I have fine, wavy/curly hair and love getting bleach & tones (which can damage or create halo rings if you're inconsistent with appointments as a client.) Elle understands not just how to give me the hair I want but also has both a deep technical and aesthetic knowledge that has elevated both my hair health and my professional image. She took the time to educate me on what a stylist can impact and what a client's habits will impacts. Three years on I'm so happy to report 0 halos. 0 color inconsistency. Perfect platinum blonde each time. I couldn't be happier with the color results! She's also helped me to embrace some more current fashionable cuts and taught me how to embrace and style my curls. Elle is truly an expert in their craft and works masterfully on literally ALL hair textures, men, women and everyone in between. While my color is processing I've seen her do gorgeous k-pop cuts, tight crisp fades, and I hear her silk press skills are excellent too. She's a joy to chat with in the chair, and if you're not feeling sociable she'll respect your peace and you'll leave with gorgeous hair anyway. The salón vibe has changed with the opening of a cafe on site. Drinking mimosas, lattes and snacking on avocado toast is honestly the best way to spend your time in the chair. Robert the owner was so great: kind, hospitable. It was his birthday the day of my service. Foolishly I walked from my hotel, it took me 1.5 hrs and I was drippin! He graciously handed me a towel. Dennis was my stylist, who gave me such a thoughtful precision cut. He is a master with his shears. He took his time, reshaped my hair and gave me an elevated look. He has over 30 yrs experience and I can totally tell. Irene was my colorist. She did a great job getting me a dark red/brown all over color. She also gave me alot of tips for visiting around Seattle. She really made my day. The salon is decorated in a really refreshing minimalist style. I really loved the experience. I would return to Seattle just to come to Essensuals London! I've kept the same haircut for years because I don't know what would look good with my face shape; when I told her this, she kept some elements of my usual style and elevated it with layers, bangs, etc. The actual salon is pretty plain and quiet, as there's about 5 stylists. I used to come here for color when I was in college (back in 2016-2018, I know that the salon has changed ownership since then). The stylists here never gave me any advice on how to maintain color, such as using blue or purple shampoo. I was shocked at how late I had to learn this. This review is overdue for a haircut and color melt I had during the pandemic in 2020. Came in to get my first haircut during quarantine. I showed a few pictures that I liked from the yelp reviews, and I particularly wanted an ashy brown looking color melt and an edgy lob cut. I don't think what I asked for was delivered. I particularly asked that I don't want any orange in the color, but I got a head of orange color like shown in the pictures. And the color of orange got worse after a few wash. 2 years later, I still have to live with the orange color and had to chop them off. The color also changed the texture of my hair and made it super hard to maintain. I felt like the color melt damaged my hair more than balayage. read more

Probably the worst customer service I've experienced in my lifetime. The owner has zero empathy and cares only for protecting his revenue and upselling customers. Went in for a cut, which was decent. While I was there I asked for recommendations for coloring and they convinced me to just get it done and make an appointment. So I did, right on site. On the day of the appointment a dire emergency came up. A family member had just been diagnosed with late stage cancer and I was the only family member available to drive them to get emergency care that day when they suddenly collapsed. It was a sudden emergency, not a "oh I forgot I had brunch" or "I have a tummy ache." I said as much to the owner, apologizing for the late notice and asking if it might be possible reschedule. Robert, the owner, offered no empathy or concessions to help address the situation. He kept repeating that he needs to protect his business. That the policy is clearly on the confirmation email that I received (I did not get any such email) and on the website. Never mind that I was never told of this policy. While I completely respect cancellation policies to protect your people and your revenue, and agree they are needed, you should also be human and work with your customers if you want to keep them. Especially as a business owner. I will NEVER return to this salon. And I would never recommend them to anyone. I could never fathom stepping in there again after the way I was treated. At my first visit, Robert spent a few minutes just looking at my hair. He considered the texture and condition of my hair (not good, I am certain). To say that Robert is a magician with hair color would be an understatement. Robert is a rare combination of someone who knows hair, knows color and knows that every woman wants "perfect" hair. I write this with mixed feelings: for one, I want to share with everyone with hair like mine that there's a stylist here by the name of Kane that is beyond amazing. With that said, I don't want to share him with others as I'm worried he might get overbooked! But at the end of the day - he deserves all the word of mouth advertising he can get because HE IS AMAZING. Me in a nutshell: I am super anxious about who touches my hair and will not go to any random person. I am cheap about a lot of things, but I will splurge on hair. I have thick, Asian hair that also isn't always well behaved as it holds a slight wave. My hair needs a great cut, because I don't like spending time styling it. I need to have a cut that is wash and go and looks good without much handling, but I still want a great cut that is modern and chic. How it went down with Kane: I scheduled a consultation with him first to see what was possible. I showed him some photos, and he talked me through, showed me his tool kit, and I walked away feeling super confident. I came to my appointment, and he chopped away. What sets him apart is his painstaking attention to detail. Also, he doesn't talk much while he cuts your hair (which I personally really really like). I sat in his chair for about an hour and half (includes shampoo and style). It's been going on two months, and my hair looks fabulous as it's growing out SO WELL. I asked for layers, and my layers look SO GOOD. You can get a layered cut anywhere to be honest, but my layers just blend and flows amazingly well. I saw a friend who came to town for my wedding, and she complimented me on my hair and said "It looks SO GOOD." Kane is amazing. I believe that I have given this salon really several chances to get it right. I have been coloring my hair for years and now that my hair is mostly grey, the roots need to be done every 3-4 weeks. The first time I went to Essensuals, I was looking for them to brighten the overall red color of my hair while retouching the roots. I came away with a bright copper color, not what I was looking for. However, I understand that it can be hard to get it right first time, especially on dyed grey hair. Second and third times, they had to redo the whole process each time, because for some reason the color was not taking on my roots. This has never happened to me before. The owner suggested it might be because I was on medication (I am not!) They never questioned it they should leave the product on longer or heat it on my hair. Both times I spent over 3 hours in the salon. And each time the color on the roots faded within 2 weeks. I used temporary spray color to make it last a couple weeks longer. This just didn't feel right. Last time I went, they decided to wash my hair first, then dry it (In case my shampoo at home was interacting with the color...) Once my hair was dry, I could still see the grey coming through the color on the crown of my head. When I got home, I found that the colorist had even missed coloring certain parts of my hair. They offered that if I wanted, they would be ready to try again. Seriously, this is ridiculous! My colorist during the session asks questions but doesn't listen to your responses. Her lack of interest in what she is doing (at least with my hair) is painfully obvious. A box of l'Oreal color would have covered my hair without any problem. I have spent almost $500 in those 4 trips and wasted incalculable hours for very poor results. The owner may have been good once. At least, he namedropped with me on the shows he has done internationally. He has either lost his flair, or just doesn't care anymore. The receptionist is great and there are 2 hair stylists that look really good. My colorist doesn't know/care what she is doing. To be avoided! read more

One of the best salons in the Seattle area, if not the best! Robert is the guy you want to do color for your hair, he does it all (color melt, balayage, and new trends, etc.). I went in wanting to do something subtle but noticeable to my black hair that I've never colored before, and was super super nervous about it, but I'm in LOVE with the end results, it was 10x better than I expected. I will continue going to Robert for my hair, especially for coloring my hair as he has so much knowledge and experience with ALL hair types. After growing my hair for 3 years and still just not liking it, I was in need of drastic change and headed to Essensuals London for just that. The whole experience was top notch, starting with the ability to book appointments via a contact form on their website. I LOVE not having to talk to humans in real time (how Seattle of me). The salon itself was great- clean, modern and hip enough that I was convinced I'd walk out looking cooler than when I went in (hint: I did). Plus it never hurts to be offered a drink - including beer or wine - upon entry. Jake did the cut on my hair. Truthfully, I followed him here from another salon where he did my hair regularly long ago, so I knew ahead of time what a talented artist he is. But after years in LA (during which my look suffered pitifully) Jake has only gotten more talented. We're lucky to have him back in Seattle. I showed him a few reference photos of what I was looking for and he considered them carefully. We discussed options for what would work best on MY hair while he looked at my natural curly texture. Then in one celebratory move we chopped off the mermaid locks and got into it! Jake was awesome - he executed just the kind of hair I asked for flawlessly: I wanted a pixie short style that would let my natural curls look amazing just as they are. Wash n wear. He made it short and modern and hip but kept it soft and feminine enough to balance my potentially sorta harsh looking tattoos. He's got an eye that one. He recommended a couple products that will help me get the sustained bed head look, but he definitely wasn't pushy or salesy. I needed the advice and happily shelled out for some basics. He got an epic hug for transforming me into a better version of myself and I checked out a very happy customer. In short I can't recommend Jake enough, and the salon is just as impressive. Let me preface this review by saying that Kane is an absolute genius-- I have been a client of his for several years and he is the only person I trust with my haircuts/styling. Despite my unsatisfactory experience with color (done with another stylist), I will definitely continue to come to the salon for Kane. That said, an experience with color yesterday left me very disappointed. I made my appointment 3 weeks ago with Robert, one of the owners of the salon, but was told when I arrived on time for my appointment that my spot was moved since Robert was out of town. This change was not communicated to me. Nevertheless, I decided to go ahead with another stylist since I was already there and she was prepared to color my hair. I asked for an all over color from my blonde balayage to a cool, mid/dark brown color. After spending 3.5 hours in the salon and having my hair worked on by 4 different people, I ended up with JET BLACK hair-- a shade that I could have easily achieved myself with a box of cheap box dye at home. After expressing that I thought the color was much too dark, I was hastily reassured that it would "lighten over time". This very well may be the case, but it was not communicated to me prior to the start of the treatment. I feel that if the color I desired (which I had a photo of) wasn't achievable, I should have been warned. The jet black doesn't look terrible by any means, but it was definitely not what I asked for/nowhere close to the picture I had. Overall-- very happy with Kane and will continue going to him for all my haircuts. Pretty sad that I paid 90 dollars for flat, jet black hair instead of the medium/dark brown I wanted :-/ read more

Not everyday that I drop a Benny on my doo, actually make that ever in four decades but something about Jason (the co owner co twin) had me mesmerized when he finished styling my hair the other day. So, I decided that I would treat myself and I have zero regrets. Jason is super easy going and friendly and knows his scissors. He helped give my hair direction since I think I lost it a while back. I sat there thinking no way would I be able to see him on a regular basis when voila! He tells me that I just need to see him every three months!! Uh yeah, way cool and doable even for this single momma. The staff are all super friendly here, like super friendly. Always a plus. The decor is minimal and clean. No stuffy factor here. My frustration with this salon is that I'm a grad student who relies on accurate pricing structure in order to save and budget for my appointments. The hair stylist I've trusted with my coif for five years started working at Essensuals London about a year ago. She recently stopped cutting hair to take care of her father, so Essensuals London suggested I see Gianni because of the similar price point to my old hair stylist. I agreed to it. I went in on Saturday where I told Gianni exactly what I wanted (mid-neck bob, blunt cut). Everything went seemingly well. She curled my hair akin to Shirley Temple's afterward, which I thought was a fun touch. However, the next day when I woke up and when all the curls were gone, I noticed my hair wasn't anything that I asked for. My mirror at home gives me a view of the back of my head, and what I found was a choppy, textured cut (not good for my hair type), a bob cut a little below my jawline (nowhere close to mid-neck), and the framing around my face was a lot longer than the rest of the body. Plus, there were tendrils of hair throughout that were length of what my hair was before the cut. Since Essensuals London is closed on Sundays and Mondays and my hectic work schedule wouldn't allow me to return to the salon 'til four to five weeks later, I had to take action quick. I speedily booked an appointment at my old salon (which is located nearly 45 minutes from where I currently live), where the hair stylist was appalled by my hair. She fixed it up, but in order to fix it, she had to cut it a squeak shorter. I was advised by her and other hair stylist friends to email the receipt from my second haircut and to request a refund from Essensuals London. When Tuesday rolled around, I waited to receive a reply from Essensuals London. After waiting several hours, I called them to inquire about my refund. The employee I spoke to said he refused to give me a refund because they were unable to see the crooked hair in person. I explained my situation - why would I get a second haircut within almost 24 hours if it wasn't a bad haircut? He kept repeating that they hadn't seen the hair, thus no refund...but a picture would do. I told him I had some mirror selfies that I can send, but he repeated they had to see the hair in person. I pointed out how he just mentioned photos would work, so he relented. Once off the phone, I sent the photo and mentioned how I can have the other hair stylist call him if he's unbelieving (or he can call her, given that he has the receipt of the salon I went to with the stylist's name on it). I haven't heard anything and I'm extremely disappointed. I work with many artists and I have told them the epic of this catastrophe. They will be avoiding Essensuals London too, especially when $90 is a big chunk of change to lose on a haircut. read more

I'm used to going some sort of shopping mall salon paying the most $30 for a haircut. I was quite skeptical to pay a starting $105 price for a haircut. They offered my a discount, so I decided to give it a try. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted and did not had to wait. Looking around, they had a wine and beverage menu, as well as snacks or pastries you could order. The place had a very trendy decor, nice high ceilings. Kenneth was my stylist and really took his time trying to understand what I was looking for. I had pretty long, almost to the waist. I really enjoyed how Kenneth didn't seem rushed and took his time cutting the very well precise layers and bangs I was looking for. I can tell he was an expert at what he does. I learn quite a lot about my hair and how to better maintain it. During the cut, she had amazing attention to detail, and walked me through what she was doing, and stopped to answer any questions and check in. She also works with you on how you want to blow dry/style your hair afterwards, and even showed me tips/tricks on how I can style it at home. Go with Gianni! My boyfriend and I spent the past year and a half living in Seattle and I was over the moon when I realized Jason and Robert (whom I'd met through working as an outside sales beauty rep) opened an Essensuals London salon-- I couldn't wait for my appointment! See, unlike most salons, every stylist at Essensuals has a specialty; as in, Robert does only color, and Jason does only cuts. So each stylist that works there has only one focus and does only what they're the very best at doing. Robert transformed my damaged blonde hair into a gorgeous, natural looking blonde with tightly woven highlights throughout; and even used his magic powers to blonde-ify my hair so that even when it was growing out, it never looked bad or had any regrowth lines. Robert also used Olaplex on my hair and the results are insane. My processed, long hair used to get really knotted up and tangled throughout the day lying on the back of my shirts/coats/sweaters, not anymore.It also made it shiny, healthy looking, and even blew-dry twice as fast as it used to-- insane results. Jason cut off all my split and damaged ends giving me a chic new cut and style that grew out looking as spectacular as it started. He really made my damaged blonde hair look so healthy and polished. Essensuals London = Professionalism, artistry, and style at its best. Alas all great things must come to an end. I cannot say enough good things about the Jason!! I first met Jason almost 10 years ago when I was a young graduate student in LA and he was at Juan Juan. Jason cut the hair of one of our friends and for the five years we were in graduate school all of us would save our money to get an amazing hair cut by him. Fast forward to leaving LA and since then I've been forever searching for someone to replace Jason. I lived in San Francisco for 3 years and I could never find anyone as good as Jason. I moved to Seattle 3 years ago and thought I found someone to replace Jason, but boy was I wrong. I have that super thick Asian hair that just doesn't want to behave itself. I'm so glad Facebook told me Jason decided to open a salon in Seattle because after over 10 years not only did he remember me, but he gave me my first great haircut in over a decade. I'm now a mom to two small children and I just can't be bothered to spend more than 5 minutes on my hair. With a haircut from Jason, you really won't need more than 5 minutes each day to look your best. If you're looking for a quality haircut that looks better and better until your next haircut, give Jason a try, you WILL NOT be disappointed. I give him my highest recommendation.
