I was a little concerned that my registration was due during this pandemic situation and my 14 year old truck wouldn't pass smog plus it had to be Star certified at that. I read all of the excellent reviews about Value Smog and gave them a call to ask if they accepted appointments. Sure enough! His schedule was flexible so I accepted the first morning appointment for the following week. I arrived a bit early before they were scheduled to open and an associate assured me it would be fine for me to wait in the lobby. I was grateful since June heat had already kicked in. The environment looked prepared for a contact-less transaction considering COVID19 with a plastic screen shielding the cashier and the customer. He was also wearing gloves and maybe a mask. He was so courteous that I can't even remember that detail but I do remember a sign reading customers should wear a mask. He requested I drive my own vehicle into the service bay and return to the lobby to wait. It seemed just a few minutes when my truck was ready and had PASSED. I had a couple of coupons which he kindly honored and once again, he allowed me to drive my vehicle out of the garage for a contact-less experience and I was on my way. I previously went to PS SMOG on Ramon Road with the "Check Engine" light illuminated on my dash. They were all too happy to perform a smog test and then automatically fail my car because the check engine light was on AND then charge me $52!! Knowing that they were going to automatically fail my car, do you think they would have advised me beforehand?? I had been going to them for years and when I complained, they told me that they did not have to tell me anything UNLESS I mentioned to them that the check engine light was on BEFOREHAND! What a bunch of BS!! Value Smog was very friendly. They did not charge me extra for not having my DMV Smog form with me. They were able to transmit the smog certification with just my ID. I went there early one morning and i handed the guy my license cert sticker for my modified air intake that is carb legal in California. After he saw that his attitude was not friendly. he looked at my engine and told me that i had no catalytic converters. I Actually purchased 2 catalytic converters and installed them myself. My car has 2 of them. he then told me that i did not have them cause he couldn't see them when he bent down to look under the car, he didn't want to put the car on a lift and look, he refused and failed my car on the visual inspection, i took my car to another place down the street and my car passed smog. read more

Needed a smog check, they are close by so stopped by. They were busy but made an appointment for later. They were ready for me when I arrived and took the car right in, which was great because I had driven the car around to warm it up. I had a coupon on my phone which they took no problem so saved some money for me. The crew there was very polite and respectful, there was a nice atmosphere amongst the team working there. The place looks a little older but is clean and tidy with comfortable chairs to wait in. They were fast and had me on my way in less than 15 min. I passed and was able to register my car within a few hours. As a footnote there was a couple there before me who had a check engine light on (which will automatically fail your smog check) The Tech there really tried to get the light to go off, using all his experience to see if it was a gremlin somewhere, but had no luck. He explained to them what they needed to do before he could smog check it and sent them on their way, no charge. This is the kind of business I like to support. read more
