Ok so I was so excited to go here. There is something really comforting about a tamale done right! The glowing reviews and pictures seemed promising. The restaurant itself has a lot of character, it full of textures and colors, had a cute little fountain outside. It just feels homey and welcoming. The menu...is hella pricey for a tamale. I mean even with inflation these days I could get a tamale at most spots where I live for like half the price. I just told myself it's Sedona just except it lol so I went wild and got their extra special tamale with lots of topping to make it a more complete meal. I chose the chicken mole for my filling. I also got their dairy free horchata. First thing the horchata was delicious! Creamy, great texture, not to sweet, seasoned just right. Extra points for being dairy free as milk is not my bodies friend. The tamale however was a major let down. I was so close to just sending it back, but was on a time crunch and starving. The masa was so salty. The mole sauce was barely existent and had no complexity or flavor really. I didn't taste the chocolate or the Chile . Just blah. The toppings and horchata helped make it possible to consume despite the saltiness. So overpriced salty tamale gets 2 stars, ambiance 5, and horchata 5, which is why this place gets a three stars overall. The food is brought to your table (wherever you choose to sit). Drinks & food were served timely. FOOD/DRINK: For our drinks, we ordered horchata and the hibiscus tea, both of which were ok. We both ordered tamale supremos, one with chicken with tomatillo sauce and the other with pork with mild red sauce. There was not much meat in either tamale and the masa was a bit smooth in texture. The 'supremo' component to the tamale included spinach atop the tamale with thinly sliced radish, guacamole, coquita cheese, and black beans on the side. Tamaliza came as one of the hidden gems in Sedona so we decided to give it a try. It's very interesting and I don't know well enough if that's how authentic tamales are served but I certainly enjoyed it. I had chilaquiles with eggs and it was also very yummy. After a long hike, I was starving and ready for food. This simple spot is perfect for a casual lunch. Tamaliza is a must, especially for veggie and vegan options. There are two parking areas. One behind the restaurant, which comes up first and connects to other businesses, then the dedicated front parking area. Once parked, go inside and order at the counter. Tamales are incredible. Ask for suggestions if you need help. The horchata is made vegan and it's fabulous. Give it a try. I got veggie tamal (~$20) with all the works and it was heavenly. I was craving a breakfast burrito. I've been trying to find a good one in town. This one was OK, nothing special- I got the beef- but I feel absolutely robbed that I spent $20 on a burrito this size. Tamaliza was probably my favorite meal I had during my visit to Sedona. I came for the tamales. We ordered two: -vegetarian tamale supremo ($19.50): poblano peppers with cheese and corn -pork in red mild sauce supremo ($19.50) For what it's worth, for an extra $9.50, your tamales get dressed up with black beans, raw spinach, cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole + house made pickle radish. All the accoutrements were great, but honestly, you could do without - the tamales packed plenty of flavor on their own. I also thought that the raw spinach was a weird addition to the medley of toppings. The tamales themselves are fire. The masa to filling ratio is perfect. We really enjoyed this small family owned place. The tamales were fresh and the masa was the smoothest I have ever tasted. The beans and rice were nice. We ordered beef and onion supremo tamale , chicken supremo tamale, side of rice and beans and a coke. All were good. I found Tamaliza on Yelp while traveling to Sedona. This place is amazing, probably one of the best chilaquiles I've had. I came in for lunch it was not packed when I came in. However when I left there was a line to order. I was given a menu and ordered at front desk. Once they give you a number you sit and they bring your food and drinks. I started with their fermented pineapple. It was good yet different to any pineapple drink I've had. I liked it, it felt like it had some spice or ginger like. When I came in was planning to order tamales as that is their signature item. However chilaquiles are some of my favs. For the chilaquiles, I ordered pork. I was surprised how simple the plate was but yet had so much flavor. It really came to the sauce combined with the pork. It did not have an egg like in other places. It did not need it. The plate held well with beans. I also ordered a chicken green sauce tamal. It was good too! The chilaquiles were my favorite of the two. The tamal was longer than I've had but packed with chicken and sauce. He brought me the mild green and the hot red sauce. They were both delish. The green sauce was a lemony tomatillo flavor. The red sauce was good with a bit of a burn if like spicy. The place is small but can accommodate seating. I sat by the windy which was a side room. It's been 8 years since I found this place by accident in Sedona. I finally made it back and my memory had failed me. They make the best tamales I have ever had and the enchiladas are not far behind. I travel all over the US and have not found one better. This is a family owned business and the service is fantastic. This restaurant has counter service to place your order and they bring out your fresh made meal to your table. What I found to be really cool was the young man at the counter is the son of the owners. He was the teenager that was hanging around 8 years back when I first went. The restaurant is a really cool, quaint, Mexican themed place. We ordered the Tamale Supremo Pork, Plato Casero chicken enchilada and they were both fantastic. My favorite is the Tamale. I recommend this place to everyone and it should be a Sedona stop if you like authentic Mexican food. read more

It's just okayyyyy .. very expensive for what you get . The food was good but not great . I believe they advertise that everything is "homemade" and organic maybe ?! Again food was not terrible but it was very basic ingredients. Overpriced double times what it should be in my opinion. It was 60$ with tip for two plates of food and a bottle of jarrito I removed from the fridge and popped the top myself . We sat outside the patio of plain plastic tables and benches under a tarp canopy. The bathroom is detached from the main building . I do appreciate that it's dog friendly. When I asked for a bowl of water and gentlemen told me I can help myself to the water hose by the side of building . My dog enjoyed the spray down with water after his morning hike in the red rocks. It took a good 30 minutes or more for our food to come out . No chips and salsa . It's 6$ extra if you want it. The pork tamale was ok . Tamale itself was a bit dry but the toppings helped. The chile relleno was again not bad but tastes like the 10$ plate of the same food at other establishments. It wasn't a huge plate of food . Not that anyone needs to eat a pound of food at lunch , but again the price is high , 21.50$ for one chile , a little bit of rice and beans . Also their menu calls these plates " family meals" and charges an extra 5$ to split ! What is there to split ? Not not really a shareable amount . Totally ridiculous. Overall , I would not be excited to recommend this place to friends . Expensive food . No views. Ok service . Pet friendly is a plus . The inside is small and tight . We really like Tamaliza! Ricardo is so friendly and the food is so fresh and delicious. It's so difficult to find Mexican food that's healthy, and their food is non GMO, no lard, and as organic and unprocessed as possible. I love their vegan menu! I got vegan horchata and vegan tacos, so it's made with a mushroom in a red sauce. It felt meaty and hearty and fulfilling. The rice is flavorful and delicious. Grabbed a quick lunch here randomly and so glad we did! We got the chicken mole burrito and it did not disappoint! We don't have a lot of places that serve mole near us so it was quite a treat to get it here. This was enough to split in half to share and left us full the rest of the afternoon. We also got chips and salsa, which is a nice small portion so you don't fill up on it. This place is super casual. They seat you but you have to go up the register to order. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Be aware, there are steep steps to get up into the restaurant from the front parking lot. Unsure if there's another way in from the back. read more

This place is a gem! We found it after spending much of the day at Airport Mesa. It's 5 minutes from there. Service was friendly and helpful. We chose to sit out on the patio which was very nice and comfortable. (You order at counter and they bring to you). (Inside decor super cute, but it was a beautiful day so we opted for outside). We had: Shredded beef burrito solo, Enchilada style burrito with chicken (this was mind and it was absolutely fantastic - rice and beans came on the side unlike the solo burrito where they were inside the tortilla), beef taco, kids meal cheese quesadilla with rice and beans and the chips and salsa. For drinks we had the horchata and jasmine (i had this - it was delicious but super tart, needed to add some stevia to take the edge off....then it was refreshing and delicious). If you are looking for authentic mexican food you have to check out Tamaliza! It is a small quaint restaurant located in Sedona. The food is so fresh. I got vegetarian enchiladas and chips and salsa. You can tell everything was made from scratch. I really love that they have vegan and vegetarian options as well as your typical meat options. We went around 11:30 and our food came out very quickly. The actual food was good but the portions were very small for what we paid. Almost $50 for a smothered vegan tamale and a small chili relleno with some rice and beans. Good for lunch but not an early dinner after a big hike. While we were in there the guy taking our order was sneezing and we heard coughs coming from the kitchen while our food was being made since we were the only ones there... fast forward a couple of days and we are both feeling like we are coming down with something. This business is super easy for me to leave a stellar review, I'll keep it simple but I can easily write an essay about why I love this place and have been here four times now, as is now my tradition to stop by here or whatever I visit Sedona. The owner, Claudia, makes the best tamales that I have ever had in my life. I have always loved tamales since I was a kid, and would buy them from street vendors. Her tamales are much much elevated from the street tamales that I loved as a kid. Everything is made in house. Her tamale dishes are fancy, healthy, beautiful, have fresh ingredients, amazing flavors, and very filling! I have not tried anything else here because I always get a tamale Supremo order with different types of tamales. Just yesterday I took my friend here and we ordered the chicken tamale with mole sauce. We both savor each bite and kept repeating just how delicious it was. I never had mole sauce and I have been missing out! My friend loves Mexican food and he was very impressed! My favorite homemade Mexican drink here is the Tepache! Fermented pineapple juice with cane sugar, absolutely to die for. It might not be for everybody, but I order it every time I come here. Try out their Horchata and Jamaica, these are fantastic as well. Claudia is obviously very passionate about her business and about cooking. It shows in both her the beautiful restaurant environment that is filled with vibrant colors, warm, and love. So far I have brought my entire family here last year, and most recently my best friend from college. I will keep returning with more people I care about because everybody is always happy to experience Claudia's passion and genius when it comes to authentic homemade Mexican meals.
