First and foremost, the staff was awesome and incredibly helpful - also they offered additional services but weren't pushy at all (as some places can be). What was unfortunate was getting all the way home to receive a call from the business asking me to come back because one of the technicians failed to put the engine cap back on. Not a HUGE deal, but it could have been. At the end of the day, no harm caused other than the hassle of driving back. I came here per recommendations of another Valvoline location and I should have done my research as the other Martinez location had much better reviews (yes my fault for trusting and for not doing my due diligence). I knew things were bad when they freaking asked me to reverse so another customer can go first. I should have left and I had a huge gut feeling to leave but I didn't because of trust. They somehow did things differently compared to all of my other Valvoline experiences. I sincerely hope my car will be okay *cry*. What was the worst part is, I was sweating bullets trying to find a coupon because the one from Yelp did not work for me. I originally had another one but the black dude with the dreads/braids said, "nah that ain't gonna work." Then he just handed me to another black dude because first black dude had enough. He tried my coupon (not the yelp one) and it worked. Strange of all, they themselves have promo codes and barcodes to help folks (I have been to the concord location who helped me with one so I know it isn't just an other states sort of deal). Instant oil change! What a trip! An oil change was on our list of things that should get done soon. In the area we decided to pull in. There was no line and we were instructed to just pull into the area. You stay in your vehicle the entire time! The young lady whom we interacted with was a cool with a really good attitude and constant smile, even though my husband was a bit grumpy. Haha. They check everything and I felt like it was the easiest oil change ever. We also purchased an air filter. In the end it was 190$. Man, stuff is expensive these days! I hardly ever write reviews, let alone negative ones, but my experience here was abysmal and I was taken advantage of. I brought my car in for a regular oil change (which runs $56.99) and was told my brake lights were out. I thought it was odd given the day prior I had a sheriffs vehicle behind me and wasn't stopped for this, but I'm going to choose to believe the person taking care of the vehicle. He made several attempts to verify that they were working then let me know the filament was burnt out on both. No issue, glad that this was caught especially with bad weather coming. However, the 7443 bulbs my Nissan takes are cheap and you can get a two-pack for $6-10 whether it's Walmart or Autozone. I didn't authorize the change, said I'd do it myself since I know how and wanted to save money. I want to give the technician the benefit of the doubt that they couldn't hear me (it took him three tries to input my mileage and still didn't hear the correct number), but he ends up putting new bulbs in anyway then shows me the burnt out one. I was really shocked to see them charging $19.99 PER bulb, that's not including labor (which only seemed to apply to the oil change itself). Now my $56.99 pre-tax oil change is $109. What was incredibly frustrating was telling them I can do it myself and being ignored then the work being done. I made sure to mention my frustration but didn't feel taken seriously. The location had what looked like up to ten employees working but it still took close to an hour to get the work done, and I paid almost twice what I expected to and was dismissed when I have done this repair countless times myself. I usually go to the location on Alhambra Ave but they were unfortunately closed. I had been to this location a few times years ago when they were under a different brand, and it was awful then, and it felt awful this time too. I don't make so much money that 40 dollars in forced work isn't insignificant, that's a lot. That mechanics (especially oil change businesses, tire stores, etc) can get away with stuff like this feels criminal. read more

I've been a customer for years and always go to the location on Alhambra. Super nice, helpful staff there. I swung into the Arnold Drive location tonight in pouring rain just to get air in one tire because I got an urgent dialog from the car to get air immediately. An employee asked what I was there for and I said, "air." I waited 15 minutes and another employee came over and also asked what I needed. I said, "just air." He apologized and said that Valvoline is now charging $9.99 for top offs including air. I said I wished I knew 15 minutes ago and since I'd already been waiting and didn't need any fluids, could I please just get air? He was very polite and said it wasn't up to him and I asked to speak to the manager because of the wait. Unfortunately, the manager was the first guy, Lance. He was immediately incredibly rude. He said I hadn't been there since July (who cares? I had a sticker showing that I wasn't due for another 1200 miles!) and he could clearly see that I was a long-time customer. I said that I would have appreciated knowing about the charge straight off before waiting 15 minutes. He said that since I got topped off in November, I should have known about the charge. Mind you... when he originally asked me what I needed, he had no idea I was there in November! I said that $9.99 didn't make sense for just air when a gas station would charge $1. He told me to go to the gas station then! I said that time was money and I had wasted 15 minutes waiting so please fill the tire. He shocked me by saying, "Time IS money and I have PAYING customers here so you go enjoy your night." I was stunned! I said, "What's your name? Lance? Got it. You're getting a Yelp review. Came in on a Monday morning, not too busy. Gentlemen named Jeff greeted me immediately, explained what I needed done on the car. Guided me through the process of what was occurring but what I really appreciated was two things, he pointed out his manager incase if I had any questions and when it came down to my car filter he wasn't pushy even told me that it looked pretty clean and that I should just recheck it on my next visit. Now that's integrity. Also I liked that when it came down to my oil level, he both showed me and requested the manager to have a double look. Which definitely brings comfort to the customer experience when you have more than one person double checking, all in a very pleasant experience and I will be back! read more

From my reliable 2008 Honda CRV to my classy lady of a 2018 VW Beetle this location has been my go-to and I couldn't figure out why. I realized why this past month. Every single soul here is dedicated and doing their damndest to service our community properly and efficiently. When we learn our community we learn we're all here in the community garden that is our world. We all do our jobs and try our best to not just accomplish that but if we can, go a little further. I came here a few days ago for an oil change. They do have good customer service and are friendly which is why I'm giving it one extra star than I wanted. They took out the whole oil dip stick tube out (not just the dipstick) and said since it's bent, they can only put 2 quarts of oil instead of 4. THEY STILL CHARGED ME FULL PRICE. I have never heard of that before and I did nottt ask them to take the whole thing out. After I left, my car has HELLA black grease on all the spots they touched. They cleaned one part but it only spread. I DO NOT recommend anyone coming here. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. My boyfriend brought his car here for an oil change and they drained the transmission fluid and filled it with oil! They also spilled oil all over the engine. Of course, the car broke down immediately after the oil change. We had to spend $400+ on a tow truck to get it to the shop and had to spend nearly $1000 in repairs. Valvoline is careless and the girl who did his oil change couldn't be more incompetent. They literally have one job and cannot even do that--pathetic. I would avoid at all costs. read more

Don't waste your time or money here. I take my car for an oil change, after they drain my oil & I paid they tell me they don't have the oil my car requires. Thankfully I had 5 quarts in my trunk so they could refill my oil but instead of a refund they give me $4.50 back when that 5 quarts of oil costs $35. The manager told me he would talk with his district manager & email me a discount for my next oil change which never happened.
