Three Strikes -- I'm Done With This Location I've gone to the Valvoline in Bound Brook, NJ regularly because it's close to home. Even though my dealership in Wayne, NJ offers free oil changes, it's too far to be practical for regular service, so I've relied on this Valvoline for the convenience. The team is friendly, and the service is quick, which I appreciate. But as far as I can tell from tracking my visits, after the same issues happening three times in a row, I can't trust that I'm getting the full service I'm paying for -- and I won't be going back. The first thing I noticed was that my oil changes felt too frequent. When I checked my credit card statements, I saw I was getting oil changes way more often than I should. My car takes full synthetic oil, which should last about 7,500 miles, but each time, they set the return sticker at just 2,500 miles -- that's 5,000 miles early. When I asked about it, the attendant said it's their way of helping customers "avoid going over." But without telling me they were doing that, it just caused me to get unnecessary oil changes and spend more money. Then there's the tire pressure check, which is supposed to be included. On each of my last three visits, I went in with the tire pressure light on, and was told it would turn off after driving. It didn't. When I checked the tires myself, some were as much as 20 psi under. Clearly, they weren't checked or filled -- even though I was told they were. I don't mind putting air in my own tires, but I do mind being told something was done when it wasn't. And I really don't appreciate being guided into oil changes thousands of miles earlier than my vehicle requires. I've been going to various Valvoline locations with 3 cars for 10+ years. My most recent experience with the Bound Brook location was a disaster. I will never use their service again. I went in for an oil change. They told me that there was an oil leak at the oil pan gasket, which they do not fix. So I went to my car dealer to have it fixed. The dealer told me that there was no leak at the oil pan gasket, and showed me that there was a leak at the newly installed oil filter and another leak at the oil drain plug since Valvoline did not put a gasket on the plug. The only way to fix the leaks was to do another oil change. So I wasted $130+ for Valvoline's oil change. And to add insult to injury, I found that the dealer's oil change price was $30 cheaper than Valvoline's price. I wrote a complaint to Valvoline. They did respond promptly. However, they had already made up their mind before they called me that my claim would be denied since they said they did the job correctly. Yeah, right. read more

It's always an experience to get my oil changed here. It makes me feel like I am at a pitstop at the Poconos Race Track. I feel confident that the crew runs my car against their checklist. I know all my lights work. So I have no worries @ being stopped for a tail light out. Ty you team! read more

I was at Valvoline bound brook NJ today at 10am 11/24. I was mistreated by the misogynistic, egomaniac running the place. First, got yelled at for 5 minutes before entering the building because I misunderstood the hand gesture to move into the garage No harm no foul, I didn't enter the building, or run anyone over, but I was reprimanded by this idiot for 5 minutes. Thinking to myself, if I was a male this would not be happening right now. Then her proceeded to berate me because he was trying to sell me a $28 air filter a few times and I refused. Bud check your ego at the door. Your not working for a Lamborghini or Porsche, your a Valvoline lacky. Seriously, avoid this place at all costs. Rude and overpriced read more

Several weeks ago in December, I went to this Valvoline in Bound Brook, New Jersey. I had my Mitsubishi Mirage oil change. They changed my oil, but forgot to check the transmission fluid, but told me and on paper that the transmission fluid was good except dark. The other manager was listening and went outside and the proper air in the tire. The manager said he asked the technician to check the air. He told him no. The manager said he will talk to the technician. I've been going there for several years. I thought something was wrong and told the manager at the time about it. I then went to Auto zone to look at it again and there was no transmission fluid in the Mirage. As I sat in the mirage, I noticed he checked the transmission fluid while the vehicle was off. I know that you must check the transmission fluid while the vehicle is on. I then called the manager and told him about that, and he said he would reprimand the technician. The other manager was listening and went outside and the proper air in the tire. The next day I brought my Sebring to the shop. I was told there was a plug in the oil and that they did not feel comfortable in making the oil change. I explained to them that the only one who would put a plug in it was you guys. I remember the last oil change I got on the Sebring the technician had a problem underneath and the manager went down and worked on it never telling me that they put a plug on or before. I called the store and well as customer service, and they explained to me that they documented that there was an oil leak for 21 services that I did on the Sebring and yet they still did the oil change per the receipts they had given to me. They were explaining that they will take no responsibility even though there was a leak and not telling me, yet they still took the money and did not care of the customer in this regard. read more

Instant oil change? I wish but let's keep it realistic. Your lucky if you can change the oil in your snow blower in 15 minutes. Like all fast oil change places that have a gimmick this one is more of a reality. Lucky for me I don't have to pay for the oil change in my truck because 230 bucks every 3 months would definitely hurt a guys checkbook. The team at this place always does a great job on my truck and gets me out as quick as they can. I'd rather spend 10 extra minutes making sure it's done right then having it done in a " jiffy " and having something not get done. Yes that happened. Had to wait 35 minutes because one garage had a customer that was getting much more than a oil change. Because of that the second garage was the only one that was open. I also didn't get a very friendly vibe from one of the technicians that was working. Probably wont come here again. read more

They didn't have the right filter for my car they asked me to call back to see if they have the filter.They could not call me when it came in, stated .. they were too busy. I called a few days after, they stated they had the filter. When I arrived the filter is not available. What? They will never had the filter as per Ariel the assistant manager. Horrible service, its more then 15 mins. If anyone did his through the groupon you basically are going to waste your whole day. consider just calling the other chains it will legit save you 5-10$ but more importantly your whole day for an oil change Update to the owner response: You've been copying and pasting the same apology for multiple months/years yet If your specific location/branch really cared they would have more employees and stop being so understaffed or only 2 lifts . When I was there everybody was frustrated. I believe most of these reviews are fake. The worst part about this is for the Groupon you pre-pay for an oil change and you have no choice but use a couple understaffed specific locations with no ability to make an appointment or to cancel or get a refund. The service was quick and comprehensive. Service was completed in ~10 minutes. I'm always cautious about upsells though, so I called in advance to check the price and to confirm that there would be no further charges other than tax, given the car model/ year and oil service I selected. When I rolled in they told me my vehicle (RAV 4) has a unique oil filter that costs an extra $8 on top of the fee I confirmed in advance. Very misleading marketing ploy. read more

I LOVE this valvoline!!! This is my 3rd time here and every time I come the guys are super polite and very efficient. I have never waited longer than 15 min to get my car started, and it usually only takes them around 20 to do the oil change. Best part is that they have a groupon for their oil changes, so I never pay full price. I used to go to the JiffyLube in Bridgewater off Route 22, however the owner there consistently tries to rip you off, and you wait over an hour for your car to be done. Rip-off alert. Talked to Enrique the Manager. They tried to force the more expensive synthetic blend oil on me saying my Honda requires it. And if I didn't use the synthetic blend they would have to report this through Carfax because the car would be damaged goods. we just left and told them we won 't be doing business there any longer. Before you get your oil changed look at the owners manual to determine the type of oil your car needs. Typically high performance engines like BMW's require synthetic oil so some cars do indeed require it, but many (like Honda's don't). Buyer be ware! read more

The place is convenient and the staff is friendly, but unfortunately the work is shoddy. First, they didn't adequately reattach the splash guard tray under my car, which fell down on the highway. Gave them another chance, and then my car started overheating on the way to work. Another mechanic suggested they probably didn't screw back on the radiator cap well enough. Both of these situations make me feel like the staff is working too quickly and making too many mistakes. Wish I could trust this place again, but I just can't take my car back to this location. read more

I was told that it would only take 20 minute at most to take care of the three cars in front of me but a simple battery change turned into a half hour plus venture. Great experience. I went at 12:30 on a Monday for a conventional oil change and there was no line. In and out in approximately 20 minutes. Everyone was friendly despite showing up at what I presume would be their lunchtime. I had a coupon and it all came out to less than $30. I'll be using these guys again for sure. read more

I don't know what these guys are doing, but it is not changing oil. I get there, the bays are full but i am next up. I left after 30 minutes, never getting in or spoken to. During that time, i watch the guys talk on the phone, empty the trash, wander around and BS....but I am not in. I left very annoyed and went to write a review on the valvoline website. Guess what - they have lots of nice reviews, but no way for me to add my comments. Think maybe they are managing those? I have been to this shop many time, but they lost me today. read more

So this place is awesome. They are honest, friendly and don't push a bunch of stuff you don't need on you. They make recommendations of what needs replacing soon, but they don't harass you if you say no. Best part is you don't even have to get out of your car! That's a lifesaver when you have kids! read more
