It's located inside Phoenix Salon Suites, and even though it's a smaller space, it actually makes the whole experience feel more relaxed and semi-private. Everyone there is really focused on doing a great job, and you can tell they care about the details. Stephanie has done my nails for the past three visits, and I've loved them every time. She's amazing at shaping and filing, and always makes sure everything looks even and clean--without me having to say a thing. They've moved locations since my last review. They're currently in Phenix Salon which is closer to Sprouts and Burlington Coat Factory. When you enter go towards the left and it's the first door on your right. The other suite is at the end of that same hall. They currently have two suites but Stephanie said they're looking at another permanent location that's big enough to fit all their workers in. This setup in Phenix Salon is only temporary. Anyway, I came in at 10am on Saturday morning to get my nails done for Coachella. I showed Stephanie the strawberry nails that I wanted and she delivered!! Got a gel manicure and a higher tier pedicure and total for both was $110. I wish I got the name of my pedicurist because she did a really good job with scrubbing the dead skin and calluses off my feet. I was really disappointed by my experience with the service and quality of nails at this salon. I asked for round nails, and the technician working with me trimmed them down into square shapes. I repeatedly told her that I didn't prefer the squares, to which she responded that my nails were too short for anything round, and continued cutting them into squares. I kept pressing that I did not want a square shape, and after she had already cut all my nails down into the wrong shape, she eventually she caved and filed them into something more round. By then, they were much shorter than I would have liked. The technician applied three layers of gel, but unevenly - the beds of my nails were bumpy. She got some gel on my fingers and didn't wipe it off. The gel also started chipping within a couple of days, and all of it peeled off in a week. read more

I've been here several times for pedicures and have always had a good experience until today. I had an appointment scheduled for 1:45 PM, but by 2:10 PM I was still just sitting there soaking my feet and hadn't been helped. I understand that delays can happen, but if you're running significantly behind schedule, it would be appreciated if you let customers know or avoid booking appointments you can't keep on time. This place was a good alternative, conveniently located inside Mira Mesa Mall. Lisa was my tech, she's patient, not really rushed, but was cutting it close to ripping the side of my thumb when she was filing too fast. Over charged for service. I had a regular ($30) pedi and asked for callus remover only. The total when she was done was $50. Not even in Los Angeles do they charge that much for a standard pedi with callus remover. Can't recommend an establishment that overcharges. I was very conflicted on writing this review but the recent experience I had did not sit right with me so I need to address it in hopes that they see this and change their behaviors. I have been going to Valley Nails on and off for years and my experience has always been with the owner because she can do Acrylics. She is very kind and the prices are very cheap compared to other shops in Mira Mesa. I stopped getting acrylics so now I just do gel and because of that I don't have a preference of who I go to for my nails. I walk in on Halloween and it's pretty dead. I ask for someone to do a gel manicure and this lady who was sleeping on the massage chair starts to get up after the owner is calling her name to work on me. She wasn't very welcoming and just stared at me. I sit down and someone else hands me the color book. I actually didn't know what color I wanted and had a really hard time picking. I tell the lady that I'm unsure and am between two colors. She says she can put them on my nails for me to see. I say sure. After she's done prepping my nails she puts a very small smidge on two of my nails and asks me which color I wanted. The problem was that these were dark colors that I chose so by her putting a tiny smidge didn't help me figure out the true color. I was conflicted. She immediately starts to complain in Vietnamese "OH THIS GIRL HAD ALL THIS TIME TO CHOOSE A COLOR SHE STILL DOESNT KNOW HOW ANNOYING etc". Oh by the way, I'm Vietnamese. So I know she was complaining about me, but I choose to say nothing because I wanted to keep the peace in the shop (there were other clients there and I didn't want to cause a scene). I was mortified. I try to explain to her that it's hard for me to tell and she stares at me like I'm dumb and raises her voice "DO YOU WANT THE GREEN OR RED WHICH ONE". Again this is really annoying me because I know she's upset at me and also I am not even raising my voice at her yet she is to me. Again, I'm Vietnamese, I know we are loud people, but her tone and what she was saying was definitely out of anger. I honestly didn't know what to do so I just picked one of the colors because she was rushing me. Also there were no customers waiting so I don't know why she wasn't being patient with me. I came mid day as well so they weren't going to close anytime soon. After choosing the color she says to me "IF YOU WANT RED COLOR YOU TELL ME AND I PICK FOR YOU". Um, to be honest I don't know what I wanted and also I have been to salons where I asked the nail tech for help and they just shoved a book in my face and told me to pick. I was in complete silence for the rest of my nail session and she starts to notice. Her tone of voice changes completely, she starts calling me "baby". She knows she needs to get a good tip from me so she did that. I know it. And guess what, I still tipped her 18% even though she put me through a mental turmoil. There was absolutely NO NEED for her to complain about ME in front of ME for everyone in the shop to hear. Honestly I rather just go to Tori Nail Bar right around the corner because of this experience. I am very sorry to give this establishment a 1 star but it was just extremely unacceptable and left me VERY uncomfortable. I hope this lady learns to be more forgiving and patient also to not talk shit about clients in Vietnamese because you never who is!! EDIT: Notice how the two reviews after mine are created literally a day after I posted this review. Both accounts only having 1 review total of this establishment giving them 5 stars and mentioning the same 3 names. One of the accounts were made in November this year. Hmmm very sketchy! They probably created these reviews to attract the attention away from this one. So sad! Why can't they just apologize. What a terrible way to run a business. This is a small hidden sport rather at the back of the complex. I went here for the first time recently and had a good experience. Stephanie did a great job on my nails. I showed her my inspiration picture and she almost achieved that. She is also very sweet and welcoming. They charged me $45 for a full set of acrylics and $15 for small nail art. I was in a rush, looking for a nearby nail shop and came across Valley Nail Shop after reading some glowing Yelp reviews and getting a recommendation from an acquaintance. After a quick glance at their page, I was sold! But boy, was I wrong. If I had known what I was in for, I might've just stuck with my chipped nails and a Boba run. Here's my experience, grab your popcorn - it's a wild ride. A Little Word About Those "Glowing" Yelp Reviews: So here's the real kicker: After my visit, I did a deep dive on Yelp. I noticed a pretty obvious pattern: whenever the shop gets a bad review, a slew of brand-new 5-star reviews magically appear right after. This gives the impression that someone's working overtime to bury the less-than-stellar feedback and keep their overall rating high. Call it "review manipulation," call it "coincidence," but I've been around the block enough times to recognize the trend. Pay: Let's start with the price. A gel French manicure and basic pedicure for $68 (a fairly standard price), plus a $20 cash tip for a total of $88. So far, so good, right? Wrong. After leaving and almost home, I realized I hadn't been charged. Yep, I literally left without paying. When I called them to let them know, hoping to pay over the phone with my cc, they asked for Zelle to which I said all I have is a credit card. The staff was noticeably... less than thrilled and reluctantly accepted my cc over the phone. Yeah sorry it took a few minutes more away from your card playing and further gossiping which I can clearly hear over the phone. Service: Now, let's talk about the service. My nails turned out okay (the white lines were a bit uneven, etc). However, the experience was... less than stellar. I arrived for my appt with one of their sr staff, who was fluent, & a pedicurist who barely spoke English. After a few minutes into my appt, I started to notice something was off. The staff was chatting in their language - loudly and judgmentally - Classic. I gave them the benefit of the doubt & tipped each $10 upfront to hopefully get them to focus on the job instead of me. Spoiler: It didn't work. They carried on, full steam ahead, gossiping. At first, I thought, "Maybe they're just discussing their wknd plans." But then I realized this was less "small talk" and more "judging the customer." One kept asking me questions, like "What do you do?" To which I answered, "I just finished some gardening work and tied up my grape vines." Insert awkward silence. Instead of moving on, she turned to her co-worker and, added her own seasoning. "Oh, she's a farmer, that's why she's so dark,". Rude. Then said, "She asked for a thick white line for her French manicure... well, I'm just going to do a thin one instead." Uh, what?! And "She asked for a menu but only wants a basic pedicure, you can tell she is cheap, look at what she's wearing." And other comments that I would get BEEPED out if I wrote them. I was trying to read and can't concentrate. At that point, I realized it wasn't just a simple chat - this was a full-on gossip session. BINGO - we hit the trifecta of judgment: my job, lifestyle, and apparently, my clothing. Little did they know, I'm fluent in that language. Did I call them out on it? Nah. I didn't want to stoop to their level. But it was a tad disturbing that the owner was there adding her own quiet contribution to the mix. Note to self: Don't show up to VALLEY NAILS in yoga clothes, with no makeup & jewelry if you don't want to be dissected like an insect on a lab table. When they were done, they basically rushed me out of the shop, just the classic "hurry up and leave" vibe, even though no one else was waiting. I in front of the shop for ~10 mins, to finish reading, before driving home and then realized - I hadn't been charged. Comedy of errors at its finest. Ambiance: The shop is right next to Petco. It's clean enough, but the vibe is pretty meh. Nothing that screams "relaxing spa experience" here. Many other shops have a little more personality and warmth. In this case, the only thing warm was the unsolicited gossip. If I had to sum it up in one phrase, I'd call it a "hot mess." Final Thoughts: Here's the thing: there are tons of nail shops around, and in fact, there's one a few doors down called Tori Nail Bar & Spa, next to Ding Tea. Check that place out - or any other nail shop, really. I've been getting my nails done for 35+ years, and I've never experienced anything like this where the staff is openly disrespecting you and gossiping behind your back. A service business should never allow that kind of behavior. A relaxing mani/pedi turned into a crash course in bad service, uncomfortable vibes, and questionable Yelp review practices. Save your money and your sanity, and go somewhere else. Oh and to the staff at Valley Nails, I don't mind a little gossip about general news as long as its not about me. I took a long break from getting my nails done due to the pandemic, but started again fall 2021 and I've been coming monthly ever since. Stephanie is definitely my go-to gal. Communicating with her to get an appointment is always easy and she always does a wonderful job on my nails. I always stay with my natural nails and she applies dip powder and gel on them, which make them stronger and have my manicure last longer.
