1st time at this location since we last visited the one in Norman last time. Had 3 meats plate, brisket, pork ribs, and sausage with cole slaw and fried okra as sides. All were good except those lean briskets were a bit dry. Also had the pig sandwich and only wish the bun can be warm instead of cold. Takes an extra minute or less for heating the bun. The curly fries were a disappointing as they were either over cooked or undercook in the larger pieces where the potatoes came like the shape of a piece of sliced half onion. Those required a bit more cooking. Rum pie was good but would recommend serving a little afterwards since it was very soft after we finished p our meal. Good food! It was annoying to have flies buzzing on our food. Staffs were all friendly. The cashier, an older gentleman told us about a loyalty program when signing up with phone number. Where do I begin? Let's start with the chopped brisket sandwich....YUM! A nice portion of brisket. The bun is always fresh. Moving on to the fried bologna sandwich. Oh. My. Word. If it's available get it! You won't regret it. My hubby love the 2 meat plate. He typically gets sliced brisket and pulled pork. Delicious! Let's talk sides...the best fried okra in town. I would give Van's Pig Stand 10 stars.. The food is really good, but what needs to be said is that they'll provide a gluten-free option for those of us who have allergies to gluten. They take the time to warm the gluten-free bun, which is super soft, and they are careful not to cross contaminate. The owner took the time to come see us and make sure we had everything we needed. My standards for bbq and burgers are very high!! I hate to give a less than substantial review for a home town business but I'm afraid that's what I'm about to do. Their aren't a whole lot of options on food in Purcell,so often times you have to run up to Norman! I've seen quite a few adds in the paper of how fans had the #1 burger around... I was skeptical but being very hungry remembered the add so off I went to Van's! I ordered the burger from the very convenient drive thru window and expected a 7-8 minute wait.The burger was in my hand in about 2... naturally I'm thinking this isn't going to be good. Get home just across the street and at bite 1 it was as the burger was made 30 minutes prior,it wasn't hot either. It wasn't terrible but definitely not #1 or even a 5 on my scale. read more

We are in the area and decided to stop in to see what all they hype was about. Pulled pork, fired okra, curly fries, and bologna we all at the table served in the typical metal baking sheet/plate. Positives: The bread was super fresh. So fresh it was amazingly obvious. Clean and open. We got there right before the Sunday rush but as it was filling up it didn't get much louder. Sauces. Oh the sauces! I had a hard time picking my favorite. We each ended up picking something different. Not so great: The meat portions were small. I'm used to biting into a BBQ sandwich and getting more meat than bread. This was not the case. Prices were in line with other places like Swadleys or Earls but the portions were out of wack. No shredded pork peaking out from the edges of the bun. The bologna was sliced thin and petite. The curly fries were short and more like half curl fries than the traditional crispy springs you would expect. Maybe we will try another location, aside from the convenience factor. read more

Pretty dang good bbq. Their bologna sandwich is so yummy. My sister and husband always get the ribs and they never complain about them. Most of their staff is friendly, but I definitely do wish some of their attitudes were better. Overall it's a good place to eat and take the family. Lots of places to sit, clean bathrooms. read more

My friend and I ate there on the way to Norman,OK. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fried okra and a drink(combo). My friend had the catfish meal, with 2 sides(she got curly fries and fried okra, and hush puppies and a drink. For our dessert, she had banana pudding, I had pecan pie. My sandwich and her catfish were both perfect in flavor and cooked just right. The fried okra was also perfect. They have pickles and onions and extra sauce for the meat if you want. The workers were super nice and the whole place was clean, even the women's restroom(no idea about the men's,as we had no men with us to try that). Overall, I enjoyed my stop there. read more

Everything was good, not great! I ordered the 3 meat combo ribs, hot links, brisket, with bakes beans and turnip greens. The hot links and brisket were cold but very moist and tender. The ribs were fall off the bone tender but they didn't have much meat, even for ribs they were skimpy. The beans were disappointing, they were ok. However for any barbecue place to have anything other than incredible beans is a travesty. With all the meat drippings and smoke you should be able to do more than open a can of pork and beans and slightly doctor them. The greens were good but could have been much better. The barbecue sauce is terrible. I tried all of them and they were just weird. They need to adjust the recipes because the spices they use are very off-putting. When I arrived the health department was parked in front. I thought if they were eating here that's a good sign, but if not it would make me nervous. Luckily they were eating here. Overall this is good "Q"! But with a few minor tweaks it could be world class. read more

I already forget about how amazing Vans is and we live literally down the street! Ordered a 1 meat 2 sides for $12! That's a great price. 4 large ribs, 2 sides, and Texas toast. Great BBQ! We had the brisket and a rack of ribs along with fried okra and apple pie. Everything was delicious. The brisket was a " melt in your mouth " kind of moment! The staff was friendly and helpful and the store was clean. Would diffidently return next time we are in town! Purcell has been without quality BBQ for years. Now, Van's is in town (by some miracle?). Finally!!! The BBQ Chicken was perfect, flavorful crispy skin, warm tender moist meat. I'm not a big fan of chicken on the bone, but this was an exception. The BBQ Turkey came sliced and was just as tender, flavorful, and moist as the Chicken! Never, have I had good sliced turkey, let alone GREAT! The sides I had were the Green Beans and Turnip Greens, both tasted homemade. I wasn't close to getting my fill on just one serving, it was that delicious!!! Overall: This is the best restaurant in Purcell, OK. and the best BBQ Turkey&Chicken I've had in Oklahoma to date. We have eaten here only twice because we live 2 hours away. The staff was friendly and efficient. We have had their smoked meats and burger. Both times food was freshly prepared and very good. It is a a little pricey. This last time, 2 of us ate and we both had bacon cheeseburgers, one side and a drink. Our total was a little over $27. I did not have a good experience at vans and pig stand today on Tuesday. I decided to go have lunch there, a friend recommended me to go there but when I walked in you know the place is nice. I liked it it was a cute place but when I Went there the employees we were very unwelcoming as they have had some type of attitude as they probably had a bad day, but I went in there and ordered my food. I asked about the buns being toasted, and they said yes the buns are toasted and I went to the the the in the cold Stan to get some pickles and there was no pickles. A lot of the bottles were empty no barbecue sauce And I had to tell them if they couldn't refill it and one of the ladies are working on the line was giving me very disgusting looks I did not have a welcoming visit there. Although the food was good, it was mediocre as what I would say, and the bun was not toasted. The bun was not even warm but also the barbecue sauce isn't the best quality. I had high hopes for Van's Pig Stand, having seen their signs on the highway, and liking to try BBQ in various states as I travel for work. My impression was that there was a lack of effort other than a mechanical "Welcome to Van's!" greeting from somewhere when I walked in. I ordered a 3 Meat Combo with brisket, sausage, and turkey ($20.69 with a drink). At 6 pm on a Thursday, there was only one other table occupied. There seemed to be an abundance of staff hanging around behind the counter, but lots of dirty tables and very sticky floors in what appears to be a new building. ("If there's time ro lean, there's time to clean.") All three meats were very dry and lacked any smoke flavor. The brisket seemed like it was reheated, the sausage had little character, and the turkey was sliced thick, but was dry enough to split apart when you tried to cut it. Not the worst I've ever had, but for a non-chain restaurant touting it's heritage to 1930, it seems that someone has lost the passion that got their name this far. read more
