I was specifically hoping to find boots and/or a jacket. On top of having an entire floor full of clearance jackets, they also had about a dozen racks under tents outside of the store. It seemed like they probably had every Columbia jacket that had been made within the past few years. There was also a ton of Mountain Hardware and Sorel. The Mountain Hardware jackets were about 25-50% off, which was still significantly cheaper than REI or anywhere else that I know of. I ended up feeling so overwhelmed by the jacket selection that I decided I needed to do some research, and come back. I ended up leaving with two pairs of snow boots: 1 Columbia, and 1 Sorel. I got both pairs for $55, including tax and a very small roundup for the National Park fund. I've been looking for boots for a couple of weeks, and the cheapest I've found comparable boots anywhere else was anywhere from $69-129. So, I was beyond stoked to find two pairs I liked in the clearance section. They were also having a store wide BOGO half-off sale, which is how the total ended up so low. I didn't have, and have actually never had any of the issues with outlet stores that other people brought up in their reviews. I used to work at the outlets in Folsom. Most of the merchandise isn't damaged or defective-- it's just overstock or barely out of season. The boots that I purchased are honestly of similar quality to brand new boots from DSW. I just got really lucky (and have a seventh sense for when things will be on sale due to all my years of working in retail). Staff was super friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience and I would definitely shop here again.

The staff at both spots is typically always very friendly and helpful and comes across as very genuine, they care about having your business. One location is mainly for kids and the other for adult shoes, but you can often find adult sizes and styles in the kids store as well. I just learned they have a 365 day return policy (within reason) which is fantastic. Great place, you can't go around shopping here.

I wasn't going to leave without spending 150 bucks on a new pair and decided on a baby blue suede with large silver buckles option. Once I got back to California, I realized that the sales person neglected to tell me my foot required the standard foot bed (which shoes I purchased were definitely not). There are two types of foot beds in the Birkenstock brand, one for wider feet (standard) and one for slim feet. I didn't think that Birkenstocks made uncomfortable shoes, but discovered that wasn't the case once I wore my new pair for the day. My feet were KILLING me because they were too skinny for my feet. I got blisters too so, talk about AGGRO! I was really bummed because it's not like I could drive back to Portland to return or exchange them for a pair that fit properly. The only bonus to purchasing at this store was the obvious, no tax. Other than that I'm pretty pissed that I got such an uncomfortable pair of shoes. They were fine when I tried them on around the store, but, wearing them for an entire day was a different story. The sales people should be required to tell customers what their two options are before customers drop their dough on a new pair of shoes. Giant Grrrr.

Some sections are marked, but others, like sketchers, are located in several different places. They carry all the usual suspects - Sketchers, Nike, Reebok, New Balance, Birkenstock, Fry, Uggs, Ryka, Clarks, White Mountain, Puma, Adidas and more. Prices are good, but I always do a search online to make sure it's the best price available. Many times it is, but sometimes the same shoe can be bought online for less so if it fits and I like it, I order it online. I come to the physical store because I need to try on shoes. I need arch support and a wide toe bed so I can't take a chance of buying shoes or sandals without testing them out. Famous Footware also sells online and since I loved the sneakers so much, and knew they fit well after wearing a few weeks, I bought another pair online in white and silver. If you sign up for their rewards program, they ship to your house for free and you can return at the store for free if it doesn't work out. There were a few people working but they don't offer help. Assuming it's because their business model is more of a do it yourself model . They put all the shoes and sizes out in the floor and you find and try on what you like. Nordstrom's always has a great selection of shoes ranging from high end designer to mid level brands. Unlike other department stores, Nordstrom's has a decent selection of brands that carry orthotic shoes (Vionic) or have arch support (Birkenstock, Munro, Naturalizer) which I require, so when they are offered at their rack for a significant discount, I grab them. The racks often get shoes leftover from other seasons so all sizes aren't always available. But they have enough of a selection that I typically find something plus the sales staff will check online and call other stores. This may be a discount store but they still provide Nordstom's high level of customer service. Most important, the store is well organized, lots of room between aisles and plenty of places to sit and try on shoes. Definitely worth popping in if you are at the Columbia Gorge Outlet Mall or passing through Troutdale.
