The office is set in a relaxing Hill Country setting with free parking shaded by live oak trees. The serene surroundings and organized, clean office, conveniently situated close to downtown yet much less stressful, are exactly what you hope to find in a medical office setting. Also impressive: The online check-in process was made available in advance; the welcoming, friendly front desk staff person helped me find the office after Apple Maps misdirected my navigation; and the attentive medical assistant ensured I felt comfortable and informed before seeing the doctor. Dr. Craig Thomajan was excellent--he took the time to explain everything clearly, answered my questions thoroughly, and his calm expertise put me at ease. I left feeling well cared for and with a clear understanding of my treatment plan. Now that I know what going to a podiatric physician involves, I won't hesitate to return in six weeks for my next appointment. I highly recommend Austin Foot and Ankle Specialists to anyone seeking expert, compassionate foot and ankle care in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

When I met Dr. Shock -- his first words to me were "How about we get this fixed up?" -- I was stunned after living with this pain for over 2 years. :) It turned out that I had a torn 'longus peroneal tendon' that he was able to diagnose with an MRI. Why no other doctor thought of that before, I have no idea. I suffered through the injections, creams, socks, inserts with other doctors without any relief. I had the peroneal tenodesis surgery and was walking without pain within 2 weeks of surgery! Doctor Shock is an amazing doctor and just a very friendly and welcoming guy -- I feel like I've known him for years! :) I highly recommend him for any foot pain that you may be enduring now -- you can be completely confident that he will fix you right up!

I underwent bunion surgery on my right foot, along with correction of another toe. Unfortunately, the final outcome has been very disappointing. Following surgery, my big toe healed with a significant gap between it and my second toe, creating an unnatural appearance that has never improved. In addition, the toe that was corrected with a pin never healed properly and now "floats" rather than resting naturally on the ground. Despite prolonged taping and following the postoperative instructions provided, these issues never resolved. I became so dissatisfied with the outcome that I ultimately chose not to return for additional treatment. I understand that no surgery comes with guarantees, but I feel my concerns and the long term appearance and function of my foot were not adequately addressed. Years later, I remain unhappy with the results and regret having had the procedure performed. Based on my personal experience and outcome, I cannot recommend this surgeon.

The nerve injury is serious enough that I cannot risk damage to the foot or ankle so a toe off brace was suggested. My first one broke when a car nearly hit me in a crosswalk causing me to bolt to miss the car. Chase worked closely with me to identify a prescribed replacement brace (which eventually turned out to be the newly modified same brace by Allard) and was a huge help. His office manager, Stephanie, was very helpful in getting me through the scheduling, billing, and paperwork process. Just a great office with great people committed to do the best for you. I had been very unhappy with those experiences. When we saw chase, the difference was night and day. Chase was very knowledgeable, and was willing to take the time to fully understand my daughter's case and what we needed her AFO to do for her. He called the manufacturer immediately to ask if a particular adjustment would be suitable for that type of AFO and made the changes we needed quickly. As a bonus, he put my daughter at ease, which is saying something because she can take some time to warm up to new people.

Even though my prescription had the InStep logo printed on it didn't mean I had to buy there. It made me sad because I like them, but my insurance thinks they have cooties. I had to move on, for some of the stuff anyway. Some days are slower and you can just walk in, and sometimes you better have an appointment. I was lucky enough to be squeezed in recently, and was seen by Jason, an insert maker and professional helper of all feet problems. Jason's had feet problems himself, so when he got to work on making my carbon-plate insert, he suggested a bunch of other stuff I might need not just for the problem foot's shoe, but for the other shoe too. He was very knowledgeable of how to help, wonderfully efficient, and [easytolookat] friendly. The best part: for less than the price of the single plate at InStep, I got a custom plate for one foot and custom inserts with pads for both feet. Merry Christmas to me! The cutest office secretary works here, too. She was stylish, funny, and smart as a whip. If you don't like being called honey, sweetie, and baby, she'll change your mind. The whole office made my (foot's) day.

According to the information they gave me, the approved amount for that procedure would be about $90. Despite this, the office charged me $550 and did not attempt to submit the claim to insurance. They also billed me for an office visit on the same day--even though my insurance confirmed that I should not have been charged for a separate visit when a procedure was performed. Additionally, the anti‑fungal gel they sold me for $75 is available at another podiatrist's office for $40. UPDATE: The day after I posted this, I received a call from the office. They were very expedient about processing my due refund as requested. I am still waiting to see about the actual procedure claim as I find it difficult to believe the partial nail avulsion has no CPT code as they indicated to me. I was referred to Dr. Patel by my PCP to deal with an ingrown toenail (partial nail avulsion). While I was fairly satisfied with the outcome (though I feel it's already returning, and it has only been 2.5 months), the follow-up information so I can submit a claim to insurance to go toward my deductible has been abysmal. They told me the procedure was not typically covered by insurance, so I'd have to pay out-of-pocket. I also paid for each visit, knowing there would be a difference between what I paid and what insurance would approve (3 visits total, one including the day of the procedure. They charged me for both, a visit and the procedure on the same day). They told me if there was a difference, I could expect a refund for the difference. I later asked for the doctor's tax ID and CPT code for the procedure to submit to insurance. I thought it was a reasonable request. For 2 months my calls, texts, and emails have largely gone unanswered (when they did respond, it was not with the information I requested) and did not respond to requests for the correct info. Additionally, when I went to the portal to see my visit summary, the diagnosis code and procedure where not what had actually occurred during the visit. Between concerns about their billing practices and accuracy of procedure documentation, I am without a doubt, not returning to this practice and would not recommend it to anyone!
