Top tier location within the all the outposts they have simply based on the bartenders and staff. Great selection overall in terms of wine and food that can be enjoyed while you imbibe some vino. They do not provide table service. It is a decent sized location but you must order at the bar and sit wherever you'd like. If you're solo or with a plus one, the bar is the move. Anything more, it's definitely easier to grab a high top to enjoy the conversation. Ordering at the bar is easy and never chaotic no matter how busy they get. They rotate their menu from time to time as well as stock up on fairly similar replacements if a wine is out of stock. They'll allow you to enjoy a taste to make sure you like it.

Adorable wine bar in the upper west side! Plenty of seating available inside. I saw a lot of people even on a weeknight. It looked like a great spot to meet up with friends or even go on a date. The wine was delicious. I love red wine, and tried Domaine du Père Caboche, Châteauneuf-du-Pape '21. It had notes of chocolate, blackberry, raspberry and spice. The cheese boards were great to snack on. It's order at the bar and the service is amazing. Everyone is attentive and kind.

We were in the city looking for a cute wine bar close to everything and this place had a good wine selection to choose from. They do have small bites to eat but it's definitely a place to go to for the wine not food! Have no complaints and really enjoyed the ambiance

Came here on a weeknight for drinks- the bar was quite crowded- some ppl on first dates, friends etc- definitely a date-y vibe and not too pretentious. the service at the bar was great without being intrusive or feeling rushed. the front wall/frontage of the bar opens up so during warmer weather, sitting closer to the sidewalk might be really nice! anyway, didnt get to try the food but the ambience and drinks were excellent. would recommend to others!

One of the top experiences I've had at any wine bar stateside. The only reason for four rather than five stars is needing to continue making my way through the menu and wine list, which is something I plan to do by making this Vanguard my go-to spot every time I'm visiting Lincoln Center. Service was excellent (bartender and runner, and wow! Did that kitchen turn around that food order quickly. Very impressive considering the freshness of everything, especially the smoked salmon). Every element (ambiance, our order, and the staff) made for a welcoming and relaxed time, even though we were running late and on a very strict clock. The bar seating was comfortable and the noise level (mind you, on a Tuesday evening) was perfect. Vanguard has a very unique balance of being able to equally cater to a wide demographic spread while meeting everyone's needs. In our corner of the bar alone you had a regular with her work and iPad, we opera going (though regular) folk, and a casually-dressed pair, all content. It took me back to being in cafes and wine bars in Stockholm, which was a welcomed departure from NYC. Vanguard is solidly on my recommendation list.

I have come here twice and enjoyed myself both times. The manager allowed to place my large bags in a safe place as I sat at the bar. The first time I came here was to buy some time before eating at nearby sushi place and this place had the perfect selection of red and white wines. The Vanguard house cuvee was the first choice and was really pleasant. This time I got the Cuvee Sabrine which was even better. Complex, deep flavor... Come here for the wine, stay for the ambience and the apps.

As I walked in and saw just how swanky this place is I panicked - there was no way we could just walk in here without a reservation, right? But the hostess was, thankfully, so down to earth. I was straight up like hey I totally messed up and thought we could just walk in here, she was like you know what, let me see what we have. Lo and behold, she did have a table for us - as long as we were out in an hour and a half, which was just the right amount of time. Stepping into this place feels like you're in some secret, super special cocktail club. Decor is super high end, vibes are upscale AF. The cocktail menu is incredible -- and incredibly pricey, but truly worth it. I ordered the Valentino which was strong and sweet, really well made. They gave out a complimentary nut mix that was also delicious. Service was swift and gracious. If you're looking for a spot to impress a date, this is it.

There's also seating on the second floor, perfect for couples or small groups. I tried two of their cocktails when I went. The first was the Eastern Julep, a delicious twist on a classic. The mint Moroccan tea gave the drink a cool, refreshing taste on every sip. I also tried the Silver Screen, the closest drink I could find to an old fashioned. It was interesting, there was definitely a hint of a buttery taste. Overall a really balanced bourbon drink. I walked in and found room at the standing tables. A bar seat eventually opened up but I was already on my second drink by then. Definitely make reservations if you're planning a visit!

The bar seating was plentiful and comfortable. There is plenty of space for people to stand behind the bar or a high top tables enjoying happy hour after work. If you go at 4:30 or 5, it's a bit calmer as the after work crowd trickles in. And as the evening went on, it started to get more and more packed, and it became a really lively vibe. After my friend left for another function, I stuck around a little bit longer for a little solo dinner. I had a glass of Prosecco off the happy hour menu followed by a dirty martini, and I did request to look at their full dinner menu because there was a couple items that I wanted to try. I wanted to try the duck Ragu and halloumi cheese, both of which were absolutely fantastic. The halloumi cheese was perfectly grilled and flavorful, and the duck Ragu was very comforting. I highly recommend both dishes. I ended up chatting with a woman sitting next to me who happened to work with select apertivo, and next thing I know one of the bartenders handed me a lovely bright cocktail to try on the house. It was a refreshing bubbly Barlume spritz that I'll definitely have to get again next time. Overall, I had a really great time at Barlume. The service was excellent from the servers and the bartenders, and they were all very attentive, personable and friendly throughout the evening. I'll definitely be back for happy hour or dinner with friends!

Did you know this is where the Beecher's used to be?! RIP, I miss their Mac n cheese.... the vibe is completely different now (think extravagant Mediterranean vibes, it's very instagram-mable with the beautiful bar area). I had made a reservation for 5:30 (again, life with a baby is very different)- we arrived early but the staff were very gracious and were able to get us seated. They seated us in a side alcove area where they had cushioned seating, which was very helpful. What we Ordered: Drinks: Barlume Spritz and Hibiscus Mule (N/A cocktail)- drinks were good, nothing too special but we appreciated the cute stirrers Appetizer: Halloumi- grilled halloumi with roasted eggplant puree. The saltiness of the halloumi went so well with the creaminess of the eggplant. (Baby liked the eggplant puree too hah) Entrees: Lobster Arrabiatta and Duck Ragu and Truffle Pizza. My husband got the lobster arrabiatta and was raving about how delicious it was. He said it was the perfect level of spice. My duck ragu was served with busiate (a corkscrew shaped pasta) which I thought 'trapped' the sauce perfectly so you get a nice saucy bite each time. Pasta was perfectly al dente- my one gripe is that I felt the duck ragu was a bit too salty, which even managed to overpower the tomato flavor. We shared the truffle pizza, which came topped off with stracciatella, porcini mushrooms and shaved truffles. I liked the porcini mushrooms on the pizza, this was a first for me. For dessert (which we had to gobble down quickly because baby was starting to get fussy) we got the pistachio cake. SAVE SPACE IN YOUR STOMACH FOR THIS ONE!!! This was my favorite in the whole meal, the kataifi gives it that wonderful crumbliness and it went soooo well with the mango sorbet that's served with it. Recommend for a nice dinner with friends or a cool place to grab drinks! 4.5 stars

It's a small area with the tables pretty close together. We were given a table in the far corner, which was perfect for comfort and looking out at the restaurant. Two of us each ordered a glass of house wine, which were "ok." We opted for the Boqueria Experience, which is $65 per person and includes a variety of chef-selected tapas, a paella and an order of the restaurant's special JAMÓN IBÉRICO DE BELLOTA, which is described on the charcuterie menu as aged 48 months, with deep marbling, rich and nutty flavor. We enjoyed most of the tapas, including the potatoes, the beef/lamb balls, the salad and bruschetta. The croquettes were "ok" with the heavy aeoli masking some of the flavor. The seafood paella was good and was different from ones I've had in the past, with the caramelized layer on the bottom. Yum. Honestly, none of us was a big fan of the Jamon Iberico de Bellota. I'm sure it's special and luxurious, but we found it not to have much flavor. Frankly, it was a big disappointment for us. The service was beyond excellent. We were very pleased with the timing of the presentation of the meal, the superb water service and the general enthusiasm and pleasantness of the Staff. We will come back and try different items on the ala carte menu. I thought there would be more seafood and meat tapas offerings in the "Experience". Instead, it was a lot of cheese, vegetables, dates and bread. Although $65 per person likely was a good value for what we got, I think the tapas items were heavy on the lower cost tapas and that it wasn't a true top-of-the-line "Experience". A seafood dish or even a chicken dish (chicken wings) instead of one of the two croquette offerings would have helped.
