Well, we went in with high hopes and came out with it's just ok. The place was counter service and no waitstaff. Self serve drinks and condiment bar. We went through the line process and waited for our food. The lady right in front of us behind the serving line, she took some milk out of the fridge heated it up and poured in the Mac and Cheese, stirred it around and served it to us in a bowl. That was not a good sign. We sat down with the food which to be fair looked pretty good. The stuffed baked potato was good. The sliced brisket was way too salty for our taste. The potato salad was good and so was the sausage. after mentioning it to the manager about the brisket, he did rectify the problem and brought over some center sliced, which was Much better. Banana pudding was just ok. It is a cute little place but it's not close to us. I hope that the kitchen takes the couple suggestions with lighter salt on the brisket and scrap the Mac and cheese and start over with a new recipe. read more

This place reminds me of a hospital cafeteria. The food is horrible! The sauce taste like apple sauce and vinegar. The beef "wanna be brisket" is so dry they should call it beef jerky! The links taste store bought and the bbq baked beans taste like a mix of refried Mexican. beans and some kind of sweet Tomato sauce. I will never come here again... it was cheap food and a waste of calories and time... save yourself the trip and order a McRib from McDonald's. The peach cobbler was supposed to be my happy ending... It was a dead giveaway that this place was not going to be anywhere near my expectations the moment that I approached the expo line to get the food. The place seemed dead, and the outside of the restaurant is extremely deceiving to the overall experience inside the restaurant. For a sign that says "Dining Room NOW OPEN", why do the soda machines have 15 year old logos on them?? The food itself tastes like it's been sitting under warmers ALL DAY, and the pickles seemed identical to the stuff I used to eat in high school. The mac n cheese was indescribable, the bbq beans tasted extremely artificial, and the rice didn't taste "spicy and seasoned" as the cashier explained them. Even the soda tasted funny. How do you mess up the soda??? For a near identical price, you could get a much better experience and much better tasting food at a different bbq joint right down the road. They were still nice and hot when I got home 10 minutes later!!! Bad management ***Horrible experience *** My Husband found this rubber band in his mouth after taking a bite out of this brisket baked potato. I immediately called valley ranch and asked for manager and was appalled by the response I received . "Well we put rubber bands around our boxes " (so your letting me know there is actually rubber bands around your food ) " so it could of fell in when you open box " so your saying my husband put that in his potato? First off none of our boxes were packed with rubber bands That evening . So no . All I received was "I'm sorry we put it around the boxes " of course after chowing down on that rubber band we did not proceed to finish the baked potato . Me being a regular customer I just expected more out of this response (can I replace your meal? )(Would you like your money back on the potato? ) but I revived nothing to that manner just got accused for putting it in the food. Certainly lost a customer after this experience . And the really sad thing is I'm a former restaurant manager and have been in the business for 15 years and I would never treat a customer that way . read more

We came here because it was recommended by friends who grew up in the area. They had a nostalgic memory of eating there in childhood which I can understand. It's a cool spot with the train and boots everywhere and the waterfall with stuffed animals. I can see how it would be a place kids enjoyed visiting. But as someone with no attachment to the place, the food was not good. The turkey was fine. The French fries were good. Brisket tasted boiled and not smoked. Onion rings looked amazing but didn't taste like anything. Our friends who had recommended it left without eating most of their food because it "tasted weird." We won't be back. read more

I have to say I've been coming here for years and over the last year. I've been going through their takeout line and just picking up ribs or brisket and their ribs as well as brisket are some of the best I've ever had in the United States. Last night I picked up a rack of ribs that's going to last me for a few days along with some brisket. It's always nice when a meal puts a smile on your face and the ribs were perfection. I ordered the meat combo plate with ribs and brisket with baked beans and corn on the cob. The meat was overcooked and dry especially the brisket. He really gave me a bad cut. The ribs better but still not good and tender. The corn on the cob tasted like it had been sitting in water for way too long. The corn had no taste of anything but water when I bit into it, even after salt, pepper, and butter were added. The beans were very thick but definitely the best of my meal. My coworker comes here for the potatoes so if I happen to venture here (not likely soon), I guess I will try that. I don't have high hopes but try on your own and you might fair better...they did have a nice lil crowd. read more

This BBQ restaurant located at Hwy 249 and Spring Cypress has been here for several years. Last month I ate here twice to check it out. When you enter the restaurant there is a nice hand washing station with two sinks and soap which I liked. Walking down the serving line you order at the counter. On my first visit, I ordered the 1/2 chicken meal with sides of beans and potato salad. With a drink and tax the bill was $13.58. The food was ready is about one minute after ordering as they fix it as you order. Grabbing my tray, I went into the spacious dining room. There is a large condiment station that has BBQ sauce, onions, picked, utensils, etc. in one part of the dining area is a kids room with toys in it where you can eat and watch your little ones play. In another corner is a nice indoor waterfall and a railroad track runs around the upper circumference of the restaurant with the requisite choo choo train providing the entertainment. My chicken had a smoke grilled flavor to it and was juicy and I enjoyed it (4). The beans had good content but I had to add some of the BBQ sauce to enhance the flavor for me. Otherwise, they would have been a little bland for my tastes. However, I will still give them a 3 without the added sauce. The potato salad was cool, creamy and mayo based and also very good (4). I liked this meal. A couple of weeks later I returned to tackle a sliced brisket sandwich (moist) with a side of cole slaw. With drink and tax this meal was $10.82. For this meal, I thought the brisket sandwich was a 3 and the slaw a 2.5. I used some of their sweet molasses type of sauce for the sandwich which made it better. The sandwich was acceptable. The slaw could have had more flavor (3). Perhaps I should have added some pepper. Next time I might order the potato salad again or even the beans. Both meals were ok but I did prefer the chicken. I wouldn't call this place a must stop for BBQ however it does fill the need for this area as a reliable place to come eat. Prices are reasonable. I give an overall rating of a 3.5 but will round down for Yelp purposes due to the brisket not rating any higher. I would return here to eat if in the area. read more

It is kind of like ordering food at a fast food chain, but also like Luby's. 2. Price - depends on the portion you order (1/2 pound, a pound of meat, or if you order a combo plate). Price can vary from $10/person up to $15/person. 3. Ambiance - unique as you feel like you are eating out in the country some where. Dress code here is casual. 4. Food - I've order a combo plate that contains sausage links, turkey, and 2 sides of potato salad and dirty rice. I didn't care much for the sides, but I've enjoyed eating the sausage links. Their turkey was a bit on the dry side. Was it the best barbeque I had? I would say it was enjoyable, but not the best I've ever had. 5. Cleanliness - restroom and dining area looks clean. read more

Salad tasted old, mildewed. The girl taking our order seemed pre-occupied and kept interrupting my order to joke with a "kid" working there. We were given about 1/2 our order then the kids working here said " go over there for the rest of your food" we questioned where over there was and said we were never here before But never got an answer. Moved down a little and then another "kid" asked could he help us. We said we are waiting for our food. He asked what we ordered. No customers were ahead nor behind us. Finally he gave us a number and said go sit down. Packed my food in to go boxes but gave me a drinking glass. REALLY? Lemons were dried and crusty like they had been out all day. (We came around 7pm. ) BBQ sauce not good. Coleslaw dry. "Brisket " dried out and white colored more like pork and no flavor. Won't be back if this is Texas bbq I'll pass. read more

Valley Ranch has gone way down hill. They aren't the same restaurant they used to be. We tried it a couple of weeks ago and it was still fair. The brisket was not smoked but more like boiled beef. The sausage has changed and seems like a cheap knock off of what they used to serve. My son's hamburger was close to raw. They need to go back to their old style or shut down. They have good prices but if you can't eat the food because it is so bad and not cooked properly you might as well go someplace else and spend more for a much better meal. read more

Good food , friendly service and good prices. They were serving people until they ran out of food during the winter storm when most of us were out of power and water. I'll remember that every time I think of them. Local owned. Not a tacky chain like others nearby. Support the local businesses. The inside has a train track with a train going around the restaurant and a kids area. Family friendly I would say. Salad bar is super good. Lot of options. Got the best chopped beef sandwich I have gotten from there in ages..the other day. Also ordered sliced brisket. Their sandwiches had gotten very small and was about to give up on them!!! This sandwich was finally a decent size and wow the bbq may have been some of the best we have had. The chopped brisket sandwich clearly had 2 different batches of brisket on it. One batch must have been marinated for a long time it was like the best of the best and very flavorful and fresh.... Lol I had to sit and pick the best pieces out of the sandwich it was soooo good. The potato salad was excellent as well however they are cutting potatoes smaller than they use to but still if they cut potato's even smaller their potato salad will finally be perfect. Although I know their bbq beans can be really good... the person who makes them must taste them and be more careful!!! There was way too much salt and bbq sauce in those beans!! I eat here pretty regularly mainly because it's close to work and so convenient. Service is friendly and Micro-Machines-Guy-quick whether you're eating there, picking up to go, or going through a drive-thru. BBQ? Mediocre. Their brisket is on the dry side and not quite as flavorful. The sauce is too tangy and overpowering. Ribs...meh... So why do I keep coming back? Their grilled chicken sandwich is dam good food! Despite their dry red meats, their chicken is moist and full of flavor. Topped with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, and pickles, it seems so healthy which is wrong for a BBQ joint. So I still order the dry brisket with separate dipping BBQ sauce as a side item in lieu of french fries to balance the forces of nature out. This is Houston; we know what constitutes good bbq; Valley Ranch is a total failure. The brisket was dry and virtually tasteless. There was no smoke ring. I have no idea how it was prepared. If I had closed my eyes I would have had no idea as to what I was eating. The portion served was very generous; the downside being it was unpalatable. The bbq sauce was thick and overly sweet; not at all to my liking. We had lunch at noon; the restaurant was virtually empty. Clearly the folks here in Spring, Texas have the measure of this place and are dining elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and give this place a pass. read more

We have been here twice recently and both trips have been good. You get a lot of food for your money and the employees all seem nice enough. This is the 2nd worse bbq in the area. Spring Creek being the worst. We ordered a chicken plate and a brisket + sausage combo with a child's hamburger. My chicken was as dry as a British comedy and my wife's brisket was only marginally less dry. The sausage was fair but pales in comparison to other sausage in the area. Sides aren't much better I'm afraid, the beans are fair as is the rice, but the mashed potatoes are a large lukewarm lump and the corn tastes old and sad. Add that to a sauce that is poor and you have a 1 Star review. The only saving grace to this place is my daughter's hamburger that was consumed with no issue, and the charming train that goes around the ceiling. Get some good taste to go with your children's offerings and I might come back. read more
