It has been a few weeks since my last visit. While under the dryer, I kept getting stared at from a woman who works there. Not once but several times I caught her, made her aware of it too. The hairstylist, would prefer I get a haircut and style in addition to the color/lowlights, which I don't want to fork over that kind of money in one sitting. Especially when I don't like the style like I had previously received. Over priced and pretentiousness. Too many other salons to choose from, no thanks to your disrespectful gawking. I love the place but their prices have gotten out of control. When your charging more then Chicago, something is wrong.

It's a good salon, professional but pricey. I had a bad style there last summer for my daughter's bridal shower because the stylist was on a time crunch and did a bad job on my hair. I don't find anything special about the salon which is why I quit going there after their latest price hike. Their products are also priced out of range for an average wage earner. DERMAPLANING DISASTER I scheduled an appointment at the Schererville Vanis Salon with an esthetician I've booked with before. This was the first time I was getting dermaplaning and it went HORRIBLY WRONG. 5 minutes into the session she accidentally SHAVED OFF PART OF MY EYEBROW but didn't mention anything until AFTER she was done with the initial dermaplaning. She tried to cover it up with makeup before showing me, which I insisted she take off, because I wanted to see the FULL DAMAGE. It was bad. THE MIDDLE AND TAIL END OF MY RIGHT EYEBROW WAS GONE. I am a full-time model and I had to cancel some scheduled shoots that I had going on later that week. Furthermore, I noticed the esthetician was distracted during our session. SHE HAD HER CELL PHONE OUT WHILE SHE WAS DERMAPLANING--dangerous and unfocused--which probably contributed to why my eyebrow was shaved off. After talking with the manager, my session was free and she offered me a free brow serum. At this point, I am unsure if my eyebrows will EVER be the same. It has taken me YEARS to grow out my brows the way I wanted them and that was RUINED IN ONE QUICK AND CARELESS SWEEP OF A DERMAPLANING BLADE. The Vanis director of operations called to apologize and ask if I wanted a free microblading session, but I declined. I did not feel safe or comfortable having ANY STAFF MEMBER of Vanis Salon in Schererville ever touch my face again. I hope this serves as a note of caution to people who hope to have the dermaplaning service done. My advice is to find a different salon--one with experienced dermaplaning estheticians who do not have their cell phones out during the session. Everyone deserves to have the full attention and time dedicated to them--especially when being worked on with sharp tools or chemicals. To me, all clients deserve full quality care of service and, unfortunately, Vanis showed me that they are unequipped to do so. read more

ETA: I love Anne Marie! Great stylist. Great personality and also helps you figure out how to stay in your budget. I've been to the Schererville Vanis twice now and have had a great experience both times. First time, I had Ashley as my stylist and the second time I had Kizzy. I had balayage for the first time with Ashley and she did a beautiful job. She also showed me how to style my hair myself. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of the cut/color turned out to be, which was discussed with me before her work began. I appreciated that. Also, I should point out, I thought their prices seemed to be not much more than Hair Cuttery. Second time with Kizzy I had some highlights plus balayage and it was the same price as my previous cut/balayage. Ann Marie was the shampoo girl and I had the most amazing massage of my life... on my head! Also neck. I was very happy with the results of the new 'do! Overall, time was managed well, appointment was easy to make, customer service was good and my stylists were personable. My hair looks great. This is the best salon in the region. With multiple locations (Crown Point, Schereville, Valpo), and a bad-ass reputation, you've got to visit Vanis for your hair and spa needs. I love this location. There is plenty of parking, and you're always greeted with a smile and offer of a drink. The hair stylists are professional, friendly, and damn good at their job. Megan, in my opinion, is the absolute best! She knows what I like (and what I don't!) and always delivers. If you don't like your hair, they will fix it immediately, no questions asked. I opt for highlight and cut, and although it can be "pricey", you simply cannot cheap out on your hair. The salon is clean and modern, with excellent customer service. I have also visited their spa for multiple services: facial, massage (hot stone-awesome!) and waxing. I was super nervous about my Brazilian wax before my wedding, and Rosa is super professional and thorough. Vanis is a cut above the rest. Hands down, the best! read more

After years of getting my hair cut and styled at a Michigan Avenue day spa, I decided to go closer to home and went to Vanis. Actually, I needed someone to fix the bad haircut I got from that downtown salon. They assigned Christian, and he worked a miracle, rescuing my hair style for my vacation trip. Since then I've returned to Christian multiple times and have always found him to be meticulous, warm, and fun to talk to. He works magic with his scissors. Was there again today, and he suggested something a little different for me, and wow! Was he ever right! I love the cut! And it is great value compared with the pricier downtown Chicago place. I want to check out some of their other services. But I'll be back to Christian for my next haircut, for sure! read more

After paying I still had a $ 90 balance, however, when I lok down in my purse to get a cash tip, the gift card disappeared, girl states I must have misplaced card. I did not, another woman in shop said the cashier put in her pocket. I argued but the manager said I must have placed in my purse. I emptied purse but no card. I end up without my $90 gift card. It's really a hit or miss depending on who you get. I have had some of the best blowouts done here but I've also had some of the worst blowout ever done here which at $40 a piece is very upsetting. Had Vanis handle my wedding hair and makeup last week and they went above and beyond! Jill, the wedding services coordinator, was constantly in contact with me and always handled anything I ever needed. She had drinks and a little table set up for my girls and I when we got there and it was so welcomed. The star of the show was and is, Luis. Luis and I worked really hard at nailing my wedding look at my trial and he suggested getting extensions for my wedding day. He nailed it. My hair looked SO fabulous. He took so much time and care into each and every curl. He calmed my nerves (stressful day ahead!) and kept me entertained from start to finish. His work was phenomenal and he deserves highest of praises. Jessie was my makeup artist and she was also just a total star. She came in from one of the other locations because my original artist couldn't be there that day. I explained to her my expectations and she aced the look I was going for. She explained everything and was so helpful at getting my airbrushed makeup done. Every one of my bridesmaids loved their stylists and loved their experience at Vanis. I've been going to this salon for a few years now. Yes they are very expensive and staff has always been friendly until today. I had a massage appointment that I was 15 minutes late for. As I was pulling up they called my phone to tell me I missed my appointment. I let them know that I was pulling up now and they told me they would not take me in. I had a bad last couple of days and was looking forward to my massage. I understand I was late but if their so big on customer service why couldn't they make an exception. There have been plenty of times I had to wait for a few minutes on my other appointments. Unfortunately I will not be going back anymore and will be taking my money elsewhere. I went there for highlights and hair touch up with a trim and paid $200.00. My side hair was not the same length as my back was anymore and after I washed it and began to blow dry I say pieces that was not trimmed and so I had to trim it off but the trim was 2 inches off with chopped layers that did not blend at all. read more

I been going to Vanis for almost 5 to 6 years now. I love stylists and the attention. My only complaint is the new washing bowls they just got. Im a bigger person and those bowls are for skinny people. When you sit down the handles dig in your hips and because you really cant sit properly the washing bowl hits you in a weird way. I am suprise that they wouldn't had realized that and had done something sbout it already. Specially knowing they have customers that are average size and larger. Vanis has always been on top of things and I believe this is the first time they have drop the ball in my opinion. I am hoping they do something about it read more

She has never steered me wrong but she has corrected many accidental hair blunders for me over the years. Everyone is very friendly! I will not spend another PENNY in this salon. The customer service by the front desk and manager was deplorable!!!! I was running late for a 9:45 appointment so i gave a curteocy call to say I was running behind. I checked the call time on my phone i was 2 mins late when i called. The rude person on the other line goes on about how they are already preparing for the next client. I asked what the policy was for clients that are running late she said 15 minutes. At this point im well within that time frame so im completely confused as to how she has moved on to the next client. The receptionist says we cant take you, Her tone of voice is rude and condescending. I asked if she could clarify the policy that didnt happen. I told her she didnt have to worry about me coming back to the salon she said a couple more rude thank yous and hung up. I had an appointment for a gel fill manicure for March 28, 2020. I received a call the week before to let me know due to the Shelter in Place order which was in place at that time, my appointment had been moved to April 1st. I was also told that if the Shelter in Place order was extended that I could expect a call from the Salon to reschedule as soon as possible. Since the Shelter at Home order did get extended I knew my April 1st appointment would be canceled but I assumed, as I was told, that I would get a call when the Salon began to reschedule clients. I never got a call. I tried calling the Salon a few times over the past few weeks but got no answer so I assumed they had not started to reschedule appointments. Today, April 28th I again called the Salon, heard a someone answer the phone only to be disconnected. This happened twice. Third call was answered by Olga who told me they were scheduling beginning May 11th. I explained that I had expected to receive a call to reschedule. She ignored that comment. Then she looked up my information and told me I could make a "tentative" appointment based on the premise that the current Shelter at Home order would be lifted or modified on May 1st. So I said okay assuming the appointment could be sometime the week of May 11th. She then informed me that the soonest appointment she had available with Faith was not until May 28th!? When I asked her what happened to anytime after May 11th she very rudely told me the 28th is the soonest. I asked her why I never received a call earlier to reschedule as I was told previously. She again totally ignored my question. Then I asked what happened to anytime after May 11th. Again she just ignored the question and said May 28th is the earliest. I then asked if I could at least be put on a list to be called if a cancellation for an earlier appointment became available. Although she said yes I am not certain I got put on a cancellation list. I had to ask her what time my appointment was on the 28th since she never stated a time. In a very put out manner she said she would have to look it up again. Once she verified the time and as I was asking again to verify that I was put on a call list for cancellations she very abruptly hung on me. I do know that Olga is part of the management team and I feel she is a very poor representation for a Salon that prides itself on client satisfaction. I realize that these are very trying times for everyone, small business owners included. I also realize that every woman in the state of Indiana is wanting the earliest appointment with their hair stylist, nail technician, esthetician, etc. but the Salon had weeks to put together a list of clients who would be called to reschedule based on the date of their cancelled appointments. I really like Faith and the Gel manicure I received at my initial appointment on March 14th. In fact, although the gel is badly in need of a fill the No Chip manicure still looks great. But this experience with Olga and her lack of regard for my concerns has left a very bad taste in my mouth. read more

While the stylists may do a decent job, I can assure you that if you go elsewhere, you can save loads of money and your hair look just as great. I have been a customer for 8+ years but must say I will NEVER step foot in this salon again. I got highlights for long hair (right past shoulder blades) and it was over $300... I'm sorry, what?! No haircut, no blow dry or style. Just highlights. Over $300 (not including tip). So then I decided I could not afford that and would try the Monday half price services (girls that are not on the floor yet)... terrible mistake. I got a cut ($17.50) and root touch up. Not exaggerrating by a single minute.. my appt. was at 12 and I didn't leave until after 4:30. They had to keep the place open for the girl to finish and told me they didn't have time to blow dry or style because they were closed. On top of that, I was charged $145. So basically they tried saying my root touch-up was $250 normal price plus the 17.50 for the haircut. Honestly it wasn't the money as much as it was spending 4.5 hours in a salon to get a 1 inch trim and root touch-up then them refuse me a service that is included in my pay because they are now closed. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. On a side note, I have heard directly from the words of a worker here for stylists to increase the cost of color by at least 30% so they can make more money. They make a percentage of the cost so they will drive up your price in order for them to make more money. I would love to say the girl who talked to me about this but unfortunately I can't. They claim you are charged by the number of grams used for color but since regular people like us don't know how much it takes, some stylists (not all) report tons more because say an additional 10grams increases the cost by $15 each time. This isn't all stylists though as I can assure many are kind hearted and don't want to rip you off even more so than you already are by Vanis. Laura is great (Schererville location) and is not one of those unethical stylists who jacks up the price to make herself more money. I've only been to Vanis a couple of times, I was given Maria as my stylist, I am so glad whoever it was that scheduled me with her did! The first cut was great and my hair was past my shoulders and I was wanting a bob but not too drastic as I was use to longer hair, she cut it for me right below the chin, she asked if I wanted some bangs but I wasn't quite ready for that. My second apt I decided to go with a shorter bob for the summer, and more angle from short in back to longer in front, she asked again about bangs & I had been kinda thinking about it but not wanting to commit to full bangs so she gave me just some wisp of longer bangs to help with softening around the face some, and me as an older woman let me tell you it made a big difference, she is just wonderful, very pleasant and easy to talk to, and she gives a great head massage before washing your hair, can't say enough good things about her, Vanis is now my salon and Maria will be my stylist always! thanks again for the great service :) read more

I went to Vanis today for the first time in a while. It's usually a bit expensive but decided to spend money this time to get something special done. I regularly get highlights but wanted to get regular color done because my hair gets very dark over the winter. I had Jackie who was definitely a newer stylist. I told her what I wanted and she seemed to understand. When my hair was finished it looked the exact same as I had come in. The price was over $200 for the exact same hair I had. When I came home my family asked why I didn't go to my hair appointment (because my hair looked the same as I had left) I told the situation to the ladies at the counter and they scheduled me for tomorrow with someone else. Fast forward and I give my same spiel of what I want. This hair dresser told me I didn't need it colored and she can do what I want with just some highlights. GREAT! Unfortunately, after spending an additional 3 hours at the salon my hair looked the exact same. I came into both appointments with pictures and details of what I want but both stylists refused to do what I asked saying they could do the same thing differently. Needless to say I lost a great deal of money and time to have the same hair as I walked in with. I will be box dying my hair sometime this week & will never be going back to Vanis. read more

Amazing Facial! I went for a facial and also received a mini-massage! If you go to Vanis in Schererville for any type of skin services request to see Vaska. She is without a doubt the best Esthetician that I have ever gone to. She does not try to oversell you on any products but informs you of what would be best for your skin. Not only is she knowledgeable she has a caring, funny personality. I was welcomed into the skin services area, which is a very calming space. I was given a wrap to put on, along with sandals, and a robe. My belongings were locked in a secure area. The restroom is located right outside the changing area. Vaska brought me to the services room promptly and made me feel comfortable. The first thing she did was to put cream on my feet and wrap them in plastic and place a warm blanket over them. YES, I went for a facial. She then washed her hands and proceded to work on my face. Steam, cleaning, extractions, warm stones,and hydration. As the hydrating lotion/oil had to stay on my face for 20 minutes she proceded to the massage portion. She used the most wonderful smelling lotion and proceded to massage my neck, my back (from the shoulder blades up) and my head. She then moved on to my arms, along with a hand massage. After this she moved on to my feet and legs, again putting lotion on my feet and wrapping them again. She proceded to wash her hands and finish my facial. When she completed my facial she removed the wrap from my feet and wiped off any excess lotion. She told me to take my time getting up and that she was going to pour me a glass of juice and water. I took my time relaxing with the juice and water and got dressed to leave. I can't wait to go back!! read more
