Finally getting around to writing this review. I brought my truck here in the summer of 2025, and before I get into my experience, I'll give credit where it's due: Meineke has the most competitive price on a synthetic blend oil change anywhere in the East Bay Area. This could easily have been a 1-star review, but I'm choosing to give the technicians the benefit of the doubt and assume this was either an honest misjudgment about what my truck needed or perhaps a misunderstanding on my part. Either way, I think my experience is worth sharing. The staff was friendly, and the oil change was completed very quickly. Afterward, they walked me through a detailed inspection report with a long list of recommended repairs. My truck is over 20 years old, so I expected there to be some issues. What caught me off guard was the severity of what I was told. The estimate came to more than $3,500, and I was informed that the suspension and steering rack needed to be replaced, the tires needed replacement, and several other items. The mechanic emphasized that the truck was a safety hazard and even warned that it was possible to lose steering ability at any moment if the loose rod finally went out. I was honestly crushed. As soon as I got home, I started seriously considering selling the truck. I was supposed to help some friends move that weekend, but I immediately called and told them my truck was out of commission. I got a few quotes over the phone for the steering and suspension work, and Meineke's pricing was generally in line with the other estimates I received. Before scheduling the repairs, I randomly saw a coupon in the mail from my local Toyota dealership for 50% off a full vehicle inspection. I figured, "What the heck? Before I spend more than $3,000, I'll have the dealership take a look." I dropped the truck off and explained that the suspension and steering were probably shot. The next day, I got one of the best phone calls I've ever received - "Hey Matt, good news. Your truck is fine. The suspension and steering are definitely showing their age, and they're worth keeping an eye on, but there's nothing mechanically unsafe about them, and they do not need to be replaced right now." I was so stoked! The dealership did give me a laundry list of maintenance items, including replacing the tires that they considered super unsafe lol (which I finally replaced). Beyond that, however, the remaining recommendations were relatively minor. My hope is that the Meineke technicians simply made a recommendation that turned out to be much more conservative than necessary. That said, this ordeal caused me so much stress, and the report they gave me stated that these repairs were necessary for my safety. Since then, I've driven this truck nearly every day without a single steering or suspension issue. That discrepancy is hard to ignore read more

Scam artists! I had $1600 work of work completed in my car. JACOB - the sales advisor or Store manager was the one that went over the work with me. He said "I don't know how this car is breaking. The brakes are at 0%." I told him to do the work that he deemed necessary or was a safety issue but not the brakes because my husband can do the brakes. When we went to pick up my car he told me the timing chain needed to be replaced that day and that would be another $1900! Not thinking my car was not even worth all of that work, I told him no. Fast forward a few days later my husband bought brakes and went to change them. They were at 55% and didn't need to be changed yet. We took the car another mechanic to double check the work that he said was done. The air filter was not changed. I have pictures of that. The brakes didn't need to be changed, I have pictures of that. The timing chain didn't need to be replaced, it was a lie. He didn't do an oil change or flush. He simply added oil to the existing black oil. I also paid for new lug nuts for the tires, so he charged me full price for used lug nuts?? my car has not been driven so it's clearly visible that they are used. This car takes my kids to school everyday and I was so worried about safety issues. So for them to lie is diabolical. The charge for the oil and filter was an additional $67.38 and $45.85, respectively. The grand total charge was $228.14. This includes tax of $9.91. $228.14 for a routine oil change is too much. I was told that they were understaffed and were having difficulty keeping up with appointments and people services. Complete waste of my time. A couple days prior I made an appointment to have my oil changed. They were given my cars make, model, and year and what service needed to be performed. Shortly after i arrived they drained my oil, only to tell me that they don't have a filter and will have to wait for it to be delivered. So my 30 minute oil change turned into hours. Honest and amazing experience!! I was driving on Shell Ave., and my car stalled, it was just my husband and myself and we were trying to get my vehicle off the busy street, when two young men Jake and Jacob from Meineke came running to help. It was nearly 6PM and their closing time, they were able to get my car into their lot and offered to look into the problem further in the morning. My son picked us up and by 7:30AM I had heard back from Eric, while in the end I decided to have my car towed to my personal mechanic in another city, these gentlemen need to be recognized for being great guys who did not hesitate to help when it was clearly time for them to clock out and head home. I would not recommend anyone use this shop. I had a lot of work done here on my Mini Cooper. The processes to get the car fixed took longer then initially agreed and ended up having to return multiple times. The worst part is after they claimed to have finished and when driving my car, the tire went bald within the inside of wheel. I had no idea it was out of alignment after getting so much "work" done. While driving my car, the tire blew out on the freeway putting me in the wall, and ended up totaling my car out. I had my car inspected at crockett auto body and discovered this was a result of meineke not completing their alignment after installing new struts and shocks on the car. Avoid this place at all costs! I would leave zero stars if Yelp allowed it! Had an appointment scheduled for 11:00am last Thursday to get an oil change, have 4 new tires that I provided installed, and get an alignment. Was told the work was simple and the car would be ready within an hour. Received a phone call 4 hours later from one of the technicians stating that they had installed 3 out of the 4 tires but their tire machine had broke. They said the part would be there in the morning and car would be finished first thing tomorrow. Received a phone call the following morning ~ 07:30am saying that they were working on finishing the car and it would be ready soon. I didn't hear from them for a few hours so I called ~ 11:00am. Was informed they were wrapping up and car would be ready in 30 minutes. I got there ~ 11:45 and it was obvious that they weren't close to finished. Car was still on the lift and wheels/tires were still on the floor. Waited around for 45 minutes and didn't receive any updates so I decided to leave. Received a phone call about 2 hours later saying that the work couldn't be completed because their tire machine was old and "couldn't handle new rubber". Additionally, I was informed that their tire machine had damaged my brand new tire and that they would be compensating me for a new tire and reducing the service charges since they couldn't finish the work. When I got there, they had installed the spare tire on my car because they had damaged both my old and new tire during the installation process. This left my car in a dangerous state because the spare tire was flat and a different size than my existing wheels. Was told that since their machine was broken there was nothing they could do. I needed my car that night so I scrambled to find a local tire place that could fix it. Ended up at RT Tire in Pacheco who did an amazing job finding me a used tire in the right size that they were able to install in 15 minutes without issue! I've been driving around with mismatched tires for the past few days while I wait for the new tire to be delivered. I understand that I was compensated for the damaged wheel and work the wasn't not completed, but my time is more valuable than that. I will never be returning to any Meineke and will spend the rest of my life making sure that no one I know goes there again read more

My wife took her car to Meineke this week for an oil change. They called to say she needed a battery too, which she authorized. The bill came to $600 for a battery I could have bought at an auto store for $200. That included $132 for installation, which I could have done in 5 minutes even though I'm a mechanical ignoramus. I have come to this location before for smaller things such as oil changes and due to my good experience I decided to come here and use a Groupon that I saw for my brakes. I knew my brakes were going bad because they were squeaking and my brake fluid light was on. I have an older car, about 12 years old and I knew that it was time to take him to get a free inspection. Upon coming in, the mechanic behind the desk did not have a mask on. He did not seem to be bothered by the fact that I had a mask on and it did not dawn on him to put his on. I was a little in shock. Another mechanic peeked in through the door and made a motion and at that point, the man behind the desk put his mask on. OK so no problem. It took him a while to check me in as he kept telling me that he is not a front desk person but is a mechanic. Okay...... After being checked in I was told that they would call me in 20 minutes to let me know what needed to be done and not to purchase the Groupon until I knew exactly what I needed. No problem. I went and had some breakfast with my family and an hour later realized that I had not gotten a call... OK so I called them and was told, oh, we were just about to call you, we are working on your quote right now. They then started to tell me where in addition to the Groupon special which only includes brakes and pads that my rotors were going bad and would need to also be replaced. I asked what the cost would be. I was told upwards of $300 or $400! What! So you are telling me that I need to pay that on top of the Groupon special? At this point I told him to hold off as I wanted to see what their competition would charge me. When I went back to talk to them in person I was able to talk with someone behind the counter, and he told me that if they were able to resurface the rotors that it would be less than the cost of the quote, around the ballpark of 150 instead of 300. I asked him why why can I not get a full quote, did they not take a look at the rotors? It seems like they had not even checked them and were just giving me a quote based on what could possibly happen. So I went out to talk to my husband to see what he thinks I should do and he told me that I should go ahead and let them do the work. This is where it gets kind of ugly. I walked back in and the guy that I had just talked to was now on the phone, with who seemed to be his manager. I am literally standing in front of him for several minutes and he does not even acknowledge my presence. I cough that irritated cough to show that I'm standing right there, hello? Do you not see me? Why are you going over orders from a cars specs with your manager with a paying customer standing right in front of you? I then became frustrated and called out, hey are you talking to your manager on the phone? He says yes. I loudly say can you let your manager know that a paying customer has been standing here for about 5 to 10 minutes and is waiting? And that it is rude to have a customer waiting? This guy then proceeds to continue to talk to his manager and says, yeah I know but she has been waiting here standing here for a while now. So now I'm irritated! I ask if I am going to be able to get the work done today and if I should go ahead and purchase the Groupon. The guy tells me yes. So I click purchase on Groupon. Then the guy tells me oh I spoke to my manager he told me that you shouldn't buy the Groupon and give you a discount to equal the same cost. What? Didn't you just tell me to purchase the Groupon? So if you were able to give me the discount what the heck is the purpose of the Groupon anyway? I was so irritated. I told him to go ahead and do the work. To make matters worse, another man came in after me and was told, oh I will be with you in a minute even though the guy was working with me. I had issues getting up the redemption code and this guy actually had the audacity to try and assist the man behind me with a pick up. Now why couldn't he have put his manager on hold to help me in that fashion. Is it because I am a female? Just rude. Again I was quoted with a timeframe of about an hour, of course it took more like 2 1/2. Seriously though. I think it could've been done faster than that as there were literally no other cars being worked on except for the car that this guy was talking to his manager about in the bay. But what I can say is that my brakes are fine, they were able to resurface the rotors, Of course, right? Of course they going to try to upsell especially during Covid. The thing is, in order to get a good rating from customers and feedback and I have repeat customers to treat them well. I had came in one day for my tire since my tire light came on and they aired it up for me and checked all tires then told me if it comes on again within a few days bring it back and we will take another look. If you want synthetic oil, they charge you twice the amount it costs, and 30 dollars more than a synthetic blend, just because they rotate tires and check your fluids. Took my car in to get the rear brake pads replaced. Another shop had done a brake inspection for me while replacing my tires a few days prior, so I knew the rotors were in good shape. I was told by Clint, the manager here, that they would not replace the pads without replacing the rotors as well. Mind you, this was before an inspection was even performed by them. I left. But at this point I had already taken the time off from school so I thought I'd try another meineke shop. They gave me a quote for $800 in repairs. They said I needed new pads and rotors all around. Honestly, I'd recommend going anywhere other than Meineke. I ended up taking my car to a competitor, got the work done same day by communicative employees at the fraction of the cost that meineke tried to take me for. I wanted to like this shop after visiting for the first time when I normally go to places closer to where I live. Positives are that the staff (Jerry especially) are very friendly and nice. But the negatives: Opens at 7:30am so I arrived for a simple oil change on a Saturday at 7:30am ... to a closed shop. Walked up and verified the open time as posted on the door. It was eventually opened at 8am. But only one staff member was there at 8am so they couldn't start working on cars until more staff arrived at 8:30am. During servicing another operational delay was encountered and my car - the first one on the lot and just getting an oil change - was finally finished at 9:50, 2 and a half hours after I got there at posted opening times. Also for some reason an employee left wipes and a brochure for a random company in a city I've never been to in my glove compartment. I'm not even sure why they went in the glove compartment. I would've chalked it up to a bad memory on my part if I hadn't opened the glove compartment before I got there to put all of my personal documents in there ... at which point there were no wipes or obscure brochure. I came to try a new chain but I would've paid roughly the same at my local Jiffy Lube that opened at 8am and been done by 8:30. Likely won't revisit read more

I would not recommend this place. Took the car here for for new tires and had to go back twice to get them balanced, which they are still not right. Next got a screw in the tire and there was a slow leak. They said it wasn't repairable and I would have to buy a new tire. I took it to America's tire in Walnut Creek and they fixed the tire for no charge. With an appointment, I was in and out of Amercia's tire in less than an hour. Have been going to Meineke in Martinez for years because it is close to home and have a credit card for them. In April 2021, under new management, I took my car in for an evaporator condenser can replacement. Robert (new manager) said the rack and pinion was also leaking, even though there were no spots on my driveway. And over the course of 5 months, a new alternator, tension belt, new power steering pump, several charges for diagnostic codes, and a variety of other needless charges, the total bills add up to $4700. Complained to the Bureau of Automotive Repair and they agreed and suggested to file with Small Claims Court, after the District Manager of Meineke agreed to pay all my money back and then never showed. Small Claims costs $334.95 to file but you get most of it back in court. I give Meineke a ZERO rating, when in fact I gave them a 5 in 2015. Terri C. read more

Belated huge THANKS to Steve of Meineke Car Care in Martinez! He came to my rescue, after others refused to! About 2 months ago, my car battery abruptly died in Martinez, after being parked all day at work. I just wanted to get home (24 miles away) after a hard day. So, first, I phoned my AAA Road Service for a simple battery jump. But AAA refused me!!! What?!! Why?!! AAA told me it would be my 5th service call of the year; but AAA only grants 4 helps per year, no exceptions! Nevermind the fact I've paid for their plan for over 35 years, but hardly ever used it before the past 1. And nevermind the fact I also pay AAA to insure my car & home too. No exceptions! Yikes! I had no idea where any other car help is in Martinez. And I have no pals there to call for help either. I only know how to get to my job there, and, back home. So I had to sleuth it on Google. I phoned about 3 different Martinez car service shops I found online. But all told me "No," because it was too close to their closing time. Or else they were already closed. Then, I tried this Meineke shop. Frankly, I never heard of them before seeing their online ad. But their Steve kindly agreed to come help me. Yay!!! He arrived soon, which made it even better. He knew stuff to check for first, before doing the jump, to make sure what the issue was. Yep, battery. Then he did the jump. Got my car up & running in mere minutes. Plus he was fun to chat with too. If not for this help from Steve of this Meineke shop, all my next options would've been terribly complicated. If I ever need car help in Martinez again, I'll be sure to try this Meineke shop FIRST. In the meantime, I hope his boss sees this, and gives Steve a bonu$. He truly deserves it! read more
