The service is always great. Sometimes the Moms and Dads visiting their kids at NYU clog up the front with a LOT of questions, but usually very quick for a large waffle cone with 2 scoops. This ice cream shop has been around forever - 2000's maybe & is just slightly off the busy area of St. Mark's but deserves the attention! Don't remember what I had the previous 20+ years I went there after a group dinner. This time I was influenced & specifically took a bus over for their corn ice cream. It's STILL the summer of corn. Prices are now average - good for a scoop $7.50 & the portion is good compared to other craft ice cream shops in LES. The corn flavor was good. Medium flavor with that corn sweetness. The quality of the ice cream was excellent, medium creamy & very smooth with the teeniest bit of corn blended. Sampled the hazelnut which was great also - like a thick gelato. Would like to try the lychee next time. They have probably 20 different flavors, displayed well. The staff is patient & very nice. The space is very big for a business in the East Village with mostly a waiting area. 4-5 seats are up front & they set up a few plastic chairs on the side. On a 90°F day, the shop was filled with customers & groups. A stantion at the door with directions for 2 lines would help manage things better. read more

I'm kind of obsessed with this place. Not every flavor is good but the flavors that are good are VERY good. I think they make one of the best ginger ice cream out there. There's a good bit of ginger flavor as there's even a bit of spice in the ice cream. In addition, they put a lot of candied ginger in as well so each bite you get to taste the flavors. Also, the portion sizes are significantly bigger than at other ice cream shops - I can get one scoop and not crave more ice cream which doesn't always happen as a self-proclaimed ice cream addict. I visited on a weekend evening, and it was very busy. The employees were super efficient and kept the lines moving along. I was impressed by the gorgeous cakes that were on display, with so many pastel colors and fun designs! There was a fair amount of seating, but we had to wait a bit to snag a table since there were so many customers. The store's range of ice cream flavors looked absolutely amazing. There was a mix of both classic flavors and creative, unique flavors (Thai tea and taro were both delicious options). The individual scoops of ice cream were honestly a bit pricey, but I thought their "build your sundae" option was super reasonable. You could get three scoops of ice cream sandwiched between banana halves with various toppings for an affordable price. Stopped by for a quick treat after dinner. The inside is a bit dark/not the most well-kept, so I was a little put off at first, but I thought overall the ice cream was delicious, if not a bit pricey. I would highly recommend the green tea rose swirl - I love matcha, and it worked super well with the aromatic floral flavours of the rose mixed in. Like I said, price point is on the high side (~$10 for 2 scoops) but nothing too crazy for NYC nowadays. We had the Matcha rose ice cream and black sesame ice cream. The black sesame ice cream is so rich and nutty, and you can taste the black sesame seeds in it as well. The texture of the black sesame was what stood out to me. Every scoop had little bits of ground up sesame which to me, tells me they use real ingredients. I really liked the taste overall. Would say it's a "must try" if you're a fan of sesame ice cream. The matcha rose was refreshing as well. I thought it complimented the black sesame well. There wasn't a bitter matcha taste but you do taste the matcha and rose flavor there. Staff was attentive and polite too! They let us taste test flavors without rushing us. I like that they have a lot of east asian inspired flavors like black sesame, ube, etc. While I liked their ice cream, I think the ice cream game has changed and improved immensely over the last ten years and I'm not sure that I would place them in my top 5 ice cream spots in NYC anymore - but you will still get a good scoop of ice cream here and if I were in the area I would consider coming back. We called in the day of and asked for cake options to be picked up same day. They were kind enough to write a custom message on it, free of cost. They're very thorough on the phone: taking payment upfront, custom message with confirmation of correct spelling, attempting to describe the aesthetic of the cake to us, etc. I felt rest assured that nothing would go wrong (IT DIDN'T!) There was quite an applause for the quality of the frosting, which people mentioned reminded them of a very light and less sweet melted marshmallow. The flavor of the cake was exquisite--the taro and lavender melted together in harmonious bliss. The size was perfect for the party of 6 of us, and even the hosts were able to grab an extra slice each. Price was reasonable for an ice cream cake at quick notice. I definitely wouldn't have trouble encouraging myself to buy another cake just for the pure taste of it. Marvelous--no critique necessary. I'm so thankful that they had a floral and Asian inspired flavor profile in stock. All the other options weren't up my alley, so this was super clutch. This ice cream shop is one of my favorite ice cream shops in NYC! Love that it's family and Asian owned (I've seen the cantonese workers on multiple occasions). The workers are very quick and efficient and the ice cream flavors are diverse and yummy. The inside is quite big and there's limited seating indoors. This place can get crowded, especially if it's hot outside or it gets later into the day and it's dessert time. My go to is always black sesame without a doubt - super rich and literally tastes like having bites of black sesame. I've tried lavender which was seasonal and good, and I just tried the pistachio almond which is really good too! Not the greatest pistachio I've had, as the taste is more subtle, but still good nonetheless with the almond pieces. I'd recommend coming here anytime!! Sundaes and Cones remains a casual friendly ice cream fantasy island that offers classic flavors (like Chocolate, Cookie Dough, etc.) as well as more off-the-beaten path ones that feel Asian influenced like (Sesame, Taro, etc.)...ice cream cones, cups, pints, etc. are available along with sundaes, milkshakes, egg creams, and more. the concentration on ice cream quality is so clear and palpable that you can taste it from first bite to last. i have toured through many of the flavors--the mint chocolate chip is so good. mintiness that is NOT chemically enhanced but tastes like actual mint, smooth cream ice cream that is not overly sweet, and even the chocolate chips are thinly shaven, solidly chocolatey, and have some snap to them. typically, i order a cone upside down in a cup to enjoy spoonfuls of ice cream with the crunch of the cone as my final bite treat. tbh, any of the flavors of ice creams or sorbets are going to be good and hardly ever miss. the ice cream hits the spot whether it is winter, spring, summer, or fall. to me, spring (or early fall) is a sweet spot for ice cream when it is just warm enough that you want something cool and sweet with the weather allowing easy walks throughout the East Village. however, whenever you decide to give Sundaes and Cones a spin is a good call whether it's a frozen tundra of winter or NYC's humid summer. the ice cream parlor has some seating with benches outside. it's very clean and well-maintained with that soft warm ice cream parlor vibes of years long since passed. as the weather warms up, lines here build especially during the weekends as well as after dinner times. staff are friendly and patient. there's not a better recipe for an evening walk in NYC than dinner in the East Village, then walk over to Sundaes and Cones, and enjoy that sweet life stroll as you explore a neighborhood and devour that fine ice cream!* *all that praise aside, i got a Americano coffee here recently and i would say it was passably good. while i won't ding my rating of Sundaes and Cones bc it is really an outstanding ice cream place, i'd bypass the coffee menu here as the staff here don't seem to be well-versed in coffee-making from my recent experience and probably don't make coffee drinks enough to have it down packed. read more

I had begun to give up my search for the best ice cream in NYC when I happened to see Sundaes and Cones on my way back from a nearby restaurant. The interior is designed like a modern take on the traditional ice cream parlor setup. There are a few seats to sit down both inside the shop. The top two things I look for in ice cream are 1) flavor infused (not vanilla + mix-in) and 2) creaminess. Sundaes and Cones delivered on both of these criteria! I got a single scoop of taro ($6.30), and I was also pleasantly surprised this was taro (not ube)! If you like firmer ice cream, you probably won't appreciate the consistency as much as I did. My one reservation with this shop is the price point. I went back and forth on whether or not to dock a star because $6 for a single scoop without toppings is very pricey. That being said, when I go back, I need to see if they accept cash, because I'm pretty sure there was a credit card fee (price on menu is about $5.50 for single scoop). I will definitely be back to try the other flavors, and I will update the review accordingly.
