Choose a struggle! Bad food or bad experience... Vaqueros couldn't decide so they chose both! My boyfriend and I should've seen the completely empty restraunt as a sign of what was to come. Starting with being seated at the smallest table in the farthest corner despite every single table being open. Since it was national tequila day I ordered a marg! Originally I ordered the blue raspberry margarita and was told they didn't have the syrup. No worries! Switched to the blackberry flavored one instead and YUCK. Tasted like straight syrup, 0 alcohol, and the ice to liquid ratio was insanely off. I had maybe 5 itty bitty sips before asking the waitress to take it back. She took it with no apology or question on what the issue was. It takes a lot of talent to mess up a margarita. So kudos to them. My boyfriend and I ordered the fajita combo plate to share. It came with shrimp, steak, and chicken mixed with veggies. There were a total of 4 pieces of shrimp, 3 flour tortillas clearly store bought and stale, and shreds of dry unseasoned minuscule shreds "steak" and chicken. The toppings came out on a large platter. Most of the cheese was clumped together, melted to the plate (but not warm or stringy just completely solid melded to the plate) and insanely thin. My boyfriend said the rice was good but he also found uncooked rice immediately after saying this. Overall, I would say the food was far below subpar and I am shocked at the 5 star reviews. I think those who gave it 5 stars might be locals or come from a land of zero flavor. The restaurant aesthetic was just your typical Mexican restaurant decor and I do not think it is unique enough to rectify giving a higher rating. The service was also nothing to talk positively of. We were the only ones in the restaurant and you'd think we weren't even there the way the waitress sat on her phone the entire time. Don't recommend. Would not go back. read more

This place is great! It's a small, well decorated spot with great vegetarian options. The bar only has three seats, and the TV and music weren't working when I visited, which was unfortunate. Was pleasantly surprised By this establishment. It has a full bar which I took full advantage of, lol. Their bloody mary was perfectly balanced. There are michalada mix was good as well. The horchata was very flavorful, especially if you love cinnamon. My daughter enjoyed the cherries on top. Thank you. The chips were light crunchy and flavorful. The salsa could have been a little more spicy from my personal taste, but i'm sure it would be very good for others. We had the three dips and cevich. The ceviche was amazing. I waited a year to come back to visit Sedona and Jerome and constantly thought of the Chicken Mole Enchiladas that we had the first time we visited in December 2023. Unfortunately we over-hyped the enchiladas and were disappointed that the flavor wasn't as good as we remembered. However, the food was still good overall. Horchata is flavorful and a must-get. Surprisingly the chicken tenders and the french fries were the MVPs of the meal. Perfect crispness and flavor! Vaqueros Grill & Cantina is a gem in the town of Jerome. The building itself is covered in beautiful Mexican artwork, the chairs and tables as well. I stopped by for a quick lunch with my toddler, and we were seated immediately. My waitress was extremely sweet and fast with our service. I ordered fajitas and they came out less than 15 minutes later! The fajitas were PHENOMENAL, literally the best I've ever had. I'm originally from Northern Texas, and I was pleasantly surprised to find sopapillas on the menu, which is a Mexican delicacy hard to find anywhere in the Valley. Back in 2023 the server kept giving me my drink with fruit flies in it. After asking for a new one I received another drink with the same gnats. It took about 3 times before the drink came to the table without flies... Then he proceeded to give us a "free" dessert to make up for it. Lo and behold, the dessert was on the ticket. Came here on a Saturday in August for lunch. It wasn't busy, we were seated immediately. There's paid parking right out front. The dining area is clean with lots of stuff on the walls to gaze at until the food arrives, which wasn't long. I ordered the Native Enchiladas and I shared fried ice cream with my wife. Once again after the pandemic, we came here. Vaqueros is a delightful place to eat. We came here on our first visit to Sedona and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Then the pandemic hit and we haven't been back until now. We're glad we did Vaqueros is part of a three-restaurant, family owned chain that also includes Calavera in Oakwood. It is a pleasure to see an entire family work so harmoniously together and provide truly outstanding service and food. Even their young son was proudly strutting between the counter and the kitchen bringing utensils. The decor is amazing, Mexican tiles, woodwork and stained glass decor. The ambiance is relaxing in a place like Jerome, which is a tourist heaven with non stop traffic. We entered the place near noon and were seated immediately. An hour later it was waiting list. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros and was disappointed. The mixture wouldn't pass through the straw due to a rush blending job. And it didn't taste like it contained alcohol. When I "finished" the drink, the level had gone down less than a half inch and ice was left. Alcohol doesn't freeze, so I KNOW it didn't contain alcohol. My wife mentioned to me her strawberry margarita didn't taste like it contained alcohol either and did not touch it after a sip. Her margarita was over filled and spilled on the menu when it was served. The server would not refund the purchase of those and did not stop to discuss our inquiry. My wife ordered a ground beef taco but was given a shredded beef taco. She also ordered a Chile Relleno Deluxe, which comes with the option of red or green sauce. The server didn't mention this and just served her poblano with green sauce. We were left waiting quite a while to pay while she spoke with other customers about local city council issues with another table. A taco , a Chile Relleno Deluxe, a Carne Asada plate, and two margaritas was $97.47 w tax after the tip. Looking at the menu online now, that should've been $66 before tax and tip. read more

Went late Monday evening...we were the only guests and got a table by one of the large windows looking out to the street.... eclectic and very colorful interior...no complaints on the service and my kiddo got some crayons and paper...
