Overall experience was wonderful. I have been to other Black Bear Diners and this is right up there with the others. I ordered the $10.99 pick ur eggs, starch and meat. I got 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links and 2 pancakes. All were delicious. The service was fast and efficient. I ordered both my drinks and food together, so that was a time saver. Ordered and got my food within 8-10 min. All was fresh and hot. If you don't like bears before you eat here, you will by the time you leave, LOL. There is a huge bear mural, bears climbing logs in the dining room and bears outside welcoming you inside to eat. There is also bear merch in the lobby if you care to purchase. The place has a laid back Colorado feel to it like a forest with a restaurant adjacent to it. The whole staff was very friendly. I went in a weekday at lunchtime. Late night hunger strikes again. It was around 9 so we were shocked they were still open. Brooklynn sat us and was great from start to finish waiting on us. Genuine smile, attentive, and most importantly kept our drinks full. I love the foresty diner feel, lots of tables and option to sit at the diner in front of the kitchen. Unfortunately, the food just didn't hit the spot for us because we like flavor and nothing on our plates seemed to have any distinctive flavors to wow us. Pretty sure that is done on purpose so we can add salt and pepper and not everyone likes flavor but that's a big thing for me so I don't have to do anything extra. On top of this my burger was loaded with red onions that were not fully grilled and still had some of the tough skin on so when I would bite in onions rings were sliding out of the burger making it hard to enjoy. That's said, the bread had a perfect crunch and was not soggy. Overall, I would still come back and try other dishes to perhaps see if the flavors are there and I'd really like to try their all you can eat fish one day. read more

This was our first trip to this newer location. The restaurant was clean and not crowded. They seemed to have more merchandise than the location we have previously been to. Our food was served promptly, our waiter followed up throughout our meal. I had the Bears Choice and split the French toast w my son. The food was cooked well, the bacon was tasty and not overcooked. I've been here before in another state and loved it. They just opened this location near where I live and it's always busy. I decided to order something new, and honestly, I do not recommend ordering the Cinnabon fresh toast unless you love Cinnabon's. Wish I would have just gotten the pancakes. My family ordered that and I enjoyed them way more. Also recommend ordering the FRESH OJ! So good! Our waiter was excellent too and the restrooms were clean. Overall had a great experience and will be back; however I'll just order something I know I like. Our first visit to this location. Pretty much everything was good, service, wait, and overall friendliness of the staff, everything but the chicken pot pie. Way way way too salty. Several people asked how things were and we told our server, and two other people that the pot pie was too salty. The woman we told already knew, and went on to say that they knew it was an issue, and they were working on it. Apparently the kosher salt they used was stronger than table salt? IDK, all I know is I couldn't eat it, and nobody offered to adjust our tab or exchange the chicken pot pie for something else. That's a shame. A good staff, whether it's a server or a manager, should have recognized immediately that I was not eating my dinner and should have done something about it. I acknowledge the fact that they have been open for exactly one week, but that does not absolve them from expecting someone to pay for something that can't be eaten. We will be back because we do enjoy Black Bear for the most part. I am just hoping for a better experience next time. read more

I visited the diner today and ordered the new menu item: Avocado Toast with eggs and loaded grits. Unfortunately, the preparation of the meal made me think this dish may not remain on the menu for long. I've included a photo to show how it looked when it arrived. In addition to the poor presentation, my toast was missing tomatoes. I informed my waitress, who let me know they had been forgotten and that she would bring them out. Shortly after, a manager came to the table and asked if everything was okay. I explained that I was dissatisfied with the presentation and asked why the tomatoes were missing. She then told me that because I ordered grits, the avocado toast would not come with tomatoes. This was confusing, as the menu clearly states that the avocado toast includes: 1. Toast, 2. Avocado, and 3. Tomatoes, with an option to add eggs. The choice of fruit or grits as a side should not affect the ingredients on the toast. Eventually, I did receive the tomatoes along with an extra slice of avocado (which I didn't request). After adding salt and pepper to the otherwise bland dish, it became edible. This was my first visit, and given the restaurant's convenient location, I hope future experiences are better. Overall, the restaurant was clean and efficient, and the staff were friendly and courteous. However, considering how simple the dish is, a bit more attention--such as proper seasoning--would greatly improve it. read more

First time trying Black Bear Diner and this location knocked it out of the park!!! Service was incredible! Everyone was very friendly and our server was very attentive. I ordered the Denver omelette and subbed the biscuit for a pancake. I've seen many comments below saying the food is bland and needs more salt, but to me everything was seasoned perfectly. The diner is very accommodating with any special requests or modifications to your meal. The entrance and gift shop area made me believe the dining area would be small, but I was wrong. The dining area has a bunch of seating options such as booths, regular tables, and they even have a "bar" area. One of the door guys came over and said, "you bypassed us, don't do that again". Teyy was not pleased at the tone, but I told her I was just waiting... Teyy went on to make sure I was fine while I waited, asked if I had questions. I asked for a Mimosa, but they had no sparkling wine, but she made a great alternative suggestion. When my friend arrived, Teyy came over at once, and took great care of us for the rest of our visit. I was impressed by how fast the delicious food came out, as the place was suddenly humming with breakfast crowds...it was about 8 AM by this time. Very busy place. I have patronized several different locations of this chain, including the original locations in California. The one thing that those locations exhibited was consistency of quality and taste. We have been to the other two locations here in northwest Houston area and they seemed to continue in that trend. We were excited to get the new one close to home in Tomball. I have gone three times now and am very hesitant to say I would go back. The quality of the food is not there. The open face turkey sandwich my wife ordered had meat of questionable grade. Dry and stringy. I have yet to receive an order of hash browns that were not dry and cold. I have tried three different times. My Club Sandwich was constructed using bread that was obviously too small to properly quarter. I got most of a Club Sandwich and a nub. Hopefully they will get a consistent roster of cooks. The service has also been a bit hit-and-miss. I appears they are combing through a host of potential staff? The first two visits had an alarming number of people trying to help you or check in with you. Not to say that that is not good, but I hope they can find more accomplished servers as the last two were...distracted? Let's leave it at that. Will I return? This place was terrible. They never waited on us so I have no experience about the food. There was a full staff and no one ever acknowledged us. We sat there for a good 20 minutes and then decided to leave. There was also one bad stench. I'm not sure if it was a wet carpet or they let in some wet dogs not sure either way we left don't waste your time or your money. Not a good experience. She was so personable that we felt like we were being served by a dear family friend! She was absolutely delightful! Went today and told the waiter no country gravy on my chicken fried steak because it had pork sausage in it to give me turkey gravy ( they accommodated it my last visit no problem ). Dish came out with country gravy and told the assistant server that I didint want country gravy mistake was made and he said it was getting remade . Received my dish with the steak steaming with heat and was extremely over cooked and I was gonna settle because I knew it was busy and Christmas and I didn't want to give them a hassle and I said let me turn it over it might be softer on the other side and low and behold country gravy was still on my steak they had just refried it with the gravy scrapped off the back side and put turkey gravy on the other side , this is very disappointing for me and my family to know we can't trust this business when we express an allergy or preference that cannot be accommodated . read more
