I am way overdue sharing my thoughts about De Un Amor in Corralitos…read more Our mother moved into the facility in mid 2019 after stays at some SNF's in the Santa Cruz/Watsonvile area. She was suffering from Parkinson's disease then had some falls resulting in to two incidences of broken hips. Needless to say, a really rough time previous to her arriving at De Un Amor, but once there things smoothed out greatly for her. I really can't say enough about how much we appreciated our mom being in such a pleasant place. The facility itself is bright and inviting; and the outside grounds with an orchard one side and a creek on the other is so very nice. The staff are all very kind, attentive and caring toward the residents and visitors. When I first visited De Un Amor I said to the owner, Trygve, "I want to live here"; to which he laughed and commented, "everyone says that." So in summation I guess the best I can say about the place is that I would be content to have my sunset there.

It is a gorgeous setting with views of the forest, creek and orchard. There are patios and areas to observe nature and relax and enjoy the outdoors. They have a music room with a grand piano and musical talent to enjoy. Mom enjoyed taking her meals with new friends she met there and always looked forward to their conversations. Although she was able to return home after an extended stay, we know we can return in the future if needed, and are happy we have our De Un Amor family!

Every time I came to visit my Dad I found Rachelle's home to be clean, swept and mopped, my Dad clean, well dressed and in good spirits. His room was always clean and orderly and all of his medication management was in good order. One time I came to pick up my Dad for a medical appointment and it had been pouring rain, the streets were muddy and there was a huge utility truck stuck on the street blocking the path to Rachelles Home. I parked the car on the side of the street to get out and come to get my Dad and here I see coming, in the pouring rain, Rachelle's husband and another caregiver wheeling my Dad over to me at the car holding an umbrella over him shielding him from the rain the whole way. They assisted me in getting him into the car and my Dad and I were off and away to his appointment. It was such an amazing sight and now an indelible memory in my mind. A few months later my Dad suffered from yet another stroke and was brought to the SJ Regional Stroke Center and then to Capitola Skilled Nursing for Rehabilitation. I had already decided that I wanted to bring my Dad home to care for him in his last years of life here on earth so I asked Rachelle if she'd support me in that and indeed she did. She set up a care and health account book for me, told me what to buy for his room and sent out her very own family and caregivers to care for my Dad those first two weeks. I came to Rachelle's Home to pick up my Dad's extremely heavy double size hospital medical bed which was no easy feat, however, Rachels right hand man Dex readily and diligently helped my son and I move it out on a dolly and load it up on the truck. We brought it over to my house and Dex helped us set it up for my Dad. This was such a blessing to me and I was so ever so grateful for his help! Now in regards to the care that my Dad first received from Rachelle's family and caregivers when he came home I have such good memories; Rachelle's son in law to be and administrator came at 6:30am every morning with an amazing attitude opening all the blinds up to let the sunshine in and all the mean while singing merrily while he prepared my Dad for the morning; He had an excellent spirit and I will always remember this. On another occasion, in these first two weeks of coming home from the skilled nursing, my Dad had a terrific case of loose bowels due to transitioning from a common nutritional formula to an organic one and Rachelle's son, whom was caring for my Dad and whose care my Dad appreciated very much, operated out of sheer grace in managing this outflow situation by humorously crying "It's a river! It won't stop!" He called for help at Rachelle's Home and in a short amount of time Rachelle's husband arrived to the rescue with help and aid. Rachelle, her family and her caregivers are humble and compassionate; They have always been there for my Dad and and I will always appreciate everything they have done for us!

She does lots of errands for us including shopping for groceries, driving the patient to the doctor, going to the pharmacy, taking her patient for a short walk or wheel chair ride in one of our lovely parks. Around home she takes care of bed making and laundry and some minor indoor and outdoor chores. She is also here midday so prepares lunch as well. She is very efficient and is always on time and completes her tasks in time to be sociable and friendly with her patient. As a result, the patient likes her caregiver very much. Prior to this caregiver, we had another who was just as lovely and caring and efficient. We have loved them both and would recommend them highly for any caregiver or other job. In addition , we can't say enough about Visiting Angels and its staff. They screen and train their caregivers well and are very cooperative and understanding if there has to be a change of schedule. They are Johnny on the spot about any necessary substitution. The office pkeep us informed by phone and always give us time to make decisions. We hired them because we heard all of these good things about them. Believe me, they do not disappoint.

Not knowing the first thing about these facilities, I reached out to Alan Brauner at Senior Seasons. I can't even begin to explain how helpful he was. He listened to our situation, provided me with insight and contact information on the local facilities, explained what I needed to know, and what to consider when reaching out to these prospective places. His advice was invaluable. He was always there for me, whenever I had questions. He was super responsive, emailing back or calling right away. And through this process my mom kept changing her mind about where she wanted to live (mid-peninsula near her friends, south bay near me), and so our requirements kept changing. Through it all Alan was patient and positive - something I really needed during this stressful time. I seriously have no idea how I would have handled this whole situation without him. I highly recommend Alan and Senior Seasons.
