect pair. I loved them so much I ended up going back for 3 more pairs over this past year. It is really nice to be able to just walk in and be treated like a person and not just a customer. I can walk in any time and Dr. Joyce will come out even if it's just to say hi. Now Maria - well if you want to work with someone who has style and takes the time to work with you to find glasses that fit correctly and "you" feel like a million bucks in. Get an appointment with her. I love Gucci and the other designer brands but she will come out with a no name brand and tell me it fits and looks just as good as my favorite designer brand. So I have both because I love to wear glasses now! OK it's not costco or walmart I get it. But I need more then that in service, quality, and environment. I have been to both and there is no comparison "at least for me" to having your own personal Dr. and staff that make your vision their vision! The eye doctor did a great work but the staff that works in the office are pushy about buying glasses from there. Especially the lady with red hair she didn't let me look at the glasses. Instead she was just standing and picking glasses for me. I wanted to take my time i felt rushed . I had to ask for copy of my eyeglasses subscription. Let me start with 5 years ago I has Lasik surgery, and for the last 6 months Iv noticed my vision is a little blurry, So I checked Costco and Wal-mart if they accepted my insurance, No they did not. On a hunch I called the only Optometrist in the town I live, and what do you no, not only do they take my insurance they can see me in an hour. Sweet, within one apt. I have never experienced any office of any kind where the people were more friendly, caring and professional. I was way overdue for an eye exam so I chose Dr. Joyce as he's located in my town. In just a short time I walked out with contacts that are allowing me to see better than I ever did with glasses. I only wish Valley Center Optometry took care of more than vision..I'd go there for a heart transplant, if they did that kind of thing, confident that I'd walk out of there healthier than I'd ever been. We happened upon a free eye screening at Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch. My husband took my son to get his eyes checked for free. It was put on by the Lions Club of Valley Center. To my surprise we received a paper with a possible prescription that offered a free pair of glasses. My son is almost 3 and I never noticed any vision problems before so I was quite concerned. I called the referral office and the receptionist was very friendly and setup an appointment for me to bring my son in. We met with Dr. Joyce and I let him know how we wound up at his office. He instantly assured me that because of my son's age the testing apparatus may be skewed. Most likely my son being a 2 year old, focused on the camera examining his eyes and therefore caused the results we were given. Dr. Joyce also used his equipment to check for astigmatism, which he confirmed he didn't have. He also put some pictures up on the wall of animals and objects a toddler may recognize and by doing so was able to determine that in fact my son could see just fine. He mentioned that in the future it could be a possibility for near sightedness as it runs in my family, but as of now, my son's eyes are good to go! All this was free of charge with the form I received from the Lions club, but Dr. Joyce was so good with my son, I will be returning to his office if he should ever need another exam! My family and I have been going to see Dr. Joyce for several years now. Great doctor however, besides Margaret there is always a problem with the staff. Recently I phoned to make an appointment. Alejandra answered the phone. Margaret was out to lunch so Alejandra took my name and number stating she would give the message to Margaret upon her return from lunch. As I was saying Thank You, Alejandra asked me if the call was in regards to glasses or contacts. (? I had already stated it was in regards to making an appointment) I replied no and before I could remind her that it was in regards to an appointment she stated "Well then if it's not about glasses or contacts you can call her back yourself." I did phone back and to my disbelief Alejandra did NOT give her the message. To date I have left 3 messages for Dr. Joyce to phone me back to discuss this incident. I am yet to receive a call back. I decided to just not return to this office however, I had to phone back (Tuesday) as my lenses to my glasses are scratched and I do have a warranty on them. Again, Alejandra answered the phone. She stated that she would order the lenses. I then asked her if the lenses could be transitional and I would pay for them. She stated she would need to speak to Maria. I explained to her that approximately 3 months ago I asked Maria about the transitional lenses and she never phoned me back. (*I did not order the transitional when I originally ordered my glasses but asked Maria about it shortly after). I received a vm from Maria (Wednesday) regarding another issue that had already been resolved. So disappointed in the unprofessionalism, unprincipled, insolent and disorganized staff. Also, in re to the 02/27/19 review - YES, very pushy when it comes to the purchasing of glasses. The red headed lady is "Maria." In fact when I picked up my glasses (earlier this year) she so proudly boasted about how much money she has brought into the office with her sales techniques. She even showed me reports which reflected the amount of profit she had brought into the office as in comparison when she was not there. UNETHICAL!! With multiple failed attempts to resolve these issues it's unfortunate that I have to write this review. read more

The optometrist did a fantastic job. The problem however is the part where I pick out the frames I want. First the prices were triple what I found in other offices. The lens prices were double or more. When I told them I could find better prices the lady tried to instill fear that if I went anywhere else I wouldn't get the quality they had. This is a lie. I went to Costco I paid $86.00 with insurance I have. Their price was $369.00 out of pocket with the insurance I have. I got my glasses and the are perfect. I checked them over for quality and they are great. It makes me think that VC optometry is more of a glass selling company than an optometrist. The optometrist was very good but the treatment I got in the lobby was terrible. I will not go back there. read more

We lived in Oceanside, CA then moved to Phoenix, AZ and we have being making the drive to Valley Center Optometry every year to see Dr. Joyce. He has being our optometrist for the last 5 years. Our son who is now 15 yrs old has really bad vision and every optometrist prior to doctor Joyce had given him glass which were helping but Dr. Joyce gave him some special contacts that have given him the opportunity to get 20/20 vision.
