I like Van Leeuwen ice cream. This location isn't the best since it's in the lower level of Grand Central so it's crowded and a little dingy but service was pretty efficient. What I didn't like was that they take your order at the front and if there's a line, people are blocking the entire case so you can't really see what options there are and you have to wait for them to be served so you can see what flavors are available. It would be great if they had a list of what flavors are on offer. Staff was friendly enough but the logistics could be improved. And also, if you have an at risk person who definitely has mental issues flailing at you while you're standing it line, that kind of kills the vibe, but that's not Van Leeuwen's problem...that's more GCT and society in general.

Really enjoyed the ice cream sandwich. Two fresh cookies filled with any ice cream flavor of your choice. Excellent dessert. That said, you likely won't be able to finish it.

Tuesday are free first topping! How fun. Pretty quick service. Got the banana pudding with sprinkles.

Van Leeuwen has some of the best flavors out there. Honeycomb is my go to. first time I tried it, it instantly stuck with me. The Earl Grey is also really good and has become one of my favorite flavors, super unique. They seem to have an endless rotating menu so there's always something new to try. Totally worth checking out this summer !!

I stopped in before catching an afternoon train on a hot day looking for something sweet. The ambiance is upbeat and the servers were professional and friendly - had great recommendations for topping combinations. The seating is limited and during a rush it may get crowded fast; however a great spot if you're looking for something sweet!

I've had Van Leeuwen several times now and I honestly feel like all their flavors kind of taste the same lol. Like their ice cream isn't bad, I just feel like it's not the best ice cream place in the world. I still go back to them though since I sometimes am in the Grand Central area and this location is so convenient. December 2024 visit: earl grey, strawberry matcha, vegan peanut butter brownie honeycomb February 2025 visit: I don't remember everything I got but I know I got their peanut butter brownie honeycomb as one of the flavors because I love peanut butter and I think dulce de leche was the other flavor September 2025 visit: vegan strawberry matcha, vegan strawberry shortcake, vegan banana bread pudding with fudge swirls My favorite flavors out of all of these would be their vegan peanut butter brownie honeycomb and vegan banana bread pudding with fudge swirls. What do I like about their ice cream though is that it's not too sweet. I'm lactose intolerant and back when I had their dairy flavors, I didn't have a bad reaction to their ice cream either which is nice considering many ice cream places have made run to the bathroom one hour later.

I looove Van Leeuwen ice cream, but had only had it from the grocery store which, while delicious, I'm sure does not compare to the real deal from the scoop shop and I was right! The grocery store pints are great, but getting to try the ice cream from this place at Grand Central, was even better. I got two flavors and surprisingly the dairy free banana bread flavor was SO good and my favorite! I would never have known it was dairy free - it was still super rich, creamy, and flavorful. Going to a Van Leeuwen shop was definitely on my bucket list for NYC and I'm so glad we were able to make it happen!

Stumbled upon this ice cream place, very fresh, very clean. Lots of flavors. Little pricey but appeared to be quality product. Good size portion. Friendly, helpful staff. Great flavor. Would recommend and return. Second floor of grand central

Hot fudge tantalizing my taste buds on top of my Bigface Coffee Affogato flavor ice cream. Can't decide if I like the hot fudge or the ice cream better. Will be back to try more flavors.

I came on a Tuesday afternoon. Not very busy around, but bustling area of course being in grand central. None of the staff were that friendly, but it's NYC. I was warm so I wanted something cold to drink. I ordered a milkshake with 2 different flavors. They accommodated that. The milkshake was very good. I didn't love the price of $11. But again NYC. Basically I got what I came for, but would I rave about it to anyone? no. Would I go back again? Probably not.

I specifically like earl gray. I tasted chocolate and brown sugar cookie dough and they were both good too. It was flavorful, creamy and smooth.

Visiting from Bay Area & being loyal to my Salt n Straw and thinking there's no better ice-cream, I was blown away by this spot. Fantastic variety of flavours, rich, creamy and absolutely delicious treats. We sampled the Sicilian pistachio, passion fruit and affogato. They were all great, however passion fruit was a bit too sweet for me. We finally got a double scoop of the affogato and dark chocolate fudge brownie on a waffle cone and were off on our way to catch the train back home! Absolutely devoured the icecream & definitely coming back for more before end of our east coast trip. Edit - we went back for a second one the next day ;)

There are different types of cold treats: gelatos and more slushie like consistency frozen confections that are served in a cup. My vegan friend appreciated that he could choose from multiple vegan flavors, not just be limited to the one and only offering, which is what most places usually have. Melon flavor was incredible. Tasted like frozen melon was crushed with ice and chopped into an ice/smoothie blend. Super refreshing. Very sweet, though. All flavors are very sweet, so a small portion can be shared and you will feel satisfied. I personally enjoyed their in-house special flavor of gelato: honey cream with crushed almonds, pistachios, and hazelnuts. That was bombastic! Love how nutty the consistency was. I love nuts, so this almost reminded me of a chunky peanut butter situation: just more fine grained and smooth, with gelato being the base. Highly recommend trying this flavor! Focacia was okay. A bit too dry and bland for my liking, but still decent. My favorite item was the pistachio bombolone which is officially now my favorite dessert. This was magnificent! The yeasty dough was so light and airy--perfectly light and balanced. The filling of pistachio cream was very delicate and not sweet at all, which was such a nice surprise. I do not like saccharine dessert. The fresh raspberry jam was a perfect balance to the pistachio cream. I never like jams in my desserts, but this was a perfect complement. Woooow, what a treat! Can't wait to return for it and to try more of their other flavors--hazelnut & chocolate, coconut, white chocolate, tiramisu. You could taste the superb quality of the ingredients. Highly recommend.

Upon arrival we noticed the difference in crowds. Not as busy and packed sidewalks. Also it was a lot cleaner than Chinatown. Since we just ate at C-Town, it was time to find a good dessert place in K-Town. So we walked and we walked until I saw a banner sign showing shaved ice desserts. Then I noticed the name of the business is Grace Street. How fitting, because that is my wife's name. So we went in and what caught my eye was a mango shaved ice with mangoes, mochi, strawberries, and condensed milk, however I was over ruled by my wife and we went with the black sesame and mochi and condensed milk. It also had red bean, but that had to be on the side, since that gives me gout. Such nice staff taking orders and we went into the dining area to find a seat. What a large spacious area with many tables. Our order came out and it looked so good. The black sesame shaved ice or snow as it's also referred to as, was perfectly sweetened by the condensed milk and the chewy mochi. Definitely cleaned my pallet from our Chinese lunch and it helped cool me down from the New York heat. We got water, but there was no ice offered, so I asked one of the workers and he was kind enough to get me some. We are through that dessert like, if we didn't finish it fast, it was going to melt. We did not give it a chance to melt one bit. The staff here are efficient, as they saw we were done, they asked to clear our dessert bowl away. It was a nice experience even if it was just dessert. They definitely had more dessert options to offer, but i

The quality of the ice cream was excellent, medium creamy & very smooth with the teeniest bit of corn blended. Sampled the hazelnut which was great also - like a thick gelato. Would like to try the lychee next time. They have probably 20 different flavors, displayed well. The staff is patient & very nice. The space is very big for a business in the East Village with mostly a waiting area. 4-5 seats are up front & they set up a few plastic chairs on the side. On a 90°F day, the shop was filled with customers & groups. A stantion at the door with directions for 2 lines would help manage things better.
