They had lots of tomato plants, peppers, cabbage, cukes and lettuce all reasonably priced. We passed on the budding flowers -- just too soon in the season, we think. But they had a lot of choices, so we'll be back in mid-May. We also like their indoor store; they have some fresh-grown tomatoes that are tasty and sell some very good locally grown canned and bottled products (try their apple sauce - really yummy). Good folks.

This is a great farmer's market where you can find local produce and products. They have delicious…read moreapples and vegetables. Service is fast. It's popular and there were lots of customers there. There's plenty of parking. They have a greenhouse attached to the shop.

We drop by Moscarillo's several times each year, sometimes finding what we want at the right price,…read moresometimes not so much. This year not so much. A couple of things about this garden shop. First, it's much larger than you might think from the road. There are lots and lots of flowers, veggies and other garden items; no quarreling over the choices to be found here. And for the most part the staff has proven helpful. Mostly. Our main issue is over the prices -- this is not a shop for anyone operating on a budget. And in the spring of 2024, it's pretty expensive here to buy potting plants, perennials, hanging baskets, fertilizer, potting soil, vegetables and the like. You may legitimately argue over whether the likes of Home Depot and Lowes can match the quality here, but they certainly do better when it comes to pricing. Check it out -- you may disagree. But at least you have been cautioned.

We stopped in the Moscarillo's Torrington nursery just because we happened to be driving by on our…read moreway home from visiting White Flower Farm in the Litchfield area. What a pleasant surprise! This place is a lot bigger than it looks. We found the very hard to find Donkey Tail or Burrito succulents! We bought 2 of those, a String of Teardrop, and a tiny String of Pearls. I also found the most beautiful rain gauge there. They had a really nice selection of all landscaping plants and flowers, even a nice sized selection of houseplants. Everything in this store is well taken care of and healthy. Lastly, the prices were very reasonable. I can highly recommend this place.

They sell plants and flowers, but I didn't pay attention to that aspect of their operations. Cold Spring sells some of their own produce, products from other CT Farms and/or Orchards, Cold Spring branded products such as salsa, and other area products such as bread from a local bakery. I bought green cabbage, peaches, celery and salsa. Everything seemed appropriate quality for seasonal CT produce. The produce I didn't buy also looked good and represented what's in season pretty well. I will definitely go back for in season produce since I live in the area. This is an observation as opposed to a criticism. The reason I'm giving Cold Brook 4 Stars rather than 5 Stars relates to the extent of their offerings compared to another Farm Stand I frequently visit that's a bit farther away. That Farm Stand has a wide range of partnerships with high end CT businesses and they have things like high quality bagels, cheeses, pies, cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, etc. That Farm Stand also has a wider range of canned goods, meats, and dairy products etc. I would travel farther to a Farm Stand like that because there are more products that interest me. Cold Spring will be the place I go for convenience when I want in season produce for a few days.

As they price individually and in sets, you may end up bringing home more plants than planned, but this is a good spot to get it all started. We now have a glorious set of tomatoes in progress, and now a couple extra tomato planters. The double decker wagons all over also help you take home more. The little farm store, extra colorful with its murals, has honey, maple syrup, salsa, and maybe more on down the season. It's neat to see start and end of season at the checkout, and the staff was kind. Thankfully there is extra parking is on both sides of the farm store, in case you're driving East, just look out for wagon traffic on your way through each greenhouse.

I didn't hate it, didn't love it. It's one of those places that looks like a flea market on the…read moreoutside but feels more like a collection of boutique stalls once you're in. Each vendor has a cute little setup, which is nice for browsing, but the pricing? Definitely not flea market pricing. As a reseller, I'm always on the hunt for deals, and there just wasn't any room here. Most items were priced at full retail--or even higher in some cases--which kind of defeats the purpose. Yes, some of the stuff is old, used, and vintage-adjacent, but nothing rare enough to justify the markup. If you're just looking for a weekend wander or want a quirky spot to kill time, it's fine. But if you're a picker, collector, or someone who knows the value of what you're looking at... this probably isn't your gold mine. Personally, I won't be rushing back.

If you're the type of person who enjoys "treasure hunting" this will be a fun way to spend a few…read morehours. The building is HUGE, and literally jam-packed with individually owned sections (I want to say "booths" but that's not completely accurate)... each containing completely different kinds of items. If you're a collector, there's a good chance you'll find something to add to your collection. Be sure to peek at all the photos I added to get an idea of what can be found. Many of the "booth" owners hangs out near their offerings. It felt like a little community in there and most of the people were friendly. We saw 3 dogs, Two seemed happy and friendly, and one was in a carrier with a warning sign, who was miserable and scared and growling (can only assume he was in that too small container because he bites, out of fear). That poor caged dog was the only bad (horrible really) thing. Hopefully someone there will see this review and find a way to give that small puppy a more humane way to spend his day. It really was sad and disturbing. Overall I'd say that The Flea Market at the Crossing is worth checking out at least once, especially if you're looking for an interesting way to spend an hour or two. Bring someone 50+ with you and watch them remember happy times spent with their grandparents. From the glassware and kitchen tools to the kitchen table in my photos, I found myself remembering he things my grandparents chose for their houses. We didn't buy anything this time, perhaps we'll return one day.
