I noticed a burning smell coming from my dryer after the vents were cleaned. Although Google indicated that it was probably a normal burning-off of lint, I called Van Deutch just to be sure (better safe than sorry when it comes to possible fire hazards). Ben and Omar arrived 30 minutes later ON A SATURDAY and got right to work taking the dryer apart to inspect it (nothing wrong with the dryer, thankfully). Ben hooked my washing machine back up on request and checked for proper operation and leaks. Ben and Omar were quick, professional, and I felt completely comfortable with them and their work. My refrigerator started having problems (Freezer went up to 27 degrees, refrigerator to 42) on the SUNDAY of LABOR DAY WEEKEND. I called VD Repair ... and left a message implying a bit of urgency. I'm behind in my review writing, but wanted to stop and recommend Van Deutch Appliance Repair. As usually happens at our house, in the midst of other repair work going on, our clothes dryer stopped working. We were fortunate to have been dealing with Darrel of The Traveling Toolbox for our other projects and, while he doesn't do appliance repair himself, he recommended calling Van Deutch about the dryer. What a score! I called Van Deutch around 1 o'clock on a weekday afternoon and left a message. Ben returned my call in about 20 minutes and arranged to come by the house a short time later. He quickly diagnosed the problem and had the needed replacement part on his truck. He replaced the broken part and then fully cleaned out the entire dryer and made sure everything was in tip-top order so we wouldn't run into any other problems. Less than two hours after my initial call, our dryer was back up and running great and at a cost lower than we expected. I also have to agree with the other reviewers that Ben is an incredibly pleasant guy to be around! I stood by and watched while he worked and he explained everything he was doing and really seemed to know his stuff. He's friendly and professional and just a very nice man. Let me start by saying this is my first ever yelp review! I had to do it for Ben! He is the nicest, sweetest, hardest working guy. I am always afraid of getting things fixed, because I am scared of being overcharged for things. Not with Ben! He came over earlier than expected, he diagnosed my fridge right away and let me know it was pretty bad news... I would need a new compressor, which would cost me more than my entire fridge cost me! He got to thinking right away and went to his truck and pulled out spare parts and did his best to give me at least a temporary fix. I could not be MORE grateful for his wonderful service and genuine hard work. Absolutely amazing. Hopefully I won't need him again, but if I did, he will be my first and only call for a repair man!! I have been using Van Deutch Appliance Repair now for the last 3+ years and have nothing but good things to say about Ben and his Van Deutch Appliance services. I currently manage nearly 1,000 units and am glad to have a great vendor that I can rely on when I am not there as a witness to see what can or should be done. Ben is well aware of the cost of new appliances and the cost of repairing an old appliance. He makes good judgement calls on whether to repair an older appliance or to save money on an old unit and to inform me to purchase a new one. He does not sell appliances so by doing so he is not making money on informing me on replacing an appliance. He warrantys his work and have had not many call backs for as much work as he performs on a daily basis with my company. Most of the callbacks are from tenants not using the appliance properly and causing the issue to reoccur by misuse themselves. I left a message after hours thinking the owner would call and schedule an appointment the next day. Instead Mr. Van Deutch called and made arrangements to come out that evening to check out the HE washer that was making funny noises. He did a thorough examination, taking things apart. He couldn't find anything wrong but said it sounded like the bearings were wearing out He also said that it would cost a lot to replace the bearings and advised me to load the machine lightly to make it last as long as possible. He was very knowledgeable and competent. I was extremely pleased with his service. I felt the $35 fee for the call and his work in searching for the problem was justified. (It would have been deducted from the repair bill if there had been one.) I will certainly call on Mr. Van Deutch for any future problems with any appliance that needs repairing. read more
