Another mechanic nearby had quoted me upwards of $10,000 for a new transmission which was 90% of the price of the car. Chris was super frank and helpful in explaining that doesn't make sense, and could be done much cheaper. After some discussion I decided to ask him to tow the car across the street from where I had it dropped off, and decided to pay $3300 to put a used transmission in the 2010 Subaru Outback with as many miles on it as the car. I commuted in Denver one way or another for a few weeks which was admittedly a long time, but I planned on buying another car anyway and told Chris I wasn't in too much of a hurry, and his lot was jam packed with cars (a good sign). After some time had passed I hitched my way back up to Vail and picked up the car, it was in great working condition and was 1/3 the price the other guys quoted. Chris was super helpful and patience answering all my questions and concerns over the phone and very responsive to my sometimes frequent calls! Managed to get a few thousand dollars back on a car that otherwise would have been scrap metal thanks to this guy. Huge thanks to Ascent and the crew there and for all their help! I paid for a full inspection which includes checking fluid level checks. I specifically requested the rear differential fluid to be checked. The receptionist stated "oh yeah we check all the fluids" After picking up my vehicle and receiving the estimates, which were over $3k, for needed repairs, I drove straight home to check the "needed repairs " on the estimates. It was stated that my driveshaft was about to come apart which, would cause catastrophic failure. The u-joints at both ends of the driveshaft were in perfect, lubricated condition. The receptionist relayed information from the mechanic stating the driveshaft connections were so bad, that a catastrophic failure could happen at any time. There are grease fittings at every joint along the driveshaft assembly. You would hope the mechanic would've given them a shot of grease instead of sending me on my way with such a dangerous condition. Nope! Part of the estimate they gave me was for changing the fluid in the rear differential. The fill hole wasn't touched. How do I know this you might ask? Because the area surrounding the fill plug was dusty/dirty and bone dry. As soon as I began unscrewing the fill plug, fresh gear oil began to leak out, which would've been wiped off or wet at least, proving it was never checked. Finding a great mechanic is like finding gold... no gold here folks.

This is not the first time they've come through for me, and once again they've absolutely knocked it out of the park. My Tesla Model Y took a serious hit when ice slid off my roof and caved in the top of the car. It was heartbreaking, and I was honestly worried it might not be fixable--especially since every other shop in Colorado I called told me they couldn't (or wouldn't) work on Teslas. But not Dutch's. This was AFTER getting $170 for the 2.5 mile tow that took almost 3hrs from dispatch to final load up. After explaining that the part price seemed a bit excessive.
