This was mind blowing. I'm from out of town and my Uncles car needed service. I seen an "Instant" Oil change place and thought to myself...yeah right. I called, and the wait time was stated as 15 minutes...again, yeah right. So I map it out, 5 minutes from OHSU and Portland roads are crazy FYI. So again, I said yeah right. I get there in good time, and was immediately greeted by a happy guy who says the wait is less than 10 and they'll take care care of me. So, I unbuckle and start to get and was advised that everything will be done while immigrants the car so just hang out and they'll take care of me. I'm shocked and everything he said was true. About $75 for Synthetic, filter change and fluids topped off in a total time including driving time of 30 mins from OHSU and back. I brought my car into Valvoline Instant Oil Change for an oil change and was told that I needed a new battery. I agreed to have them install a new battery in my car. After pulling out of their shop, my car started to shudder. I turned my car around and told them about the shuddering. They were confused and needed to call their shop manager. Apparently, after a battery is disconnected from some cars, the car needs to relearn how to idle. After the person at the shop was told to look at a YouTube video on his phone to run me through the idle relearning process, my car acted like normal. However, I was surprised that they didn't know that the car would need to relearn to idle after they changed the battery. Don't they change out batteries all the time? Several months later, I went to my trusted mechanic to have my brakes changed. After my brake change, they mentioned that the battery in my car wasn't the right size. They recommended that I take my car back to the place where I got the new battery and have them put in the correct sized battery. I took my car back to Valvoline Instant Oil Change and told them I wanted the correct size battery placed in my car. The manager was brought over to my car to take a look. I overheard him tell the man who was helping me that the battery installed in my car was correct, but that the battery bracket had been modified by someone. The man who was helping me repeated to me what his manager told him. I had certainly never modified the battery bracket. I called up my mechanic and they laughed at the suggestion that the battery bracket had been modified. They insisted that the battery currently in my car was the incorrect size. They told me the size of the battery my car needed so Valvoline Instant Oil Change would know what battery to use. The people who work at my trusted mechanic's shop have a lot more education and experience working on cars than anyone working at an instant oil change shop. So, I called the manager at Valvoline Instant Oil Change. He said that, according to a catalog he had, that they installed the right battery the first time. He told me that he wouldn't put the battery I wanted in my car unless the people at Interstate Batteries told him he could change it. He gave me the phone number of Interstate Batteries. I called up customer service at Interstate Batteries and they told me that my car could use two different sizes of batteries. They both had the same amps, but one was larger than the other, and that was what my car needed. He agreed to call the manager at Valvoline Instant Oil Change to tell him that the larger battery should be installed in my car. I didn't hear from the store manager about swapping out my battery, so I called up the person I spoke with at Interstate Batteries. He told me that he called the store manager and explained to him that he could put in the larger battery I requested. He told me that the store manager hung up on him and wouldn't pick up the phone when he attempted to call back. He also told me that, if the store manager were to swap out an already used battery, he would be responsible for the cost of the second battery. That said it all. The store manager would rather lose a customer than take responsibility for installing the wrong battery. I will never go back to another Valvoline Instant Oil Change. I used to go there for years, and rarely had an issue with oil changes. They've over tightened oil filters at least a couple times, which isn't good for your car. I've never enjoyed their many upsells, but they seemed like a good enough place to go for simple oil changes. Over time, I began to realize just how little the people who work there know about cars. They talk with the confidence of actual mechanics, but they're not. I really didn't appreciate the way I was treated when requesting the correct battery for my car. A battery that sits loose in your car will reduce the life of the battery. They would rather lose a long-time customer than make things right. And, that's exactly what they got. If you just want an oil change, you'll probably be fine, but don't let them do anything else to your car. read more

Unprofessional, I was waiting over an hour I was swapped around multiple times because it's first come first serve which I appreciate. As I shifted lanes with a car that got there almost forty five minutes after I had been waiting. They were put in the bay before I was. Ryan and his crew were so wonderful to me today! I'm one of those people who don't know much about their car and I had a warning light popping up that I wasn't sure what it meant. Turns out that I had a brake light out! Ryan fixed it for me essentially at the cost of the part. I had an oil change (-$5 coupon on their site!) and the light fixed for roughly $60 for my Fiat 500. Stopped by to get an oil change on my ecoboost F150. I am usually one to go the the dealer, and perhaps remember the day of not great quick oil change shops. The upselling, selling you a flush, or stripping your oil pan etc. Wow, I guess things have changed. Didn't have time for dealer so came here secondary to good reviews. Ryan the manager came out and explained you stay in your car for the change. Asked what oil I wanted and upfront with how much and price for things like full synthetic. Drove into the bay after he did a light check. They then go through a nice check process. Check lights, battery, your air filter. He didn't try to upsell me on anything. Anything offered he accepted a quick no or yes. He was very polite and you can watch the process on some cameras under the vehicle. Ryan runs a young crew of guys, as expected in these type of places, but you could tell they were having a good time/ smiling/ and running the checks as they went. They do a nice call out at the end checking the dipstick/ oil cap etc is all on. Ryan runs a tight ship and the guys were great. Honestly, I was shocked it was so good. I really have to re-evaluate my thoughts on these types of quick lube shops. Great experience out in about 25 minutes. I will be back for sure, and highly recommend these guys. I came here for an oil change, then they told me multiple other things I NEEDED done so I got it done, paid for it all (which I see on my receipt that I did pay for it). Within a week I had to take my car in for something unrelated and checking fluids was just procedure there- they said the oil was black and was due to be changed, I looked at it too and saw for my own eyes!. So Valvoline clearly didnt change my oil, yet charged me for it which I had to have redone. They try to sell so many services and random parts to you but then dont even do what you came in for? Beware of getting scammed! I used Oil Can Henry's a number of times and found them to be reasonably honest. However, the franchise was purchase by Valvoline Instant Oil in 2015. The new franchise uses your typical sleazy tactics of pushing additional services you don't need. In my case, I came in for a standard oil change and after they pushed several add ons (coolant flush, transmission oil, brakes, etc - each costing upwards of $100 - $200) I accepted the differential flush for $140 after they said Subaru recommends changing it every 15,000 miles. Turns out, Subaru doesn't recommend ever changing this fluid but just a visual inspection every 30,000. Valvoline also said my oil should be changed every 3,000 where as Subaru recommends 7,500 miles, probably because it uses synthetic oil. The point is Valvoline corporate has rigged their database to push extra services you don't need. Before you go there, download the service chart for your vehicle so you know what is really needed. Only reason why I didn't give them one star is because the manager was exceptionally nice and gave me a full refund. Overall the experience with the employees was very positive. I think this is mostly an issue with corporate rigging the system to push extra services you don't need. read more

Came here for an oil change and to have a belt replaced, they were friendly and up front and repaired my car quickly. About a month later I returned because the problem I initially came in for had come up again (belt making an extremely loud, obnoxious squealing noise when I drove...yikes) they fixed it quickly again for me, explaining that new belts often need to be readjusted after they break in a bit. They didn't charge me for the repair and were incredibly helpful and friendly once again. Will definitely be returning for future oil changes and repair needs. Thanks guys! read more

Well, I just went to get an oil change. Pulled in the bay, and before I could close my door and hand the service attendant my keys, he asked me to not wander around. He then said I could step outside the bay doors. I barely was able to let the door close on my car before I wanted to leave. I got back in my car and will not return to a Valvoline center. I understand they have safety regulations, but I don't think that should interfere with good customer service. read more

I brought in my own oil & filter as my car has specific instruction to use Mobile1. know that many believes Mobile1 and valvoline are compatible, but I prefer to stay with Mobile 1 0w-40 full syn. the most important part for me was, they double check their work. They made sure, there is no leak at the filer and oil plug after change. they made sure air filer, fluid cap were all secured plus they applied coupon at check out.
