Dang good Chinese food. Beats my Dallas faves by a long shot. The hunan chicken is spicy perfection and they give you enough for half the Duggar family. As for the fried rice... sign me the heck up any day of the week. Along with the egg drop soup. The inside was also very cool (hence the 5 stars, because it was 103 in Texas today) while I waited maybe 15 min. for my order to be made/packaged up to-go. And it was during busy dinner hour. Ok so, I ordered pan fried noodles, chicken lo mein, chicken chow mein & a lunch special "Hunan chicken". Well, the pan fried noodles get a 1.5, the lo mein gets a 2.5, the Hunan chicken gets a 3.5 and the chow mein gets a 1.5. Maybe I chose the wrong entrees but these particularly were a bit of a disappointment in the overall outcome. I won't go into specifics but will never purchase my Chinese from here again. Final words are: Decent if you're starving, not really if you want good Chinese food. Hopefully their food improves with time and maybe some better chefs/spices & vigor. I realized tonight that I've been coming here for like two years and not reviewed this place yet... I love Van Chan's! It is my favorite Chinese place. While the building might be a little out dated in some ways the food is fantastic. It's full a flavor and their portion sizes are worth every penny. Our favorite but they sometimes get the order wrong if you customize at all. We ordered a delivery of steam chicken and vegetable with garlic sauce on the side as a healthy alternative. I remember now why I don't eat at this place. We order almost $50 in food to receive more carbs then meat. My crispy shrimp cost almost $12 just to receive crispy noodles with only small 8 shrimps. I happened to go to this restaurant yesterday . I ordered hot and sour soup and orange chicken. The soup tasted like plastics or heavy metal chemicals just like bleach or detergent . I ordered broccoli chicken for takeout. When I got home and opened it up that's literally what I got, gray slivers of chicken and 2 lb of broccoli. No sauce, no other vegetables, no seasonings. I used to go here all the time with my husband and usually had a great experience. However, the quality of the food has gone down (maybe new management?) and customer service skills are seriously lacking. I just ordered delivery and they quoted me 45 minutes. A little over an hour later and food still wasn't delivered. I called them to ask for something off my bill, and they weren't apologetic or willing to take anything off my bill, saying it wasn't their fault if the traffic was bad, they were busy, ect. (We live 3 miles away and I ordered at 4:23pm. Pretty sure most people don't order food that early.) Even so, they should've quoted me a more accurate window if traffic really was the case. I was shocked to find that only added 3 pieces of broccoli and 4 snow peas and yes I paid extra money for those seven pieces. When I called the manager and part owner she said "that is how it comes". She did not care that I was dissatisfied and did not try in any way to resolve the issue. Egg drop soup was grossly too salty. I had to add my own low sodium chicken broth to make it near edible. The beef in the beef and broccoli could not be chewed or should I say it was so tough that you had to chew and chew and chew. Do yourself a favor and don't go. So the last three times I have been here I have been very disappointed. They have changed the way they cook the items I always order, and have substituted inferior ingredients each time. We live in Greenville where there are zero Chinese restaurants and since my husband travels to Rockwall every so often, we decided to give Van Chans a try....wish I would have read these reviews 1st. I had the Chicken Fried Rice - a staple dish that tells a lot about a place - terrible! It had a burnt taste like they used something very old when cooking. My husband had the sweet and sour combo (chicken, shrimp and pork) it was horrible. Too much breading along with that burnt taste. Portion size is big, but the food quality is low. I paid 28.00 at the counter and got handed a paper plate, plastic fork and a cheap napkin. The rice had hard pieces in it like it had sat there for a bit. Let me start off by saying, as -PREVIOUS- long time and happy customer off Van Chan's (circa -2011), I'm really taken aback by the customer service we received tonight. I regarded Van Chan's as a restaurant that valued their relationships with new and established patrons alike. But, in recent years, there's been a steady decrease in food quality and DEFINITELY CUSTOMER SERVICE. I believe it's the new owner/manager lady. Not sure if she hates people or owes the Flying Dutchman her soul and is doomed to work at Van Chan's for eternity. Either way, she always seems bothered and agitated. That being said... We called in an order for pickup (@ 8:50) tonight that was repeated back correctly but still prepared wrong. We called back and after speaking with the sweet young ladies at the front desk, were unceremoniously yelled at by the manager in the background that we'd have to drive all the way back to exchange the food. Food that they're going to throw out... but . We live outside the delivery zone and it was already after 9pm so, we asked if there was anything else to do to resolve the issue. There wasn't. Nothing for the inconvenience. No matter that the mistake was on their end. This is ridiculous and I will inform all of my friends of this silly, stupid, money first and customers last policy before they're blindsided like we were. read more

We recently relocated to the Rockwall area from Uptown and love our Chinese food. We stumbled on Van Chan's getting to know the area, We were pleasantly surprised. It was as good as it gets, I had the spicy chicken and it was loaded with chicken, onions, and bell peppers. The sauce was heavenly. To die for! We are eating it once a week! Best Chinese from Dallas or anywhere we have tried. We also have done delivery and it always arrives within 30 minutes or less. The delivery driver is warm and friendly. The food is hot and the portions or enough for three people. Especially the Combo Fried Rice. I would recommend you all to try this place.
